The f-14 had a secret where if it’s flaps were pulled down it’s turn rate was unmated to even f-15s and 16s... the downside to the is that it’s flaps would lock up and not go back until maintenance was done on it, so it would lose momentum later in the fight, it was basically a now or never tatic
One thing to note about the f14 is its sheer size, something that is hard to get a bead on in pictures, the plane is massive. The f14 is the least maneuverable of the 3 in terms of “general maneuverability". Aircraft maneuverability is never a static number, and for its size and wight if it’s wings were swept forward, the initial turn rate of an f14 is very impressive, and if not expected could catch you with your pants down. The f14 however could not sustain more than 7.5 g, or else systems in the aircraft would literally start to break (f14 used large amount of mechanical systems for navigation and control) while the f15 was initially g-limited it was very soon, like the f16, able to pull 9gs no problem. These planes were designed to be maneuverable, but the f14 was designed to get off a carrier deck and still have decent performance. The f16 has the tightest sustained turn circle and initial turn with the f15 winning at high speed. While if flown well, an f14 can outmaneuver either of the others. It is down to pilot skill. But then again, maneuverability is overrated in dogfights, not wasting energy and keeping up the speed is key.

The F-14 never got those audio cues or an electronic limiter, plus Navy doctrine always stressed low-speed maneuvering and low G limits to extend the lifespan of airframes that deal with hard landings. That's why they turned the 9G YF-17 into the 7.5G F/A-18. Regarding Eagles and Vipers turn performance. The F-14 and F/A-18 with both easily beat both USAF fighters in terms of radius. At lower speeds, the Eagle and Viper are flying very inefficiently and wallow badly, but of course they make fantastic all-day sustained turn rate at high speed. Generally, the Viper outperforms the Eagle at lower altitudes, where the more efficient subsonic aerodynamics of the Viper let it pull slightly better rate and radius. The B is the same plane as the A+, they just had to redesignate it after some point in 1991 when the navy switched to a new logistics software which had issues recognizing the + and was sending replacement engines and parts to squadrons for the wrong planes.
I honestly believe we should've kept the f14 and contracted with Lockheed to update her, give her a better hud set, mount new guns, update the engines ect. The f14 in my opinion is still to this day a damn fine warbird

It's really surprising how well it can hold its own again modern aircraft. Basically as long as they don't psm you have a 50/50 against some of the most agile aircraft.

Sure the f-14 can use basic fly by wire with autopilot but thing is, it can out turn the f-18 at least at higher speeds which it easily reaches with its Beefy engines. Sure you might break your instruments and a few organs but you can pull a good 12-14 G in the cat
I've mained the F-14 for nearly the whole campaign on my first run through. I don't get the maneuverability hate behind it, it was perfectly fine when i flew it.

Always loved the Veritechs, specially VF-1S Skull One, the first of the First gen Veritechs, and the last to be retired from service because of the new Alpha/Beta Program. Also checked out Macross, not bad gotta say, happy to see at least one branch, keep going, while the other stood still all these years, wich is also sad.
All turn radiuses in AC are bs, but that doesnt mean that the F-14 isnt a good turnfighter. According to the EM charts the F-14Bs max turn rate is 28 degrees per second at 280 knots with 2 phoenix, 2 sparrow, 2 sidewinder, and 75% fuel at 15000 feet for the F-14B and D. The F-15C has a max turn rate of around 23 degrees per second at around 300 knots with 4 sparrow, 4 sidewinder, and 30% fuel at 10k feet. Turn rate isnt everything in a close in fight though. The F-14 is fairly limited in high AoA flight (it can go up to very high angles of attack, but not without bleeding a ton of energy and basically making itslef a sitting duck) compared to many other 4th generation fighters. Which makes it much harder to get close range shots off since it cant lead the target as much.
@@eggnugget575 The cobra is a suicide move in any actual combat situation. It is a very good demonstrator of the Flanker families maneuvering capabilities and its structural strength, but it requires you to be at a very specific airspeed to initiate it and it leaves you with practically no energy to work with after its complete. Its just an airshow stunt.

