I just returned yesterday from my first ever trip to Malaysia and I have rented there a couple of cars within the past two weeks of staying there, namely an Axia (Standard G first facelift), Saga (first facelift Standard AT) and a Bezza (pre-facelift X). From all of them I enjoyed driving the Saga by far the most and I'm glad that it was the facelifted version, because with that one the great goodies you mentioned in the video came with the car. Although it was the cheaper variant, it came with two USB ports in the rear, floating infotainment system (no touchscreen though), 60 fps instrument cluster, LED interior lamps, infinite weave grill, Volvo style spelling on the boot lid and the 4-speed torque converter. It is a huge pleasure to drive it, despite of the little throttle lag it has, but the great handling from the hydraulic power steering made this little inconvenience gone. The suspension is really comfortable and even on long drives it doesn't give you a backache. The only gripe I have with the car are the aircon controls without a front defrost and adjustment functions, the missing adjustable headrests in the rear seats and having only two airbags. However, for the money you pay, it's an outstanding product and I think it is a great package. To be fair though, the Bezza isn't shit, just that the Bezza does well in other departments where the Saga isn't, such as convenience features like the various hooks, auto up and down driver side window, aircon adjustment, space in general and fuel consumption. All in all I found the Saga a more pleasant car to drive in than the Bezza, but the Bezza is a great dependable car with good levels of comfort too. Sadly I didn't manage to meet you while I was in Malaysia, but I managed to meet Thomas on one Evoclub morning drive. I went driving up in the Axia up on Ulu Yam and it was so much fun. Bezza's strong points are its fuel economy (a combo of dual variable valve timing system + higher compression ratio of 11.5:1), very large rear boot and better resale value. However, its driver's seating position and visibility is not as good as Proton Saga. Plus, Bezza tends to roll much more when maneuvering through bends and speeding down the highway.
@@izzatfauzimustafa6535 can confirm all the points, the seating position was not really suitable for me, but driving on the North South Highway was quite fine from Penang to KL with a little break to fuel up. The steering is also okay going up on Genting, but the Saga surely is much better. The spongy brakes were much more of a problem to me, but you can always upgrade brakes and get custom made rear disc brakes too.
apart from outdated design and after sales issues, Proton are gem of drivivng range cars in lower price point, recently had chance to drive new Iriz the car was so well planted the chassis was so comfortable and feels confidents too, literally similar to the driving experience of yaris, only downside their qc, p.s I have noticed the reverse camera on par with 100k japanese cars
To me, the design still holds up till this day It's just the halogen headlights that makes the car looks outdated a little bit But there's already lots of aftermarket led headlights out there, ofc gotta pick the high quality ones And if there's led for the taillights, that'd be cool too
I was going 120 in lipis -raub road .then this car overtake me. then i follow goes up to 140 on straight. I was like wow Saga look solid on bents and corners above 100.

Bobby, I managed to get a Premium Spec as Premium S has longer waiting period. Handling indeed better than my older Almera and NVH is okay. The thing that I would have to deny is the build quality 😞. Reported it to Jelita Menawan Service Butterworth, hope they can fix it.
Bobby, just sharing. Service centre claim this is standard across all new Saga MC2. As they changed CVT to 4AT. I told them to lodge official complain to HQ as all the time the car in D...it would have loud vibration noise. What a letdown in quality by proton.

My country started selling proton saga, I wanted to ask you one question, is the engine quality good, does the vehicle require a lot of repairs after 100,000 kms?, if it is driven appropriately and not rough?
I used to drive Saga BLM manual. I keep telling people it's one heck of a car, and others don't believe me. So glad they keep the steering, handling and improved on it. Low maintenance drive as well. So sad some moron wrecked it while it is parked nicely. Miles ahead of what perodua is able to re-badge.
HI Bobby, i owned Saga premium 2020 model. issues found which really annoying: 1. headunit always restart 2. aircond cut-off too loud, vibrates whole car 3. brake pedal too deep .. did u experience any of these from Saga 2022? thanks
thank you bobby for this in-depth review. not sure if you remember but i was the one asking about the saga in your last ama. totally sold to get a saga now. only problem is the booking as ive waited almost four months for my order!
