@@garymarshall3212 I never understood why the Russian MIGs would be carrying French missiles. My guess is because they were the most widely known missiles that were not American. It was famous for sinking the HMS Sheffield at the Falkland Islands in 1982 a few years before the movie came out.
@@charlesmills8712 The movie is intentionally vague about who the "enemy" nation is, but they pretty heavily imply that it is a Third World country, probably Arab or Persian. Almost all of these countries flew Soviet planes modified with French equipment in some way. We'd been variously tangling with the Iranians, Iraqis, and (especially) the Libyans for about 6-7 years straight when Top Gun came out, so it was pretty obvious which short list of enemies it was supposed to be.

It was a good jet, but it had some inherent problems. A lot of times you had to "Fly the throttles" vice flying the jet. It had good legs and a good ordinance-load.

Has there ever been a soundtrack that fits a motion picture better? Fuck no. You cannot see an F-14 at a show, in a museum, or on TV..... without a track from the OST immediately springing to mind. Brilliance.
