Hi everyone. I missed the link in the video originally but you can order the P1S here from Bambu. Just to confirm this is an affiliate link but again I will stress I would not recommend this printer or use their links if it was not as good as I said it is. I very carefully use links on my channel and the very fact I’m using them is a sign of trust I have for Bambu and their products.

@@MadRC We have an X1C for testing purposes at the moment and it really is great, but there is one big show stopper that keeps me from dropping all our Crealitys, Sovols, Prusas etc. - and that is the proprietary approach of Bambu Labs. 3D printing is *only* where it is today because it comes from the open source community and was not padlocked behind patents, undocumented tech, lawsuits, greed and big corp pressure. I've read the statements from Bambu in regards of open source and frankly, their stance on it is pretty upsetting, even if hidden behind well written nothingness. As it stands, getting those printers puts you in a perfect vendor-lock-in scenario, and with 30+ years of experience in the tech sector I dare say, that is something you really, really want to avoid. It's MacOS all over again: take something the community created, close it down, put some proprietary parts on it and thus defile the whole idea it was based on.

I decided on the X1-C w/AMS and after several weeks of use, i bought another with 2 additional AMS units! It's an absolute joy to use, especially for a noobie not wanting to fiddle with settings and such, my time is valuable to me and having a print and forget (for the most part) is great!

@@thatCbean I'm probably grabbing the X1C next month, coming from an Ender 3 which I've had since december 2018. I feel like it's only a logical choice because by now I've had my fair share of experience with tweaking, tuning, debugging and upgrading my 3D printer. Now I just want something that just works perfectly out of the box, can print better materials, can print faster, can print multiple colors or materials, and with a bigger build volume so that I can iterate faster on parts for my hobbies and functional use.
I enjoy fiddling around with this tech, but when I just want to print something without having to wait around the printer for 10 minutes to make sure the first layer sticks properly etc., it can be quite demovitating and I think it's the reason I haven't used the printer that much and haven't printed many big parts because of common failures.

The LAN only mode having one lose functionalities that should not (in my opinion) require the use of a cloud is a real shame. I am an engineer (retired). If I am making vehicle parts or robot parts or other machines, then the carbon filaments are important for strength. I will look into how much it would cost to add the components to do these materials. This was a great video. For my situation, it would have been good to hear more about the filaments this P1s does not handle.

I wanted a printer with enclosure for printing other filament than PLA and PETG so I sold my A1 and bought the P1S. The P1S got a lot off warping with PLA especially on the left side. For every day printing cleaned my plate with hot water and soap. So I was disappointed and want the A1 back. Looked at internet and there was a lot of the same problem. What I thought could be the problem was the Aux Fan and that seems the solution they mentioned. Tried it on 10% and 0% and It worked for me. No warping with PLA. Hope it will continue so. For the rest I am happy with the P1S. Liked your channel.

I am bummed that I got mine before you posted this video, or I would have indeed used your affilliate link to support your amazing work. I just wanted to say that I too have the P1S and it just worked brilliantly right out of the box. I have printed literally dozens of things up to this point and have never had a single issue or print failure. I did not get the version with the AMS because I just don't need it for the kind of printing I regularly do, but I DO use it to make multi-color TPU prints and the ease with which you can change filaments at specific layers is absolutely amazing. You simply right click on the layer in Bambu studio where you want to change the color, and insert a "pause" and then either use Studio or the touch pad to unload and then reload the new filament and hit "done", then press the "play" or continue button and the P1S picks up right where you left off and creates PERFECT multi layered color prints. It is absolutely mind blowing how easy and how good it is.
Great video, great review and my experiences 100% mirror yours sir.

You are absolutely on the money concerning P1S vs X1C. After the simple upgrade on P1S, of changing the hot end and extruder, gear you have what X1C can do. As for the display panels, I can't justify $500 for the difference. In fact what I can justify is the fact I already have 2 and am shooting for another 2. Four of P1S at $950 ea is $3.8g. Four of X1C is $6g. That's a lot of cash difference which can now go to alot of Ale, with a zero compromise in output quality.