Long waiting time is normal now bc of all this chip/part shortage in automotive industry. Especially car with a lot of demand like saga/bezza/myvi etc. I heard bezza also about 4-6 month. Even hrv with less demand need to wait 12 month.
I'm not gonna lie. It is a good stuff. My brother had one exactly like yours. I came from persona elegance and him too. I'm currently drive the new alza due to eev and stuff 😅
my friend was impress when they in my saga.p mc1 at Penang, they say it's not like cheaper car it like segment B car & i say it was Segment A lol. they say Handling so damn good because they not feel like fly or what and i take corner like 80kmh at sharp corner they speechless. btw i try for top speed the car & i notice like have some gear like 3.5 because if you full throttle to go 160kmh it's like the gear at 3 but not, if normal drive 140kmh Gear 4 & rpm at 3.8k something like that & it can keep it up to 160kmh but so slow so i full on floor the paddle but feel like something gear idk how to explain because this 4at, gear s (1,2,3gear) has limit to 110kmh & cannot reach to 120kmh hmm weird tho

To me, the design still holds up till this day
It's just the halogen headlights that makes the car looks outdated a little bit
But there's already lots of aftermarket led headlights out there, ofc gotta pick the high quality ones
And if there's led for the taillights, that'd be cool too
@@randomdude1250 The red accent in the interior make the car cheaper
@@elbowstancenow1519 it does not look cheap to me, but I would prefer it more if the red accents are done in glossy finishings
@@randomdude1250 the new Iriz already come with led headlight
@@truthurts704 I love the Iriz and if my budget could reach the B segment market, I'd definitely go for the Iriz
I was going 120 in lipis -raub road .then this car overtake me. then i follow goes up to 140 on straight. I was like wow Saga look solid on bents and corners above 100.
I was surprised im able to barrel down karak 160-170
@@BobbyAngmalaysia holy crap. Take care Bobby. I still want to continue watching your videos 🤣
agree 💯 . I'm still waiting for my Proton Saga Premium S ... suitable for city drive , long distance drive ..
Loan approved now just waiting for the Silver Premium S to arrive hopefully this month.
I was surprised but delighted to see you test driving a proton as you are more often seen reviewing high-end premium & luxury cars. Keep up the good work!
I bought my saga executive AT because of you! Thank you for the video 😊😊😊..i've received my car 2 weeks ago and im so happy
So surprisingly well built right?
@@BobbyAngmalaysia happily surprised 👍🏻
@@BobbyAngmalaysia Hi Bobby, quick question. I isi minyak penuh mcm 300++km last Sat. Today Wed, minyak dah ke 171km. I check odo and it's averaging 7.5litre/100km. Saga kuat mkn minyak? I also ugrade tyre to Conti 15" from 14" Atlas
@@farah6258 bigger tyres will affect fuel consumption. Yes Saga's engine isn't as efficient as Perodua's Toyota engine, but it's not ridiculously high also. Acceptable I would say. Give and take I guess, handling better.
Aaahhh I missed trashing out my saga going up Genting. That tire noise, those bends… ahhh. And as you said, really at times I also feel like the car is asking me, is that all you got? Lol. Thanks for the video Bobby!
honestly, saga such a beautiful car imagine putting x70 dashboard, engine and put all the features.
its weird when Bobby laugh make you feel even more confident about the car.
Proton (or is it Geely?) has been slowly but surely improving the Saga. I've got the 2018 and 2020 models and to date, no regrets.
More like the company is now "Sendirian Berhad", government won't help anymore,It's either swim or sink. So the shareholders decided they gotta swim harder to compete in Malaysian market.
What to do?
Agreed with the goodnesses. Just hope Proton can change the external design to be like CLA kind of looks. 😜😁
you would be the only one I know to compare a Saga with a Lexus and Merc and I would go "you're right!"
Nothing but positive review. Good job to Proton in up their game, this gives the competitors a little push. Healthy competition in the market.
The car is great...but the aftersales maybe need more improvement.
As an Iriz owner i know what you mean..it absorb road imperfection better than my honda HRV..handling is level above honda..so much fun
Is the Iriz 1st gen 2015 handling good?
@@AmeerQ99 will never find a better handling car for that price. Owns one from 2015. A manual not cvt. I dont think they changed any of the driving dynamics since 2015. Only improving the fit n finish. 2015 glovebox issue from wira still there. Haha. But newer ones no longer has it. So stable at speeds way above highway limits.
