    Your other videos inspired me to finally pull the trigger on 3d printing and decided to pick up a P1S + AMS combo about a month ago. Its been an amazing experience because all I wanted was a tool for designing and printing functional prints. Your entire video perfectly sums up my experience with the printer and as a beginner to 3d printing I would say you cant go wrong with either of these bad boys.

    As an owner of the P1S who has often wondered what I gave up by not getting the X1C, this video was great. It was nice to see someone who initially made the same decision for the same reasons and then later got to try the X1C. I also really liked the controlling multiple printers suggestion you made to Bambu.

    I think anyone who had to play with both p1s and x1c at the same time would inevitably get spoiled by quality-of-life improvements x1c brings to the table. If some extra feature is available, why not use it -- and, by using it, you get hooked until you cannot imagine is your life without said feature. If you have only a P1S without x1c to spoil you, I believe it is quite easy to adjust the workflow accordingly and make it almost as efficient. For instance, that small screen on P1S is much less of a hindrance if you don't use it at all after the initial setup (which is very possible). P1S also has one unexpected advantage over X1C that most reviewers forget to mention -- being encased in plastic instead of aluminium, it should be able to maintain chamber temperature more easily because plastic is much less thermoconductive. Ironically, it would make P1S more suitable for printing warp-prone materials than X1C. And of course, changing the nozzle and the gear on P1S to hardened steel version is a no-brainer, considering the price.

    Man, i just got the a1 mini and have really been enjoying it. Great timing on this video and totally agree that its just a tool now rather than a gimmick or tinker hobby (in the sense of just fiddling with the printer rather than just printing)

  • @JeffArtz
    @JeffArtz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    @14:40 - The reason for the differences in the video from the printers is that the X1C has a multi-core Linux computer (similar to a Raspberry Pi) as the controller, so it can do full-motion video. The P1S has a much slower ESP32 Microcontroller (no Linux) which can only do photo snapshots.
    But the slower processor doesn't really affect the print speed or quality, as the controller is just feeding the movement commands to the motion controller. For that reason, the P1S is just as fast as the X1C.

    @23:10 - You can do the "Omit Objects" with the P1S also through the Bambu Handy phone app. (I have both an X1C and P1S)

    The P1P was my introduction to the 3D printing world. This machine has been AMAZING (out-of-the-box, plug n play). The largest learning-curve was performing maintenance. Thank God for the endless source of information on YT. As a proprietary machine, Bambu Lab has excellent support and very reasonably priced parts and upgrades. And they nailed the aesthetics. This is one fine-looking machine. Over-all, this is one of the most satisfying purchases ever made. Personally, I would recommend the A1 Mini to anyone on a budget or new to 3D printing; it's a less expensive way to test the water. However, I would totally go with the P1S simply because it provides more options and has a much more conformed and sleeker design. Both machines are different but top-notch, imho. If looking to use the printer for parts, tools, et. the AMS is not even necessary. 95% of what I print is single color anyway, adding a needless expense. I don't even feel that having the multi-colored capability would even be worth it.

    • @MisterkeTube
      @MisterkeTube 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I don't print multicolor, but the AMS is totally worth it. Just being able to print any of the loaded materials and have seamless filament continuation when a role runs out by just having another role of the same material in the AMS is worth more than multicolor capability.

    Both are available in a combo version, with the difference that the P1S combo is about €600 cheaper then the X1C.
    Almost all the benefits the X1C has, can sort of be integrated into the P1S, but for a way lower price.
    - Panda Touch, a touchscreen that can control over 10 Bambu Lab printers, and which also lets you graphically control the AMS unit on the P1S for just €50.
    - Hardened steel nozzle for €20.
    - Hardened steel gears for €20.
    And you almost have a X1C for just €100 more instead of €600 more.
    Only features that stay is the Lidar and the AI (with the slightly better camera).
    The Lidar is just a gimmick that scans the first testing grid for calibration. If it's unable to scan the calibration pattern, then it automatically falls back to the calibrated flowrate value, which already does a decent job on it's own with a verry fast and simple manual calibration. Which actually makes Lider a little bit obsolete. I even wouldn't be surprised that we won't see it back on a P1S/X1C follow up.
    Makes it only missing the AI functionality, which might be a handy feature, but I don't think that's worth €500.

  • @Ninjastahr

    To me the x1c is worth it, because I hit go and I can trust that it will stop itself if it fails while I'm sleeping. Also being able to watch a higher res stream from the printer is nice.

