    Crazy, the way you express how much you love the country is exactly what I have in mind since I decided to relocate back home in 2018. Getting pay 5 times more not really making me happy tbh. I was told by the elderly since I was little, "study hard, get a good job, work in oversea." That's the classic teaching for most of the 'Chinese Kids', I made it, I've travelled more than 30 countries , relocation, and ? How far we still want to go to 'achieve the success' set by others ? Anyway, too long windy. Hope to join you guys one day.

    Still in love with my old Persona Elegance 2011. From the design to driving pelasure. The only downsize is the fuel consumption which i think the price compensate if compare with other C segment (yes, old persona is C segment). Guten Morgen Bobby! That sentence nailed the video 😁🙌🏻.
    As for the car, I must say that I envy Malaysians for having such an abundant choice of spacious B-segment cars, especially sedans. Heck even a Perodua Bezza and Axia are more spacious than some of the B-segment cars we got here in Europe. Europeans, in particular Germans and Swiss, hate sedans and prefer station wagons and hatchbacks, I don't know why though. On top of that I have the feeling that the cars are quite expensive for what they offer, because here you can still find lots of cars still having manual windows and not even parking sensors, which are not even existant on an Axia E. Yeah I get it, we are required to have ESP, traction control, ABS and 6 airbags as standard, but I have still the feeling that manufacturers cheap out on the car's specs. I wish they would start selling Proton and Perodua again in Europe, but the Euro 6 regulations make it impossible and the surge of plug-in hybrid cars will make such choices unattractive. Most fresh grads get anyway used cars, because new cars are here mostly a corporate thing and a private customer is not willing to buy a brand new car which depreciates anyway like 20 % when leaving the showroom.
    The Proton Persona (and the Iriz) seem to have a great value for money proportion. Yes they have only manual air con, but they got all around parking sensors, reverse camera, LED headlamps, steering wheel control and on top of that USB ports everywhere. They also seem spacious and even huge Europeans would feel comfortable inside such a car. The voice command thingy is a really nice touch, because most of the cars get here very flimsy built in voice command technology and even Google Assistant is not working that great like the GKUI system found in Protons. For the price of around RM 54k, you can't go wrong at all. The rear headrests though are unacceptable. For me they would be a dealbreaker.
    Do you think the Persona is a good car compared to what we get served in Europe? 🤔

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I think it's about consumer mentality. Malaysia is a developing country where GDP per capita is only a mere $10,000 USD. This puts us in the same par with Russia and China while ours is an economy that has stopped growing since 2015 and China is still steaming ahead. However, Malaysia is also a country that is one of the earliest in Asia to begin modernisation of our economy back in the 60s-90s, this meant that we are caught in a "Sophisticated consumer but with low buying power" scenario. Meaning our consumers wants every luxury feature but on aggregate couldn't afford them. This creates psychological effect on consumers that we see owning a car as a pride thing. That's why our cars are all very well equipped and low margin for dealers. Hence they need to be inventive in creating schemes and rebates and incentives for dealers to remain in business. Whereas Europeans don't see cars as a yardstick for pride and success, but sees cars as a purely utilitarian item, and hence you guys buy pragmatically. A lawyer may buy a manual window UNICEF spec polo because all he wants is a small car, in Malaysia that's never the case. A car like the Persona might do well in Malaysia because we want every car to be as spacious as possible while Europeans will immediately find the car being too bulbous and would pick something cuter and more stylish.

      @@BobbyAngmalaysia Yeah I noticed that the consumer behaviour in Malaysia is quite unique compared to many other countries. Even if a car is a huge burden to pay for, it is often a necessity and also a status symbol. I for my part didn't get a new car so far, because I'm a student, but because a car is more of a want thing than need, I tend to shop differently than most other people out there. It is true that people here regard cars more like a tool than as a form of enjoyment. When I buy a car, comfort and practicality are the main factors and then comes material quality and power in the next place. That's why I had as my previous car an Audi A3 from 2011 and now I got a Kia Soul EV from 2015. I agree on the last point that the Persona isn't the nicest looking car out there and that especially the side profile is bloated, but for the purpose of being a family car, it is fine, because the whole packaging is important and not just the looks of the car.

    Totally agree. I am Malaysian but born and am a resident in Singapore most of my life. It is ultra capilatist here. Anything you do, you need to operate at max capacity to survive and to attract that high a volume of business you need to kill off your competitors. Not good at all. The stress of living in Singapore really makes me appreciate the beauty of life in Malaysia and I feel so happy whenever I return to Malaysia. Hope the pandemic ends. I miss Malaysia.

    Hi bro. Thank you for super informative review! I am considering this or a 2nd hand 2.0 inspira. Im not really a heavy footer, but i like pick up for overtaking on highway. Unsure if an inspira is an overkill, considering i only drive like max 140 on PLUS. Would a persona be enough? My old car is a proton waja mmc. I also hate how the cvt on exora bold works.

      the new persona's NVH really is miles ahead of the Inspira. Of course in terms of design i find the Inspira a better proportioned car, that being said, the Persona's shape was largely because of the cavernous boot and interior space. :)

    As a child in the 1970s, even after the May 13, 1969 race riots, we still felt more united and muhibah. It was a common sight than to see malay hawkers in Chinese coffeeshops, with both Chinese and Malay customers for them. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case, although in Kuching, you can see that! The rot set in during the 1980s, especially when the differentiation was not only race but religion too. No wonder 1.8 million Malaysians have emigrated in the last few decades, with almost 1.2 million to Singapore alone, as reported by the Human Resource Minister in March 2023. And with 90% of Chinese studying in Chinese schools, compared to my time in the 1970s, when national schools were so secular and academically superior, no middle class Chinese thought even of going to Chinese schools. Chinese schools were dying a natural death in the 1970s. But the increasingly Malaynised and Islamised national schools from the 1980s onwards threw the Chinese schools a lifeline, and middle class Chinese left the national schools in droves for the Chinese Schools.

    Great handling and comfort is definitely a strong point of Protons, that should be expected. But I don't think the 2022 Iriz/Persona is a value for money purchase for the package you're getting. The drivetrain is one major reason for me.
    It'll make a great used purchase though. (Plus point of going used, you can try find a manual variant, and the manual is a whole lot better than the CVT. You can't get new ones with manual anymore)

    • @silverelgrandlow6298
      @silverelgrandlow6298 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Honestly test driving it says otherwise. The drivetrain has been enhanced and calibrated so much it feels like a different car now.
      Honestly for the price, sacrificing sheer comfort, ergonomics and etc for a Myvi is worse value wise.
      After driving and sitting in this, the Myvi feels really cheap.

      2019 facelifted afterwards persona's cvt are all good, only a slight bit of rubberband effect will exist if u pressing the throttle little harder during early acceleration, but once u get used to it , it is really smooth n comfortable.

    • @ndt2046
      @ndt2046 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This comment has got it upside down. What you want is to buy a new Persona, because the build quality has improved year on year (much less chance of getting some creaky/squeaky action on the dashboard) and the CVT tuning has vastly improved over previous iterations. 2019 was a big jump forward, 2022 is the best one yet. People are still coloured by their 2016/17 perceptions of Iriz and Persona. Test drive first then only talk (I've driven all of them).

      In terms of handling, not really different, vios has better stability but persona has good steering feel, comfort- vios better

      Still the same Punch unit.
      Just updated TCU and tuning. Which should mean it drives better, but I doubt that translates to better reliability.