I've been FTP to my P1S to get timelaps and such off it. It saves me having to take the SD card in and out. Only issue is its slow. 250kbs max. and if the printer is doing anything then its half of that if your lucky. Only other kinda issues ive had have been the camera. It just pauses and does not update after 10-20 mins. The handy app is the same. The older versions of studio would then freeze and crash. New one freezes but you can switch off the video and then back on and it works again. The Cloud printing is useful but i would prefer to use Lan mode and have camera and also it been nice to have print history and stats thats not just in the handy app. I have had times where its been super slow to upload and or download from the cloud. Hopefully they will update this in the future. Hardened gears and hotend upgrade only cost me 50 quid more. Only other thing id say is i dont think you mentioned the print bed surface. The P1S comes with a very nice double sided PEI textured steel sheet which is different to both the other printers in the line up. Cheers.

So a week and a half ago I upgraded from an old Ender 3 V2 by by buying two Ender 3 KE's. I had long ago put away my original Ender because it required too much Faffing around. The KE's were definitely an upgrade and printed nicely when they worked. One printed flawlessly. The other was wrought with issues .. all resolved with work ... then it suffered a catastrophic failure on the hot end. I took them both back and bit the bullet buying a P1S and an AMS. It prints like a dream with no print cleanup necessary when designed and oriented correctly. But either one and you will be happy!

When I bought it I was in doubt to get the X1 or the P1S but I have had no regrets what so ever, I upgraded the hotted to a hardened nozzle and the extruder to hardened gear and that is really all you need to print even the most exotic filaments. Also the prices of the replacement stuff are really reasonable. Overall a very good experience with the printer and AMS.

Buying a P1S myself. This will be my second 3D printer. My current printer is an inexpensive ANET ET4 and although it can print well at slow speeds. It's biggest drawback in the capacitive sensor used to sense bed leveling. It will often drift depending on temperature and becomes a pain having to re-adjust the sensor with a small screwdriver before every print cycle which can take 30 minutes or more. I'm hoping this printer will allow me enjoy more print time and less screwing around time. I'm going to try bed leveling the ET4 printer by adding a single optical sensor on the Z axis to detect the bed level without a sensor on the print head. If the bed is level, then one point alone should dictate the level. Wish me luck.

Just to add I have only had minor issues with the first layer due to using the cool plate option 35deg c. Little bit of glue on the pei sheet and it's golden. Also I think if they adjusted the print head g code to wait until the nozzle to hit tepreture instead of starting the print run when the head is a couple of degrees lower this will help as well.

I love that you focus on real usage situations and not just drilling all the same things all the others do. One extra thing I prefer the P1S for (vs the X1C) is that It's (apparently) slightly less noisy. Although It's probably such a minor difference they'll both sound noisy. Did you experience any differences on sound levels? The noise is the biggest reason the MK4 is still in the mix.

Best explanation video of differences between P1S and X1C that I have seen!
I'm going for the Bambu Labs P1S. Given your explanation, I can live with a lower quality camera (I've never had one before, so this is already a step forward).
I can live with having to use the SD card every now and then for the timelapses. And for the price difference, I would rather upgrade the P1S with, among other things, different nozzles and buy a Bambu Labs A1 Mini that I then use for small and 0.2 prints, for example. Or a resin printer instead of the A1 Mini.
I can live with the difference in screen. And a side that has not yet been treated. If the screen ever breaks, the P1S replacement screen is significantly cheaper (almost 5x) than an X1C replacement screen.
Thank you for the very clear explanation.

There’s an issue with LAN Only mode. If you have your printer on a vLAN different than your computer it will be a struggle getting connected.
The P1S advertises itself to Bambu Studio, and that doesn’t natively go across vLANs. There are work arounds, some routers can forward the broadcast, others don’t, so you may need to spoof the UDP broadcast packet so Bambu Studio knows where the printer is.

Given we can replace the gears and hotend for the hardened steel versions, im assuming that the P1S can use all CF reinforced materials that bambu offer but i have seen peopel doubting this without giving good reasons. Have you tried this upgrade and printed with PLA-CF/PEG-CF/Nylon-CF etc.?

6 months and a few firmware updates later, how much of a difference do you think the lidar makes now? If the P1 had a better camera and and screen, I wouldn't even think about which one to get, but, that's where I am. I plan to print most all materials (Nylon, ASA, etc etc) and I wonder how much time/filament the lidar saves in calibrating.

I will be using it for RC airplanes where keeping the exact scale and strength are important.

