Plus, I saw a interview from Micheal Jordan and he even agreed.. But, hey, there's definitely 5 to 10 people that you could say that about and there's no way to solve that debate, it's like Religion, so, I agree to disagree..Just curious though, like WHO?

    • @marknorris1381
      @marknorris1381 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CryptoBellwether I have been a golfer, just a club golfer but I played off a single figure handicap. It is a big business sport and as I said he dominated during his time at the top, golf isn't the only sport being played on planet earth. How about Michael Phelps for starters? 23 Olympic gold medals, next highest is 9, with several athletes equal on 9. That's what you call putting daylight between yourself and everyone else, in the history of the Olympics since it started. In women's squash Heather McKay went unbeaten from 1962 to 1981 (when she retired), won the British Open (the unofficial world championship) 16 times, world open as well a couple of times when they brought it in. In those tournaments she barely dropped a set. She only ever lost 2 matches in her career, before she started her unbeaten run. No one even close to that record in the history of that sport. Donald Bradman had a test cricket average of 99.94, next highest in history is 61, he set records in the 30's/40's that haven't been broken, and his career at the top spanned 20 years. If you are from the USA cricket is a team sport you wouldn't be interested in, but when you throw India and Pakistan in the mix two countries who are fanatical on the sport their populations tally about 1.44 billion people, so it's a team sport that has a massive following, far greater than golf. Eliud Kipchoge is another example, in the marathon, the toughest of events. They have what are called the marathon majors, he's completed in 14 of them (including the Olympics) and won 12, not to mention that he is the world record holder in the event and has broken his own record. No one comes close to his race perfornances in the marathon majors, he also had a win streak in the marathon majors of 8 consecutive races he entered between 2014 and 2019. In 17 marathon races he's only been beaten twice. That's several off the top of my head without even looking into it, there would be others. Nicklaus still has the record number of majors as well if I recall correctly.

      GOAT isn't a point in time. Various players have have shorter runs of greater success than Jack. Bobby Jones is still the only man to actually win a Grand Slam. Ben Hogan was greater over a short stretch in which he won. In 1953 Hogan entered only 6 tournaments and won 5 including 3 majors. GOAT is measured over a career and in golf that means only one thing and that's majors. It's always been that way and always will be that way in spite of Tiger fan's attempts to rewrite the rules of how greatness is measured in golf. Until someone gets to 19, Jack is GOAT, zero question, end of story.

    • @timoteojuans1964
      @timoteojuans1964 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Johnny Penso that is a bit hardlined I'd say. The way I see it is how many majors you won is probably most important but how you won, what level of competition you played against and how much better you were than rivals also factors in. Tiger is the best that ever did it.

  • @itzanopinion
    @itzanopinion 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I find it both *interesting* and yet *laughable* that when it comes to determining the *GOAT* in any sport, there's no *consistency* when it comes to the criteria used by both the *analysts* in said sport, whether it's Baseball, Football, Basketball, NASCAR, F1, Golf, Hockey, etc., etc., or the *Fans*.
    For instance, when ever one mentions who the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) is when talking about Golf, Jack's name is always mentioned at #1!
    Why?
    Simply because he has the most Majors @ 18!
    So, in this regard, Golf's greatest is measured by "Majors" aka Championships!
    NEVER does his 'character' as a person come into play and how it relates to "greatness"...that is, until somewhere in the same sentence, you mention two words
    Tiger. Woods.
    Had TW been able to stay healthy and kept his personal issues from becoming public, surpassing 18 Majors is a bet I would go *all in on*
    But even if he had, there would still be those w/in the Golf Community who would find any reason to knock him down and uphold their *IDOL* Jack to a different set of standards!
    Even in the comment section here on this video, more than one person has brought up character as something that should be taken into consideration of "greatness on the golf course".

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ItzAn Opinion
      Your observation is spot on...
      If and when tiger breaks Jack's record the excuses will come pouring out of why he's not the GOAT, people and there opinions are the laughing stock of society.
      I don't give a rat's ass about tigers problems, I only care about that he is the greatest PLAYER the sport has ever seen and that it needs to be solidified by him beating Jack's major record. I can recall saying to myself when he first wiped the field that I had been watching second rate golf until he showed up. His abilities where so far ahead of everyone else's.

Now a man of Hogan's pride doesn't do that if he though he would be outplayed....I believe Hogan knew we was smarter and hit the ball better and was more likely to come out on top, i.e. that he was the best regardless of major wins, etc. Hogan didn't have the luxury of an uninterrupted career like Nicklaus and other modern players. And btw, Tiger Woods didn't make the greatest comeback in sports. That honour belongs to Ben Hogan alone, arguably. I refer of course to the horrific car/bus crash that almost killed him and left him physically impaired for the rest of his life and yet he still went on to winning golf.

    I think there's still not even a conversation to be had about the GOAT. Jack is by far the GOAT over Tiger. His major record just dwarfs Tiger's. Yes, Tiger is within 3 wins, but after that? What if he did tie Jack? He's not going to, but let's say he does: Then you look at the rest of the major record, and it's pretty skewed towards Jack. Jack has only 4 less 1st and 2nds combined than Tiger has Top 5's combined. It's not close, only the wins are close, but when Tiger wasn't winning he usually wasn't even in the picture. But like all the panty-waste fame seekers you joined the club to destroy Tiger and say negative things about him like you were so sinless, and you joined the mainstream group to condemn the man that fed you and your family. That really showed that you never ever really had love for Tiger, you were just an opportunist and you jumped the ship when the storms of life hit, so your character is completely flawed and no one really cares now what you have to say about Tiger. I believe Tiger may have still been a great player even without Stevie on the bag, but probably not quite as great as he was with him by his side. I'd bet if Tiger would be honest about the subject, he'd probably agree.
      All you have to do is look at Fluff, (Tigers 1st Caddie) do you really think Jim Furyk would have been as successful with a different Caddie? Fluff was fired for profiting from Tigers success. Tiger couldn't stand someone else profiting from the game he played and felt he was disloyal to him because of it. Tigers loss was Jim Furyks gain. I'll stop there, I could go on forever regarding just how great Tiger is or isn't. Give credit were credit is due... Tiger definitely elevated the game during the 2000's, can't take that away from him.
