i live here and i can say there is nothing to do if you dont watch/do sports and been to the zoo enough times to get bored of it. duis and drama is all the teens do and no rollercoasters, no raceway other than a dirt circle track can't take motorcycle or car on a track unless i travel 4+ hours away. at will state jobs can fire you for any reasons they choose. compared to many other states nebraska has a higher property and state tax. have no conventions and if you try to start a furry or anime one here youll get treated horribly. funflex is the only fun thing in nebraska and it a very small amusement park mostly meant for kids
Of 50 states, corruption in Nebraska is demonstrated by not recognizing punitive damages in any way. Only Nebraska has that policy. State Farm Insurance company laughed in my face after 30 years as a customer, they submitted a 100% false doctor's report to deny payment on a claim. I caught them and got it in writing from my own doctor that it was false, and his actual report supported my claim. She laughed in my face when I told her I planned to sue the pants off her, as she informed me of that odd zero punitive damage law. She was correct. I packed up my life and moved to Iowa. Only NE out of 50 states has that punitive damages outlawed corrupt loophole.
Wouldn’t a false insurance report be insurance fraud… which I believe is a crime? Not that it’s worth your time, but it seems to me you could pursue criminal actions related to denial of your claim.
I moved here from NJ…similar taxes, but Omaha is full of arts and music, easy to get around, and the weather is sunny compared to East Coast…I’m having a great time here…. If you think the grass is greener, you’re not going to be happy anywhere…there’s plenty here to enjoy
You know the old saying "It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there." ? Omaha is like the opposite. It's a nice place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit lol
@@MyGrassIsGreenest Um no, Omaha is both a nice place to live and a place to visit for the size of a medium city, I haven't seen a medium sized city that's as vibrant as Omaha. I always get compliments compliments from outsiders in how much Omaha impresses them and how it exceeded their expectations. Here in Omaha we have the right balance of tourist and those that want to live and that's why we are stable.
I moved from Denver to Omaha in June 2024 and honestly, I love it here. It helps that my job can be done remotely so I was able to just move wherever I wanted, but even after factoring in taxes, it is just so much cheaper to live here (although, to be fair, I'm renting and did not buy), and Omaha strikes a great middle ground between big city and small town charm, and has an actually incredible local food scene. As someone who has lived in Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, Colorado, and now Nebraska, this is the first place I've considered actually making a permanent residence.
The food scene is pretty good. Covid killed a lot of mom and pop restaurants. I personally know three people who lost their restaurants during covid and they were around for a long time
We leave because if it's going to be expensive might as well be in a better city or somewhere that has a lot better weather. Nebraska just isn't worth it.
@@DavidMatneycould you cover politicians? I live in Hall and it seems like my property taxes are raised every year especially after Liberals control the White House.

