Hi guys! I filmed a second HR video, th-cam.com/video/6DU7JcAcRb4/w-d-xo.html I go over the different HR Branches, hopefully this helps at least one person interested in HR :)
I am currently in grade 12 and looking into getting my bachelors degree in Human Resources management! But I feel as though it has been hard to find people with this career that I can ask questions to. So I really appreciated this video! Very insightful:)
Love this! I have my associates in psych and bachelors in social work. I find that clinical work /direct care is so stressful and not for me so I’ve been considering HR (hence how I found your video). I love that you mention inderictly helping patients. That’s totally what I’m looking for. This was helpful!
I switched my major to psychology and while in my senior year because I failed nursing school. I wasn't sure if I'd have a chance at HR coming from a non-business degree but you're a living testimony! Thanks for sharing your experience it was truly helpful!
I’m going to college right now and I’m majoring in Human Resources and I’ve taken majority of the classes that are the branches of HR and I didn’t really have an actual like opinion on which ones were more office based or difficult than others and you helped me to see which branch I would want to work in should I work at a bigger company, I’m trying to find an internship now and I aspire to be a great HR manager just like you :)
Thank you so much for this video!! I’m in my junior year of college and I’m currently taking an intro to HR class because I’m seriously considering a career in HR. There are so many different fields of HR so right now I’m trying to narrow down which field I’d be the most interested in. Also I’m minoring in psychology so it’s nice to hear that that’ll be helpful :)
"I hate chemistry with a passion" YESSSS SOMEONE WHO HAS SAME VIEW AS ME!!! I got a 58% on my advanced chemistry final because it was literally nothing we learned all year... As person who is a POC, is apart of different affinity groups and in HR I can unfortunately confirm. Your comment takes away from her point she is encouraging women to not settle and know their worth and what they deserve and she is 100% correct.
She's simply speaking on her reality as a woman of color. Gender biases affecting pay is still a large part of work culture today. Inviting other women to demand more regardless of people's biases is not only relevant but necessary.
Thank you so much for this info I have been having a hard time finding a job since u graduated with my Bachelor degree in HR in June now I'm working on my Masters in HR and still applying for jobs
That's awesome! You got this! If you don't have one already, I highly recommend creating a LinkedIn because recruiters are always using that platform to find new hires and its a great way to connect with professionals in the same field!
I don’t think that’s a good idea to get a masters in something you are having a hard time securing a job with a bachelors. Try internship that can turn into a full time paying job
This is such an insightful video. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I'm thinking of returning to higher education and love everything psychology, but like you, I am very sensitive an empathic and feel that that field would be too emotionally draining for me. I have been considering Organizational Psychology and your insights have been really helpful with confirming what I already feel is the better path. :)
I got so much backlashes when I choose this course.....my parents wanted me to either be a doctor or an engineer......they were like it's so promising.....but am an I don't care so I went for what the heart wants .....I hope they will realize....thanks for the great video tho ☺️
Omg... Same here... I'm about graduate in 3 months, a bachelor's degree in psychology, and I'm kinda lost if I should go for io psychology or Hrm. Now I'm more confident where I should go, Thank you so much, sister 🥺💚

I’m finishing my Associate’s Degree in December of this year. Thinking about continuing school and getting my Bachelor’s in Psychology and aiming towards Human Resources. Unsure though, so I’m doing all the research I can on what I can expect to encounter in this field.
I just got hired (internal) for an HR specialist job with the fed govt and start in a week. My current job has nothing to do with HR whatsoever but I think they may have picked me because of my Masters which is in Forensic Psych, but they didn’t interview me so I’m not sure. I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can about HR in the meantime. You really can do a lot with a background in Paych. Would definitely recommend also would recommend the government because HR jobs there can (at top promo potential) pay in low 6 fugures.
Amazing video! Super helpful and informative. Giving much insight of what working in HR is really like and what to expect. Im currently pursuing my bachelor’s in Human Resource management and you answered a lot of questions I had about entering this field. Thank you!!
