The headboard is from the late 1920’s-early 1930’s. The reeding and florals are what is called spoon pressed while the wood was wet. Then it was dried and looks like it’s carved.
Obviously I’m playing catch up on your videos. I love your vision of changing the headboard to a chalk board. I think the piece is old, and in the early 1900’s there were a lot of artisans who hand-carved pieces for furniture companies. Really it’s a beautiful piece and I’m so pleased by your creativity and vision for turning it into something you can use! Where others would just see something useless you had a vision of what it could be. Love it.
Hey Cory, thank you for being so real and comical😊you’re so right about the mirror and how some projects look easy and then reality hits you like “now what?” Feeling. Anyway, you inspire me to keep going even when I feel like I made a mistake in my thrift shopping. I’ve been watching you since you started doing furniture flips for kids who were aging out of foster homes and I think you’re great and you’re receiving tons of blessings in the process! So happy for you and your family! Keep the content and ideas coming🎉❤
Thank you so much I am so glad that you have found inspiration from my channel. I hope to get back to helping foster children but I am waiting for organizations to agree to let me help. So strange how hard it's been to help here in houston
Yes, sometimes it’s just the bureaucracy. Well, bless you and your family for continuing to try and for giving us inspiration that we can do it too😊love your channel…all the way from New Jersey/New York! 😊
I grew up in a totally 70's house. Burnt Orange, avocado green, earth brown. I loathe orange because my mother had a bright orange Naugahyde sofa (shudder) and I still can't stand most greens except outside. I have a collection of tiny houses that I love still.
I like both Christmas styles so I decorate every room differently. My dinning room is traditional, a nutcracker theme. My living room is in blues, and silver more modern. My sunroom has a woodland theme. My staircase is always traditional with greenery, some fake and some real. I use magnolia leaves and evergreens from the property as well as red apples and red beads, that symbolize cranberries. I like to decorate each room to have its own personality. So glad you are having a blast at that store. Good finds! I can't wait to see the room transformation!
Those planters are awesome, Cory! They definitely work for all seasons. Anything that can stay out all year is my favorite kind of decor. The mirror is awesome, too, but now I'm nervous to watch your next vid for the lift! Wish I could join the challenge this time. I'll keep my eyes open for a piece 🤞🏻 PS yup, love the 90s!
I love Vintage Christmas from the 50's and 60's . I did a pink Christmas last year it , it went well with my sage green walls and I splurged for a Balsam Hill tree. I love anything whimsy, I do love traditional Christmas colors as well.
A lot of mass produced is hand carved or hand done. Like clothing it's still individuals sewing at machines. Many craftsman with certain tools learn to do that fast. The difference may be one person does all the top piece with flowers and so on and assemblers will glue it up. I love what you did with the headboard. We have similar green on wall but color a bit more gray and white trim. We need headboarr as our king bed is partially on 2 windows.
One thing I have seen other DIYers do when securing with E6000 is to add some hot glue to give extra adhesion that is instant and you don’t have to wait so long for the E6000 to dry. Good job using thst Shellac before painting! It seals the porosity of the wood so it won’t “bleed” into the paint.
Great score on those heirloom pieces. Looking forward to your room reveal. Agree completely about embracing one's own yard and property. Blooming Where You're Planted.....makes all the difference in the world. :)
I think that I like eclectic Christmas decor - things from the 40’s onwards and from different countries. Lots of family memories. But I like decorating in little vignettes so it doesn’t become overwhelming. I love how you use your hutch for seasonal decor❤
I am so scent sensitive, thank you for sharing the info on the odors of products! Love all the projects, having lived in Louisiana and now Florida I feel ya on the humidity adjustments! Become a massive rub n buff fan as of late, shine on
Seashells are great, in a clear vase to support flowers. I just think they’re pretty and a clear vase. You can use them in a ceramic vase or any type really, but they’re great at helping to hold flowers in the correct space and being seashells the water doesn’t affect them. Love the chalk board in fact loved everything! Thank you.
I don't usually like sparkle but I have seen people do pieces that are beautiful with a bit of glam. Love the chalk board it looks really nice. Small stands are a great find. Looking forward to see your room completed. 😊