I don't cover politics on my channel. I want to use my channel as a vehicle to educate and not divide. The property taxes are on a local level. For example, in Douglas County, over 50% are used by the local school district. Hopefully, you can understand. Thanks for the comment.
We have a close family friend. Him and his wife lived in Denver for a # of years. They moved to Omaha about 1-yr ago and have recently stated that they absolutely love it. Less traffic, less crime, people are a whole lot friendlier, and the cost of living is substantially lower.
Gee, I would think it would be cheaper in Denver with all the dope sales tax rhey are receiving. Are your liberal politicians embezzling it? Someone needs to follow the money.
Lived in Nebraska first 30 years, then Denver for 14. Now back in Omaha. Best decision ever being back in Nebraska...Omaha meh! Watched the steady decline and disaster that was legalized pot in Colorado...never here!!!
If you look at maple street out west compared to any other street in Douglas that’s not a highway, you can see how much worse the city roads are. Any road the state takes care of is in way better condition.
Having lived in Nebraska for 80 years, the weather is a high point for comments. Change is exciting 50 one day 90 the next. The people are our biggest asset. Nebraskans are wonderful to lend a hand when needed. There is no place like Nebraska !
Boomers and GenX left because "it's boring." Millennials leave because of the tax burden on buying a house and starting a family. Sure, other states typically have higher home prices, but they also have much higher salaries, lower/no income taxes, lower property taxes, lower vehicle and wheel taxes, and if you're from one of the smaller towns with a meatpacking plant, your hometown has been overrun by migrants who hate white people and refuse to adapt to the culture.... unless there's major changes, they won't be coming back like older generations did.
I been here for 23 years. Why can't nebraska figure out how to do 24/7 road construction. If you run three shifts you don't spend an hour at start setting up and an hour cleaning up. That 2 hrs wasted every day. There is plenty to do so just keep the project going
As one of those young people, most of the people I’ve known that have left have done so because of “opportunity” (like you mentioned), big city or environmental allure, and, unfortunately, the unwelcoming policies of the state of Nebraska (more recently). Young people generally look at rent prices, and not property taxes or home insurance costs, because we can’t afford to actually purchase. While those can be root causes of higher rent prices, young people looking at rent prices from one city to another are not considering the underlying policies that impact it. What we do with that information provides a great opportunity for creative solutions.
As an active duty airman living in the southern area of Omaha, I am truly surprised by how good this place turned out to be. I like it here, it’s calm and relatively lower crime than other “big” cities.
There's an unreleased documentary on boystown. Ik you're military, me too...but this city is evil & be wary of warren Buffett and the other slave owners living in Nebraska that depend on illegal immigration & hooman trafficking
e@DavidMatney Before I moved here, I asked around about the difference for the weather and was told "it's 10 degrees warmer in the summer and 40 degrees warmer in the winter". Works for me.
I agree, I think our winters are down to two - three months tops now.. and then the furnace kicks on again.. the problem is the heat in late spring summer and most of fall.. 🥵
As someone who grew up in nebraska for over 20 years and lived in Omaha for a few years sfter college, I do sppreciate Omaha for what it is. However, I live in Phoenix now and like it so much better. It has better roads, less taxes, and there's endless possibilities for things to do. I can hike in Sedona in 2 hours, ski s mountain in 3 hours, and be on a mountain bike trail in 45 minutes. And scottsdale has lots of entertainment options.
@@DavidMatney No problem and your video is very accurate, definitely pros and cons of living in Omaha. Nebraska will always hold a piece of my heart. Omaha does have nicer people compared to Arizona, and I still miss that. I just wish Omaha would pay people more and offer more in terms of entertainment.
One thing they forgot to mention is Nebraska is located in the SUCK zone . It is not totally immersed in the area of boring scenery but it is pretty close. There is a huge area including Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota and North Dakota where when one is travelling that they would rather slit their wrists than have to travel the area again due to no descent scenery or the cost of everything.
No way I saw one of my favorite teachers! I had no idea she made the board of education. I’ll be the first to tell you she is one of the best to fill the seat. I’ve never met someone more inclusive and respectful, while also standing on a decent moral compass than she is.
As a recent college grad, I also happen to think that part of it is the culture war. 17% of people in college identify as LGBT. Before, being in Omaha felt pretty safe for the Midwest. You would meet with people who "didn't agree with the lifestyle," but Nebraska Nice reigned supreme and you could have a beer with most people. The mood has shifted in the last few years and it's certainly getting scarier to live here. It's gone from "I don't agree with the lifestyle" to "you are a poison." This is anecdotal, but I know several highly ambitious people who are being educated on-scholarship in Nebraska who are moving the moment they graduate to get somewhere that feels more like it wants them. I've got a fantastic job here, family who I don't want to leave, and enough for a downpayment but I'm hesitating to buy here because I'm afraid of the logistical problems that might cause it I have to leave.
I miss the days when people could disagree without demonizing the other person. I don't think social media helps either. I do have hope for the future. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to comment.
Just moved here and there is a lot of things I like but a lot of things I hate. It used to cost me $200 for 2 years to register my car. I paid $2200 for one year on that same car… don’t know how people can afford that. And with those -rices there is NO REASON our roads should be like this, you can blame it on the weather because the state I came from had amazing roads and it’s worse winters then here
I love Nebraska and every time I travel outside of Nebraska for work I really miss it and I miss the people, when there’s a cookout and you’re invited you’re treated like family everywhere you go you’re greeted by people who are proud of Nebraska
As noted in the video: you "need" a vehicle. However, the driving experience here is horrible. There are multi-month long construction projects that seemingly never progress. There are potholes all over the place, also mentioned. However, the traffic lights are also timed so that it's not uncommon or rare to hit over 90% of the lights on any drive across the metro. This frustrates drivers to the point of driving unsafely, excessively speeding to "beat" the light or running them all together.
I’m a disabled vet looking to move to Nebraska. Property taxes don’t bother me since I am exempt . But you brought up a lot of other points that are kinda making me reconsider . Thank you for your information
Disabled vet here. If you decide to move here, make sure you put in your exemption paperwork before the cut off date (sometime in Summer/Fall). We closed on our house in September and missed the cut off date and then had to pay taxes for an entire year which was expensive! Look at towns outside of Omaha…like Papillion, Elkhorn, Gretna.
We're in Lincoln, and ours was also out for about a week. One person in our family tried to go out in it to check on part of the roof falling. He later said he felt like he was going to blow away - he didn't know the windspeed at the time.
I moved here from Florida and I have to say I miss home. Although we get a lot of rain, the sun shines differently in south FL. I don't think this city is for me, but I do love that the "Nebraska Nice" holds true based on my experiences so far.
Omaha I think is pretty conservative. Like you dad, uncles and grandpa conservative. I like it that way. If you spend miserly you can get by just fine. I bought a house in Hanscom Park South in 2016 for 80K. My payment is under 800 per month, Ins. included. 3.5% loan, my credit score was 822! That fact surprised me. Only had to put 3K down.
crazyredhare Good for you! You've obviously handled your money wisely & made some good decisions in general. KUDOS to you for that! Not a lotta people can say that!😊
Me and my wife lived in Omaha for 22 years just this year we bought a house about an hour away in Iowa near red oak Traffic is way better Houses are cheaper. Better neighbors. U can see all the stars at night and. I say all this while still commuting everyday to Omaha for work so it’s a nice balance of city and country living
Lived in NE for 33 years and grew up in Elkhorn. I moved to Kearney, NE for college and I was so devastated when I saw Elkhorn damages it sank my heart. Lastly, Omaha has had a bad pot hole problem for over 15 years or more. Even in 2008 it was bad, I can't imagine how bad it is now. It does have a great school system, always said it's a nice place to raise a family. If you go to smaller areas in NE the crime drops way down.
taxes are insanee, most of my family has sold and left this summer. (old omaha family, in omaha since 1860s) we all bought new houses in the same town. prop taxes unaffordable and OPS keeps fighting jim pillan everytime he proposes tax cuts. love omaha but not the taxes and schools are a bottomless money pit with poor results.
That's heartbreaking to know families that have been here for many generations are bouncing out due to political greed. My thoughts & prayers go out to you & your family....❤❤❤

