    For me it's just my passion. Most of Omaha's video game development sector is independent developers, hobbyists or industry professionals outsourcing to other states. There's not really jobs here for that line of work here despite having a pretty bustling community of talent. Studios that start in nebraska are doomed to fail despite having a large number of people passionate and talented enough here to make games. I'm just going where the work is. Unless some studio get's a big break here that kickstarts a market, it's not really worth working beyond the transfer degree.

    Wanna make people move to and stay in Omaha (and therefore Nebraska) do this: drop that stupid wheel tax (I've NEVER had a flat tire in my life. Until I moved to Omaha NE) UPDATE. THE. ROADS. I come.from Virginia, a state highly regarded for its ability to maintain and upkeep the roads. You do that, you'll be golden. Get rid of HOAs. Hoas are so trash and the idea of them is just to charge families that already have a hard time covering the costs of living harder. Outlaw them. Buy into the fact that Omaha is a family oriented place. This city is one of the BEST places to raise children. Make it better and you will get people to move here.

    Old market is full of homeless people. After redoing the park they increased police downtown a lot. Plenty of suicides from the new walking bridge into a river that is pretty much 100% of death. Hope your car doesnt break down near downtown, Those catalytic converters will be gone. Maybe omaha was decent back in 2017 and below due to the cost of living but now prices have doubled and honestly can't say its worth it. Used to have a home in west omaha, One of the nicest places in omaha for 1100 a month for rent. That same place is now well over 2k. The house was only worth maybe 140k-150k cookie cutter build and is now worth a 350k to 450k for that area. Rent of my current home used to be 800 and now is worth $1,600 in just 2 years.

    nice place ...BUT... One if the highest property taxed counties in the United States. Was once a nice little town, but now apartments and car washes EVERYWHERE! The city planner genuises installed man hole covers in the right side lane ...so you'll be replacing your right front wheel bearings a few times. potholes everywhere thats not under construction. Car registration & taxes are INSANE! Omaha has historically had a transient population so don't expect that "friendly Midwestern hospitality". People are kinda rude generally speaking. They love the huskers...but they s*ck most of the time. Public schools are nice...but getting liberalized. Stay outta Nebraska medical center. you most likely won't make it out. the staff went woke. other than that...rock on.

    As noted in the video: you "need" a vehicle. However, the driving experience here is horrible. There are multi-month long construction projects that seemingly never progress. There are potholes all over the place, also mentioned. However, the traffic lights are also timed so that it's not uncommon or rare to hit over 90% of the lights on any drive across the metro. This frustrates drivers to the point of driving unsafely, excessively speeding to "beat" the light or running them all together.

    It's not that simple. We already produce record amounts of oil If oil prices go down - many american oil companies will not make a profit and shut down production. Other countries can retaliate by producing more cheaper oil and still make a profit, further reducing american production.

    • @lannysix2569
      @lannysix2569 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Exactly. Add in the refinery restrictions this country faces. Huge refineries in California Refineries imported oil because it's cheaper to transport than US oil. Plus, the US cannot survive solely on the grades of crude oil produced in the US.

    I'd be cautious about thinking there will be more drilling. In the last week the major oil producers have stated they are very happy with the current price of oil, and drilling expansion will just lower the price on the commodities markets. Oil was cheap during Trumps 2017/2019 admin because the Saudis began a price war to eliminate U.S. shale oil which was flooding the markets, cutting into Saudi profits. To remedy that, the U.S. companies struck a bargain with the Saudis, and along with Trumps request in April 2020 and October 2020, to cut production, colluded to do so. To drill more will just cut into the profits of the producers.

    Living in Omaha for about 21 years now with my first 20 being in Indianapolis. I prefer Omaha over Indy big time, but the lack of professional sports teams kind of sucks and the taxes are no joke. Property taxes on a $400,000 house in Omaha would be the same as a $2.5 million dollar house in Indianapolis. Vehicle taxes are also insane. In Indiana the taxes are rolled into the price of the vehicle so to plate it is maybe $300, but in Omaha you could be looking at $5000 to $10,000 for a modern vehicle and registration each year is a portion of the vehicles value so renewing your registration the next year could be $1,000+ and it really doesn't drastically drop until the vehicle is over 10 years old.

    I love and hate this state. As an engineer, for a state with brain drain issues, it’s quite surprising the lack of good offers and competitive salaries relative to our neighbors. Would also like to point out the corruption of our governor banning lab grown meat while also owning the biggest hog farm in the state. That same hog farm in which a kid died working on and whose cause of death was undetermined and they never got in trouble for.

    I think one of the reasons graduates don’t stay is cause a lot of them are from in state and their looking to “leave the nest” if you will. Or if their not from in state they came for a specific program and have the means to move anywhere in the country for a job. I went to school at Northest in Norfolk and the Utility Line program was one of the few in the country so they had students from all over the country enrolled. Not all these students stayed in NE, they moved where ever the jobs were. My wife did PT school at Creighton and we moved to Sioux Falls cause it’s relation to where our parents live and because they had the perfect opportunity my wife was looking for.

If you don't mind living literally 15 feet from the fire station...but I'm sure many luxury apartments are being built in the Omaha area and this gives people more options to be happy with where they live without the burden and cost of a house
