4:08 "if you have gain set too 100% it's too heavy, at least I think it's too heavy". Well mate if I see those arms and you think it's too heavy, it probably is lol
Thanks for making this video and going down the line on every setting and not only explaining what they all mean but how to adjust them and what sensations to feel for to know when you've got it dialed in for your own preference. For those of us that have never driven a car in a demanding environment like a race car on a track and have only putted around the neighborhood in their dinky little automatic sedan this is huge boon for learning what true to life FFB is supposed to feel like with no other point of reference from which to draw. Great video
Just getting back into sim racing after a long hiatus, and your descriptions and suggestions are *very* much appreciated. With all the setting variables in decent sims you can wind up chasing your tail when, if you have a good baseline, you can just get on with some tweaking and focus on having a good time. Cheers!
Just got my GH920 to begin racing at age 70:-) a As an AVID gamer since the day games first appeared I now game over 12+ hours EVERY day. But mostly (80-90%) just shooters and burned out, especially being wounded 4 times in REAL life as a USMC Combat Vet. But silly me! I was SO ignorant about racing I honestly was STUPID enough to assume I could buy a wheel, set it in my lap and off I would go racing... Yeah right. So now just ordered a stand for my G920 but sold out till sometime after Jan 15 or later before even shipping. Have 14 racing games and losing my friggin MIND waiting to get out there and race. But wanted YOU to know I have now "EDUCATED" MYSELF more from this channel than most anywhere else and your videos have been so helpful I suppose you will just never honestly know how beneficial they are to someone like myself. Someone who THOUGHT they had it all figured out to only discover they had no clue...
Most of these types of vids are people just rattling off the settings and signing out, I appreciate you taking your time and really explaining why and what things are doing, in dirt rally 2 I used your settings and it felt a little off but because you explained everything so well I was able to fix my issues with it myself. Cheers
Just purchased g920 for my mame arcade games. Very impressed for price. Sold my racing rig (fanatec setup) as I'm done with simracing and only interested in arcade games these days. No time. Thanks mate. Bboy
Your videos have been making it so much easier for me to get into these simulation games. On top of that I could listen to you talk all day, you have an awesome accent! I just wanna hear you say "Avi!! Pull your socks up!"
You're kinda right, but minimum force is to do with the ffb linearity. Most wheels come with a ffb 'dead zone', unless they are direct drive (much more expensive), so they feel light on the straight. Minimum force compensates for that by starting the ffb later in the curve, usually about 10%. A better option I've found is to use a lookup table or LUT, you have to use a program called wheel check and LUT generator, but it tells the game exactly what the curve is for the wheel and minimizes the deadzone, thus making it more linear.
Exactly mate, the FFB dead zone is present because of the mechanical load of the wheel base mechanism itself (not found in DD wheel bases as there is no mechanism) and as you say weak wheel bases will suffer more too. The LUT generator is the better way but that's for another video, was just keeping it simple in this one to get people up and running quickly :)
Thank you very much for explaining each of the steering wheel settings. Purchasing a steering wheel was a small dream of mine. Not long ago I realized it by purchasing a g920. I immediately went to test it in Assetto corsa and was a little disappointed, the standard preset turned out to be terrible, I already thought that it was a bad steering wheel. But your settings made me feel the game with this wheel in a completely different way. The behavior of the car and understanding of the road surface have become more understandable and predictable. Even this steering wheel gives the impression of driving a car of any class. Thank you for sharing this video
Thank you very much! I need to learn so much and im glad i found your channel. You are calm and a an excellent teacher, who i can understand! Happy racing folks.
Thanks Karl! This is the best tutorial on force feedback I've seen so far. Many others say to keep the kerb and road effects to zero but i find that doesn't work for me as i drive touge.
Hello, I was wondering something. This steering wheel uses electric motors with brushes, when these will consume as in all brush motors how do you do? 🙄
I had a Logitech driving force gt for 4 years of heavy use. Eventually I got rid of it because I realized how much time I was spending playing it. Well I bought a G923 not too long ago haha and I'm back on it.
