You have a good point. In the beginning, it did irritate my knee. As I got better at controlling my speed across the board it felt better. There are sloped slideboards that have no bumpers - much more difficult that a conventional board. The ends are pretty key to replicate the motion of loading and launching off one leg.

Typically this workout is done as a 'pyramid' with equal training time to rest time. For example, start out at 30 seconds on, then 30 seconds rest, then 45 seconds on, then 45 seconds rest. Go up to 1 minute or 2 minutes and then work your way down. The key to the exercise is being low. If you are high, you are not getting much out of it. Its not just a leg exercise, you need to keep your core tight to maintain balance and stability. Good luck!

I just got started rollerblading and I like it a lot. I wish that I had started when I was younger but I am trying. I am learning from videos like yours and would appreciate it if you would tell me where I can get one of those work out pads and shoes or of any places to train. Thanks I will keep watching for your lessons.

Hey Kevin I see training is coming along great! Keep up the good work! BTW are those hockey socks you're using for slideboarding? They look comfortable.

I am not sure what skeelers are? For skaters we want to push directly to the side so that all of our push gets into the ice and power is not lost with the skate drifting backwards. In speed skating you push to the side to go forward. What is a skeeler?

Question regarding technique for skeelers ; when you set off with your pushing leg , should one focus the strenght sideways ( should your skate's frame point in the direction you're moving ) , or can this be like 30 degrees sideways ?
I've often wondered how this is done best , but I can't figure it out on 'moving' skates. This training exercise shows your foot moves perfectly sideways. Is this the way to go for both ice skating and skeelers ?

Kevin, does the constant impact on the stops create any problems for your knees or ankles? I'm creating a training area in my house on a wooden floor that I think will work. Am considering not using any stops. Thanks!

How long do you spend on the slideboards, also do you take breaks in between, or is it just continuous?

Those are just hockey socks. Better to use those or wool socks so that you can put them over your shoes.

I am not an expert but I think your meant to have full extension on your pushing leg.

Xavier7564 Yes. This. I was wondering how wide this board is. It’s limiting extension.

Makes no sense, because you're not going forward the only energy is to the side, so they put a stop block there which would eventually ruin you knees. Yay. Also your not pushing forwards, it makes no sense at all. Theoretically you'd train yourself to go from side to side. Cut to 1 year later on the starting line, commentators = "Bill, what's he doing?" "I dunno Bob, he seems to just be stuck there going from side to side."
