Im interested in the Boox PAGE. I heard that the minimum level of brightness is still quite bright on Boox. For example I use my Kobo Clara in bed in darkness, so I have the warm light at 8%. 10% is becoming too bright for that situation. So for me getting precise low level light is important. Are you able to comment about that? It looks like the slider might be difficult to change 1% 2% 3% etc
Can't wait for the indepth review of Palma with performance tests and would love to see Page vs Palma to see how they perform side by side since they're the newest devices even if one is more of a mobile device.
With the Boox Page, I have the Leaf 2 white and I actually really like the front buttons placed close together, makes it easy to slide your thumb between them and you can feel the ridge that separates them. The Page seems awesome. The buttons are super nice for a dedicated yet portable reader, then my 110gram Inkpalm5 (also with nice physical volume buttons for page-turning) is for true pocket-portability that just makes the middle-ground Poke 5 (and 170 gram Boox Palma) an unnecessary size for me.
This was an amazing review, all the details I need to make an informed decision. I really respect reviewers who really spend time with the product to give an in-depth usage analysis. Thank you for your time!
Thanks, I was hoping for this review! I plan on buying a Page soon. BTW, I have Kindle page-turn animations turned off in my Tab Ultra C. Within the Kindle app, open a book. Open the "Aa" menu (the one that lets you change the font settings). Select More and then toggle off Page Turn Animations.
Thanks for this detailed review. Eventough you preferred the page I still went with the Poke 5 and I don't regret at all Here are the reasons: - Backlight: who needs a bright backlight on a eraeder?!? I prefer the light as dark as possible to read at night. And on the lowest level it's really dark, love it. - the turn buttons of the page are useless with Onleihe since the app doesn't have the future to turn pages with volume buttons. - It's smaller and lighter And overall I can say ir's really fast and battery more than sufficient. I got the reader with 72% battery. Installed Google Play, Onleihe and read for 3 hours and it's still at 53% Hope this helps others in their decision
Voja, thank you very much for another great video 👍. I've been using my Poke 3 every day for 2 ½ years, love it dearly and hope that it will last for a very, very long time. The Poke 5 is a stark step down from Poke 3 and 2 and I don't understand how this happened. Despite the large font, I prefer to read with a small, light 6-inch notebook (I stretched an elastic band with Velcro as a hand strap around the lid of the old adhesive cover you showed, which works brilliantly. The sewn cover is still in perfect condition for me). I really hope that Boox doesn't leave 6 inch lovers out in the cold.
Quite an old video but still very helpful! I was torn between the Page and the new Go 6 and this video and your new one on the Go 6 helped me decide. Just ordered a Page and can’t wait!
Hey, for anyone concerned about those page turning animations: they only existe when you swipe to turn pages. If you click the side buttons no animation is triggered
Thanks for the comparisons. Over a month ago, I had a brain fart while flying and left my Poke3 on the plane. Dumb, I know. Loved the device too. My only "complaint" was the holding area, like you mentioned. Your video is definitely making me consider the Page.
Thanks for the video. What about the Page compared to Meebook M7? which is better in your opinion? I know that it's 6.8 " and quad-core not octa-core but it supports sd card (which is the main thing I'm looking for) and same price as poke 5 (could be less on Aliexpress) do you recommend Meebook (previously Boyue) in general
how is the screen and reading experience between boox page and kobo libra 2? If I only focus on reading epub and reading quality which one should I get?
Help! lol. I have looked at a gazillion videos and more confused than ever. I am a musician and looking for the best e-reader to read and organize my PDF's for live playing. I've had a Surface Pro 7 and screen is just too small for my aging eyes. I use Drawboard for PDF manipulation and organizing, which is ok. Simpler would be better. E-Readers are just so much easier to read, but the ones I've seen are small and not sure about PDF organizing (Setlists, master files, etc...) What would you recommend?
I returned a poke 5 that I bought to replace my leaf 1. Leaf feels much better, same weight but with larger screen and thinner body and greater screen estate.
Hey thanks for the detailled comparison . The official boox site indicate that the weight of the boox page is 195 grams .. i read that sometimes they don’t indicate the right specifications .. so is that the real weight of the device ?
Well you already have that data. Watch the Battery chapter on Page, Nova Air 1 (battery life is the same as 2), and Tab Mini C and compare them yourself :)
@@MyDeepGuide , oh it would be great to make a deep comprising between nova air 2 vs page like this video, because they are so similar and different devices at the same time )
is the back of the poke5 slightly curved? mine is and i'm wondering if that's the design or a got a defective device, possilbly with a bloated battery.