Yeah! It's expensive to live in Omaha ,Nebraska . But I like to live here. There are some things that does needs to be improvement like public transportation, jobs needs to be more of them in the city , road construction 🚧 is irritated 😑, and not enough houses for Omaha citizens to buy their own house.
Moved to Nebraska in 2021 with my wife from California and she couldn't stand the bland gray winter time. Winter of 2021 had very little snow and was just brown the entire season. Also, property tax is insane, vehicle tax is HIGH. We pay more taxes in Nebraska than we do back in California having an income right around 150K...pretty damn insane. Now we're back in SoCal, and while I miss the midwest vibe, there isn't any thing else I miss about it.
My son wants to move to California. Can you tell me where he should start and what he should expect for expenses? As a mom, I'm so nervous about him going out there.
I am an immigrant. Lived all over this planet. I am not white. I love here and the people who live here. If you don't like it, pack your things and move out. It is thay simple.
I moved to CB and found it to be way safer (at least in the part of town I live in) than Omaha. In Omaha (I was in West Omaha), I had to deal with frequent car break ins, package thieves, and even STABBINGS! In Council Bluffs I have experienced none of this.
Omaha has some of the dumbest slowest and also most aggressive drivers in the country. Houston is possibly worse due to traffic 24/7 but at least they know how to speed up and merge.
So true! I have lived all over the country and Omaha by far has the worst drivers I have ever seen. Omaha simultaneously has the most overly cautious and horribly reckless drivers I've ever seen (overall, the dumbest). I once almost got in a wreck because someone decided to cut across 3 lanes of traffic, going 50 mph, into my lane (the fast lane) where I was going 75. I had to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid hitting him. What's even worse is that there were 2 kids in his car, so it could've ended so horribly. That was the closest to death I have ever felt. Another time, I almost got into a wreck because someone who was stopped at a red light at an intersection for a good 5 seconds, while I was approaching in plain sight, decided that right when I entered the intersection was a good time for them to turn right on red. I had to swerve into the left lane to avoid T-boning him, and thank God no one was in the left lane. My light was fully green, not even yellow. This one is the most baffling to me because I genuinely don't understand his thought process. I feel like it must've been an insurance scam, because I can think of no other explanation to that level of stupidity and blatant poor decision making.
@@chrisk5985 Buddy its not an insurance scam they really are that bad. Zombies. I have driven over 100k miles in Omaha. If I dash cammed all of the things Ive seen Id have a million subscribers easy.