@@keataun352 am a proud yr 2015 MT iriz owner myself.... not an ounce of regret buying that car my daily driver
i'm using savvy since 2009..it still can overtake at corner L at the right lane..other car need to change lane to the left because lack of stability of handling..
The 4AT seems to take the uphill climb better than my 2017 CVT model.
Nevertheless didn't expect you to enjoy the saga this much! 😆
Great work Proton for continuous improvement on the saga 👍
Hyundai 4AT is better than punch CVT
Agreed. I own saga 2018, once tried my sister saga 2021 on gerik-jeli. The 4AT perform better than CVT when overtaking & hill climbing.
nice video for a person that was clueless about cars and on their way to own their first car and considering to buy saga. yall should watch this video.
SAGA FL really give me bad bad impression, but current saga really good, price is also reasonable compare to last time i bought 46k!
I love how bobby of kayangan reviews marhaen car. Good job.
Now what this car needs is a 5MT with all the bells and whistle. Yeah i know sales of 5MT is really really bad, but i really hope that it would be an option.
Bobby, I managed to get a Premium Spec as Premium S has longer waiting period. Handling indeed better than my older Almera and NVH is okay. The thing that I would have to deny is the build quality 😞. My car full of rattling sounds ( at traffic lights, while turning and even reversing). Wiper starts wabble when used and most noticeable thing is the power lag and weaknesses during going up slope. Reported it to Jelita Menawan Service Butterworth, hope they can fix it.
They should fix it.
Bobby, just sharing. Service centre claim this is standard across all new Saga MC2. As they changed CVT to 4AT. I told them to lodge official complain to HQ as all the time the car in D...it would have loud vibration noise. What a letdown in quality by proton.
yess its handling is superb... on NS highway 170 doing hairpins like no problem
Very detail review Bobby thumbs up for the great work!!!!
I don't know why but wonder how he can suddenly pull the Saga standard up high.
Geely step in and make quality management over the years.
Look at how Chinese cars have dominated the world in recent years and you'll understand why saga is so good
83k viewers within a week. I think it's time to consider more reviews for this segment of cars to boost your channel

Thanks to Najib for his vision to modernise Proton. 😁
Hi Bobby ,I sold my Alza and bought the new Proton Saga ,yes very comfortable great handling, I got the Standard version,, if I knew you were testing this I would have joined 🤣
D
Hi there, did u get the mt or the at version?
Bobby, love your honest review on the Saga. Wonder how it stacked up vs the King, Myvi?
Thank you so much good sir for this awesome review. Looking forward to getting this car early next year. Been working in Malaysia for 11 years now and this will be my 1st ever car here if fortunate enough. :)
Agree. With Saga corner handling is much much better than its nearest rival, Bezza.
Bro Bobby,i trusr every single word from u man...Saga really really underrated..it takes maybe 10 years for people to realize...
We had 2 Saga's in our family, the 1st is 2017 models with CVT gearbox and the 2nd a 2021 models with 4 AT gearbox and a screen radio. Both handles well and my only complaint for both car are the headlight are not well lit at night.
Just change the bulb to osram nightbreaker. The price is around 70rgt. Should solve your issue..I changed mine in 2019 and so far no sight isssue driving on the dark road.
@@joylabu9593 halogen or LED light?

Bobby, i think you shall get a saga and modify it to the maximum, you can do a series with it 😊
If I'm going to buy this car, the first thing I'll do is to change the wheels to the previous version which got the AMG lookingm
cari CE atw TE tuan... alang2
Sales figures tell..
It is really a nice car for driver and passenger..
Ini barulah kereta rakyat!!!
It's so brilliant I haven't seen one in the US
Proton Ride & Handling never failed you.. It just that the after sales and lack of commitment from top management to really overcome all the problems. Being an owner of so many protons. After like many years, it's time for change. Going to replace ertiga with alza.
A bit better then my 2019 saga because of push start button.so damnn jealouse laa with this new one
i think this car can go up to 700k km , because my friend did 640k km in saga blm 2008 ( one top overhaul, no gearbox repair)
My country started selling proton saga, I wanted to ask you one question, is the engine quality good, does the vehicle require a lot of repairs after 100,000 kms?, if it is driven appropriately and not rough?