I have a bachelor's degree in business management and am working as an Administrative Officer. I have done some HR duties but would like to get much exposure in HR what would you advise me to do?
I just found this video. I came up here to research things that I need to know when it comes to HR works and responsibilities. By the way, I just promoted from HR Encoder/clerk to Back-up Admin and now as HR. I don't have enough experience in HR works that is why I want to know things related to HR works❤. I love this video. I learned a lot❤.
Thank you so much for this video! I’m gonna be a senior next year so I’m tryna figure out what college I should go to/what I should major in. Seriously considering HR!
This is such an informative video, thank you so much! Is there any way you could do a video on the different branches of HR? I see many different lists online and sometimes two or three of them differ and they don't offer the best explanations. I really want to figure out what I'm interested in so that I can start applying for internships.
Hello. Thanks for your video, I just enrolled in school for fall semester my goal is to get my AAB in Business Management Human Resources. I’m already working for the government as a Senior Typist Clerk, been with my job for 16 years. I found out I could attend school and my Union would pay for it. I’m so excited to take steps in doing something new. My daughter graduate in 2 years from HS. My goal is to get my AA degree the same year she graduate 💜🙏🏽🦋✊🏾
Thank you so much for this video Carmen! This was a much needed video as I'm at that stage of my career where I'm planning to take up my masters in HR field. I had a few doubts: 1. I too am a psychology undergraduate and was inclined towards this field. I am confused in relation to going in for I/O Psychology or HRM course.Which is better? 2. Does interning at bigger/reputed firms benefit more than interning at startups? Regards
Thank you so much for this video! I started under grad on a pre-health track. Chem was my enemy, so I switched majors to psychology with a minor in hr management. I’m in my senior year of undergrad, and starting to apply to apply to grad school. I’m unsure whether to go down the i/o psychology route or the HR route. But my problem is that I don’t have any experience. Any advice on how to gain some experience in the field of hr.
Ugh Chem is the worst! But that honestly depends on what you want to do career wise. Do you want to be in more of a consulting role (i/o psych route) or do you want to be an HR Manager/Director (HR Route). Also, consider the length of time you want to invest in grad school, Masters vs. PhD. A few days ago, I uploaded a video on tips for gaining experience in HR, let me know if you have any other questions after watching that one :)
If you're in college, try to find internships with companies your school partners with. If you're not in school, try to get an HR job in a non-profit. The pay isn't always great, but they're more willing to train someone without any experience!
Hr has many different departments I believe the more experienced the bigger your role can be. The only problem is that in order to be an HR specialist you gotta have a min of a Baccalaureate degree
I'll be entering a bachelor in HR in September with an internship. I'm French so as long as I'm not in a manager position, here employers can't make you do more then 35 hours on average per week. After that tho, I guess it depends on your contract. Most I know are assumed to do 40 hours but are actually free to leave when they want as long as the job is done (I work in the aeronautic industry)
Hmm good question! I really don’t have an answer for that right now, I like HR, but there’s so much more I would like to do. I guess yes to putting my psych degree to work outside of HR would be the short answer lol.
Thank you for this! I'm starting my very first job and first HR job ever! Your video is amazing 💖 btw, I'm in recruiting and oh my. I'm not fond of sitting for hours but oh well 😂
I'm graduating in may and I'm also a psychology major but i rather be in HR or at least be apart of admin in clincs psychological clinics or just hospitals. Psychology plays many roles and i prefer paper work. I will still go for my masters but i want to be on the paper work end of psychology
So glad I came across this video. I am currently in the HRM program to get my certification here in Canada and landing an HR job is so difficult for I have been unemployed since COVID and have been applying every single day. Do you have any recommendations on how to get my foot in the door?
I would like to get a bachelor's degree in hr in the future, but for now I want to get an associates at a community college so I can get my foot in the door of more reputable companies. I've been back and forth on whether I should I get my associates in hr or office administration. I am a single mom with a one year old and I come from a poor family. I am tired of struggling financially and making minimum wage. I am from an island in the Caribbean and I'm looking to turn around my financial situation for me and my son. I would appreciate any advice given. Thanks!