I have a question, I'm fresh to 3D printers and set on the Bambu range. Should I choose the new A1 with AMS lite over the P1S?. The X1C is out of my price range. I'm thinking of future proofing. The A1/AMS seems to be the best value (And provides color options) but cannot print ABS, ASA etc. For the P1S I know I can purchase the AMS later if I need multiple color, and its provides the enclosure for ABS, ASA etc later if I decide the graduate to those filaments. Right now I'm torn on which to choose. Bed slinger or XY. The price of the P1S is like $150 dearer than the A1/AMS. Can you help guide me on best option here between the 1. I have excluded the P1P

@@williamphillips777 In the end I went with the X1C. Currently about 700 hours of printing down since I got it in October. And I love it. It really does just work almost every single time. Have had a few teething problems that were mostly my fault. Or resulted in trying to multimaterial print PLA and PETG (I just haven't been able to get PETG to work as yet, it sticks to the nozzle once it gets so high and that can pull it off the plate, but PLA is pretty much plug and play). Not sure if I just have a dud roll of PETG. Going to try some ABS/ASA and a new roll of PETG shortly to test my metle on other types of plastic now I've got the big thing I wanted to make done.
In the end, decided I don't presently need the bigger plate size. Printed a few things that took up the whole plate and they come out great. Currently on the last on a 25 plate print for a BC-304 from Stargate and it's come out a treat. Precision on parts if pretty much spot on right off the plate. I've only had to file or sand a couple of bits to get them to fit. Some things mesh so tightly I actually had to buy a mallet to help gently get them fully seated. The app is head and shoulders above the Creality option too. If all you want is printer info, it opens on the screen for me and gives me details without ads. Live view is awesome, but does chew up your phones data if you're not on wifi.
My only issues so far is occasionally the poop will somehow flick out into the machine instead of down the chute. Only happened three times over those seven hundred hours. And usually only happens if a part fails and I've had to cancel it off the plate and continue the rest (an awesome feature in and of itself that has saved a lot of filament waste if I didn't give a tall piece enough support).
The head movement is quite violent, so if you have other loose items on the surface you plan to use it on, it will rattle them about. And this can be enough to knock thin parts or tiny tree supports loose during a print. Can be controlled by lowering speeds in the slicer, but it has caused restarts or alterations on a couple of prints to date.
I did not have any failure to pullback errors until I added a second AMS and the Hub. Though a few easily printable bits and some disassembly of the AMSs fixed that quick smart.
A couple of times it will have a tiny fleck of hardened plastic that seeped out of the nozzle in the way when levelling, which can result in it being too high when putting down the first layer. I've had to stop those and restart (on the built in screen) and the second time just works now that it's cleared that tiny bit. And when ironing parts, I get s thin film of melted plastic around the nozzle I clear off with some tweezers before starting another job.
I clogged the nozzle switching from PETG to PLA (as the PETG support). Managed to get the PETG in the section between the extruder and the nozzle to bow outwards just a tiny bit that meant it was wider than the opening at the top and bottom. So it wouldn't just pull free. Had to disassemble the entire head to get at the stuck piece. However, this was super easy. A few screws and a couple of leads you need to disconnect. Their documentation is excellent and there are many videos showing step by step how to make such maintenance.
Had a brittle piece of filament break off inside the AMS between the first and second stage that I had to pull the AMS apart to remove. Again, quick and easy to do. Hardest part is reattaching the two internal cables as they're just long enough to reach but only when the upper segment is pretty close. So can be a touch fiddly to connect.
And that's it. In the three months I've had it, that's everything that has gone wrong. Almost all one offs that were quick and easy to clear or fix and get back to printing. And most of those pop an error on screen with a QR code you can scan for more detail on what's up and how to fix it.
As for the X1C vs the P1S, I decided to go all in. I think the X1C screen is far superior to the P1S interface and just this last week a group have released an open source firmware alternative (X1+) for the X1C that cannot be used on the P series. So if you're interested in fiddling, that's a plus over the P series now as well, but will void the warranty if that's important to you. I'm personally steering clear, but am excited to see those community advancements filter into the official firmware too. The camera quality is great on my PC attached to a 4K tv and my phone screen. Not sure if the LIDAR has been doing anything as most every print has just worked with the exceptions of the couple I saw it going funny and stopped before it even did the first layer checks. And I have had one spaghetti alert (which I think is an AI exclusive feature to the X series) where a few tall bits lacking support fell over once they got too tall. Flag them to stop, pulled them and the spaghetti off the plate and allowed to continue the rest of the already 2/3 done print. Then whacked the bits that failed on a new plate with some support and they came out perfect just last night.
My printing room is right next to the kitchen, so every few prints I pull the plate off (almost exclusively used the Cool Plate so far) and give it a clean with dish sopa, hot water and a standard kitchen sponge/scrubber I've put aside for printer use only. Comes completely clean every time, dry both sides with microfibre cloths and reglue it and it's back on the machine within 15 minutes. Have only cleaned the rods once so far. And I've printed a bunch of accessories and containers on the machine which have tidied the area and keep everything right there at arms reach too. Best thing about a 3D printer imo is that if you need a new holder or something, the tool is right there in front of you. The AMS stacker has been my favourite so far. And there are so many ready to print drawer and container options on both Printables and MakerWorld.
Sure, they are pricey to buy outright, but in my experience so far, they do exactly what they're meant to do extremely reliably. I have not had to nurse it like my old Ender 3 Max. No tweaking the Z offset before every single print and spending 20 mins levelling the bed. The Bambu Studio software is clean concise and easily usable, though the units will work with other programs too. I have not bothered with SD transfer, sending all jobs so far direct from the slicer via wifi. And the mobile app is just as easy to use if you do want to print direct from it. Done a few jobs while sitting at work and knowing the printer was sitting idle at home with a clean bed. It is a closed ecosystem, but everything in it works extremely well, and does allow for certain 3rd party options for things. Which only looks to grow over the coming months (a company just released an official 3rd party hi-flow nozzle). So that could be a plus or minus for you based on your own personal preferences on that topic.
Definitely not a purchase I have regretted at all to date. Can highly recommend the BL gear. From what I have seen, if you need just basic PLA and nothing else, the A1 is the way to go. If you want to do tougher filaments, the enclosure definitely helps (though only the X1E has a heater inside, but mine regularly sits about about 30C inside). And if you want the peace of mind of the few extras bells and whistles the X1C has been great for me.

