So have you come back to the 2 amp setup? I get option paralysis from all your gain pedals that you have on the pedalboard, that is a bit insane if i'm totally honest. Late last month i finally bought a REAL tape delay, a used Echofix EF-2X. I bought it for synths and the guitar and its soooo much fun. I decided to sell a lot of delay pedals and kept a couple of the "essentials". I love using the EF-2X with my White Falcon into my 59 Bassman. Maybe it's time for you Joe to take the jump and get a proper tape echo?
I enjoy limiting myself to analog only as well. It keeps my GAS in check and its fun to repair things on my own if they break. Alwasy love these yearly walk throughs. Keep it up!
Holy smokes! That’s a lot. I would forget what switch goes where on the loops. I only have 5 pedals on a mini board. Tuner, envelope filter, phaser, analog delay, and clean boost into a dirty amp. That’s all I need.
Totally agree , i have a drawer with 20 pedals (RJM switcher) and some pedals are basically in the same category but they sound different and i play different too , never thought about that but its the reality , inspiration comes from your ears , btw nice video as always , regards from Phuket Thailand
Great board!Huge sounds! Really cool! What I love the most is that T-guitar. That pine grain is simply gorgeous! Enjoy in good health man. Happy new year!
What a pedalboard! Great choices and as always a great demonstration. Learned a few things thank you Joe. Agree with you the Kingsley Page is a desert island pedal it just works beautifully with any amp and guitar. Big fan of the Dr Z Wreck too.
Awesome build, probably my favorite tradition of the new year:) Biggest surprise is seeing Meet Maude kicked to the curb. All stellar choices though, I appreciate your passion for analog and attention to detail, Joe. Thanks for another great video!
@@JoePerkinsMusic Glad to know it's still in your collection. I purchased a second Shallow Water to use as the modulation in the loop of my delay, makes heavenly repeats, killed my desire for a tape delay:)
Happy New Year and best wishes, Perky, thank you for your huge contribution to our lives. I look forward to each year's pedal board video. My favourite pedal didn't make it on-board: the Tubesteader Sunkeeper but I can't pick any pedal to remove to make room. LOL, hauling your board to a gig would require quite a burly roadie with a large lorrie!
Thanks Bill! Aha the Sunkeeper is killer, though I tend to just crank my Orange head for those sorts of tones. I'll look for a Forklift to move it next year ;-)
I would probably put the buffer into loop and use it last for output tone consistency. But it changes the tone significantly so maybe I would keep searching for “less characterful buffer” or use reverb as my last in chain always on pedal “buffer” instead. Your first in the chain buffer will be any pedal you switch on first anyway. Or if you want tone consistency on input then occupy 2 loops with buffers. That unbuffered sound sounds so precious that I would hesitate to alter it. I use Blackbird as preamp and Mesa rack poweramp as poweramp so I am stuck to valve buffer (on preamp´s output) too, but you would not have to be. I will experiment with using always on LA-1A before Blackbird and if it will not alter the tone of Blackbird, I will keep it there and it wil be my first buffer. And because I always use reverb last in chain, which is Golden reverbeator, it is my third and last in chain buffer. Between Blackbird and Golden I use Maxon CS550 chorus to enhance stereo separation and thicken up the sound. Yes, it changes tone when on (and set for no chorus at all), so I tend to bypass it (it is true bypassable). So basically one or two effectrodes and Golden and other pedals in that path are true bypassable to preserve tone. Parallel path that starts after LA-1A contains several buffered bypass pedals so if I use both paths and mix them with buffered parallel mixer I loose tone after switching on parallel loop but I gain all the effects that parallel path has to offer. I usually play main path only. That magna vibe sounds very good. But I can live without it: my board is full and chorus / deco on parallel path has my modulation needs covered. But it is the one pedal I envy you;) There is a channel called “Effect your affect” with guy who has Magnatone and other stuff and it sounds wonderful.
Happy New Year, Joe! Love these videos. I know it’s been said before, but you are a monster rhythm player. Just a joy to hear you play. Keep rocking and can’t wait to see what 2024 holds for you!
Hi Joe. I just discover your channel and I love it like an analog man too. I´ve always playing with a tube amp (a plexi) but now I have an injury in my ears and I can't use a tube amp any more because the noise kill me. Now I´m playing with plugins, worse than a real amp but at least I can play. My question is... can you recommend me a tube pedal or something with tubes than it doesn't change the sound but add the tube touch to my signal to improve my digital plugins? Thanks!!! Sorry my bad English
Always look forward to your videos, especially about everything analog. As your board gained weight, looks like you have lost quite a bit. Looking good ...
Hi Joe. I really love your channel! I’m wondering, what are you doing for a reverb? I know you’ve reviewed SurfyBear and other spring reverbs before, but I don’t see one on this board. Am I missing it? So difficult to find a pedalboard-friendly analog reverb. The Anasounds is about it, but seems overpriced for what it is. Thoughts?
Happy new year. I'm very analog too, thus there's digital control on some devices (customized Triaxis, Swithblade GL, MoogerFoogers) and there are things where I can't consider analog, e.g I prefer plate verbs, but the EMT-140 is both too expensive and cumbersome... There is also no analog way to do Harmonizer and reverse delay... In terms of playing with other sounds, guitar-synthesizer is cool too... Especially when you have analog-synths, but you can use samples-banks and digital synths too... Have you tried the EHX Muff Germanium4? It's overlooked but I can barely have any old Ge fuzz sound I may want out of it... As a phaser, I'm totally addicted to the Moog MF-102. I also did stupid by hesitating and so not buying the last ModMachines KRP-1 Kraut Rock Phaser, which is a copy of the Schulte Kompakt Phazor A... It's the phaser doing the wosh on old Tangerine Dream, etc LPs, bu you can hear Ritchie Blackmore usng it on Rainbow's "On Stage" In terms of frequencies, the Klark Teknik DN3600 brings a double 30 bands analog programmable EQ... , you 'd need two Digitech MEC-28 to do the same job. Despite I own many amps, my go-to is my customized Marshall EL84-20/20. Speakers are EVM12L in TL806 cabs, and for alnico ones, WGS Blackhawk100 is the closest thing to an EVM12L I could find: EVM12SRO or Altec 417/cardboard-dome are unobtainium here.
Love the huge board but you got too many light drives that don't do a whole lot you could put more fun wildcard pedals on your board if you could cut down some of the redundant pedals
I wonder if that germanium section is working its best inside of the gigrig? I would be worried the guitar might need to go straight to the pedal for best results.
killer thing sounds stellar !! you could almost do wheigtlifting with it ^^ What made you change from the surfybear to the Z Verb? Tubes? How does the tone compare , I´m thinking about getting a tube reverb or a surfy reverb
Too bad! I'm from Vancouver Canada and I'm just traveling through the UK at the moment. Was hoping to catch a gig! Oh well keep up the good work anyway! Cheers☺