It is a better car than before because its CVT transmission has been replaced with Hyundai's 4 speed automatic transmission.
But cannot see the traffic light being the first car at the stop, if you are more than 5'9" 😅
Just bought one.
This video convinced me to buy saga
I used to drive Saga BLM manual. I keep telling people it's one heck of a car, and others don't believe me.
So glad they keep the steering, handling and improved on it.
Low maintenance drive as well.
So sad some moron wrecked it while it is parked nicely.
Miles ahead of what perodua is able to re-badge.
for the price it really show good and sturdy the quality proton give for consumer. they know what people needs.
HI Bobby,
i owned Saga premium 2020 model.
issues found which really annoying:
1. headunit always restart
2. aircond cut-off too loud, vibrates whole car
3. brake pedal too deep
.. did u experience any of these from Saga 2022?
thanks
Happy to see you in an affordable car
Imagine Proton Apply This Ride And Handling To Proton X70 And Proton X50. It Would Be Amazing Drive🤩
Nice pop up screen. Not even new HRV or even corolla cross can give you that. They can only provide you with CRT TV.
thank you bobby for this in-depth review. not sure if you remember but i was the one asking about the saga in your last ama. totally sold to get a saga now. only problem is the booking as ive waited almost four months for my order!
Long waiting time is normal now bc of all this chip/part shortage in automotive industry. Especially car with a lot of demand like saga/bezza/myvi etc. I heard bezza also about 4-6 month. Even hrv with less demand need to wait 12 month.
My office mate...6 month and still waiting for her...bezza...
If it have 1.6L variant. I definitely will buy it.
But that alarm beeps tho, I hope there's a setting to turn it off. Proton should use like buzzer for the beeps instead of that awful horn.
thanks for the review bobby. great to hear thoughts from someone who is more accustomed to reviewing premium cars.
That smile thou. Albeit underpowered, it handle pretty much well. Some fun factor there I see.
Just need to change the ECU and tune it.
Saga tidak mengecewakan..
agreed. its way way better than Bezza Vios City💯✔️
I am still using Proton vehicle since it was first released.
Maybe another purchase next year.
Well done Proton
I'm not gonna lie. It is a good stuff. My brother had one exactly like yours. I came from persona elegance and him too. I'm currently drive the new alza due to eev and stuff 😅
Thx for your review..im so proud as a saga premium owner😂
I just bought a 2011. Runs great. Cant find out too much about the engine, 1.3
my friend was impress when they in my saga.p mc1 at Penang, they say it's not like cheaper car it like segment B car & i say it was Segment A lol. they say Handling so damn good because they not feel like fly or what and i take corner like 80kmh at sharp corner they speechless.
btw i try for top speed the car & i notice like have some gear like 3.5 because if you full throttle to go 160kmh it's like the gear at 3 but not, if normal drive 140kmh Gear 4 & rpm at 3.8k something like that & it can keep it up to 160kmh but so slow so i full on floor the paddle but feel like something gear idk how to explain because this 4at, gear s (1,2,3gear) has limit to 110kmh & cannot reach to 120kmh hmm weird tho
this video makes me wanna get a Saga
Don’t crash the car. Take care of the chassis…. Else, prepare to wait months to repair or for parts
I have tested the new saga.well it surely more quiet than my 2019 persona no CVT noise and the nvh is better too.
Really hoping for proton to make a replacement for satria..there a niche market for 2 doors hatchback car..please hear us out proton
I like this mamat punya review.. he always ketawa2 during presentation.. hahahaha.. i pun ketawa also.. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can't wait to have mine soon, been months waiting!
40k perfect car imho
No need to get city/almera/vios if the value of this is ardy gud
Need something premium I'd just get a compact suv like Wrv or Byd Atto suv later on
The slot below the USB, would be nicer if it has a slight slop down forward.
Feel so shame for my Civic....like a paper puzzle slided in and moving when I press it....This Saga builds very solid💆💆💆👀👀👀
The horn beeps is when you close all the doors with the key fob inside your pocket.
My plan right now:
-convert my iriz 2017 1.3 cvt gearbox to 4AT
If Saga is that good, imagine what Iriz can offer.
perhaps persona also, the interior is really damn nice with a nappa leather on x70 plus its a handling car also.