Hi Cory, Wow you found some awesome goodies! Can’t wait to see them all done and in there new home. I’m one that cannot get into trends for Christmas, I love pulling out things I’ve had for ages and mixing a few new things, homemade items and just grouping it all in cute little settings, not sure what my style is 😂. I do know that “Red” HAS got to be in my deco, even if it’s spots here n there. Lol Red is just soooooo Christmas!! I love your videos, you always make me happy watching them. God Bless sweet girl. ❤
Dang girl…you are sooo good at cutting in and painting on carpet! I can’t paint anything without getting paint all over me and the floor! And you really lucked up finding those end tables! Your box of cottages look like David Winter cottages…there should be a label on the bottom of them. I have two that I purchased in Germany when we lived there back in the 80s. You should check them out before you sell them (saw where a lady ask how much you would sell them for). You are sooo good at thrifting and making it all look so high end Cory! I know your sparkly night stand will look fabulous and I love sparkles!! 🥰🥰🥰
Love how the mirror turned out! What a great deal on the two side tables!! I hope the clock works! It's such a lovely color and style! Can't wait for the next video for this room!! Really excited ft watch the next challenge!!
Those little houses are similar to a Christmas that I have that’s probably 35 years old. I wouldn’t paint the houses either and I’m known for painting everything.
Definitely the more traditional old school style! My millennial kids expect it and it makes a cozy holiday season. ❤️💚❤️ P.S. I just found your channel and love it! 😊 I’ll stay tuned.
Love your story of the headboard parking lot scene of you cutting off the legs so it fits in your vehicle!!I would so do that! Oh the life of a furniture flipper! Sometimes we look ridiculous 😂
Yay an ugly duckling challenge. As for Christmas decorations, I like primitive. A lot of natural elements like wood, bark moss feathers and popcorn. Woodland creatures. Not rustic country though. No galvanized metal. I have a real fur for the sofa and around the tree for the winter passed down from many moons ago. It's a native American thing
.Traditional for me all the way with Christmas period and I'm not really into sparkly stuff but I am really curious to see what people will come up with. Sounds like fun!
Cut the moldy paper away from the back of the mirror and throw it in the trash. Replace it with the Poster Board from Dollar Tree. I love those houses. I had some of them and 2 expensive ones I received as gifts that I cherished, sadly they got lost when I moved from Georgia😢
Your style is so different than mine, but I still come back to watch! It will be fun to see your finished room. Loved the green on the chalkboard-thingy. Fun challenge!
I think every wood piece of furniture or item in this house I have painted I think there’s two pieces one was an original table from I guess it’s an end table from Mexico. It was my grandmother’s. I kept that original. It’s beautiful it’s really antique it’s got like a medallion top, it’s an octagon shape and it just holds the Tiffany lamp on there and whatever else I’m gonna put..
Hi, great video. If you you would put some old English furniture polish in liquid in the bottle, he will be on a high sheen on your nightstands it also covers scratch Mark's on your furniture.
I always prefer old school (traditional) Christmas. Just use TiteBond glue for total adherence. Use a glue gun to set down your pieces (shells/molds) & that will stick immediately. The TiteBond will hold it forever. It doesn't smell at all and bonds REALLY well to wood and 'other' materials. Yay to the Ugly Duckling Challenge, I will gladly participate. 🥰
For the sparkle flip project I think your dresser would look great with a faux marble top! Theres lots of great sparkle counter top options and I think diy creating a faux marble top using resin, glitter and/or paints would be great.
So you know, sometimes people put little wooden boxes or something on the coffee table to like store the remote or you know a pair of glasses or a pin? I found this cute little basket that I was going to use for harvesting but it’s kind of small cause I do grow I have a garden, but I thought that would be the perfect basket to put the remote and you know the pen or whatever I need on the living room coffee table and when my grandbaby comes, I just pick it up since on the handles and move it to the dining table. I’ve had it for years and I actually love it it’s just Little wicker small basket 💜
I had the same experience with JB Weld! Very disappointing. E6000 is definitely my go-to heavy duty adhesive. Your mirror came out adorable! You have a good eye!
When you bring out the tools I get lost because I don’t have the tools or knowledge to do that work. I wish I did. But I love your easy DIYs and doing Goodwill shopping. ❤
