It actually serves as a mini tutorial, specifically to teach players to jump without having to put button prompts on the screen. It’s a tradition at this point.

The full-length quest in Mario Odyssey, utilizing the jump counter, has made it possible to play jumpless games, despite Nico's lazy decision to turn it into a full-length quest.
Even if Toadette doesn't count it it still looks and acts like a jump.
It doesn't count and I think nico is lazy because I know for a fact he's as least seen the thumbnail of gamemaster3000's mario Odyssey jump less video because that video was shoved down many people's throats back in 2018 and 19. @@AidanRatnage

9:25 I think this is possible with multiplayer since you can bounce on each others heads to get a power up that lets you gain height in midair. The whole game should be possible. (Same with Mario Wii)

For bowsers fury, there is a way to get a cat suit by getting 100 coins, but only in the earlier versions, as latest versions only give you mushrooms

Nothing multiplayer or 1 person controlling multiple characters should count. This should only be 1 player using regular controls.

You can point out that at the end of Super Mario Odyssey you can review your stats and one of those is Number of Jumps. Technically speaking the game can be beaten while having that number at 0. The game doesn't detect as Jumps towards that stat the following: First Jump to wake up, cappy jumps, jumping with almost every capture, hoping out of a tree or poles, and few other specifics to each world. Weirdly, talking to NPCs count as a Jump unless you talk to them in first person mode.

Nico, it's actually possible to beat Mario Odyssey without jumping. I saw another TH-camr finishing the game with the jump counter at 0. I challenge you to take it further by collecting 500 moons without jumping and then beat dark side and darker side jumpless.
Try them all again but with Multiplayer, you’ll find that you can get a lot farther with being able to pick people up and throw them, and then hopping in a bubble to travel
You can dive in SM64. Look up the A button challenge, you can do a lot without jumping.

Both Odesy and 3d world are fully beatable with jumping using multiplayer.

Fun fact the “jump” at the start of SMO Doesn’t actually count towards the games in game jump counter so technically it’s not a jump
10:24 Odyssey can be beaten without jumping. This "jump from knockout" and the "jump from knockout" in the Lost Kingdom doesn't count as a jump according to the game. Only the "jump from knockout" before the "Escape as Bowser" sequence counts as a normal jump, but you have to enter that moment in 2-player to launch Mario out of that state to move again. Also, any Cappy Capture Transformation "Jump" is also not a jump according to Toadette in the game. 0 Jumps is possible.
Hi, I'm an Italian, I wanted to tell you that in sm64 there is a way to enter the painting without making a jump. You will have to have a little luck to do it but it is doable. The way is as follows: you have to take a dive and as soon as you touch the ground click the jump button to get up quickly, if you do it at the right time you will be able to enter the painting. If for you diving is equivalent to jumping this method you won't need it.

Super Mario 64 is different in that jumping is defined by the a button. Diving and recovering from a dive with the b button does not count as a jump. But getting the star might stop you.
Does it stop the ABC Challenge? Most likely not (if you don't know, that's the group who tries to beat sm64 with as less a button presses as possible, it's a years long project)

You’ll barely make it through the first level in most of the games, jumping has always been a key component of the Mario franchise.

Absolutely untrue. Diving and flipping out of a dive isn't jumping, but it _does_ grant some height. It's already been proven that you CAN beat that game without jumping... but I'm unsure if it needs glitches. I don't _think_ it does, since the total number of A presses needed for a 100% run is about a dozen (and that includes A presses that don't jump, like when you hold the button to enable slope kicks).
there's 1 required A press in bowser in the fire sea for jumping off a pole.

Odyssey: After you get Cappy, is it possible never to jump? Does vaulting off of Cappy count as jumping?
Also some “jumps” like the first two times you have to jump to wake up Mario from being unconscious have a unique animation and trigger a cutscene the third and final time Mario just does a regular jump also you can skip the cappy getting kidnapped part in lost kingdom by just doing some very careful jumps.

Well, to be fair, 3D World could easily be completed jumpless with the 4 player function and the bubbles~
And Mario Odyssey has an in-game jump counter. And, fun fact: Jumping whist having captured something, say, a frog, doesn't count as a jump! The game's rules, not mine~ ;))
You can actually beat Super Mario 3D World without jumping; you just need to utilize the multiplayer mode. For basic jumps, you spawn a second player and make him/her throw the first player where they need to go and then make the second player bubble to the first player. You'll also need the Cat Suit for most of the run for climbing and scratching. You'll also need to use the touch screen for some parts of the run to interact with other things. AND PLEASE BEWARE of Fuzzy Time Mine.
You can also technically beat Super Mario Odyssey without jumping because the jump at the beginning doesn't count in the official jump counter as well as jumps performed while using captures. So if you use Cappy bounces, skip moons, and cheat the two-player mode, AND if you bounce off Cappy and talk to Toadette (who has the jump counter) while performing a ground pound in the air in the little frames where you can talk to her, you can TECHNICALLY beat the game with ZERO jumps

odyssey's jump at the beginning doesn't actually count as a jump. they have a jump counter at the end of the game and you can beat the entirety of super mario odyssey without jumping

The first “jump” in odyssey actually doesn’t count as a real jump, and neither does the second one. The third one does unless you use a second controller for cappy to jump for you. But odyssey, as well as Mario 64 are possible without jumping

You actually could get in the pipe in mario galaxy, you just had to spin next to the plants and let them hit you so you get launched on the pipe

For Sunshine, you apparently didn't run around on the title screen long enough: as glitch-hunter Grégoire P. discovered, running into the options side and immediately back out lets you start a game without jumping into any of the blocks! It only works if the memory card is out though, which means the Switch version is still stuck, but on any GameCube version, you can get pretty far without jumping, and if you allow wallkicks (which don't count as jumps in Odyssey) you can even get all 120 Shines!

In super Mario bros 2 USA I did a TAS to see how far you can go without jumping and I reached the semisolid after that pow block. I also did that in Real-time but it's still impossible :(.
Super Mario world was beaten by a TAS (it's hard to do in real time) in 5 jumps!
Super Mario 64 (enter in painting by doing dive-recover ez real-time) was beaten by humans in ~70 jumps and a TASer called Pannenkoek2012/UncommentatedPannen beated it TAS 120 stars in 13 A presses (jumps). On the Wii it was beated Any% in 0 A presses hurray!
You can beat NSMBWII really easy without jumping but you need 2P:
Pick up your friend and make him bounce on the Roomba then he will bounce on your head and activate the "? Block" so the propeller will come out and it's over. Instead of jumping shake the controller to fly easy peasy lemon squeasy!
For SMM2 I think that Luigi's parts could help you a bit more... I must check.

Gamechamp3000 actually beated Odyssey and 3D World without jumping
Pretty sure I've seen speedrunners sliding into portraits in Super mario 64. You get a slight bounce into the air when you enter the slide animation. It doesn't use the jump button so this doesn't count as a jump. You run, crouch and while you still have momentum press attack button to perform the slide. Bob-omb battlefield should be very doable once you're in.
In Mario Wii you could of used the Goomba's jumps during the "Bah "Bah" in the background

oh, if i remember, the first one starts with an RPG-style battle with Bowser, where your only attack is a JUMP attack, because you don't get a hammer until after Mario recovers from a big fall afterwards.