I’ve had I want to say at least 7-10 accidents here & I promise you NOT one was my fault. Then again, as you stated I wish I had a dash cam to prove it & show the stupidity of these drivers. I just got hit last week here @ the Wingstop parking lot in south Omaha. They literally backed up into my car. Like how do you not look in your rear view mirrors & not use your eyes. A little fender bender but regardless, I’m sick of how slow these people are. A majority of them shouldn’t even be behind a wheel.
Yes, twice, while staying at a Holiday Inn in Omaha, my service truck was broke into, and a bunch of my tools stolen. After that, I pay a buddy of mine, who lives just outside of town, to stay in a spare bedroom, when I work there. Omaha is not a place to take your service truck to, and spend the night in a hotel.
Good video David! Pretty much everything you're talking about in this video covers Lincoln as well. The taxes are absolutely ridiculous! Where is all this money going? We don't really see the results of all of these taxes, they just keep wanting more! The Pinnacle Bank arena was built roughly 10-12 years ago so we have an "occupation tax". Just a quick look at the cost of building the arena cost $179 million dollars. As of September of 2024 all the taxes for it have generated over $225 million dollars! It's more than paid off! Why am I still paying taxes for it? If the answer is to keep it up and running then my response is Shouldn't the people that go to the events be paying for it? I don't go there for anything so why should I be taxed for it?
@@karendavis7986I agree with you. But there again, I am an old farm boy, and just have never liked larger towns. I do have a son in the Omaha area, and they like being there. No alcohol at Memorial Stadium due to Tom Osborne. One problem with Omaha is that some find it boring. Any resourceful person can find something to do, myself included. Others can't handle that extra time on their hands and drink excessively or try to stir up problems with friends or relationships....
I have heard the same thing about Memorial Stadium. Alcohol still makes it into the stadium because people just get drunk before the game. Thanks for the comment.
I greatly enjoyed watching this video, and reading thru the other comments. I am 70 years old; everyone on both sides of my family lived in rural southeastern Nebraska. My wife's family is from SE Texas/ NW Louisiana; and we lived along the gulf coast from 1980 to 1999. We had four seasons down there: Summer, Summer, Summer, and Christmas! I currently live in Tennessee, and am planning a long overdue trip back to Nebraska, to visit relatives; probably in late October. It will be interesting to see if Lincoln is anything like I remembered.
@robertvavra414 I am glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you for taking the time to comment. I think you will be shocked at the amount of change since then. Go Big Red!
People who come here from outside Nebraska seem to like it quite a bit (I've met more Californians than I was expecting). People who are born and raised here, the most common complaint I've heard was that it was "boring" or "nothing to do". Me personally, as someone who walks everywhere and doesn't own a house and had seen snow maybe twice before moving here, I think it's quite pleasant here.
Google, Facebook, Amazon, PayPal, they're all out here. If you're a techy and you need work, this is the place. You can make good money. I work at one of the largest data centers in the world. Logistics, electricians, and material handlers. Security guards, too. There are a lot of jobs here.
Go roof a house down south, like Arkansas or Alabama. I imagine you would never complain again. It's hot here, but could be way worse. I think this guy is projecting a little because the candidates he supported lost. Or at least this is exactly what the sour people of reddit are vomiting. Yeah there's some truth to it, but you can move anywhere you want in Omaha. I went to a boarding school with people from all over the world, we were all brothers. The lunch table still appeared to be pretty segregated. People like being around their own culture often times.
@@BrandonHeald-d3rThe 'heat index' (feels like temperature with temperature and humidity) gets about as high here as anywhere. It's difficult to even drink enough fluids fast enough in that let alone work hard.
Really what it all boils down to are high taxes especially in Omaha. That's why many are opting to move out of Douglas county to surrounding counties. Nebraska has high taxes, but so do a lot of other states. Rather than just the data on Nebraska college graduates leaving the state I'd like to see what the total net of those moving in vs those moving out. Also, of note is that a majority of Creighton University students only come here for school and have no intentions of remaining. There are also a growing number who move to the east of the Missouri river into Council Bluffs, yet still work in Omaha. If you go purely of numbers Nebraska as a whole has been growing for a long time. This video needs way more context.
me too! I grew up here, moved to Texas for too long and moved back. Omaha is a great city and continues to get better. I have not met a visitor who wasn’t surprised and really liked our city. My friends all love living here.