Just a remark: all the materials of the filaments you normally print on these machines ARE POLYMERS, harder nozzles allow you to print REINFORCED POLYMERS such as glass fiber reinforced polymers or carbon reinforced polymers, where the fibers (or other kind of particles, they might be even ceramic or metal micro- or nano-spheres) are embedded in the polymeric matrix. The hardness of these reinforcing particles might quickly wear out standard nozzles made of brass or not-hardened steel, while nozzles made of harder (or hardened) materials might withstand this abrasion better and for longer, making them more suitable for such reinforced polymer filaments.

I typically do not run the filament calibration every print but I have noticed after several dozen hours of different prints the print quality 'degrades' enough to be noticeable. Running the filament calibration returns it to the quality I have come to expect. So if you run it for EVERY print or even every other print, you will not notice. However, dozens of prints with out calibrating it will show some degradation.

It would be interesting to see them compared for higher temperature filaments like nylon and polycarbonate, they seem to be where the x1c is better due to the higher bed temperature and probably better enclosure.
It would also be interesting to see how useful the lidar is for more exotic filaments like varioshore and lightweight PLA where the line width does change and without the lidar would require manual calibration. Most normal filaments will behave much the same so that reduces the usefulness of the lidar and calibrating extrusion for different types of PLA or ABS isn’t something you have to do even on a basic ender 3.

I got into 3D printing a few years back with a AnyCubic Vyper. It was a pretty good printer and my only real issue had to do with storing stringiness, but was resolved when I dehumidified my reels. I looked for a step up and decided on the P1S with AMS as I was looking at multi-color printing. As former electro-mechanical tech, this machine is well built and impressive; is it well very well built. Also, this machine is speedy, produces great quality prints, and I am definately a fan. I purchased the PS1 as the X1 was a bit out of my price range, and am not sorry about my purchase. I had a party and gave away 3D prints as prizes, and every who asked about 3D printing got my unsolicited Bambu labs recommendation.
If someone is looking for their next 3D printer, I have to say, the Bambu printers are in a league of their own and recommend them wholeheartedly.
