Not everyone is welcomed in “certain fields”…. Wether it be because of family reputations, school reputations or your personality, mental and physical capacity - even your core values.
Example: My husband has a hard time working with others because of his autism. He’s “stuck” with one employer who saw this and decided to put him on the job they had the hardest time keeping people on because of the isolation. He’s tried multiple time to get a higher paying job but he’d just burn out quickly because of all the social interaction. So he happily “stuck” with this one employer because they treat him with respect for doing the hardest job in their corporation.

Worked at a company and realized the new employees I was training were making more than me. I immediately asked for a raise and they promised me one in a few months. When a few months passed I asked where my raise was and they told me that actually they can’t give me a raise that high and sudden because it’s against their policy so I gave my two weeks notice right there and got another higher paying job lined up almost immediately. This is why you should always talk about each other’s salaries and don’t be loyal to a company that doesn’t respect you.

I am quoting what my mom said to bring others to the "Job Hopper" path.
"Once you stay at the same company for 10+ years, and you never ask for a promotion (or get one), your manager starts to feel like, 'Oh, nice. This person doesn't give a singular damn about if we promote them, so if we don't promote them, they'll still be loyal!'."
She quit her job because she felt undervalued for her work. If you guys feel like you are undervalued at the workplace, speak up. If they don't promote you, switch jobs. No one wants to be undervalued.

I’d also add that sometimes staying in a place can be worth it beyond the money if the people are just that amazing.
Some of my old jobs made more money but life was miserable because people hated each other. My current workplace is smaller and is “lower value” but the people have been genuinely so kind and loving. They helped me out of really tough life situation that they had no obligation to help out in. I made many lifelong friends.

There are so many "it depends" with this. It obviously depends on the individual and what they're happy with. Depends on the actual job. Some people are fine staying at the same job for a long time because of stability and maybe they're okay with just small raises. They have a stable job and get a raise every year - there's no reason to shame that. Not everyone is out there chasing all kinds of money. Nothing wrong with chasing it either, but let's not make that the only normal. What's normal is that you're in a job you like and it pays the bills, and then some. For some people $50k or $90k is enough.

Marketing, tech, corporate level work in retail as a buyer or brand educator or some other national or regional role, finance, telecommunications, and I'm sure a few others all have successful people job hopping every 3-5 years depending on the job and what's happening. I've known people who went from representing one major cosmetic brand as a trainer, to another, then to a regional level retail trainer, then back to individual brand and they make more than they could've dreamed if they had stayed with the first or second company. Sometimes upward movement requires such moves. Again, it's trade specific, and none of the folks I know who have been successful at it have mentioned burn out because the changes keep things interesting and challenging. Somebody else in a comment a bit further up points out at ppl like you had better to work hard in getting certified at different stuff within your field (that's another 8 hours of studying hard in your own time). With those certifications, then you can ask being promoted to a different department within your company (if that would be possible for you and your company). New departments with new responsabilities means higher pay grades. So that's the route, study hard and get those certifications. Otherwise it's a very tough decision to make, your company sounds like a good balance btw salary & responsibilities and daily hassle. Also, if you ever consider that in the benefit of getting a higher pay grade you'd be ready to spend 3 hours/day driving back and forth and more stressful work environment, then it follows that, anyway, in order to get those higher paying grades you still neeed to get yoru extra certifications/qualifications.
Hope that helped clear some ideas for you, best of lucks!

Changing jobs does not have to mean external moves. I’ve been with my company since I graduated college 8 years ago. In that time I’ve made a conscious effort to change roles every 1-2 years and been fortunate in that it has always been for growth opportunities. Next month I start my 7th position with the same company. On average, my compensation raised 20% annually. To me, this is far more optimal than bouncing around, as I’m able to make meaningful connections that can help drive future growth. I’d advise to seek career growth within your company first, and only after you’ve exhausted all options there look outside.

You're joking, but it's legit. What you can be getting paid at entry level jobs chances all the time too.
My cousin started working at 16 at Wendy's for minimum wage (7 something bucks) then went to Walmart and made $9.50, then went to a moving company and made $12 an hour, then went to pest control and made $16 an hour and then went merchant seaman and makes $60k his first year. He's still merchant seaman and makes $100k a year. No schooling besides high school.
I started working at Walmart for $9, I went to 7-11 for $10.50 then went to target for $15 and then went to a warehouse for $20 hr and I now make $25 an hour and again, no higher education but just job switching. I made $29k working at Target and 7-11 7 days a week ~55 hours a week to making $60k my first year at the wearhouse working 3-5 days a week 10-12 hour shifts (I averaged 48 hours a week my first year) and literally doubled my income. I made more in 2022 the 2020 and 2021 combined and I worked a lot more 20 and 21.
I worked even less last year at the same wearhouse, no promotions just raises, and made $69k. Again, I work no more than 5 days a week, I'm guaranteed at least 2 days a week and 4 days off a week if I don't want overtime. 10-12 shifts and my checks are between 1,585 and $1,6something every week before tax. So yes you can move around on the entry level and still level up, it just so happens I've been at every job I mentioned for about 2-3 years each.

The stress was so high that in the one week I managed to stay there, my hair started prematurely graying.
At the end of the week, I got my old job back, and will be retiring from there in ten more years. When I went back to my old job, my hair quickly returned to its normal color.

This is generally true - and this is because corporate budgets for hiring are significantly larger than corporate budgets for raises, to allow for more negotiation. This is why you keep noticing new hires making just as much or more than you despite working for the same company for decades. Always shops around every 2 - 3 years to see what is available. If they aren't offering more, then you don't have to take the position.