@@mM-ff5ps I know alot of people who did regret leaving. I would agree with what you said. I would say most people truly enjoy coming back home and staying. Nebraska isn't a good fit for me, but I am not most people. I live in Phoenix now and I am very happy there.
Spending problem is the bottom line. Spending drives taxes and taxes are way too high. We have wasteful spending at all levels of government here. The weather isn't really that bad most of the time and there are lots of activities all over the city so anyone who claims they are bored are probably just boring themselves. Most other issues and facets of life here are similar to other cities around the country.
We were under contract to buy a house in Elkhorn but it was destroyed by the tornado in April and we had to find a new place. Thankfully we didn’t close yet so we were able to get our money back. We moved here from Alaska and love it here. It is wayyy cheaper here in Omaha than it was in Alaska so I guess it depends on where you are coming from or moving to. The house prices in Alaska are outrageous compared to here. More bang for your buck in Omaha
I am so sorry to hear about your purchase in Elkhorn. I am glad you were able to find a new place. I hope to visit Alaska someday. Just curious, if you don't mind sharing, what brings you to Omaha?
@ I felt horrible for the builder and all the builders and owners who lost so many homes. We were able to find another house from the same builder as we loved our house and the company who built it. This is where family is and we wanted to be closer to them after traveling for 20 years with the military.
No offense, but if you think taxes are why college graduates are leaving, you don't understand the people graduating from universities in Nebraska. Most of them are in-state students who have lived here their entire life and they want to leave. Simple as that.
1:11 I am a 21-year-old who's about to graduate college. The main problem I have with the state is that there's not enough things to do, aside from Lincoln or Omaha. I love my state but entertainment is not our strong suit.❤❤
You should travel to big states but continue to live here. I was born in NY, and I love the safety my kids have here. I would never want to expose them to the garbage of big cities.
Where so much of the waste of tax dollars IS the school system. Most of all those property taxes go to the school system AND over 65% of vehicle taxes go toward the school system.
I think one of the reasons graduates don’t stay is cause a lot of them are from in state and their looking to “leave the nest” if you will. Or if their not from in state they came for a specific program and have the means to move anywhere in the country for a job. I went to school at Northest in Norfolk and the Utility Line program was one of the few in the country so they had students from all over the country enrolled. Not all these students stayed in NE, they moved where ever the jobs were. My wife did PT school at Creighton and we moved to Sioux Falls cause it’s relation to where our parents live and because they had the perfect opportunity my wife was looking for.
Yup I'm stuck here in Omaha now and I'm desperately trying to get it out! Downtown and the sister city council bluffs across the river are absolutely flooded with homeless. They steal anything that isn't nailed down they'd build and cause all kinds of fire issues around the area. The violence has gone through the roof in both cities especially North Omaha there isn't a night that goes by that someone hasn't gotten shot been shot at or shot somebody. The traffic congestion especially in the Southern area of Omaha is just plain ridiculous. We're talking the traffic congestion you see in East Coast cities like New York during rush hour traffic. And speaking of traffic everybody who drives doesn't care about anyone or anything other than themselves they cannot absolutely refuse to put the cell phones down and just concentrate on the road they'll cut you off they'll break check youThey see that you want over and don't either match your speed so you can't get over or cut around you to get in front of you. Even though you were about to get out of their way anyways..... Almost all the accidents on our interstate system is caused by somebody who either refused to let somebody else over or force their way in. And let's not talk about what happens in construction zones....... The job is available to work here while there are numerous jobs they don't pay very well at all especially with the cost of living here on the rise. We have an overabundance of check and service related industry but not enough manufacturing to go around. The amount of neighborhoods they're building in the surrounding areas is astronomical but the house is there nobody with any job stores out of Omaha could ever afford those houses. As these are 3 and 400000 dollars up. But jobs are lucky very very lucky to see 50K in a year.
I'm sorry but I don't see that many homeless and I'm from the downtown area. I see the same amount of homeless as in the past, very few. You mentioned North Omaha, why are you living in the north side in the first place? Omaha is peaceful, I don't experience crime.

