Amel you are a legend mate. A true scholar mashallah. Thank you for giving us your time this Ramadan. CMC really providing us with gems. Knowledge such as this would cost £100s if you were to attend private courses and yet the CMC putting it all up for free. Donate people! and support this cause so next year they can do it again. I know where my Ramadan donations are going this year. I'm not affialted with the college btw. I'm just a random bloke from South London who's loving these lectures. Thank you so much.

Thank you for a most stimulating and riveting lecture. I have shared this video with family and friends in case any children are interested to take up Astronomy. I found this presentation a totally wonderful and interesting lecture on the marvels of Allah’s creation in the sky. Thank you very much.

Living in big cities we quite often forget that there are stars and planets out there in the heavens. Thank you so much for what you are doing CMC.

I just stumbled upon this video. What an amazing presentation. Dr Amel’s explains such a complex phenomenon in such a clear and simple way. I had been searching life long for this kind of lecture. He is Mashsllah brilliant and humble. His slides are very effective. Thank you so much!

This was excellent video and its fantastic that CMC cover topics like astronomy which will help with pondering over the Quranic verse shown in the video " Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.". I am extremely happy information like this is being shared & hopefully cosmology will also be covered. Lastly is there a simple textbook that compliments the video which the speaker would recommend. May CMC continue doing the excellent work for many years & provide more online material like this so more people have a better wealth of knowledge within the community. Happy Ramadan CMC.

Thank you very much for this excellent lecture Ustad Amel!. I really liked the connections you have established between the weekdays and the stars. The etymology of the words is also amazing. Ramadan Mubarak.

Mashallah great initiative; after all, studying nature is a sacred business! Modern study of celestial world is thoroughly naturalistic. I very much hope that the lectures do not just make technical information accessible to commoners but include reflections on them as signs of God/ "ayaat". How do we see signs of God's wisdom, power, compassion...in them? It would be great to hear some insights on this regard...Jazakumullah khayr Dr Amel and CMC team! May Allah bless and advance your work.

Excellent lecture. I am so excited about the celestial lessons, we need more of this in our learning. It was the Qur'anic references to the moon and stars which played a large part in my conversion. Jazaakum Allah Kheir.

Would it be possible to change the background of the slides to darker colour next time? When one tries to concentrate on the stars you are showing, white light coming from the screen makes it a bit painful for eyes.

would you ask the teacher to share references in astronomy to read about it. also i like to know if astrology is something where islam believes in. for some reason, al biruni was holding a position of court astronomy? what is the use of this role if there were no belief in the concept? and the nature of having this immediate access and proximity to one pose a question by itself

Jazakum Allah khayra Amel and all at CMC. Something I've never understood is how the sun is said to move through the constellations, while at the same time we don't see the constellation it's in because the light of the sun overwhelms the stars. Historically how did people determine the sun's constellation without calculations? Or is that not possible, and you use what you could see in the night sky six months ago? Or something else?
Also, if you have any thoughts on a 13-phase lunar zodiac I heard referenced by Dr Ingrid Hehmeyer (used in Yemen for dividing water fairly from the qanats; video no longer available, sadly), that would be interesting.

    • @ebainton

The original Ingrid Hehmeyer paper is "Diurnal time measurement for water allocation in southern Yemen", Proceedings of the Seminar for Arabian Studies, Vol. 35, (2005), pp. 87-96
