It's not about if any viewer can do it better, it's about someone being hired for the job with the responsibility to deliver a good experience for the whole world of speed skating. Just the fact that someone thought this person ticked all the boxes as an Olympic commentator is an insult to all the fans. To answer your question: yes, I'm sure 90% of the people viewing this with even the slightest interest in the sport and basic English knowledge would do a better job. It is that bad.

She kept calling him Bum during his race, so she thinks Bum is his surname.

This has got to be one of the coolest looking sports I've seen. I had to mute the video though.
I never knew there was such sport as ice skating race. It took me 10 years. I have only watched Yuzuru Hanyu and friends skating the rink.

The Positive: Speed skating is exciting. So, SO quick, and so much obvious power.
The Negative: THE COMMENTATING LADY WON'T STOP YELLING HER TERRIBLE COMMENTARY AT ME.
"They're going fast" is just... just bad commentary.
She didn't do her homework...WILL HE COME IN FIRST?!
The only type of speed skating that requires a commentator is Short Track Speed Skating (I actually do Short Track), there is anywhere from 2 to 8 people squeezed onto a 100 or 111m long track with lots of passing and action. Way more strategies are used that can change the corse of the race

I think what’s happening is she’s trying to use very simple English because it’s an Olympic commentary that is meant to be viewed by people all over the world with a wide range of english ability.
Tbh she has such a unique style in commenting I love it!