I live here in Houston as well I’m really close to the downtown but my house is historic 1925. It’s very small it’s like 900 square-foot so I don’t have a lot of room as far as floor plan but I use my walls so I have cabinets on my walls things that are on my walls to put my decorations, which is a lot of our antiques from my mother and grandmother, but I do three or four antiques as well, and I also like the oldprimitive style
I love your finds, especially the adorable clock! I look forward to seeing your livingroom makeover and also love French country. Are you and your husband self taught in refinishing and DIYing? You really inspire me to try refinishing a piece but I have no experience. Tfs ❤
Thank you Shelly. We both grew up working a lot with our hands and from there we were self taught. I recommend starting small. Get you tools from yard sales or harbor freight to save $$
Wow, you really scored with those little Baker chests! Are they Historic Charleston repros? I really love the Chinese Chippendale fretwork near the tops. Three years ago, I found a Baker Historic Charleston TV armoire for less than $150. That thing is massive. The mahogany is gorgeous, and it now holds my fabric stash. At that time the TV armoire was bring about $2,400 online. I call it my "second best" find ever. (Absolute best was an eight foot beveled floor mirror in a gilded wood frame for $50) Can't wait for the next video. Your living room will be gorgeous!
*I like old school Christmas 🎄 decor - leaning more towards Victorian or even primitive woodland types with pinecones, twigs, bird's nests and wooden ornaments, like stars. I'm crazy over the old glass ornaments, mercury glass, lace and old brooches, pearls and jewelry made into ornaments. I prefer pinks, soft blues, lavender, ivory, gold, rose gold, olive greens, burgundy, and browns (in the primitive style), etc. over traditional Christmas 🎄 reds and greens.* *If you home school, or your kids like to draw with chalk, I would turn the other rectangular piece of the headboard into another chalkboard for your home school room or your kid's playroom for them to do lessons and exercise their creativity. 🤎👍🏼*
@@DesertDIY *Thank you, Cory❣️ I like old things. I guess I would call my style a combination of Traditional and Cottage Core (Granny Chic). 🤣 My parents were Antique Dealers and their love for old things definitely rubbed off on me, LOL‼️😁* *I'm glad you like my idea for using the rest of the headboard as a chalkboard for your kiddos...I figured they aren't that tall (yet) and would enjoy being able to reach to (almost) the top (depending upon the child) with their artistry and feel accomplished filling up the entire board with their drawings. 😀 I remember feeling overwhelmed, as a child, looking at that HUGE board at school. 😔🤪 Meeting a child's psychological needs is important, too. 😊*
How awesome to get the little tables. Maybe that area is more expensive because there is higher end finds. Luv your thrift finds and how you used them. I might be able to get in the challenge, have to have a brainstorm session and see if I can fit it in this month.
Me and my husband are always picking up on the side of the road believe me I have found some gyms in the HEIGHTS area like antique cabinets that had the wavy glass or bookshelves and actually I held onto them for so long is my house is so small. I had a garage garage sale and I bundled all that picked it up for Free cleaned it up, just so you know make it real pretty and then one day I had a garage sale and I said I’m gonna sell it because it’s just sitting here. My kids didn’t want it and I thought it was beautiful. It had wheels on it but I sold a few things as a bundle for $30. I didn’t want it to come back in and take up space
I used to prefer old school Christmas decor, but those cozie, wintry themes just don't work very well here in Queensland Australia. Our Christmas is in summer, so the modern themes work better for me.
I personally think that those Christmas decor items that you found were absolutely beautiful and I like the linsical style and I think that there's so much more fun and beautiful than all the decor that they call Christmas decor these days.
I'm somewhat new to this channel. Why do you have a formal dining room and a formal living room? I remember my grand parents having a formal living room. No children were allowed in there. As I got older I was allowed in there yet younger cousins weren't. Beautiful Antiques. This room was beautiful and calming. I don't recall if that room was ever really used. One might think of this room as the stereotypical Asian decor. I'm second generation on my grandmother's side in the USA. 50% Chinese. Yes it was a gorgeous room, yet not used. Their house was big. I have a tough time with the concept of formal areas and everyday living areas. I'm not here to judge or be judged. I'm curious.

