    G'day, Hans here. Now look there are two types of people in this world, those that organize things and the rest of us are just kind of do what they say but if you think you're good with people and you like organizing things maybe human resources could be a career for you. We're here at the Department of Mines to find out what it's all about.
    You hear the term human resources all the time but it's a pretty obscure and confusing job title.
    All i know is that it involves dealing with lots of people which is why I'm here at one of the biggest people machines in WA, the Department of Mines and Petroleum to find out exactly what a human resources officer does.
    Great to meet you Alyce.
    Well let's start with everything, I need to know if you're working in Human Resources what do you do? So pretty much we work with the employees right through from application to retirement and that could be anything from looking after their safety to training to providing wellness programs or diversity events.
    So you follow someone's career basically from the beginning right through the end.
    Yeah while they're in that specific organization. Sure and ok well let's start at the beginning how you came to be in the job.
    What was your particular path? Where did you study how are you here today?
    I studied the ECU I studied a bachelor of business and I did a major in human resource management and from that I engaged in lots of different work experience, internship placements I put my name on the templates here at this department and they asked me to come back and work on my initial project.
    Okay, talk me through a day a typical day of yours when you turn up what do you get up to?
    First thing I do is look at my emails to make sure there's no employees that are concerned about any issues. That's the first thing you need to get to you need to reply to them quickly. I also because I'm the wellness coordinator I do a lot of events and presentations so i might be one day I might be booking in a presentation I'm checking that staff have RSVP'd properly that kind of thing. We also organize occupational safety and health inductions for new staff so i might be sending out invites.
    Okay, it's time for you to give us the edge. Can you do that?
    Absolutely question number one, just quickly from school to what you do now what's the process?
    Definitely finish high school and an excellent way to increase your opportunities then enroll in either a human resource management course at there's a number of different institutions that offer it or you could do a degree in business and get a a major in human resources or even a psychology degree.
    Question 2 if I want to be really successful in human resources what characteristics do i need?
    Definitely a good people person, you need to love working with people, also excellent communication skills that's a big one you need to always be talking with people and also being able to say the same thing to everybody being consistent with your advice to give throughout the organization.
    And question number three, if you could have done one thing differently but still end up exactly where you are today what would you have done there?
    Good question i'm quite happy with the path I took but I will say definitely being a little bit more comfortable about asking questions and seeking advice.
    Well Alyce, thank you so much for talking me through it I now know what it means to work in human resources.
    Thank you very much it's been really fun.
    Well there you go that's just the tip of the iceberg of what it means to work in human resources.
    If you want to get involved you want more info you gotta get onto studentedge.org and don't forget if you really keen about it get out there network and meet people.

    • @juhanivirtanen3438
      @juhanivirtanen3438 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      How you know? It requires that that man sees the woman only as an object, not human being. The picture is not a human. And it's only a hypothesis that men are so idiotic that if they see pictures of women in certain sexy positions they see women as objects. It doesn't make any sense, yet it's part of somekind of feminist theory because someone apparently knew how men must think and how idiotic men must be that they can't understand difference between picture and human being. Now feminist can just say that something is objectification of women without any actual proof. It is like a religion where elders tell what kind of representation of women is allowed, expect those rules are only for men, when woman does it to herself its empowering. It nothing more than trying to control men with one set of rules that don't apply to women.

      Nice video content! Excuse me for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you thought about - Schallingora Internet Commerce Scheme (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a good one off product for getting extra money working at home without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my friend at last got excellent results with it.

    but I have a psychology masters degree, how do I get started in this field, as many companies want an incumbent with an MHRM degree😞?

    • @UnlimitedProduction1
      @UnlimitedProduction1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my understanding you should be able to go into the field with psychology degree...maybe you would need prior experience for HR, but I doubt it. I know people in HR who have a variety of backgrounds from communications, political science to business, international business, marketing heck I even heard of people with science based degrees in the field.

This video is geared towards persons who are interested in exploring the field of HR. Furthermore, I mentioned nothing about my undergrad degree, which is NOT in psychology by the way. Thanks again.

      You're thinking within a limited capacity. It's OBVIOUS that if I were to work in HR, it would be within an industry where I have some knowledge or work experience. In other words, I wouldn't work for any companies doing aids research, as that's not my area of interest or expertise! Furthermore, HR professionals can work for companies that specialize in ANYTHING; moreover, a company wouldn't even hire me to work in their HR Department if I had limited or no knowledge\experience as to the area in which they specialize. With that being, said I am fully aware that I would have to apply for a position within my scope of practice and I'm also fully aware that an applicant would have to prove their abilities and not get hired solely based on how they answer the interview questions. I'm also sure that an HR program would educate students on the process of selecting new hires!

      +Kip Watts it true what you said...it happenes to me ....interviews are like hell for me here in uae because i didn t talk too much in english and also in my language which is arabic...you know who take jobs?people they just talk but at work and organizing they are null.

    BULLSHIT. We dont need this bs position!! In all the fatories and warehouses I worked out hr knew nothing about the actual position! Nothing about the day to day stuff. They only knew about pay,hrs and benefits. Sometimes they didnt even know what the shift was!!
    How can you justify your pay?????? Isnt it better to hr=ire a clerk instead? cheaper too??
    Then some try and justify themselves by actually walking on the floor and giving orders about thing they have never done and dont know anything about. wtf. am i the only one to see this?????????
