    The Gocheer is a $50 kit from amazon with a simple on-demand compressor system. This seems to work perfect for my needs (low demand/usage) and allows me to finish my 3d prints nicely using only dollar store acrylic paints. Overall- I like it very much!

    I use car windshield washer fluid much cheaper. Make sure your paint is thinned to the consistancy of milk. I usually add a drop of glycerine to the mix too. It helps with the flow and slows down the drying time of the paint. I hate it when paint drys at the nozzle and tip of the airbrush. After cleaning the airbrush, I use a glycerine and water solution through the brush to help prevent paint from clogging the brush too. I usually put a drop of glycerine on my finger tip and coat the tip of the needle before painting. Nothing sticks that way. Something I learned a while back.

    I’ve got a master airbrush when I just started out. The 2 mil nozzle broke up the first day, the O rings got brittle a year in (even tho I didn’t airbrushed that much + I maintained good cleaning) and now it just leaks air and becomes unusable. I would recommend a better one like Harder Steenbeck Ultra or their Evolution airbrushes

    Would you mind explaining what you meant describing the compressor as "on demand". Some airbrush compressors, called "air-on-demand", control when the compressor actually runs by when the control on the air brush is engaged. The compressor doesn't make the constant running noise or overheat (unless you spray steady for like 20 minutes). From your video it seemed your compressor was running even when you were not spraying - I could be wrong. I'm trying to decide what to buy. Thanks for your video demo and help.

    I have two of those exact airbrushes in my collection, I also have some very expensive ones. With a bit of work on them they make good airbrushes. The only thing I don't like about that particular model is that the trigger sticks out too far and your trigger finger interferes with the cup. I have shortened mine to standard height, simple job if you are generally handy with tools. So here are my recommendations for improving these airbrushes and all generic chinese airbrushes.
    1. Polish the needle, not the whole needle just the angled sharp part at the end. There are a few videos on youtube that I have seen but I do not see how those methods would improve the needle. Needles are made from stainless steel which is very hard so just polishing them with polishing compound isn't going to remove machining marks, well it might after a VERY LONG time! I spin the needles on my drill press, if you don't have one you could use a hand drill but secure the drill in a vise as you need both hands free for the operation. You want to spin the needle at a fairly high speed as its diameter is very small, on my drill press I spin at max speed. You will find the needle sticks out of the chuck a fair amount, this will introduce wobble at the needle end which you must avoid and control so before you spin up hold the needle with two fingers to stabilize it. As the needle is of a small diameter and smooth there won't be much friction on your fingers but if you're worried you can always lube your finger with some oil. you should have a small piece of doubled up 1200 grit emery paper in your other hand, I find 1200 is generally ok but you may have to go a little coarser if your needle is very rough but finish up with 1200. Gently run the needle between two sides of emery paper starting from the top and down to the tip, be very careful not to blunt the end of the needle, stop and check your work and continue until you have achieved a 1200 grit finish, should take a couple of minutes. Next you will need some polishing compound, the stuff sold in blocks (look like long bars of soap), its a wax substance mixed with grit, you want the GREY one. As those bars are too big to work with for this job you will need to chop a piece off, say an inch or so. Normally this compound is applied to a circular polishing mop wheel, we are going to use it direct on the needle. This time you are going to run the polishing compound against the needle - do not stick the needle into it as you will blunt it and again be careful with the very tip of the needle. Run the polishing compound against the spinning needle until it is polished, again, a couple of minutes will do it. Although this description is long it is a fairly easy job, when showing it to people in person it only takes a me few minutes to explain it to the point when the other person can do it on their own.
    2. If your nozzle has an o-ring, remove it (you will most likely have to remove the nozzle to see it). Those o-rings will quickly deteriorate and cause an air leak so get rid of it now and save yourself from having to fix it half way through a project. The recommended solution on youtube for the most part is to seal around the nozzle with beeswax, a rather tedious process. Buy yourself a Tamiya airbrush cleaning kit. The kit includes a small tub of red nozzle sealant (enough for a lifetime), put a small amount of that sealant on your nozzle's thread with a toothpick and gently tighten nozzle. Check for air leak by putting some water in your cup and pressing down on the trigger for just air, there should be no bubbles in your cup.
    Well that's about it... enjoy your improved airbrush!

    • @w.rustylane5650
      @w.rustylane5650 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use chap stick to seal the spray head to the body. It's a whole lot cheaper than bee's wax and works just as well. I also modify the trigger pressure to start the air by shortening the valve body spring by clipping off a round. Just be sure when you reinstall put the uncut portion to the top of the valve and the cut part toward the bottom. I like a lighter touch on my two airbrushes. I have done this to my Badger 155 Anthem and my cheapo HF (Harbour Freight). I use the HF for lacquer based paints and my Badger 155 Anthem for acrylic paints. Both airbrushes have adjustments to lessen the pull of the trigger to let the paint through.

    why not just get a badger?

    • @Mrwigglyau
      @Mrwigglyau 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      cost.
      you could get like 10 of the cheap brushes for the cost of a main line badger.
      the cheap brushes wont do fine detail work well, but will prime, basecoat and varnish as good as an expensive brush.
      And if you bugger it up as a beginner, you wont care too much just binning it and buying a new one.

    Thinking about taking up model building...World War II aircraft specifically. It might be a passing hobby so I don't want to invest in anything too expensive. Thinking about picking this up. Thanks for the review.

      Hi Rometiklan! I've used a virtually identical airbrush on model kits for a few years now and I can thoroughly recommend it. Vallejo and Mig paints will spray very well (you can get 'Air' versions which are pre-thinned for convenience but the standard paints are just as good thinned with water. Check on ebay as they often have great deals with the full set up - airbrush, hoses and compressor for less than the price of a 'top of the range' airbrush (which I'd be scared stiff of taking apart to clean!) If you want good tips on modelling have a look on the DeAgostini 'ModelSpace' website and forum there's loads of great models on there!

      The Gocheer I have came with three different size needles and a adjustable knob at the end that helps with flow control for fine lines; it work good with the compressor I have and not the one in the kit.

      Oh and I agree using it with Vallejo paint that’s properly thinned works well with the brush

    A lot of people dont realise that since the advent of the internet we've been buying direct from the manufacturer wherein back in the 70's 80's we were buying from the middlemen who's prices were on 20 and sometimes 100% markup! Maybe more in some cases.

    NIce video, these little burp compressors are not the best but very effective for very light use. People like to knock the Master airbrushes and Central Pneumatics because of their price but most people don't realize 90% of all airbrushes are built in the same place across the ocean. The only differences are the top brands will only buy the perfect units and also have custom ones made. The lower priced ones work just fine and in 30 years of model and miniature painting I can honestly say get a nice set of cheap ones like Master or the one here, swap a few with a different needles for specific uses and use the quick connect pieces so you don't have to clean colors every time in 1 session. These cheap brands are best used for priming and base coating and finish painting and while they can do lines fairly well any really fine detail projects you may then want to consider some of the pricier models.

    The airbrush is fine, the so-called compressor is junk. It doesn't have the power to push the paint through. I used one time and the airbrush clogged after painting for about half an hour in all.
