I like the modulation of trp brakes. I find the shimano brake lever feels like an on/off switch where the lever just hits a wall and you only have a millimeter of modulation. With my trp G-spec brakes the braking force is very linear and easy to modulate. I look forward to trying the dhr evo.

The more I seach the more it looks like TRP DHR EVO is the choice. Nice that they have the bigger rotors as well. And all this 3 years ago. Really need that power for an ebike.

Park Tools are happy to make a new Break Rotor Bender tool that is slightly wider :)

Love the stopping grid idea.. does this imply that you guys have also been doing similar side by side test comparisons on other brakes as well.. say, Hayes Dominion A4, Shimano XTR, Sram Code RSC, Hope E4, Maxima, Magura ? Keep up the great work and vids!

Thanks guys for your content, just picked my e-bike this year based on what I learned from your videos. But please lower the music volume, it made this video VERY hard to watch for me. I love those songs but the voice / music ratio makes it hard to focus on what's being said especially at the beginning of the video (hard rock / metal). Cheers!

I'm pretty much fed up with the Code R's on my YT Decoy. I added Magura 220 Estop rotors and it made a big improvement, but I still find the brakes fading at the bottom of long descents. I may check these out.

Look, I am the furthest thing from a fan boy. Had code RSC on my stumpy Evo, hated them, listened to the internet and got magura.... big improvement, but noticed what you have. My LBS recommended TRP Dh-r 2.3 and they make the maguras feel like dried out rim brakes... do it and don't look back. Get the new 2.3 rotors, too. I can't even tell you the last time I experienced brake fade. Already ordered these "Evo" brakes for my new Enduro. Can't wait.

Thank you for the review. Just as a note, when every review of an MTB product is glowing, it makes it really hard to make informed decisions. The proprietary brake oil for these brakes is a bummer. The new rotor size is a bummer. These brakes sound like they're great for e-MTB downhill racers who currently fry brakes, rotors and pads and don't have enough stopping power, but that's like 0.5% of your readership, in my opinion. I love your content, but I would also love to see a bit more critical thinking go into these reviews. I personally have stopped following some MTB content channels because they only ever were super stoked on whatever thing they were looking at. I get it. We are all stoked to ride. It is refreshing, however, to hear real, critical analysis, and it will keep your followers loyal, IMO.

      Hello Dave,
Thanks very much for writing in and glad to hear you are a fan. We will do better at clarifying that these "Dissected" series videos and stories are not reviews or endorsements of products, but are more of a detailed first look at a product where we work with brands to showcase the features, technology and claimed benefits of the new products. In our detailed review, which we will publish after we have more than a couple weeks on the product, we'll really get into the critiques, issues and performance evaluations. If you look through our reviews on the website, you'll see we do in fact have products that we don't love or recommend, but perhaps we don't always get the chance to make videos about them, so we appreciate the suggestion there.
Lastly, thanks for the feedback on the new rotor size and oil spec. TRP does offer standard sized rotors, so having the option to run a larger rotor is most definitely not a bummer in our opinion. Only a benefit. And we actually think a larger rotor would help beginner riders from experiencing brake fade or scorched rotors because of the improved heat management offered by the oil and larger/thicker rotors. BUT, we do appreciate you making us think... As lifers in this game, we often overlook stuff we take for granted.
      Thanks again

Should I get these in Gold or should I get MT7s? I weigh 85kg and ride hard and I know the maguras have crazy stopping power but these will look amazing with my deity copper cockpit and is there really a massive difference between the two?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

  • @havenoutdoors584

Might need to get these to replace my MT7's. Unless anyone knows of a thinner, stiffer hose I can use that will work with my Maguras? The hoses seem soft.

Thanks for the review. Having trouble finding more info on the following: Not much said about the Hayes Dominion A4, love to hear why I would NOT want them. Tired of just hearing positive reviews of some random flavor of the week brake review because somebody is just really excited and in love with how they look.
Pretty sure Maguras are out/crap levers, TRP/Hayes seems to be a Ford/Chevy deal. Just really need good "yeah I ride and hear is the no bullshit truth" about both TRP and Hayes as those are what I am looking for. Not interested in how they "modulate", don't care if they are "on or off". Had everything else, had XT's etc, so I don't need a lesson about brakes, no need for nuance.
What I want to know is can I use one finger on the lever, will they fade on a long DH and require a 2 finger death grip, and will I hate them from the arm pump that seems to be the Sram Code RSC calling card.
Not meant to piss anyone off, just tired of the vanilla generic regurgitated same buzzword descriptions that tell me nothing except that you know how to use "brake words"....ok....so some of you will be pissed off but I bet you are all wondering the same thing to I took one for the team.
This will be for a 48lb eMTB, not Amish bike so weight is the big problem. Be honest, no touchy feely words, I don't care how they look, I care how well they work so please BRING IT.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@rterry2752 Don't think you do get it. Put some 2 piston brakes with 140mm rotors under a 180lb guy in Squamish BC, or a 140lb rider hauling ass on a 50lb ebike and tell us how that works out. The point is, that there are very real demand differences in equipment, not only because of the weight difference, but because of the sheer amount of mileage and vertical feet covered on ebikes which accelerates wear and tear on equipment. Can a standard Fox or Rock Shox 34mm fork get put on an ebike, yep. Sure can, just like they could under a Clydesdale class enduro racer. However, that fork is going to develop a whole lot of seal wear and play much quicker than a 140lb XC rider in Ohio.
People seem to forgot just because their local terrain may not demand something, doesn't mean other levels of riders in other terrains won't reap the benefits.
Stay tuned though, our next review is a MTB helmet with built-in tinfoil resistant to marketing rays!
