I rent and true, I don't build wealth through home equity. But my modest one bedroom in Omaha suits me and allows me to pursue other financial goals. Living cheaply is possible in Omaha, fortunately

@econdude3811 There is nothing wrong with living frugally and living cheaply in order to achieve your financial goals. Thanks for the comment.

Owning a house is so expensive and there are so many rules with HOA’s. AND you never actually own the house because of property taxes.

The equivalent of paying a sales commission is the Lease Breakage Fee for renters. It's not as high as a sales commission, but these days the penalty can be 2 months rent. Depending on your monthly rent that can be sizeable.

I've heard it's three months where I live, but I never tried to do that

There's more of a plus to buy, but renting has its advantages to. 😊

Agreed. I think it boils down to time frame and preparedness. Having money saved for repairs and if a person hits a rough patch. Thanks for the comment.

Other than Redfin, is there a good online resource to look at or find For Sale by Owner properties?

Great question! I would suggest Zillow, however, it takes a few extra clicks because they want to push you to homes listed by agents. I would avoid Craigslist because of scammers. The other place you can find FSBOs is on Facebook marketplace. Again, be carefull.

hi , how frequent is the damage of the roof due to climate_?

We get thunderstorm activity quite often. However, the hail does not hit an area uniformly. One part of town will get damage and another part won't get any damage. Does that make sense? Thanks for the comment.