Thinking young people are leaving Omaha because of property taxes is one of the most hilariously dumb theories I’ve ever heard. Most of them cannot afford to buy a property to pay taxes on. Young people leave because wages are garbage.
My insurance rate actually decreased just now but just a bit, BUT they dramatically increased my wind and hail deductible with no option to lower it. The wind and hail coverage now makes it almost useless to have. It seems criminal.
I love Omaha but I’m thinking of leaving. I’ve been out of college for almost two years and there aren’t many job opportunities for me to afford the high housing costs including property taxes. You’d think living in a mid-size, Midwestern city can be affordable for someone in the middle class but unfortunately that’s no longer the case.
As someone who lives nearby in SW IA, Omaha is just a mess of a city. There are nice parts that's not the issue. It's that they added a chunk here and a chunk there, absorbed a town over there. And then slapped in roads to connect everything at random. You often backtrack to get somewhere, or have to go around this or that where roads don't go thru. By comparison, Lincoln has nice square blocks almost throughout, it's easy to get anywhere you need to get, it's a far more well thought out city design. I'm a farm kid and would never live in either, but I much prefer to visit Lincoln than Omaha.
No 1 reason I will not reside in Nebraska after I retire from the military is because of the taxes. Of the 7 places I’ve lived this is by far the worst taxed area
David I need to correct you on something that you mentioned about the restaurant tax. I'm not sure if you're aware but the tax of 2.5% is actually placed first on the cost of the meal itself. And then after that taxes figured out then the state and local sales tax is 7.5% is added on top of it. So not only are you paying the tax on the food for the restaurant tax but you're also paying a tax on that tax so it doesn't come out to 9 and a half percent it usually comes out to around 10%. And as much as I really liked our mayor and she has been better than previous mayors, when she first ran for the office she promised that the tax would be abolished within the first half of her first term and since she's now going to be running for at least what a fourth term and it still is here clearly I don't think she lied, but she realized that she can't go without it.
In terms of weather and roads, much of the Midwest experience is the exact same thing that we experienced. Taxes are what I don’t understand. Why is it that another state with a ton of rural land such as Kansas, or South Dakota, has much lower taxes than Nebraska?
@@w8what575 Trust me I know about the trafficking of the 80s and I am not surprised because i80 is one of the most important routes in the country and where ever there is a popular route, there will be more trafficking operations.
it really depends on your circumstances, i grew up in CA and my parents chose to move to Omaha. They love it and its obviously cheaper and i visit a lot and i like it too. As a student tho, i dont see a chance of me living here. Not too many opportunities like i can get somewhere else with my degree field. For retiring and growing a family, do it! For a college student or young adult looking for opportunities that arent solely agriculture, banking, pharmaceutical/medical, or transportation... probably better off somewhere else
Are they planning on doing anything to combat these insane tax rates on insurance and property tax? If they lowered them I could see so many people being more happy with that decision
@zack6905 Great question! Every year, there is talk, and some action has been taken by the unicameral and the governor, but not enough. Just my opinion. Thanks for the comment.
The Omaha college students that are leaving WILL return back after realizing that living out of state was a bad idea. Things like crime, assaults of sexual nature and cost of living in other states will make them rethink their decisions. I am a NYC native and moved here 2 years ago and it's the best decision I've ever taken!

