    Note: please, for the love of got make sure that, if you're gonna run the ntsc-j, make sure to get the original 1996 release, and not the 1997 rumble pak release. The easiest way to tell them appart is the cartridge label. 1996 has mario with the wing cap. 1997 has mario facing off against bowser. The 1997 has slower loading times, and patches out many glitches, mainly the backwards long-jump, meaning that playing 1, 0, 16 and 30 star runs on the 1997 release is impossible

  • @aaronTGP_3756
    @aaronTGP_3756 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me, many of the features that are good for emulators are useless, since I was lucky to grow up with an old Nintendo 64 (NTSC-U). So a screen capture is out of the picture. But I've done what I can with my limited recording tools, with a webcam to record.
    So far, my 16 star runs have been improving. I started at 40-50 minutes, but now I'm at a 28:53, with lots of room for improvement.

    • @SeanRaider

      It's a little hard to explain. It's a 2 step process:
      1) Right click on splits and click Edit Splits. Click on the Additional Info tab and select EMU on the bottom Platform section.
      2) Right click on livesplit and click Edit Layout then click the Layout Settings button. At the top, scroll over and click on World Record. Check the Variables checkbox at the bottom.

    Heyhey^^
    I bought a Gamecube controller the other day and connected it to my OLED Switch using a USB adapter. It works fine, however I can't use the L button on the controller (top left) on the Mario 64 version (from the Switch Online subscription)...why doesn't the L button work there? How else can I duck/perform certain moves with Mario in the game?
    The button works everywhere else, including Smash Bros Ultimate. It's just in Mario 64 that the L button doesn't work, as I said.
    Thanks for any help!

    I patched a ROM with Usamune and it even said Usamune ROM at the main menu but hitting down on the D-Pad still does nothing. Any ideas? Been practicing movement following this for a couple of hours and I've improved a lot, thanks a lot for including your button presses on the videos. Helps a lot with learning timing.

    • @SeanRaider
      @SeanRaider  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm really glad to hear they've helped. The usamune issue is bizarre though. If the rom is running, I'm assuming you already set the memory size to 8mb. The only other thing I can really think of is that your dpad isn't bound. Try going to Options -> Configure Controller Plugin and setting dpad down manually. You could even try setting it to a key on your keyboard for testing. If all else fails, I have a slightly outdated usamune file (already patched) in the #downloads channel in my discord server that I know works, link to join is in the description.

      No, nothing yet on speedrun.com. You could still speedrun on it though, leaderboards don't matter much. Overall I'd just recommend going emulator though, I don't even think you can get usamune on PC port either.

    • @SeanRaider
      @SeanRaider  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't recommend playing on a TV (unless it's an old CRT). TVs are made to have more input lag, though it depends on the TV I guess. Plus if you're using an N64 or Wii, the console will have to upscale the picture to fit the screen's resolution, causing even more input lag. If you're playing on PC though, the TV might be okay.

    • @SeanRaider
      @SeanRaider  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I know, a PAL N64 can't play any NA or JP cartridges, so a gameshark or everdrive wouldn't help you unless it was specifically listed as PAL. I highly recommend you just play on emulator instead so you have access to the practice tools there.

    What button mappings do you prefer for Xbox 360 controllers?

    • @SeanRaider
      @SeanRaider  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a tough one. I used left trigger for crouch but I know some people prefer a bumper instead because a button press is more precise. I liked using B for Jump and A for Punch, but those could easily be switched. Otherwise the c buttons were on the right stick and the analog stick is the analog stick. Sorry if that's not helpful, I can answer more specific questions if you want.

    what button layout would you recommend for speedrunning sm64 with a gamecube controller?

    • @SeanRaider
      @SeanRaider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like using Left Trigger for crouch, but Z would be fine too. I use A for jump and B for dive, then I bind X and Y to Cleft and Cright, giving you camera buttons which are a lot easier to spam than the C stick. I still use the C stick for zooming in and out though.

    I feel that certain inputs get lagged or dropped on Project 64. Has anyone else come across this issue? It's almost impossible to triple jump or do a standing turnaround.The problem is I'm using the exact timing that I'm seeing in this guide and I'm failing to do those moves. I'm using project 64 and a Nintendo switch GameCube controller adapter. Perhaps I just suck and need to get good?

    • @SeanRaider
      @SeanRaider  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      EU cartridges are the same as JP cartridges. You gotta either sand off the tabs in your n64 or take the back of the cartridge from another JP/EU game and screw it onto the NA game. EU consoles run at a much slower fps though, so they're awful for speedrunning.

    • @SeanRaider
      @SeanRaider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dolphin, being a Wii emulator, can natively read Gamecube inputs because a Wii can. That's why you can use an official Wii U/Switch adapter to make it work. When you're using any other platform (non Wii/GC emulators or any PC game), you need to make the computer read your GCC as a standard controller input. The Mayflash adapter has a PC mode you can switch on to do this, and Raphnet's adapter does this automatically. However with an official nintendo one, you need to use Massive's driver software.
