Mario is the type of guy that despite spending so much time on adventures, would still make time for donating to charities and giving inspirational speeches at school auditoriums. The type of guy that would never turn down autographs or act snoody and would always show his appreciation for his fans. Mario is just a real dude.
He's rich and famous but he didn't let it get to his head and he uses his wealth and social influence to help people. He's the best type of rich guy. I mean, all of those coins and he's still a humble, nice and down to earth dude. No wonder why Luigi looks up to him and eventually was able to be a hero like him. Mario inspires people. He brings out the best in people. He helps people come out of their shells and be themselves. Same with Peach and Toad and how they've become more adventurous. Mario is an idol and helps his pals. We can all use a friend like Mario.
He's basically the DC comics of Superman. He does the right thing not because of fame and for attention or for praise. He does it because it's the right thing to do
You forgot to mention: he literally went trough hell just to save Luigi in Super Paper Mario. That's just heroic.
He went through so much stuff in that game.
That’s not how it happened at all. Since Mr. L failed two times, Dimentio basically turned him back to Luigi and sent him to hell. Then, Dimentio sent Mario, peach, and Bowser to hell. Mario just happened to find Luigi there.

When Luigi decides he wants to 1 on 1 Dimentio, Mario hesitates to leave and consider leaving Luigi on his own for a whole two seconds longer.

Mario get many times misunderstood in some situations. Yeah there is the scene where Mario stomp on Luigi's feet when Luigi wins in the game but that is just brother rivaly I mean who doesn't fight with his brother?
Also yes the Toads got turned in the first games into the brick blocks but do you even know that Mario has the knowledge of this? How should he know that every brick is a Toad?
Also in Mario sunshine, Mario was not guilty for all the dirt on the island and he couldn't leave the place without cleaning it. But did Mario care? No he tried to do his best to help them even if it was not his fault.
Bowser and Mario also have a kinda Hero, Villain relationship but they understand eachother you know this since Mario always invite Bowser to his sport and party games as also in the RPG's Mario and Bowser support eachother and think about that Bowser's inside story Mario even helped Bowser to get stronger.
He does everything to save every kingdom and those in need no matter how dangerous it is for him. So stop with this Mario is a psychopath or the Villain. Every Person and Hero's makes mistakes but for that they are human no matter if they are only exist in Videogames or also in Real live every action someone does has a reason.

I always cant help but to smile from ear to ear when i see mario being nice to luigi, the hug in luigis mansion 3 was really adorable, him giving luigi a handshake and praising what he did in luigis mansion 2 was nice, but i will always see luigi as my favorite Mario brother and favorite mario character, luigi just explodes with personality, is shy like me, is caring, and so on.
