The awesome scene in the season 3 finale of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Hive reveals his true form to Coulson in their epic standoff in this awesome scene.
"Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope." I know that he is a badass and could kill a person with one hand (pun absolutely intended), but he is also such a geek and you got to love that.
It was a wise move to hold off on the reveal of Hive's face until the season finale, so they could spend as much time and money on it as they needed to make it look so good. Absolutely fantastic CGI by TV standards, so realistic and detailed.
The detail of this shit is amazing. You don't usually see this quality on air shows. Also, anyone else just loves that moment when Hive gets pissed at 2:35 ?. The look on his face, the subtle growl, his tentacles getting tense, it's priceless lol.
Mark Kolpack and his VFX team always do amazing work; especially considering that it is on a TV show budget. Hive and Ghost Rider should have earned them Emmy awards.

I actually like this version of Hive a lot better than the comics version. Not only is it cool looking and intimidating as played by Brett Dalton; looking at what it did to Maveth as well as the characters stating that bible stories about the devil were actually about this guy. And that being the case it makes the MCU Hydra much creepier, not just militant fanatics, but an actual satan worshipping cult existing through the millennia. Kudos to the MCU writers.
This reminds me a lot of H.P. Lovecraft's work too. How deities worshipped by cults are just aliens from space that came to Earth and laid dormant and required sacrifices. Cosmic horror as it's called. Even Hive's tentacles call back to Cthulu.
Huge fan of Lovecraft myself, was recently lucky enough to find a copy of The Complete Fiction (all his works in one place) for only $20. I'm also very curious as to how a confrontation between this Hive and the Avengers would play out.

I think the funniest part about this scene is that since Hive's last two hosts would have almost certainly seen Star Wars (I mean Will was an astronaut for fuck's sake) so the 1000 year old super powered undead monster with a god complex actually gets the reference so truly understands how much Coulson is taking the piss.

Agent "Hive" Ward was probably one of, if not the best characters on the show. From betraying shield to fighting them, then becoming a parasitic alien sentient leader. LoL
The MCU is so multi layered yet woven delicately enough as to keep us in the dark until they pull on that thread. I believe the MCU to be a cinematic achievement on the scale of Star Wars and perhaps even beyond it. They make you care about every character. They have depth and texture.

The more time they spend the better, as they use ABC/Disney effects teams, and this is what they used for Ghost Rider, hence why his CGI wasn't as shiny as this one. However, for this scene they used a joint effort of ABC/Disney and a private effects team. ABC added all the character movements and features, then the private effects team coloured it, made it look realistic, and then polished it up. They actually had a month to spend doing it, and for the short amount of time it actually wasn't too expensive. However, if it was a week, or they had to do it for an entire episode, with this level of detail it would be VERY expensive.
"AoS has an unlimited budget" There's no way any TV show has an 'unlimited budget' for anything. I don't care what fanboy material you've read, that's not happening, esp. for a show with a less-than-stellar viewership like _AoS_. The reason we see so little of characters like Hive's true form and GR's true form is a limited TV budget. That, and that alone.
Clark Gregg should get much bigger roles ... the way he portrays characters, especially Coulson of course, is just plain awesome. He knows when to hit the comical note in serious situations.
This actually reminds me of the scene in "The Avengers" where Loki tries to control Tony with the scepter but fails due to the arc reactor in Tony's chest. Even their conversation is fairly similar. It's actually kind of fitting since a huge driving force for the Avengers was getting justice for Coulson's death.

I like that this whole ordeal with Hive has actually made Coulson sorry for killing Ward. His sin came back to haunt him in the most literal way possible, almost like the universe was trying to tell him everything he'd done wrong
It even gets more depth when in the framwork he realized that had it not been for Garrat or had he or someone else gotten to ward Sooner or said the right thing. Ward would have turned to the hero's side, heck, he would have done so had they given him the chance in their basement... but fear prevented that. Well, fear plus a lack of therapy for Ward.
I really hope with how cool they did hive in the show, marvel brings him back in the comic books as an enemy of the inhumans. he could be in the new inhuman series coming out later this year. I love to see hive interacting with other inhumans in the comics like black bolt or maximus.
Tbh in hindsight I think Hive probably should have been the final season villain given the fact that hes one of the very first inhuman created by the kree and meant to command all inhumans. Humans and inhumans had to work together to banish him to Maveth, he's a millennium+ old inhuman that Hydra was originally founded on, and lastly cuz Brett Dalton played as him. That way Bretts would be there for the begin and the end of AoS even if he isn't playing as Ward anymore. PS. Hes also the best villain in the series imo

AND they completely forget about their guns in the finale and forget how to fight because they get beaten up by untrained citizens despite them being skilled enough to fight team arrow. AND hive is basically the hydra of dc. what a joke and a letdown indeed

I get such a lovecraftian vibe everytime I see this clip. Alveus aka Hive the ancient inhuman Hydra god, striving to enslave the human race and looking to bring about his world order! And commands such a scary, anymous and otherworldly presence, even in human form!
What really makes it is how he *genuinely* believes what he's doing is a good thing and actually takes pity on humanity as a result like a true proper cosmic horror.

yeah I NEVER understood when people said this show had bad CGI. Pretty much EVERY CGI object in the show looks amazing. There are a couple of cheaper ones here in there but mostly it looks incredibly for a TV show. Season 6 raised that bar even higher, it had super realistic giant planets and spaceships.
@Greg Elchert yet it still had a lot of light shining over it, the tentacles look flawless and pretty much life-like. But you're right about them knowing when to use CGI. They could have used Hive face several times in the season and the budget would be spread too thin and it would look cheap, but they used it only once in this season which allowed them to make it look awesome.

Betting 90% of the animation budget for this season went to animating Hives head. Totally worth it.

This show was amazing. I was very skeptical at first but I gave it a chance. Once they stepped of the MCU timeline, it got so gooood!

I get such a lovecraftian vibe everytime I see this clip. Alveus aka Hive the ancient inhuman Hydra god, striving to enslave the human race and looking to bring about his world order! And commands such a scary, anymous and otherworldly presence, even in human form!
What really makes it is how he *genuinely* believes what he's doing is a good thing and actually takes pity on humanity as a result like a true proper cosmic horror.

+ramdelure fair enough I mean in all honesty regardless of how handsome Grant Ward is/was, it's greatly downplayed by the fact that he's a traitor and a murderering psychopath. call me crazy but I would think that for most ladies that would be a complete turn-off just saying where as with hives true face, you know what you're getting you know who is so it's easier to bear because Hive has no real emotional connection to the protagonist except for the fact that he chose and his host body

People saying this show kinda looks low budget. But that cgi looks badass
yeah I NEVER understood when people said this show had bad CGI. Pretty much EVERY CGI object in the show looks amazing. There are a couple of cheaper ones here in there but mostly it looks incredibly for a TV show. Season 6 raised that bar even higher, it had super realistic giant planets and spaceships.
@Greg Elchert yet it still had a lot of light shining over it, the tentacles look flawless and pretty much life-like.
But you're right about them knowing when to use CGI. They could have used Hive face several times in the season and the budget would be spread too thin and it would look cheap, but they used it only once in this season which allowed them to make it look awesome.

Morgoth The Real MVP you're joking right?? Their CGI is obviously CGI and it's barely above Scorpion King level. Sometimes they even forget to texture it and it's just a plain grey model.