    Welcome to the bambu labs side, I was an early bird Kickstarter backer for an x1c with ams.
    I will eventually get a p1s as a second single filament printer but wouldn't trade my x1c ams.
    I found issues with the cardboard spools getting stuck in the ams even with the plastic rails.
    There are printable adapter cores from the cardboard spools to the bambu refill spools where you remove the cardboard sides press in the core and assemble as if it were a refill. Those worked pretty good.
    I ended up going with direct orders of master spools and refills from sunlu. Its basically the easiest and least expensive/wasteful option i have found for black petg.

    It's so nice to see someone that uses the machines for practical items instead of the incredible amount of landfill we constantly see. I am just about to push the button on the P1S after testing and using the A1 Mini for 6 months, which really is just a case of sending the print without wasting time on tinkering. Also the quality I have achieved has far exceeded anything I had seen from many other machines, some costing far more than the A1 Mini. Im gonna have to watch this video a few times to fully understand how your achieving those examples of using the ams for things such as your logo etc, its a great solution especially when you want to reduce wastage but provide a really professional result. Both of your examples are excellent. Thanks for this review it really has been helpful. Oh one other thing did you know that the Bambu Lab app can act as a central control for multiple printers also there is the Bigtreetech Panda Touch which is a mobile touch screen allowing control of many Bambu printers. I actually purchased a unit from aliexpress and it works brilliantly I paid £45 so roughly $90Aus -)

    Like you, I came from Enderland and enoyed every minute of it. But I came into a little cash and decided to see what all the Bambu hubhub was about.
    I put one toe in the water by getting the A1mini. I'd see how I liked their ecosystem. If I liked it, I'd order one of the big guys. I love that little A1mini!
    So I had to decide whether to go with the P1S or the X1Carbon. The P1S was sooo much cheaper than the X1C and only lacked things I didn't feel like I needed anyhow, and if I decided to get an AMS, I could retro-fit it.
    I love the P1S! I still don't know that I care enough about multi-filament types and colors to order the AMS add on.
    So... except for the lame LCD monitor on the P1S, I'm very happy and saved a lot of money. If I decide to buy another printer, I'll probably get the P1S again.
    In the meantime, maybe they'll come out with a "P1S Plus", a P1S with the X1C monitor for a couple hundred more bucks (US).

      Customer service of Bambu Lab is really bad yes. It's like talking to some kind of shady Aliexpress seller.
      I had received my first P1S unit with factory damage all over. Scratches, dents, bend screen connectors etc. Contacted customer support and they just acted like they didn't cared. And they were not offering any solutions nor compensations. You really need to bite off of you, otherwise they will do nothing if they don't feel you're serious about it. You need to make some clear demands to them. Like I want my money back or I want to have a replacement. Otherwise they won't do anything.
      After returning the first unit I got a replacement, but had to refuse it at the door since the box was already heavily damaged from transport. I didn't wanted all the Bambu Lab communications anymore, as you're taling against a wall. So I just refused the parcel, just letting them argue about the damage and whose fault it is with the carrier.
      The 3th unit I've received has mechanical issues on badly calibrated axes. They already wanted me to disconnect the Z-axes and going to tinker on a 1 week old €1000 machine myself, while it should be just a well working and calibrated machine straight from the factory. So I just demanded my money back now.
      Seems they really having some issues at the assembly line there at Bambu Labs and they really need to invest in propper support and quality checks.

    Do you have more videos about X1C?

    7:43 "20,000 mm/s" I have to correct you because mm/s doesn't indicate the speed of that actual printer. You'll want the cubic measuring of how much material it can push through the hot end.

    Thank you for the very informative video. I've been watching as many of these types of videos as I can to decide which printer to get (x1c or p1s). I think this video has finally made me realize what choice is right for me. It's the x1c. I've been 3d printing for about 8 years. First was a cheap anet, next was a prusa, and now i'm getting a bambu with ams. I've never had printer capable of multi-material, so this will be my biggest upgrade. Since the x1c color screen makes dealing with the materials in the ams so easy, I think I would regret not having it. That really is my only real reason for choosing the x1c as the p1s is such a great deal. I just want that ams integration on the screen because that's where you are when dealing with and changing materials... at the printer. So I'm willing to pay for it.

  • @markm6525
    @markm6525 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a 2 week old X1C without AMS. Your ideas on minimizing multi material are excellent. What bothers me about the AMS is it's the least robust product of theirs. And IT'S NOT HEATED. If they release a heated AMS I'll order it same day. I tend to doubt a third party will offer a heated option for Bambu printers. My other complaint is neither video nor time lapse have worked on my iPhone. I have a raspberry pi cam rigged up for the time being, but it's not cloud connected. So it's only available at home so far. Have you tested the Orca slicer? It seems virtually identical, but it's much more community driven. Of course it doesn't have the cloud model browser.

