TRP is taking the industry by force! I've been running a set of their DH-R's (Not the evo) and LOVE them! Bleed them once when I installed them and havent needed to since. The DH-R's come with theier sintered metalic pads (evo comes with the 'preformance resin pad) and they did take longer bedding in than other brakes i've had in the past but once you get them good they are truly epic. Nice to never have to worry about brake fade!
I have recently purchased these brakes and after using SRAM and Shimano I will will never go back. Love these brakes. Would like to try the Trail brakes on my other bike.
I have the gold limited edition dh-r evo brakes. Waited 3 months for them and I almost canceled my order but really glad I didn’t. Worth the wait and they look and feel amazing!! Can’t wait for summer for the lift access parks to open so that I can push them to they’re full potential. Definitely a pair of brakes I’ll be keeping on hand for a long time!
@@Error-hc7mp I never never experienced the see brakes. I originally had the Sram guide t’s 4 piston brakes and compared to my TRP brakes it’s a night and day difference. Much more constant power and modulation with the trp brakes
These brakes blow away anything SRAM makes, no questions. I would never run Sram again. The rotors are built for performance! I do miss the snappy feel from XTR's but the modulation is super wonderful, gobs of power and I've never faded them either. Being a guy at 215lbs, its a huge benefit for me.
Man, you should really try the Braking Incas with the new 3mm rear rotor... those 120+ championships in Moto experience really do payoff.. best brakes i have ever tried!
I cant find any 3mm rotor from then only downhill and e bike rotor 1.9mm thick, what 3mm???? Maguras mdpr 2mm or this trp 2.3mm cant decide what to get magura look like motorcyle its for my ebike
Aloha Bruddah In Hawaii we get loose and both wet and dry conditions I have DHRII on my bike now and they work but do you have a suggestion on E bike tires that may be better for me Respect
I find the magura mt7 1 finger levers and 4 pot calipers more ergonomic lighter and more power but than Dominion are still nice and powerful. I like the chunky levers running on a smooth bearing even if to chunky and heavy. Don't think magura use lever bearings. Definitely second to magura at the moment on power and weight.
TRP brakes feel great, but they are loud! Changes rotors, pads etc...continued making noises that ruined rides. Tried to warranty and they didn’t help one bit. Customer service absolutely sucks. And no, the brakes were not contaminated.
Both are good brakes but i think Magura's levers are a little weird feeling in my opinion... and can have a spongier feel, yes bleeding can fix it, but i've ridden both, like both, but would pick TRP DHR

Similar modulation with more bite, and less fade. I have not bled mine in 6 months and have gone through 3 sets of pads. There is a reason I have a set sitting in my garage for my next bike ;) - Cole
Do brake manufacturers regardless whether SRAM, Shimano, Magura, TRP etc. recommend a specific disc rotor to go with their brakes. Are there any difference in performance among brake rotors? Did TRP recommend a specific disc and size for these brakes?
You would need to use TRP rotors as they are significantly thicker. A Shimano or SRAM rotor is only 1.8mm to start with. Magura rotors are 2mm to start. But these calipers are designed around a 2.3mm rotor.
Ian took the words right out of my brain! You can run other brands if you really wanted to but there would be a noticeable performance loss with heat dissipation.
@@TheLoamWolf @Ian Barner, Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm currently building a parts list for a custom bike build and a bit budget conscious. My question was more on compatibility and related effect on performance. As you know there are only a few 'proper' brake manufacturers (as listed) but there are a lot more disc rotor manufacturers out there as rotors are more 'generic' since they are relatively easier to manufacture. One can find a cheap brake disc that is comparable to a high end name brand one but then the issue would be will one sacrifice a significant amount of performance?
Not objectiv enough in my opinion. 30.000feet is nothing for a brake. I ordered the TRP with ABS now for my. I trust this brakes with my life too., but the brake have a few issues. For example bubbles behind the piston is 1 of them where you have to pay extra attention. Tq Peter
Thanks for checking in on this video! While I (Cole) agree that 30k is not much for a perfect long-term test they did work amazingly. I have actually had now 2 other sets on different bikes. This brake set is actually still on the bike which I gave to my friend, no issues other than pads and a bleed! I have had some issues with another set that required a new piston on the lever but that's about it, and that was after 300k'ish of decent on that set.
Are we serious? Or TRP? They are so serious they did in fact work with a lab and scientists to have their own mix that changes boiling temp compared to other mineral oil brakes. Not sure where the confusion lies? Did that help clarify?
What wouldn’t you believe? Royal blood, baby oil (also mineral oil), and Shimano mineral oil are not the same. Just like DOT fluid, there are differences between them. Motul race fluid is it the same as the cheap stuff you motorcycle comes with OEM. 🤷🏻♂️
@@ka81alex they change de additives to make the boiling point higher than just regular mineral oil (boiling point around 200c). Some mineral oils go up to 230c, while DOT 5.1 goes to at least 260c before boiling. They dont make it "oiler"...

I have trp slate 4s and they're sick. Been looking at these as an upgrade in the future though
I went the Gold way and not looking back!
I Gotta ask, how do these breaks compare to their competition (code RSC and Shimano XT, four-pot breaks) in terms of power and longevity on descents.

Yooo I agree with this.
Great review . Could you use Shimano mineral oil ?
How do the hayes dominion stack up against the TRP? Currently trying to decide between the two.

Those are both awesome brakes. Budget could be a determining factor, but we love these brakes. So, maybe these with smaller rotors.

I remember reading somewhere that you had to send a brake back to TRP for warranty issues. What was the issue you had? Thanks.

Which one would you choose between these and MT7s?
These
I think you should have showed what you were talking about, like the shifter thing.

How do these compare to the Hayes Dominion A4 you guys previously reviewed?
Could be a bit of personal preference but our crew all pick these.
You made it sound as though Shimano/Sram 1.8mm rotors will work with these brakes. Can you confirm? Cheers.
yes
How do they compare with the quadiem? Are the intended for the same use?
These are much more powerful as a whole. We reviewed the Quadiem on our site and you can read about how we felt there. We’d much rather have these.
Is there a reason to mount that Butcher in the front the wrong way around?