Hey Joe, first, Happy New Year. That was a nice way to start the year; a mug of good coffee and a walk through Joe's new 'board. Cheers.

What’s the Input Impedence of the Small Trees, do you know?
A pedalboard more expensive than That Pedal Show`s .......impressive. Great video, thanks for sharing.

👍🏿🤘Wonderful show Joe. It makes me think again what a dream show it would be to see you guesting on @ThatPedalShow with that board.
Feel free to suggest me to them :P
I wonder if that germanium section is working its best inside of the gigrig? I would be worried the guitar might need to go straight to the pedal for best results.
The loopers are completely true bypass, so they don't affect the sound whatsoever. Just need to turn the buffer pedal off 🙂
@@JoePerkinsMusic That is good to know. It sounds awesome!

Had the opportunity to buy the Z - it's a little more 'coloured' than the Surfy, but it feels a bit nicer to play...less of an 'effect'.
I find the attack time on the PC-2A to be set mid-transient, which is a dealbreaker for me as it can be thwappy.
You can adjust the attack & release with the trim pots inside the pedal :-)
I've alway enjoyed the riffs you come up with! Are you in a band? Do you have any gigs coming up?

Coincidence? I’m redoing my big board to do dream pop and shoegaze.
Looks cool but must be a pain to lug around and actually operate. I thought my pedalboard was big lol
Aha it's only a studio board - it never leaves here!
The tubes in the Magnezium don’t appear to be ‘cooking’/doing much …
OMG!

Less is more in my books. Jimi had a wah and two pedals. If you know how to dial in your amp you don't need that many pedals.
Also pedals are fun and cool.. Sure you can paint w 5 colors, but I'll take the 32 or 64 colors box of crayons.. why are you here po' boy?
