    That poor hutch was so filthy and now look at it...magnificient! The color is delightful and I'm so glad you left all the marks of life on it instead of making it pristine. The chair literally needed that trim, too like a breath of fresh air. An idea for the corner, maybe a unique table with a photo array? Loved the recipes at the end! 😊 Great video/tutorial as always! Love it!

    Love the hutch.. salmon patties, canned salmon. An egg, little salt, 1 squirt of frenches mustard ( u won't taste it) ¼ grated onion, pinch of flour or cornmeal. Lightly mix . 1 sleeve of crushed saltiness. Make patties into size u like( i make like small hamburger) press each pattie into saltines, this will soak up any liquid. Fry on each side intil golden brown. Ive made these for years. People who wont touch salmon love them. People whove eaten them elsewhere say theyre the best. My husband loves to eat them at room temp.. i hv to agree after trying it. Seems ya dont taste the hot oil as much😋

    I literally LOL’d when you did your “center measurement” and hammered in the nail as that is EXACTLY our household! Hubby would have had a Level and tape measure and taken about 30 min. The only difference is you actually used a hammer. I used a GLASS (solid) ‘fortune telling’ ball to hammer a nail in one time after I eyeballed the center of the wall.
    ANNNNNDDD BUSTED…..in walks hubby and just gives me the hairy eyeball….goes and gets the level, hammer, ‘proper nail’ whatever THAT means? A nail is a nail. Take 20 min measuring it and marking etc etc…..
    Guess where the hole went? YEP……EXACTLY WHERE MY “wrong” nail went.
    He was absolutely QUIET for the remainder of the day and hasn’t said a word since.
    I even asked him to hand me the hammer the other day as I was hanging up the kitchen pictures above the sink after our kitchen reno and he went and got the Glass Ball and handed it to me without saying a word and smiled and walked out of the kitchen.
    WINNING! HAHAHAHA!
    Gotta love that man!❤❤❤❤❤

    As a designer I would like to share my opinion that your blue chair should be moved out a little more out from the corner and not so angled bringing it out and closer to the cabinet. Having your chair more in front of your window with the back of your chair. Still angles but “not” so angle as having it at a 45• angle as it looks to be right now. Your lamp is way too close to the corner walls and your curtains. It wouldn’t be very good for your curtains to catch fire from the heat of your lamp. Otherwise your colors and placements of your decor is right on but will look even better and more professional as you have spent many hours recreating some beautiful pieces.

    In the corner to the Right of the Hutch….what about a small round table and two smaller arm chairs and make it a Chess Table or small Games Table? Finding two wood chairs that match and maintain some of the wood yet adding that green as a touch here and there like on the legs or arms depending on what you find and then the table you could actually paint the Chess Board ON the table so it could be Chess or Checkers or have a Felt rolled out for Backgammon? Just a thought and good luck if u do find something like that then at least it is a useable space for the kids too and who knows…..you could have a little Bobby Chess Champ??? ❤❤❤❤❤

    Better to hang the shell mirror a few inches higher above the hutch. Your shiny hair is beautiful, and a great cut.

    Like you, I could immediately see the beautiful bones and style of this Mahogany chest. It is beautiful but someone did not take care of it. I'm so happy with how you turned it around, beautiful and I adore the color.

    The black is likely from gas lamps. I saw that on my grandmother's furniture and that's what people said it was. A detail in it's design indicates it is at least 85-90 years old and maybe much much older. My grandparents were married in 1917. Yes they were my grandparents and not my great-grandparents. If they got new furniture when they got married, that indicates how old it is. The beading, if that's what you call it, between the drawers and cabinets, is like what was on my grandparents' sideboard. The curved shape of the drawers is on the secretary desk, so popular at least since the 1930's.
    Please excuse me for saying so, but it pains me to see you cover that hutch with paint rather than refinishing it. It really only needed cleaning. That wood was beautiful!

      @DesertDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the info. It was missing large chunks of veneer on the drawers and along the sides.

    A great (and very affordable!) makeover. I really enjoyed your video. I understand that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a form of Epstein-Barr, and research showed a common denominator among people who suffered from this was that many were active get-it-done people who often worked with strippers, paints, solvents, etc. So, suiting up and wearing a respirator is a good idea! Subscribed, and looking forward to more content. 😊

    I've been following you for a number of years now. I remember watching you refinish your furniture pieces right on the driveway at your old house in Arizona. Flip flops and a tank top! It breaks my heart to see what lengths you have to go to now so can do what you love. But that's just it I guess, you love it so much, you're willing to facev g t😊

    Oh Blue Willow from England! My mother had a few pieces she actually brught from England. She was born in Scotland but moved to England after married then they came to USA. Do you know the story. Supposedly the willow tree cries for the lovers that were kept apart. They were so sad they turned into birds to fly away together. Probably more details than that but thats the gist of it. You can see that story on the dishes.

    I think the hutch looked like it could have had a little mold on it. Along with other things. I use Dawn Powerwash for things in the house. I didn’t realize you could use it on furniture. I don’t like salmon. My husband loves it. And I don’t like raisins. So probably wouldn’t have tried the recipes. That the kind of papers my mom used to keep. Everything turned out great. I have a Bissell little green machine too. And watching you clean the chair reminds me that I need to clean our chair too.

    • @DesertDIY
      @DesertDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it did have some white mold starting to grow on it from the humidity here. Thankfully that type is easy to clean off. Only use dawn power wash on things that need degreasing. How neat that your mom kept the same type of recipes. Thank you so much for watching and I enjoy your clean chair!