Hello! If your interest is HR, I would advise getting an associates in HR, it would be more beneficial to your HR career then a degree in office admin. I completely understand coming from a poor family, I did too! Hard work pays off, just keep pushing on and you will reach your goals. If you don’t have one already, definitely create a LinkedIn account, it’s a great way to connect with recruiters looking for new HR employees. I would also recommend looking into HR roles in non-profits, they are often more willing to take a chance on someone with little to no experience compared to the the bigger companies out there. Best of luck :)
What if I’m a social work major? I’m a freshman in college and I’m looking at the vast field of social Work and there’s a vast floor of pay and I’d like to make good money as most social workers get paid way less then they deserve which is a shame. I look at HR as an opportunity to achieve a good salary while making a difference in many different ways! I’d love to hear your response
I completely understand! I actually used to hire social workers & it's a shame they don't get paid better. However, if you are interested in social work, if you go into private practice, there is way more money there then non-profit or hospitals. But if you've decided on HR, I don't see why your degree in social work will be of any hindrance. Just try to land an HR internship while in college to build your resume.
The name of the curse is not a career, it’s all about transferable skills, past work experience etc etc You can ask how a nursery nurse job has anything to do with HR profession? It’s all about how you explain how these skills are transferable.
Hello. I’m about to start my first year in college and I decided to major in HR but I’m so scared that I won’t be successful or make as much money as I would like and a lot of people have been telling me that I’m going to find it really hard to get a job so right now I’m just really confused on what to do
Hi! You're not alone in feeling that way, almost every freshman in college feels that way. My freshman year of college was horrible & I had so many doubts of what I wanted to do. The best advice I can give you is to listen to your heart. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on what you should major in and what career you should go into, but don't let them project their own insecurities onto you. There's money in HR, I've seen people hit 6 figures before 30, I'm 25 and I was only a few thousand away from hitting 6 figures. However, like any other career, you need experience and you need to be prepare to start at the bottom. You won't graduate college and make an amazing salary, but if you work hard, show companies that you're an asset to their company, you have the potential to make a good salary a few years after college.
Everyone has doubts their Freshman year of college, that's the beauty of college! It's the time to explore different options! Think of it this way, HR will ALWAYS be around. Every single company has an HR department, rather it's small or large & it's a very important component of a successful company. Find internships to gain experience, through them you will learn that you either love HR or you hate it. Better to discover that during college then after.
@@CarmenGilFraguada Hey carmen, do you think I should be interning after my freshman year considering that I am only taking gen eds or should I wait a little bit longer?
Hi carmen ! I'm a fresh graduate 🎓 of Agriculture sciences my minor subjects were all related to Agricultural studies but last 2 years of major i have studied social sciences related courses and luckily I studied HRM module and it changed my mind completely I truly enjoyed that module and now I am planning to do my masters in HRM from any recognised university from UK. Would you suggest me to give it a shot because I love communicating with people, listening to them solving their matters, making them feel better and happy I really love human beings no matter where do they belong their religion, culture and sexuality i am person who genuinely respects people and try to own their problems and I am great in negotiations and conflict resolution all these things comes natural to me and theoretically that only one HR module taught me alot please give me your positive feedback 😊 Should I apply into master in HRM ?
Omg you're 25!!! You look soo young! I have a question were there any internships in hr that u would recommend? and how do u balance your work life with your personal?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. would you please tell me that working in HR is easy for newcomers too? I have a long background in this field but not in the US and at this time we are preparing to come to America, Washington DC. I was wonder if it's possible for me to get an HR job there or should I take up some courses to be eligible such as PHR? I appreciate it if you answer my comment.
