Everyone loves the main guitar part, but for me the syncopated rhythm at the start with the subtle synth building bar on bar is just mindblowing in terms of musical composition.
I think A lot of people like me and you think the same. The bell sound is everything

It's the sound of the death clock ringing.
The complexity of this piece is beautiful, but the guitar drowns it out and demands attention. Having the synth build slowly over the bars really rouses the senses, gets the blood pumping, and when the guitar does start playing after the long buildup it is so much better and so much more satisfying than the short version.
Lovely volcalbury skills couldn't agree more.

I am a biker myself. I ride a 700 yamaha. I dedicate this song to my wee boy that fell off his quad and suffered life ending injuries. He loved the movie and his wee rides on my bike with his wee arms wrapped around me. So this song has a special place in my heart. I love u son xx

The first 2 and a half minutes show how beautifully composed the Top Gun Anthem is. The synth and percussion are simple to begin with but it builds, bar on bar with rousing energy till every note and cord is saturated with energy - you can't get any more in there. Then the guitar blasts in, taking that energy that had built up over the 2 and a half minutes of synth and blasting it up to 11.
In the normal version of the Top Gun Anthem, you don't get the time to appreciate how beautiful the synth is, the guitar just drowns it out and demands attention.
First 3 minutes is all enough for this song.

I watched the first Top Gun like 4 days ago for the first time, and I watched Maverick today. Good movies. This theme is just too good.
When you hear that bell sound it gives the song away. It’s totally iconic. Probably the most iconic sound in all of music ever written.

I saw this film in the theater when released in 1986. Today I turned 43. 80's was and is the Top Gun!

I play the Top Gun anthem when I drive home to Chula Vista,CA for visits as I get close to home there. I worked at NAS Miramar from January 17,1989 to July 31,1997, it was the very best place that worked at.

As a former assistant to the Director's of the A-7, F-14 and F-16 programs at Northrup Grumman, I greatly appreciate the beauty and sexiness of these aircraft. And I love this theme song! 🇺🇸
Hate to break it down to you buddy, but both the A-7 and F-16 have nothing to do with Northrop Grumman.
The A-7 was derived from the F-8 Crusader fighter from Vought.
The F-16 was a product from General Dynamics and later GD was bought by Lockheed Martin, so now it's built by Lockheed.
Do your research before saying BS like that.

I love the opening scene of this movie that pays full homage to the carrier crew working to make the action of the F14s possible. They deserve this as their background music. Amazing!
No doubt, those on the deck risk their lives everyday. They are on the most dangerous platform ever devised by man, and without them, power projection does not happen! Worked as an engineer and spent time observing these folks. High quality people with incredible skills and dedication.
This intro piece is probably the main reason we all wanted to be Top Gun instructors...

I've not rationalised why yet fully - but this was they most significant film I've ever seen. Possibly a reflection of me ageing and reminiscing about a golden age, but I've never been so emotionally connected to a film?!

Best theme tune ever written it gives the meaning of true Top Gun Naval Aviator Heroes. Their strengths, their intelligence to fly how the do and that they are the best of the best Top Gun Heroes ❤
I like the message at the end. Tony Scott did bring joy to many. It's really a shame that other things took over to where he felt he couldn't cope anymore. Just.... tragic. Thanks Tony for all you did for the film industry and film lovers, and of course, for The Airforce... you were an artist.

I love great dogfighting with planes but the best dogfighters on Earth are hummingbirds. They are so fast, can reverse course in a second and go backward at rates that bone-crushing for humans if we could build a plane that flew like they do. They are truly unreal dogfighters.

One of my favorite songs especially favorite movies!! The top gun Anthem, Might Wings, and the Danger Zone are my favorite and these are the songs that I would want to be played at my graduation especially when I get my associates and bachelors degrees!

In my highschool, the guitar part was a standard piece for our CAT (citizens army training) drum and bugle corps to play. The ones designated to play the lyre had to learn to play this piece, year after year hehehehehe

The "Terminal 21" mall in Pattaya, Thailand had a fighter plane on display outside it's front doors and every so often it plays this song. It is so cool hearing that coming across the speakers as the sun is going down!