I was a health care giver in WA and there's a group of Dr's that earn their income from denying valid claims.
WOW! I had no clue. Thanks for the heads up!
Moving from Nebraska to Iowa was the best decision I ever made.
Wouldn’t a false insurance report be insurance fraud… which I believe is a crime?
Not that it’s worth your time, but it seems to me you could pursue criminal actions related to denial of your claim.

Decent roads in sarpy, but terrible roads in Douglas, so much corruption in Douglas but no one ever calls it out.
Agreed. It does seem like Sarpy county does have roads that are in a little better shape. Thanks for the comment.
Douglas county itself does a great job on roads that are their responsibility. Omaha has serious issues on the roads they maintain.
If you look at maple street out west compared to any other street in Douglas that’s not a highway, you can see how much worse the city roads are. Any road the state takes care of is in way better condition.
No. Sarpy has bad corruption. Ever attend a city council meeting?

Having lived in Nebraska for 80 years, the weather is a high point for comments. Change is exciting 50 one day 90 the next. The people are our biggest asset. Nebraskans are wonderful to lend a hand when needed. There is no place like Nebraska !

people have become too soft, just because of a wind draft; they scream bad weather.
A lot of college graduates leave Omaha. But then, later in life once they wise up, a lot of them end up returning.
Exactly 👏🏾

Yes we are being taxed to death.
Nebraska doesn’t have food tax on grocery store food…only prepared food but most states have tax in all food
This has too be Douglas bc I never heard of a wheel tax or pay for one
I been here for 23 years. Why can't nebraska figure out how to do 24/7 road construction. If you run three shifts you don't spend an hour at start setting up and an hour cleaning up. That 2 hrs wasted every day. There is plenty to do so just keep the project going
That makes sense! Thanks for the comment.
How could they make excuses if they did that?
They are constantly doing road construction !

Wow as someone who's been in Nebraska most their life this makes too much sense

I paid $2200 for one year on that same car… don’t know how people can afford that. And with those -rices there is NO REASON our roads should be like this, you can blame it on the weather because the state I came from had amazing roads and it’s worse winters then here
It’s because they’re pocketing the money budgeted for the roads….wasteful spending and corrupt politicians is a big problem here
I love Nebraska and every time I travel outside of Nebraska for work I really miss it and I miss the people, when there’s a cookout and you’re invited you’re treated like family everywhere you go you’re greeted by people who are proud of Nebraska
Agreed. I moved to phoenix and the driving is so much safer.

Omaha has some of the dumbest slowest and also most aggressive drivers in the country. Houston is possibly worse due to traffic 24/7 but at least they know how to speed up and merge.
Yes! I lived in Beaumont, TX for 19 years. Daytime Houston traffic is 75 mph, bumper-to-bumper.
Just a quick look at the cost of building the arena cost $179 million dollars. As of September of 2024 all the taxes for it have generated over $225 million dollars! It's more than paid off! Ive literally not had a single person in my live leave Nebraska because they hate it. If anything they can't wait to come home
me too! I grew up here, moved to Texas for too long and moved back. Omaha is a great city and continues to get better. I have not met a visitor who wasn’t surprised and really liked our city. My friends all love living here.
@@JohnJelinek-y1uJust say you're a raging liberal and move on.
Haha then you haven't met me.
@hotsauce256 well of course I haven't. Hope you are happy where ever you are living now.
Omaha is not segregated! I have over 5 black families living on my block in west Omaha!
Is not the color of skin that segregates this city, it's income.
@@dmsullivan13 agreed!
Wait till tax payer subsidy " Border Czar harris's central-south american border invaders come to your street.-!!!😉
That's a very convenient way to ignore that South O is overwhelmingly hispanic, and North O is overwhelmingly african american.
VERY informative sir, thank you!!
You are welcome. Thanks for the comment.
@@DavidMatney Absolutely! God bless!
No offense, but if you think taxes are why college graduates are leaving, you don't understand the people graduating from universities in Nebraska. Most of them are in-state students who have lived here their entire life and they want to leave. Simple as that.
Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best explanation. Thanks for the comment.
1:11 I am a 21-year-old who's about to graduate college. The main problem I have with the state is that there's not enough things to do, aside from Lincoln or Omaha. I love my state but entertainment is not our strong suit.❤❤
I go to Metro Community College, Iove it.

Indefinitely not emitting to anything, But from what I've heard from my fellow nebraskans. Zaza laws don't get in the way. LOL
Why can't Nebraska do like Colorado.... Legalize marijuana in all of the prophets go back into the school system. Just sayin...