This is great thank you, ive been finding mine was un-calibrating mid race because i had it on 100% gain with no minimum feedback and my wheel sensitivity on 75 in ghub (it was fine on F1/Dirt/Grid btw so i know it wasnt hardware)
I’ve got perfect settings on my g29 with ACC, but as I’m just now getting into AC because I love the diversity of cars and tracks with it. I have noticed that force feedback is much less on AC so I will give this a try next time I’m on it. Thanks.
Thanks Karl. Always looking at other settings and your differ a lot from most and most i don't find very real. I'll adjust to suit my wheel but thanks for your ideas!
Thank you, very useful as I wasn't quite sure what all the categories actually meant. Also, I would like to say you might be the best looking guy in sim racing.
Waiting on my G29 arriving today, so this is very useful Karl. I’m using the command centre (full version), so the comments section here has talked a little bit about switching a wheel on in that software which is useful. All the dlc is currently on sale as well which is handy. Thanks again Karl!
These settings are perfect. Thankyou very much, always informative, always accurate. It was due to things you had said that I had bought the g29 over other wheels, and I've never been so happy with anything. Thank-you again Mr. Gosling, please keep up the great work, you're very good at it; easy to watch, easy to understand, and accurate. Much appreciated 🙂 UPDATE Oct.31 2020 - Just went through Wehrseifen on the Nord in the Redbull x2010, swear I could feel the right side tyres fold over from the G forces, through the wheel. Really nice Karl. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
@@KarlGosling I have much respect for you. I appreciate your vids, and I even look to you as a role model on lifestyle. I also notice how you reply to every comment that is made. You're good people Karl, I'll not hesitate to say it. Greetings from British Columbia, Canada.

Thank you for this relly good video :) straight to the point and really helpful, I tryd the other day to format my external drive I used for my xbox series s just so I could back up everything thing I didn't need from my pc and the programme I used didn't select the external drive lol o no, 🙃 it only selected my main drive and started to wipe that 😞 what a rubbish programme There was just nothing I could do to stop it :( I set my wheel up like 2 years ago and as for the settings I had befor no clue , so thank you again bro for this video
Cypher Duos I got one to, was a pain in the ass setting up and I have no room for it and it barley fit my desk but once I set it up it was really fun and H shifter makes it a lot better.
in FFB i set gain at 100% and all others at 0%. Becuase all the other effects are enhances for the effect not a % on how much it effects the FFB. so to get the most accurate FFB just set 100% gain and let everything else on 0% feels so good :)
Tried Assetto Corsa for the first time yesterday with new G920 wheel. But I couldn't get the wheel to work. Will try again later after watching this guide ;-)
really good video mate!! finally i found sombody else that dont use minimum force... seen people using 20% madness! i use 3% and pretty much the same settings as you. 👌 feels spot on. well as good as it can get on this wheel
Just came across this video. Great info! I've been using the default G29 settings for ages. I'll give your settings a go and see. Not quite ready to step up to a DD wheel yet, so hopefully your guide will improve the FFB experience. 😕
Very useful thank you. Just picked up G920 yesterday from Amazon - £160. Bargain - but yes AC seemed ridiculously hard on defaults so this was useful, thanks!
Also, kerb and road effects aren't actually turned off at 0%, they are still there as that's part of the simulation. But Going above 0% simply amplifies them so you can feel them better depending on preference and quality of wheel. You're right about slip and ABS effects, they are 'canned' or an effect that can be added.
Hey, I want to show my dad my wheel, but he is usually really tough on steering wheels, he likes to push and pull on them when he is driving, (last time I let him use a wheel he ripped it of my desk on accident). Yes mate you're correct, the G920 needs a little amplification IMO, you really can't feel anything with kerb and road at 0% it's just too weak.
Just curious if you connected to ghub and put your wheel in sport mode,