Hello ! I just found this video. I’m majoring in communications( com studies)Do you think I could transition into HR with this major ? I want to apply for HR internships but I’m not sure if they will even consider me since I’m not specifically doing HR as a major. love this video BTW
Thank you! And I definitely think so! I recommend to still apply to HR internships and if you find that you're not hearing back, maybe reach back out to the same companies you applied to & ask for feedback! Don't let your hesitations keep you back :)
Thank you for this. As of rn I’m a recent graduate at OU and I have an MDS degree and a minor in pre-nursing studies and women’s gender studies and plan to do my masters in HR… I found this video very helpful and would like to get in contact with you if possible.
It depends on the company you work for. For example, in my last role, the HR department was heavily involved in new employee orientation which included giving presentations, but in my other roles this wasn't the case. But after doing it a number times, your become less nervous!
OMG! I am experiencing the same problem as you. I have a TESL degree and towards the end, I realised that I like doing HR tasks. From your POV, do you think it ia necessary to do an MBA in Human Resource to get a job and have a background in business and management?
I was offered to be an Intern for my high school (I’m applying to transfer from community college to university) I’m stuck whether to choose HR or accounting for my emphasis on my applications! I’m stuck and contemplating whether choosing one or the other will affect me... aaahh so stressful.
I am transitioning as well. I went to community college (will finish by January) and will move on to higher education as well. Personally, I recommend doing internships in the field you'll seem to like more. Now, it is easier to find remote work because of the pandemic. I am currently doing this and it really allows you to get a leg up on experience on your resume and prepare you for schooling.
thank you so much for this informative video. in one part of the video, you said that you deal with laws. how do you apply your knowledge about law in your career?
i'm near boston too! i graduated two years ago with a BS in sociology and have learned that working for nonprofits is not for me - similarly they're money hungry and underpaid employees.
I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and have experience working in an library. I enjoy learning about behaviors of people and helping, but I have poor communication skills. I work better alone. Is Hr right for me?
Such a great video! Very insightful- would you recommend someone that got a degree in education to go back for a degree or certificate program in HR. I have some HR experience from a internship and onboarding/hiring at my previous positions
Carmen, how can I hit the ground running as someone new to a HR Recruiting Coordinator role? I would like to know what can I proactively do to make a good impression upon the staff and managers that I collaborate with?
I need help I told my therapist that my parents weren't to open about me getting medication and that my parents were trying to make an appointment but there weren't any more spot , so she call HR and a month later I finally had a date for an appointment but the HR from the county came to visit but we weren't there and now that I am receiving help the HR of the state called and I'm scared and don't know what's gonna happen can someone explain what's gonna happen or if I should be worried.
I am a BA Psych grad as of a few month ago and since I don’t have much experience, I am getting a certification (aPHR) that doesn’t require any experience but helps you get your foot in the door and show employers you are willing to take initiative and learn. If you’re still in school, try finding an HR internship to boost your resume and get experience. It’s less about your degree and more about experience.
What’s your recommendation for getting experience in HR? I currently work for the government in Fleet Operations / handling mileage reports etc. I’m a Senior typist clerk. I’m guessing my best bet is to just transfer to that department as a Sr. Typist Clerk? That way I have experience from that department, then when I complete school, promote up while I’m already there?
I think it’s a great idea! But you will still need experience to back up the degree. If you’re able to gain experience prior or during grad school, it’ll help you a lot!
I did my bachelors in arts and i am currently pursuing Post Graduation Diploma in Human Resource Management from an Open University (IGNOU) will this course help me get into core HR?
I went through so many HR interviews and none of them are calling me back at all. I'm not sure what I am saying wrong or if my answer aren't strong enough. I'm so stressed
How did you get your position in the movie theater? I'm a business management major at CSUF with three associates and I can hardly get a job that pays over minimum wage.
Hi Carmen, I just came across your video. I just recently lost my job last year during the painful pandemic .I was in Retail, where I was a Assistant Store Manager and had to do alot of human resources, yoy know like schedules, payroll, I9, Audit for cashiers.hiring, firing, new jokes paper work.you get it. Since I have lost my job ,I was thinking of changing up from retail and going in to HR because I did like it very much. I'm just afraid I'm too old .My question to you is ,do you think I have enough of experience to change up from different career. I'm willing to start at the bottom, but what type of HR should I do, Hospital, Grocery Store,I really want to just do office. Help!!!!

