      Ok, in that case, I recommend investigating the root causes of your acne, such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors (air & water quality, washing detergent, etc), or your diet (such as consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerance; like soy, milk, bread (gluten), eggs, chicken, etc).

    Hello!☺️ I am planning on buying this gel and was wondering if it would work well in this routine:
    1. Cerave blemish control cleanser
    2. Cerave blemish control gel
    3. Cerave facial moisturising lotion PM in the evening and Cerave facial moisturising lotion SPF 30 or 50 in the morning
    I have combination skin with clogged pores, red spots and pimples in the T-zone😊

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

      Hey! :) Hm...the order of application looks good, and it could work. However, depending on how your skin responds-sensitivity-wise-and the frequency of use, using the cleanser and gel in the same routine could also cause sensitivities and/or irritations. So, in that case, it may be best to use a non-exfoliating acid cleanser when using the gel. As for your breakouts, you probably want to look into the root cause, which could stem from stress, lack of sleep, or (as for me) diet. If you figure out what causes your breakouts in the first place, you can control it much better. See here: www.youtube.com/@MelissaVanDijkOfficial/community

      Now, based on my experience over the months, I would recommend that you alternate days with the gel and the cleanser, unless you are only planning to do this 3-4 times per week.
      Otherwise, I would do:
      PM1:
      Oil cleanser
      CeraVe blemish control cleanser
      Anua toner
      Snail mucin
      Beauty of Joseon glow serum (propolis + niacinamide)
      Final step moisturizer (optional, not necessarily needed)
      PM2:
      Oil cleanser
      Regular foaming cleanser (e.g., CeraVe foaming cleanser)
      Pat dry

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

      Hmm, all of these products can be quite drying. I suggest using them on alternate days. Additionally, consider incorporating a milder gel-to-foam cleanser, such as Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser or Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser, to alternate with the Cerave Blemish Control Cleanser.
      Morning routine:
      Clean your face with Cerave Blemish Control Cleanser (test it daily, and if it's too harsh, switch to every other day).
      Pat your skin dry.
      Apply sunscreen if you'll be exposed to the sun.
      Evening routine:
      Clean your face with one of the suggested milder cleansers.
      Pat your skin dry.
      Apply the gel or the retinol serum, alternating between them each day.
      See how this routine works for you. If it feels too intense, reduce the frequency; if not, continue as planned. If you find your skin too dry, you might want to add a hydrating product like Vichy Mineral 89 Hyaluronic Acid Serum after the gel or before the retinol.

      Well, technically, they don't conflict. However, in practice, regularly using both can indeed lead to irritation, as the skin can become sensitive and you may experience issues. • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  ปีที่แล้ว

      For how long have you been using the Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser, and how often? You need to adjust the frequency for it, so generally, it is advised to start with every other day for the first two weeks or so and then gradually increase the frequency to once daily if tolerated. Also, which CeraVe moisturizer did you use? And do you have oily skin?

      @@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I’ve been using it every night for the past 3 or so months. I use the cereve hydrating lotion, i used to have quite normal looking skin when I was using neutrogena salicylic acid cleanser and moisturizer but i believe my skin barrier is stripped as it seems “shiny” and feels more sensitive since I’ve used the benzoyl peroxide cleanser.
      I think it’s because I have sensitive skin and benzoyl peroxide is too harsh for my skin type so do you think I should switch to a gentle cleanser or salysilic acid cleanser and/or spot treat with salysilic acid gel?
      Also just fyi, the acne I get tends to be mild blackheads on my nose, whiteheads and closed bumps on my forehead and chin areas that can lead to bigger inflamed whiteheads

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@meadow_equestrian07 That is way too much; if you use it that often, it is normal for your skin to become sensitive, so it needs some time to recover.
      However, salicylic acid cleansers aren't as aggressive on the skin. Nonetheless, you should not overdo it with these cleansers either. The guide I shared above would still be accurate for an SA cleanser as well.
      You could use the SA cleanser once a day and another gentle foaming cleanser also once per day. Then follow it with SPF suitable for your skin type during the day if you have sun exposure, and in the evening, use a light gel-type moisturizer or a hydrating serum, such as a hyaluronic acid serum.

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

      Yes, benzoyl peroxide can exfoliate the skin to some extent. It breaks down the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to be shed from the skin's surface. This can improve the appearance of acne by unclogging pores and preventing new pimples from forming.
      From my experience as an over-the-counter treatment, retinol or a retinoid works best for hyperpigmentation. Or maybe an Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) serum.

    hi there!
    i bought it yesterday and used it in the evening, just washing face with Cerave product + applied this gel on my face, exactly like you showed on your video: small amount, avoided eye area. and yet today i woke up with swollen eyes like i would cry the whole night before. i guess i am allergic to it or i did something wrong? :(

      Hey! :)
      Is this your first time using skincare products with exfoliating acids, especially Salicylic Acid? If it is, you might be experiencing an allergic reaction to it or one of the other ingredients.

    Hi melissa! I was wondering if you can use the blemish control gel along with la roche's effeclaur duo??

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't recommend doing that because the Effaclar Duo also contains Salicylic Acid. Therefore, it may become too potent over time. So, my suggestion would be to use them on alternate days in your evening skincare routine for balance.

      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial Got it!! Thank you so much🫶 Then can I use the blemish control gel along with the ordinary's glycolic acid toner?

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@readerr0_0 No, use either one of them or alternate between them because both exfoliate the skin, which can lead to sensitivities when using them together or overusing them in general. I've talked about it at 1:51

      @@readerr0_0 The Effaclar DUO also contains salicylic acid, so either use CeraVe Blemish Control gel or LRP Effaclar DUO. Alternate between one of them and your glycolic acid toner.