Got my second kindle oasis in the last years... and again. After a troubling screen, the second unit is loosing 20% charge without doing anything for 5h. I think I'm switching to the Boot page :( And 2-5% for 30minutes of Reading in airplane mode + no light is ridiculous, right? :(
The web browser on my Supernote is terrible, so I purchased a basic Kindle only to discover that it's probably the only other e-ink device out their that has a web browser worse than Supernote's... obviously I should've thought it through. I only need to google scripture references while working with my Supernote and was considering the Poke 5 but now I'm not so sure, I'm certainly not planning on spending much to gain that functionality but need something other than my current iPad Mini whose screen burns my eyes out first thing in the morning.
@@MyDeepGuide It looks like Boox is my best option, but currently the Poke 5 is sold and having seen the terrible front-light in your video... I'm not really sure it would be a wise purchase while the rest are not cheap. I think I'll take my time and do some bidding on eBay... maybe I'll get lucky.
I just love my Poke 3 and absolutely detest the Leaf 2. So I bought the Poke 5. Just got it. Preferred the Poke 3 case. Honestly can't see the difference between the Poke 3 and the Poke 5. But thankfully, despite having similar internals to the Leaf 2, it's not sluggish in the least. The only problem I have had with it so far is that unlike the Poke 3 and every review of Poke 5, including yours, I don't have separate cold and warm sliders for the frontlight. Instead I have a brightness and some weird color adjustment. It's pretty bad. No idea how to get the separate sliders. I don't see any way to do that. Edit: Heard back from Boox. This is something they did in firmware 3.3.2. IMO it's a definite regression. It's a significantly worse implementation. I was going to give my Poke 3 to my sister and keep the Poke 5. I'm going to hold on to my Poke 3. I just discovered that I got navigation buttons in some firmware!!! There is literally nothing in the Poke 5 that is an improvement. Now if you don't have the Poke 3, then the Poke 5 is easily the best book e-reader to get. I totally disagree with this review about the ergonomics. I think one of the best things about this reader is the 6" size. I can put that in my Jeans pocket which I can't do with the Leaf 2 or the Page. I also disagree about the benefit of the larger bezel in holding the Page/Leaf 2. It's much easier to hold the Poke 3/5 in one hand, very similarly to how you hold your phone. It's incredibly light. The Leaf 2/Page is a much more awkward device to hold in one hand. I read novels. Never read Manga or PDFs. They are both terrible in reflows on resizing the fonts. And the bigger Leaf2/Page does nothing to fix that. For PDFs, I have no choice but to use my Galaxy tab for optimal reading. And I don't particularly like reading on the tablet.
@@JJWW-x9h yes. I'm sure the 10.3" is a good size for PDFs. For me it's too big to read novels. Which is my primary reading. But if PDFs are the main reading sources, IMO, the Page 2 (size) is not good enough.
I was going to to replace my Poke 5 with Page because people say it is better to hold in hands. But after your comment, I am convinced that Poke 5 is better. I value more the fact that I can put it to the jeans and read everywhere.
Yes I'm sure a 10" reader would be good at PDFs. But it's too big for reading novels. I don't really like my Samsung tablet. It's too heavy for me. And I never carry it out of the house. But for reading my photography books which are mostly PDFs, it's perfect. While an e-ink tablet would work ergonomically, it doesn't for photos.
How is the battery life of the Page in the real life use? Your input is much appreciated. I am planning to buy a 7-inch ereader, and battery life is crucial.
6 inches Poke 5 would be perfect but it is really too slow ! CPU must absolutely be boosted. At this time you have to wait 3 minutes to access to your text !!!
All Boox products phone home to China and the company processes data in accordance with Chinese law. The fact that you consistently fail to note this is disconcerting.
No they don't, and you really should inform yourself more thoroughly before you go on with public accusations of such sort. Your data is sent via the ksync process, only if you are logged in and using the Boox account. This is normal, as you choose to use their cloud services, and the device needs to communicate with the cloud server for synchronization purposes, as that is what you instructed it to do. The same thing happens if you choose to use Google Drive as your cloud sync option, except then your data is sent to Google, or to Microsoft, if you choose the OneDrive sync option. That is how cloud synchronization works. If you are not logged into any service, nothing is being sent anywhere.