But what about generalist tracks like Business Partnering? There’s also global mobility
P
hi, may i ask the difference between compensation-benefits and culture and satisfication?
Does compensation and benefits entail math?
Thanks for posting!

Would definitely recommend also would recommend the government because HR jobs there can (at top promo potential) pay in low 6 fugures.
do they require a vaccine since it’s the fed govt?
@@refillwithlife yes all fed employees are required to be fully vaccinated by 11/22/21, barring certain medical exemptions.
@@singlesightart thanks so much
@@refillwithlife I work for the Gov. They have religious exemption options. I’m in Cali

I'm a senior in high school and this really helped. Thank you so much.
So glad it was helpful! 🤎
Yes to having a good work-life balance!!
This is such an informative video, thank you so much! Is there any way you could do a video on the different branches of HR? I see many different lists online and sometimes two or three of them differ and they don't offer the best explanations. I really want to figure out what I'm interested in so that I can start applying for internships.
Omg no way I went to Suffolk as well !! I subbed btw love your content
ayyy that's so cool! Thank you for subscribing! :)
Great video, thanks for sharing!
I’m an HR Professional from Australia, really interesting to see how similar things are in the States!
This is a good video and just what I needed. Thank you so much.
I’m glad it was helpful 🤍
Hello Carmen, great video. I really enjoyed your presentation. The information is very informative.
here before i major in organizational psychology & get into hr
U r so pretty and smart! So awesome u started your career so young !!
Thank you so much for this video Carmen! This was a much needed video as I'm at that stage of my career where I'm planning to take up my masters in HR field. I had a few doubts:
1. I too am a psychology undergraduate and was inclined towards this field. I am confused in relation to going in for I/O Psychology or HRM course.Which is better?
2. Does interning at bigger/reputed firms benefit more than interning at startups?
Regards
I enjoyed the HR Content and would like to see more of your HR journey; possibly a Day in the Life of HR. #momoeduok|#momoshrconsultingfirm
This video was amazing! Thank you🙌💕
Thank you so much for this video!
U mention slot how important experience in HR is so what r ur recommendations on getting experience asap?
If you're in college, try to find internships with companies your school partners with. If you're not in school, try to get an HR job in a non-profit. The pay isn't always great, but they're more willing to train someone without any experience!
@@CarmenGilFraguada I'm in highschool by the way but thanks
Hr has many different departments I believe the more experienced the bigger your role can be. The only problem is that in order to be an HR specialist you gotta have a min of a Baccalaureate degree
I'll be entering a bachelor in HR in September with an internship. I'm French so as long as I'm not in a manager position, here employers can't make you do more then 35 hours on average per week. After that tho, I guess it depends on your contract. Most I know are assumed to do 40 hours but are actually free to leave when they want as long as the job is done (I work in the aeronautic industry)
Thank you for the video. I am 3 months away from a degree in HR :) // Swedish fan
Do you have plans to put your Psychology to work outside of HR? Or do you think you will stay within HR?
Hmm good question! I really don’t have an answer for that right now, I like HR, but there’s so much more I would like to do. I guess yes to putting my psych degree to work outside of HR would be the short answer lol.
Great video and wishing you the best on your journey!
Thank you! :)
Do you have any recommendations on how to get my foot in the door?
it took me years to get a job in HR and I have a Masters. I was told I'm over qualified in education and lacked experience
How do I go from psychology to Human Resources and how did you get experience?
Office admin and office managers kind of are jacks of all trades. They do HR, finance, payroll, etc
Hey! I’m a HR Professional. Let’s connect! 😁
Omg! I was a biochem major before I changed to HR after realizing I hate science. That’s awesome. Keep being great!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Carmen....just looking at your pretty face gives me confidence to never give up in my Hr journey.