But it is considered a raise when your responsibility also increased? Wouldn't that mean you are just being paid for what you are doing now? I mean I work in customer service and my new job which also is under the same category now has more responsibility as I do handle company cash and other tools that require more responsibility on my side. I'm being paid well? Yes, compared to my last CC job. Would I consider a raise? No, I would if they paid me more than what is required for someone doing my work which is quite different from basic customer service.

    • @yogurLAPIZ
      @yogurLAPIZ 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@gamebox8980 I would call that pay adjustment. Since it's not something related to your work or skills but more that the state or country you live in has raised the minimum pay to adjust to the price increase. I only consider a raise when they pay more for the same skills or job, like an offer from the company to you. You won't expect to be paid the same as an apprentice then when you are a manager. Otherwise people would not accept high responsibility jobs as you still would be paid the same as the people under you.
For example in my company you have a raise yearly. Meaning you are still under the same job title but they do increase your pay depending on how they see your profile and contributions. This I would consider as a raise. Otherwise if the Spanish government decides to raise the minimum wage and so by doing this it will raise my pay I do not consider it as a raise because the company is abiding by law. It's my right not that they appreciate my job or work ethic.
I think it is best to keep the differences because again, at the moment I'm being paid more than my prior job but I also have more responsibility and need more experience and need knowledge to use diverse tools. I would not be expected to be paid the same as before. If I start looking for new jobs I would not look into the same job title or requirements because now my profile has changed.
If this person who made the comment decides to change company or bank they would be searching as a manager and even if they decided to post for a lower job title they would still be paid more than the current workers as they have experience on their belt as manager. If they apply as manager they would probably offer more as they have to settle some base for you to put their company above the others and this can only be done by money or benefits.

I would probably say that if you're happy to stay with the same employer, it's probably less risky to switch departments or roles within the same company so that you broaden your skillset and avoid having to learn new systems, work culture, etc. It doesn't hurt to search whether other vacancies are available and what they offer to new hires where you're currently working, and negotiate your wages/benefits to suit.

The 2nd girl will retire from her company and still be drawing a check from the while she is at another job earning more money or maybe she wont have too with her retirement check. I messed up and never stayed in one place long enough for a pension and now I am paying the price for that. People are always trying to escape "Bad Jobs" because they do not know how to handle stress. These 35 and under types were coddled by the school system and protected from the very things that taught us older types how to handle stress. We developed critical thinking as we had to come up with plans to deal with bullies and other bad behavior. We had to think on the fly as we dealt with these situations. All the younger crowd learned was how to hold up a stress card or tell a teacher about the big bad bully. When you coddle too much you end up with people who cannot deal with the harsh reality of the real world.

I have perfect attendance and I get 45 cents an hour more than the people we just hired..I also work multiple days in a row, I just worked 20 days without a day off because of the summer holiday season...I'm 60 years old so I can't just quit and get another job

It doesn't hurt to try. Send in an application. I always say, they still aren't charging for looking at your CV. I don't know what line of work you're in, but I've known some employers who prefer older, more experienced workers, even if it means they only get to work there for a few years. You can train a lot of new people in a few years.

My longest job was 13 months long and I've been unemployed since 2007 because of the deeply ageism in Spain, and because IT companies don't hire anyone over 35. I had 12 jobs in my career and was bullied in *ALL* of them.

Try grocery stores too, there are a lot of different positions there. Look for the fancier stores that offer higher wages. If you are ok standing for long periods of time, look into cake decorating- lots of stores are desperate for skilled decorators and they often pay higher than the stores min wage. I have a friend in her 30s who works as a decorator and is making $22/23hr, she has a number of autoimmunities and arthritis all over but she loves it and can do it with pleasure! Grocery stores also offer raises every year and you can look for independent bakeries from then on that pay more.

I'm sorry. Age discrimination is a real thing and they bet on the person's fear of not being able to work elsewhere. It is still worth looking around quietly to see if the job can be replaced with higher pay. Promote your experience in life and don't disclose your current pay.

I assume you work in retail based on your comment? If so, I would second the advice of someone above me. Fancier stores pay better, especially if they are big companies (like Whole Foods, luxury retail or specialty shops like perfume, jewelry or electronics). Definitely don’t quit until you have secured another job. But it never hurts to look. It can be nice to visit some of these shops and ask if they are hiring and how the employees like working there. I did this and was given the direct contact of the manager who was impressed at my level of interest and quickly offered me the job. So yeah, it’s worth a try, it’s your life after all :)

This is very true I didn't realize the stats behind it but I am 8 years into my career. I have moved on to different companies every 2-3 years and I make more than double what I did 4 years ago.

I have no problem switching jobs for a better paying job. My husband can’t stand it when I do that. He’s the loyalist type. My only locality is to my family.

the problem is that companies who "got" you already, quickly forget about your value...then you leave and they are looking for somebody to fill that same position for the pay you asked for. it's crazy.

I know this doesn’t work in every field but it definitely does in most. I worked at the same company for 17 years. I loved my job and the people and the projects (I worked in visual effects on movies, tv and commercial) worked on stuff like X-men First Class and Ready Player One. I got some bumps and promotions but finally things just weren’t going well so, I got a better offer and I left. I shit you not, within the next two years, I worked up quickly and had gotten what amounted to a 40% raise over those next two years. I wish I’d done it sooner as EVERYONE who left before me has done better financially. It was definitely hard and stressful but so worth it.

It pays to stay loyal sometimes. Some of the people I worked with who were loyal at one of the large banks are all operations managers or project managers now, where they started in roles as customer service reps. They now command a salary of over 100k a year. With their new found management experience, they can jump to other roles with salaries closer to 200k.
