Im 22 and I've lived in Omaha and Bellevue for all of my life and honestly, its a great plave to live. As an mechanic with no college experience, I actually make enough to support my wife and daughter with my wife only working 3 days a week. I was in OPS all through elementary and BPS though middle and high and feel like they provided a great education with many extracurricular activities and a relatively safe environment. One thing I didnt know about was the radon and lead. Definitely something I have to keep an eye on in the future. Thank you for this very informative video.
Jake, congratulations on your success as a mechanic. It sounds like you are off to a great start. I am glad you found the video helpful and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Thank you!
Hello :)- As a former resident of Northern California for over 35 years, I left the state in 2011 and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada which has unfortunately turned into a suburb of LA with all of their B*LL$H*T laws and cost of living!!! After 13 years of living here, I am completely over the cost of living and attitude!!!! As a rideshare driver for over 9.5 years now. I meet a lot of people from all over the country and world. I recently had passengers from Omaha and I have now focused on relocating to Omaha :)-
If you can, you should give us a visit. Check out the zoo, the Gene Leahy Mall, and the Old Market area, explore the different parts of town along with some of the surrounding suburbs. If you visit, let me know, and we can grab a coffee. We are not perfect, but we are worth a look. Best of luck, and thanks for the comment.
Excellent video, Dave, I just got my real estate license in July and had a brokerage class with you. It was great to bump into your video and see you again!
Jeff, Congratulations on passing the exam and obtaining your license! Thanks for taking the time to comment. Hopefully, we will do a deal together soon!
I’ve lived here in Omaha my entire life. I never knew a million people lived here. That’d explain why I see so many assholes on the road when driving for work.
Erik, yes they do. I never tried them until a few weeks ago for an upcoming video. Actually, they are pretty good. Next year, I should do a video when they have the Testicle Festival! Thanks again for the comment.
I am glad you found it helpful. If you need any assistance or have any questions, feel free to give me a call. 402-490-6771 Just curious, where are you moving from? Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
I'm moving from Jonesboro Arkansas we Visted in July this year and we loved it I'm very interested in moving there I have a younger brother that has lived there since 2007 and he said he loves it he was a teen when he left now je has his own family married and doing well he bought a home him and his wife...he's a social worker and a mentor.
Good balanced info. One caution about roofing companies. In Florida, home owners misused their hone owner's insurance by putting on new roofs on the advice of roofing companies. This led to excessive costs for insurance companies. Now, insurance companies won't insure you unless your roof is 5 years old or newer. This practice is starting to spread to other parts of the country.
@@Bldgrn034I mean if you don’t want to have fun, make money or have any nice stores Nebraska is great, but as a Nebraskan I can tell you it sucks and it’s worse the more money you make. There ain’t shit to do here
Great question! Yes! There is a homestead exemption for QUALIFIED seniors. Here is the link for Douglas County: www.dcassessor.org/homestead-exemptions
I’ve always lived in major cities Orange County California, Dallas Texas, Chicago Illinois, and now Miami Florida, maybe that’s why when I went to Omaha for 4 months to work I hated it there so bad. It’s so small and boring, drivers are the worst would see crashed cars left and right, and the roads are terrible. Been to almost all 50 states and lots of different cities and I gotta say Omaha is forsure in my top 3 worst cities in the US. That’s why I always assumed it was so cheap to live there.
I’m thinking the weather is a matter of preference. I live in San Antonio, have to stay inside due to the oppressive heat for months at a time. My son and his family live in Omaha. I visit frequently and I’m outside all the time. I’m moving to Omaha in Spring of 2024.
Omaha needs to get on the transit game! The ORBT is great, but needs expansions. LRT should be planned, and the street car expanded, as well as the ORBT to get new routes to the exburbs that commute heavily. Like Bellevue
Can someone help me to understand the vehicle registration taxes as well. In California we have to smog every other year and we pay registration every year which is about 300$ a year. These taxes seem to be more than car registration in California which is baffling to me considering Nebraska is supposed to be a cheaper state.
They would be more than 300 for expensive, new cars. They would be less than 300 for the majority of cars. Mine (2013 car, 25k msrp) is about $60, for example
Natasha, you might check with www.fhasinc.org/ and see if they can point you in the right direction. Unfortunately, my area of expertise is in residential sales. Affordable housing is almost nonexistent everywhere. Best of luck.
As of 05/30/2024 The Governor ordered a special session of the Unicameral to attempt to drop property taxes by 40%. A home can't pass a VA inspection without a Radon detector. Violent crime is NOT a significant problem outside of South and North Omaha. Yes, we are sinking a ton of money into a streetcar money pit because Mutual of Omaha blackmailed the city into it. Is Omaha a good place to live, overall yes, just make sure you don't move into South or North Omaha.

We live in Reno and it's not any better than Vegas. We're also considering moving to Nebraska

The general citizenry of Nebraska in general are very good people❤❤❤
Not when they're driving. Way too much road rage going on around here.
Thank you for the tips on living in Nebraska and everything you said is 💯 true I've been there and so everything

Exciting! Just curious, what is bringing you to Omaha? (If you don't mind sharing.) Thanks for the comment.
Stay there stop invading the country

I like the weather in Omaha most of the time. I'd rather cold winters than extreme heat, exotic creatures (like rattlesnakes), or hurricanes.
I agree with you on that! I am not a fan of poisonous snakes! Thanks for the comment.
Saw the sign for Testicle Festival on the Steak House you mentioned. Never knew there was such a thing.

Lake Worth Florida more to do when retired. I don't play golf

When in Omaha I was on the Good Morning SHOW with Gary Saddlemyer for 5 years at 5:35 am, had my own talk show on kpoa TV and more

lol wait that steak house said "Testicle festival" ahhh yo :D.
That is true! They have a testicle festival every June, they serve fried bull testicles at RTB too.
Around the bend has the testicle festival
People in Omaha are generally great....but the condition of the roads, property taxes and weather aren't great.

Carter Lake (Iowa) is actually where the airport is
No it is actually in Omaha, Ne. You drive thru Iowa for about 3 minutes on the way to the airport.
Very, very, very high taxes on everything; no public transportation to anywhere; low wages, people move after college because Nebraska loooow wages.
There is really 1 thing you need to know. Don't move there. I grew up there. There are more reason to not move there than live there!
Omaha is awful. Why would anyone want to move here. Worst place I've ever moved to and can't escape from. If you value your life don't move here.
Don’t. The roads are horrible and so is the weather. Nice people though.
Adam, I have to agree with you on all three! Thanks for the comment!
I'm from the general area --- the people are phony AF
Omaha is so fucking expensive. You need 2 full time $20 + an hour jobs just to barely survive. Can’t wait to move back to NC. NC is where it’s at