Thanx for the vid😘
That’s so sweet, thank you! 🤗 Wishing you the best of luck in your HR journey :)
Hello. I’m about to start my first year in college and I decided to major in HR but I’m so scared that I won’t be successful or make as much money as I would like and a lot of people have been telling me that I’m going to find it really hard to get a job so right now I’m just really confused on what to do
I'm on the same boat as. I'm also a freshman who has doubts going into HR
Carmen GilFraguada thank you soo much for this. It was really helpful
You’re very inspiring! Thank you so much you made my day 🤍🤍🤍☺️
Would you suggest me to give it a shot because I love communicating with people, listening to them solving their matters, making them feel better and happy I really love human beings no matter where do they belong their religion, culture and sexuality i am person who genuinely respects people and try to own their problems and I am great in negotiations and conflict resolution all these things comes natural to me and theoretically that only one HR module taught me alot please give me your positive feedback 😊
Should I apply into master in HRM ?
Omg you're 25!!! You look soo young! I have a question were there any internships in hr that u would recommend? and how do u balance your work life with your personal?
25 is young babe lol
@@mj43va right. They must be a teenager to think 25 is old lol 😆
Can u do any social science course to get into Human Resources manager? Cause I was thinking of doing sociology in college
Same I’m currently planning on majoring in sociology
Thank you for this. As of rn I’m a recent graduate at OU and I have an MDS degree and a minor in pre-nursing studies and women’s gender studies and plan to do my masters in HR… I found this video very helpful and would like to get in contact with you if possible.
Also I am a former athlete trying to figure out how to get started with HR with no work Experience because I never had time to.
Is there any HR position where you wont have to give presentations? Thats my fear...
It depends on the company you work for. For example, in my last role, the HR department was heavily involved in new employee orientation which included giving presentations, but in my other roles this wasn't the case. But after doing it a number times, your become less nervous!
That's also my concern..
Hii
I did my Masters in Social work. Would it be suitable for me to go for another Masters in Human Resource Management?
Hey Carmen, thanks for this video. Any suggestions on which HR branch is more convenient for an entry level?
Great video by the way!!
Thank you so much for the great video. It is so helpful video. But my question is what are the best degree of an HR?
You just answered my question: who does HR For HR personnel???LOL ….YOU DO…..of course!!!!
Carmen, how can I hit the ground running as someone new to a HR Recruiting Coordinator role? I would like to know what can I proactively do to make a good impression upon the staff and managers that I collaborate with?
So as a graduate in BS HR management with certs and very little experience, would you say i should apply for an assistant position?
Loved the video!! Its very informative ❤ can I work within the HR field with a Bachelor's in communication?
Thank you!! And yes! ❤️
@@CarmenGilFraguada okay thank you! I've watched your other recent videos and you did mention that haha. Thanks again ❤

Thank you... Thank you for sharing 😊.
I am doing BA Psychology and going to do HR after that. Any tips?
I am a BA Psych grad as of a few month ago and since I don’t have much experience, I am getting a certification (aPHR) that doesn’t require any experience but helps you get your foot in the door and show employers you are willing to take initiative and learn. If you’re still in school, try finding an HR internship to boost your resume and get experience. It’s less about your degree and more about experience.
A lot of the job duties for Human Resource sound very similar to Business Administration/Management? Such as recruiting and staffing?
What’s your recommendation for getting experience in HR? I currently work for the government in Fleet Operations / handling mileage reports etc. I’m a Senior typist clerk. I’m guessing my best bet is to just transfer to that department as a Sr. Typist Clerk? That way I have experience from that department, then when I complete school, promote up while I’m already there?
Do you think a PHD in HR would be a good idea ? Could I get a higher paying job straight out of grad school at a big company ?
I had previous experience in management from my first job.
Help!!!!
Hey there i was asking if i can study human resources if i took these subjects : Business studies , Accounting, Math literacy /Math lit
Thank you!!!
is there any difference between Bachelor of Business Administration in human resource and Human Resource Mangement???