I have kept my same Christmas decorations from 35 years ago. I buy new to add each year to keep it cute . I love old school of course!
I love a old time Christmas with the red and green!!!!!!!!!
I love the old style Christmas decor. I mix my Christmas decor - old and new, traditional and modern...............it works for me❤
Love that!
Ten years ago Christmas had more meaning than today. Its too commercial now. Love the old decorations.

I love the sea shells especially the purple ones. I can’t wait to see the transformation of the living room.

The clock movement is easy and inexpensive to replace. I’ve made clocks out of charger plates…whatever I like.
Love the vintage Christmas
Those little houses are similar to a Christmas that I have that’s probably 35 years old. I wouldn’t paint the houses either and I’m known for painting everything.
I used caulk to attach the shells, it also fills in the spaces.
Oh wow I would've never thought of that
I separate the shells by type and construct my project. Otherwise I get bad headache and return later. Looking good👍
Haha yes!
Definitely the more traditional old school style! My millennial kids expect it and it makes a cozy holiday season. ❤️💚❤️ P.S. I just found your channel and love it! 😊 I’ll stay tuned.

I love the clock. Yes Ciry the house tags were target dollar spot😮

I love 1950s vintage Christmas
Love all your furniture choices 😊
Love this video. I think the little houses will look lovely in the green shelves. That was a great find xx
Thank you Sharon!
I’m one of those ladies who says don’t paint, but I actually find your palette choice soothing. Brava!
Also you could take some of the nicest shells and mount in a shadowbox or two or three.
Cool idea!
Your style is so different than mine, but I still come back to watch! It will be fun to see your finished room. Loved the green on the chalkboard-thingy. Fun challenge!

Thank you so much
I love the old school christmas decor.
Me too
I made a seashell mirror like that and used hot glue. It worked great.
PS: you could put the leftover shells in a pretty glass jar or dish and display them.
Did it hold up well to seasonal temp changes?
@@DesertDIYyes, and I had it outside on my covered back porch for years. Shells are still firmly attached.
Can’t wait for the reveal of the finished project. I know it will be awesome.
I sure hope so! Thank you so much

@@DesertDIY *Thank you, Cory❣️ I like old things. I guess I would call my style a combination of Traditional and Cottage Core (Granny Chic). 🤣 My parents were Antique Dealers and their love for old things definitely rubbed off on me, LOL‼️😁*
*I'm glad you like my idea for using the rest of the headboard as a chalkboard for your kiddos...I figured they aren't that tall (yet) and would enjoy being able to reach to (almost) the top (depending upon the child) with their artistry and feel accomplished filling up the entire board with their drawings.
Thank you Dar! I sure hope you get to participate
I'll have to check out the heights more often
I used to prefer old school Christmas decor, but those cozie, wintry themes just don't work very well here in Queensland Australia. Our Christmas is in summer, so the modern themes work better for me.
I can see why you'd feel that way!
I love the old Laura Ashley that was made in France. It’s so much better quality.
I love it all
Antique version of Christmas
Ditto
Love that!
I personally think that those Christmas decor items that you found were absolutely beautiful and I like the linsical style and I think that there's so much more fun and beautiful than all the decor that they call Christmas decor these days.
Thank you, I agree
Love these! ❤
You have STUNNING taste and you are very skilled.
Thank you so much
An antique is a piece over 50 years old, which makes your headboard an antique
I prefer vintage Christmas decor. I have a really big mirror that I used the IOD sea shell mold. I haven’t finished it a year after starting it!🙄
Me too. And here is your encouragement to finish that project 😀
I once had a dresser that was bla ck with gold vertical stripes..
That sounds cool
Thanks for the video!