    • @MisterkeTube
      @MisterkeTube 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "It doesn't have the cloud model browser" YET. I wouldn't be surprised if a future version would boast model browsing not only from Makerworld, but also Printables and others. So far the devs of Orca have kept up with Bambuslicer improvements pretty well and the more code both slicers port over from the other the easier porting really wanted new functionality from the other should be, so apart from the functionality alone, that might be another incentive to have Orca just take over the model browsing from Bambu.

    Oof, this is hard to watch. I'm on a FlashForge Creator Pro (around 4 years old now) and these Bambu Labs printers have been way too appealing. I get so many print failures, the print quality isn't great to begin with, various capabilities like bridging or speed are very poor... But it works. I can't justify an upgrade. Yet. The X1C is really expensive (though dirt cheap given how much better it is compared to the competition), so I think I'll save until my Creator Pro is unbearable to use.
    I agree about the pros/cons of proprietary hardware and software. I'm fine with it if the user experience is so dramatically better.

      There're rumours/signals already that the P1S/X1C follow up might be a multitool head printer. Which could be a logical thing because of those ongoing lawsuits now.

I use my P1P for cardboard spools. Had a couple issues with my AMS on the X1C but as soon as I printed an LED riser, all my AMS problems were resolved. These machines are SOOO fast!! In conclusion, print speed went from 50mm/s to 150 mm/s with input shaping/vibration compensation,could upload prints directly to the sonic pad without downloading to sd card, and have full access to edit the gcode. Sonic pad is totally worth it if you’re sticking with Enders.

    If X1C is so good screen wise would it not make sense to get P1S and a 3rd party screen and better hotend still all gor a fraction of the price?
    Looks like P1S is purposely made to be a bit lacking and X1C overpriced for a fractional step up.

    • @MisterkeTube
      @MisterkeTube 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      P1S = X1C minus the costly unnecessary stuff. The SoC on the X1C is just driving that screen UI, the camera and the AI, so that's what you lose by cutting out that expensive SoC and screen from the BOM. And if you anyway don't have the power to process AI stuff / lidar images, that one is an additional cost-saving. The extruder gears and nozzle are cheap upgrades to handle carbon-filled stuff, so P1S is king in my eyes. Why would I go to the printer to see status or control stuff if I can do it from the slicer or my phone? And the lidar often gives worse results than (once per filament) manual tuning, has build plate limitations anyhow, and eats up some build volume at the front, so ... what are you then really missing on the P1S compared to the X1C? Well, bragging rights maybe?

    I took a glimpse in the Bambulab forums and they all seem to fiddle around just like with enders now im kinda unshure 😂 if i keep my ender 3 pro or what i should do, im printing on 144mm/s with it without any problems its kinda shaking but not 144mm/s on walls ofc once its set up its just leveling here and then and i dont really see how to convince myself to pay 300 bucks just to be able to change colors if all im printing is functional stuff and not decorative. I think for me best bet is to wait for someone to compete with bambu and then check the market again ... Creality K1 has all the problems of owning a Creality machine so thats not an option too 😂

    • @jeremycarrillo7399
      @jeremycarrillo7399 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I pretty much only print functional things.
      Killer features of the ams for me are the auto change over on run out and the fact that its a dry box. The multi color is useful for printing labels. Also some things I would rather print in pla than petg as it prints just a bit faster and more accurately in my experience.
      I keep 2 spools of black petg, 1 spool of clear petg, and 1 spool of black pla in it at all times.
      I had my ender 3 all set up and dialed in but the x1c just took so much of the tinkering out of keeping it at that point. Sure its required a bit of maintenance and I did have couple of issues but that is in the 1.5 years of ownership and 100s of kg of filament.
      I ended up giving the ender away

    I see a lot of talk of how Bambu Labs changed everything, but my (hopefully objective) take is they just had the first high profile printer in what could be called this 'next generation'. All the manufacturers now seem to be bringing out (much) faster printers that are in the 'plug and play' direction - it just seems like evolution of the tech, not a Bambu-specific thing. But people seem to like their Bambus much like they like their Apples (quite possibly a big overlap in the two camps of devotees too).
    Overall I'm neither one way or the other, but the pricing premium on Bambu gear turns me right off. I've also heard worrying things about Bambu's privacy policy, and their machines' logs containing data they have no need to be containing. Seems like 2024 is going to be the year of the multi colour/material printing units - hopefully someone will release one that can be retro-fitted to at least the current generation of printers (e.g. Ender V3 etc).
