On the 13th December 2021 I was a part of LNER's inaugural service between London King's Cross and Middlesbrough! This is monumental for a number of reasons - all of which are discussed in this!
It was a pleasure being on-board this service and I'd like to thank LNER as well as Network Rail, Middlesbrough Council, Tees Valley Council and everybody involved for making this happen.
AAnndd it was also a pleasure meeting so many people on the journey! Thank you to those that spoke with me both on and off camera, it was genuinely appreciated!
For anyone wondering, a 'Parmo' is a Chicken Breast in breadcrumbs, deep-fried then topped with Béchamel Sauce and Cheese - a North East delicacy and originated in Middlesbrough! It's also referred to internationally as a "Chicken Parmi."

My dad went to school near Middlesbrough in the 50s and 60s, and his mind was blown to know there hadn't been a direct service to and from London for 30 years! Not that London is necessarily the centre of the universe, but it's about time.
When scrubbing up on my research it came to my attention that Middlesbrough was one of the largest towns in England to not have a direct London connection 🤯 I couldn't properly verify it so had to cut it out!
@@itsmattnelson I looked into this awhile ago, and it was between Middlesbrough and Bradford, but now both have a direct service (LNER and Grand Central, respectively). I don't know which city is the current largest city without a direct London service. Maybe Southport, Scarborough or Grimsby.
Edit: Nevermind, it's Bolton.

Thanks for a great non-running video. I'm glad you made it personal. I thought I remembered you said in a prior video that you're from Middlesbrough, so this is a great option for you to visit home. Maybe one day you can run the stations in Teesside (if feasible).

Thank you Dave! Yeah it's all happening at the min with COVID isn't it?! Hopefully things will die down in due course.
With the seats, it's from my understanding they're made to meet current fire safety standards as opposed to the older style of seats with more cushioning. I usually go for a little walk around the train to stretch my legs a bit!

LNER are to bring out a new service to Huddersfield. But it’s great to have Middlesbrough on the LNER network. Maybe they could add Scarborough from Spring or Summer next year.
In a parallel universe I’d love to see Whitby with a London service as well!

It's something different from a non-running video! I doubt it'll be a regular thing as I enjoy running while talking about rail/history things and I don't want to step on anyone's toes in the creative space lol.
Middlesbrough was where I was born and raised so I wanted to make this video as more of a personal thing for me though I also wanted to talk about the importance of rail investment into the North East of England ♥️

Went through boro station last week its still a disgrace.. done nothing. Apart from platform extension on platform 2 really needs a platform 3 and those awful concrete pillows removing and go with the victorian original posts so it matches the rest of the station