@@brendaweis1444Colorado is a terrible state to model. It's no wonder Colorado and Denver are going down the drain.
its so weird when i keep hearing my town being brought up
as a delivery semi driver. Road construction in Omaha sucks so much rerouting from one week to the next.
@williamgomez5876 I can believe that all the road construction has to be a nightmare for you guys. Thanks for the comment.
Literally sounds just like Denver. Our taxes are much higher than that as well. It's 20 percent after you add them all up.
Omaha is a great community and we are growing. We have great schools here. Millard is one of the top Districts in the region.
Honestly, I just moved to Nebraska and chose not to live in Omaha at first glance. But truthfully I've lived in worse places.
Getting taxed out of here! My property taxes increased by 17 percent this year alone.
Our city sales tax increased by 33 percent a few years ago.
The interstate system is too small for how much Omaha has grown.
Yeah....Keep voting for Democrats, you fools.
Well said!
A lot of homeless here and has become more violent
I'm sorry but I don't see that many homeless and I'm from the downtown area. I see the same amount of homeless as in the past, very few.
You mentioned North Omaha, why are you living in the north side in the first place? Omaha is peaceful, I don't experience crime.
@@Electrodexify well, Im so glad you have selective vision and an ivory tower to live in. Hope the view on floor 9,000 is great for you, after all you are far above all the ants beneath you.

@@watchingyoutalk6539 I am sure you are not alone. Thanks for sharing.
Winter?
As someone who chose to move to Omaha, back in the '80s when winter was worse and loves it here.
Dude, you can just move.
Thanks for the info on how the tax is calculated. I agree with your assessment of the mayor. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Bravo. And about the taxes....
With my wife, we moved from Florida here 6 months ago, and we live all seasons at all 😂
I'm just curious what caused the move to Florida? (If you don't mind sharing.)
If you not have kids, okej, I'm muving 5 years from Florida to Omaha lm planing 🎉 back to Florida
In terms of weather and roads, much of the Midwest experience is the exact same thing that we experienced.
Taxes are what I don’t understand. Why is it that another state with a ton of rural land such as Kansas, or South Dakota, has much lower taxes than Nebraska?
Great question!
I'm in Lincoln, but Omaha is the same in regards to human trafficking by government officials. The corruption is insane.
Human trafficking is everywhere not just a Nebraska issue
@@Electrodexifyit’s been a huge problem here since before the documentary was made in the 80s about boys town…where do u think they get all the kids?
@@w8what575 Trust me I know about the trafficking of the 80s and I am not surprised because i80 is one of the most important routes in the country and where ever there is a popular route, there will be more trafficking operations.
It makes me think twice every time I want to get into a new truck 🤯
Lived in Omaha from 2012-2014, because of this information, I would not move back even though I enjoyed living and working in Omaha.
it really depends on your circumstances, i grew up in CA and my parents chose to move to Omaha. They love it and its obviously cheaper and i visit a lot and i like it too. As a student tho, i dont see a chance of me living here. Not too many opportunities like i can get somewhere else with my degree field. For retiring and growing a family, do it! For a college student or young adult looking for opportunities that arent solely agriculture, banking, pharmaceutical/medical, or transportation... probably better off somewhere else
you are right. the property tax is getting crazier every year.
I love it here, but I agree property tax and insurance. Cost of living is increasing but still better than a lot of places
Thanks for taking the time to comment. If you don't mind sharing, where did you move from?
Nebraskan born and raised here, I love Nebraska but as a new driver I'm completely pissed off about how much traffic/construction there always is.
You forgot the temp. wheel tax that started at $2.00 😁 Great video mr. Dave
100% True! Thanks for the comment.
Wayne State College graduate here! I live in Elkhorn and love it here in Nebraska!
My Prius Gor destroyed by the roads here, the weather, taxes an lack of recreation is definitely a turn off to people who ain't use to this.
Yeah them saying it is a temporary tax is a joke, it never disappears
100% Thanks for the comment.
Just like the federal income tax, thanks Wilson.
The Omaha college students that are leaving WILL return back after realizing that living out of state was a bad idea. Things like crime, assaults of sexual nature and cost of living in other states will make them rethink their decisions. I am a NYC native and moved here 2 years ago and it's the best decision I've ever taken!
Most of them go to South Dakota state with the in state tuition agreement they have with each other. Trust me, when it comes to the things you mentioned, they'd rather stay there but won't due to it being "South Dakota."
