Very thorough presentation that helped me understand the use and navigation of my brand new device. I agree that not having the google play enabled out of the box was a huge inconvenience.
Having used the poke 5 for more than a month now. For me, there are just only ONE fatal con: the warm backlight is kinda terrible. Other than that, I don't have anything to complain. The addition of the magnetic cover is the reason I love this device so much more than the older gens.
I am considering buying it. Other than warmlight is there any other cons to consider ? How is the battery behave, how long it last ? Is software slugish or fast ?
SD Card slot at a more affordable price. Nice! I love the magnetic cover as well. Also love that they've optimized the device further by removing unneeded features such as the volume buttons and audio. I could definitely see this being a compelling competitor to amazon's kindle if they keep the direction they're going at while at the same time bringing the price down a bit.
I bought the Poke 2 on Voja's recommendation and am very happy with it. The size is such that it fits neatly into the pocket on my lumberjack shirt and is with me at all times when I am out and about. Perfect when on the bus, train, waiting room, etc.
basically the same as my poke 3 then, Boox launches so many products but they're all just slight variations, at this rate poke 10 might bring something worth buying it for
Hi, can I access Google Drive and read Google Docs documents? Can I access newspaper websites and read them normally? I have a Kindle 10 PW that I would like to be able to read research articles from the web on, but I can't.
Hi Voja! I'm lucky owner of Poke 2 and its great! I have feelings that Onyx sometimes make things worse than earlier. Poke 3, 4 Lite and 5 are worse than Poke 2 in some specifications etc.
@MyDeepGuide Thanks for the quick response. I "discovered" your reviews while shopping for an Ereader. Have to get an Android since I read bilingual and Libbey as well is a requirement. Well done. Very nice reviews. Can you please elaborate a bit, why you recommend the leaf? As it looks like they both run the same hardware and you mentioned both are slow. Also please recommend which leaf - the white or the black? The Poke 5 and Leaf 2 now cost the same where I live
I don't recommend the Leaf. I said that I recommend the Page, and please check my Page In-depth Review video to see why. It also actually reviews the Poke 5, and you'll see why I recommend against it.
Sorry to bother you again, but I'm on a budget and the Page is significantly more expensive here. For the purpose of serving as an e-reader, not a tablet, which would you recommend between the Poke 5 and the Leaf 2? If it's the Leaf 2 - Black or White version?
I received mine about a week or so ago. Being an Apple user and coming from a Kindle Paperwhite, I’m not sold just yet. Lol. The Android system always has so many extra “clicks” to get somewhere. Lol. I have had a couple glitches when page turning where it double layers the page and freezes. Still wondering if there’s a different option I’d like better. Haven’t decided yet.
It's not, but Poke 5 design is both simple and boring. They are not one and the same. For example, Light Phone II design is super simple, but definitely not boring.
Thanks for this review. So it has pluses and minuses. Big disappointment about the lack of auto-rotate. Less so for Android 11 since it’s just an e-reader? The hassle of activating Google Play I can live with since it’s a small one-off issue. The micro-SD option is great though query, on a 6” -reader (only) device already carrying 32 GB (so 23 or so free GB) of storage, how much you’re really going to need much extra expanded storage? Great formatting in landscape mode too. And then there’s the price. As a 6” device it must be up against the basic Kindle which outside of Prime Day sales, etc, sells for £89. Only 16 GB storage - but that may be enough for most people for a 6” device? - and of course no other e-reading apps so for those who swap between Scribd and BorrowBox or Libby, etc. that’s not good. However, if you are happy being restricted to kindle books, you may, like me, prefer reading kindle books on a Kindle device rather than in the Android app. Amazon own up to the basic Kindle just having four LEDs - not sure Boox disclose how many the Poke 5 has? And yes, what an underwhelming and disappointing design for a 5th iteration. I suspect this is another niche Boox product owing to its price. For most people, the basic Kindle would be a better choice.
Well I don't think it's a niche product. For those who live only in the Kindle ecosystem, a Kindle device will always make more sense and will serve them better. But for others, who want flexibility, and in a very portable format, well, this little one has a lot to offer.
or PB verse pro? but if same size screen then maybe poke 5 is more interesting... 6 inch kinda looks ok (if not pdf) but i cant decide what should beter work for me from that 3 models
I couldn't find Boox's official announcement but some people claim they recently released a Carta 1300 version somewhere in the Asian market. I doubt it because I'm sure Boox would slap a new name on it, every time they add a new tiny feature they (re)release the device with a brand new name like "Poke6" or "Poke5 plus", possible names if this was the case.
@@user-ro5cn8ih5o Yeah I read of someone in Vietnam claiming he got one with the new Carta screen, then someone saying they might release the new version in the US market this year but so far no news from Boox themselves, at least on their official international website. So we will have to wait. However I think the Palma is their most attractive option right now when it comes to portable e-readers... you should check that one if portability is your cup of tea :)

what's the issue with the warm light - is it uneven or?
How was poke 2
I had and still have the BOOX CARTA 2 ! The precursor to POKE 1 !
Does it play apps like TH-cam, Facebook, Messenger?

Looking forward to receiving mine today! 🎉
I am switching from a Kindle Paperwhite because of needing pdf and ePub docs capability.
Thank you!
How is your poke 5 right now? How is your experience with ot after 9months? Thank you for your reply. :)

i got my Poke 5 last week and i feel its quicker and nicer than the Poke 3 SE i had before. great impressions!
I actually like the new design better. Flashy design don't age well in general. I've been waiting for the update but I was hoping it to be snappier.
Poke 2 designe aged very, very nicely :)
basically the same as my poke 3 then, Boox launches so many products but they're all just slight variations, at this rate poke 10 might bring something worth buying it for
What is the max sd card size you can put in the Poke 5? I cannot find this info anywhere, thanks! Is it in fact 2tb or less?
What is the backup ? I skimmed through the review multiple times and I don’t see the numbers.
Oh I love the tee-shirt !! Where did you get it, I want to get one ? Thank you for the video, awesome as always :)
Thanks! It's the local store chain here in Norway called Dressmann :)

I want a device that dont emit light in dark room. Any led light is destructve, even the smallest
Can i turn off the light completely for not having any light at all?
Poke 5 has a microphone but no external speakers.
CCP listening 🎧
It also has Bluetooth for headphones, earbuds or speakers, as well as other peripherals...
Hi. Which do you recommend the poke 5 or the leaf 2?
I'd recommend the Page actually.

Leaf 2, and I have only tried the black version, so I can't comment in the white one.

Since when is simplicity boring?

@@MyDeepGuide I think it's pretty neat. I want it to read books, not flash it in front of friends. I appreciate your feedback.
Flashing anything in front of anyone isn't an appropriate type of social behavior :D
Can it run wattpad app and comics?
Anything on the Play Store.
How do I transfer my files from China server to us server

I wonder what will be bore interesting- this device or pocketbook 740 pro (7.8 inch screen may be more interesting for pdf? but PB isnt new at all)

Does anyone know if it allows Bluetooth keyboard?
Yes, it does.
@@MyDeepGuide thank you!!
Whath about ghost images?
You should either use a proton blaster or call a professional ghost buster to deal with it.

Thanks mate
After searching, it's the Chinese version

Whats the notch on the bottom left side?
I find the device performs poorly.
Looks as slow as my 2018 boox carta 2
Hey you look like the finnish comedian
You mean Timo Soini?
First one. :)