I rarely use the fighter because it's just not my style of plane. it's cool for sure and has some crazy history and pedigree as well as being absolutely capable even in today's aerial battlefield, it's just something about it that doesn't pull me to it in this game.

I was doing the final mission in an F 14, i was about to complete the story for the first time, then I completed the tunnel run and had to go up and I crashed into the upward pipe XD, I then realized I had to slow down after about 30 attempts and I finally did it
It still designed as an interceptor as that camera under the nose can see ridiculously for 100 of miles and its pheonix Aim 65 missles aka i like to call the silent death, can snipe planes out fo the sky with no maneuvering involved. This baby got 195 to 1 KD during the cold wars and gulf war combined. It the only successful plane in the US military with sich an out standing kill record.
Bahahahah of course it can its one of those planes that blew away the men and women big wigs in the pentagon when they were demonstrated the capabilities fo the f14. The turn break manuever showed in movie top gun that pulls a high 6g to 7g turn is a capability the f14 to this day still has or used to have. For a plane this big it was a super vicious dogfighter. It not fly by wire some of the controls are more shimmy than the fa18 whoch the fa18 super hornet is flyby wire tech.

@@Elmiros6680 surprisingly yes, you'd be amazed how much fly by wire can limit you in a dogfight.... Sure the f-14 can use basic fly by wire with autopilot but thing is, it can out turn the f-18 at least at higher speeds which it easily reaches with its Beefy engines. Sure you might break your instruments and a few organs but you can pull a good 12-14 G in the cat

Lots of Ace players go by the stat card which isn’t true at all. F-15E for example is very average plane on the card but in game is a different story.

All turn radiuses in AC are bs, but that doesnt mean that the F-14 isnt a good turnfighter.
According to the EM charts the F-14Bs max turn rate is 28 degrees per second at 280 knots with 2 phoenix, 2 sparrow, 2 sidewinder, and 75% fuel at 15000 feet for the F-14B and D.
The F-15C has a max turn rate of around 23 degrees per second at around 300 knots with 4 sparrow, 4 sidewinder, and 30% fuel at 10k feet.
Turn rate isnt everything in a close in fight though. The F-14 is fairly limited in high AoA flight (it can go up to very high angles of attack, but not without bleeding a ton of energy and basically making itslef a sitting duck) compared to many other 4th generation fighters. Which makes it much harder to get close range shots off since it cant lead the target as much.

@@eggnugget575 The cobra is a suicide move in any actual combat situation. It is a very good demonstrator of the Flanker families maneuvering capabilities and its structural strength, but it requires you to be at a very specific airspeed to initiate it and it leaves you with practically no energy to work with after its complete. Its just an airshow stunt.

I rarely use the fighter because it's just not my style of plane. it's cool for sure and has some crazy history and pedigree as well as being absolutely capable even in today's aerial battlefield, it's just something about it that doesn't pull me to it in this game.

You Really should show Hard Banking in Ace3/Ace04/AceX/and evening Ace06 to show that this Series DID have sensible flight models with Aerodynamics etc.

I was doing the final mission in an F 14, i was about to complete the story for the first time, then I completed the tunnel run and had to go up and I crashed into the upward pipe XD, I then realized I had to slow down after about 30 attempts and I finally did it
It’s a huge fighter but turns like a smaller fighter. It’s so deceptive. Great fighter for BVR and dogfighting.

It still designed as an interceptor as that camera under the nose can see ridiculously for 100 of miles and its pheonix Aim 65 missles aka i like to call the silent death, can snipe planes out fo the sky with no maneuvering involved. This baby got 195 to 1 KD during the cold wars and gulf war combined. It the only successful plane in the US military with sich an out standing kill record.

Bahahahah of course it can its one of those planes that blew away the men and women big wigs in the pentagon when they were demonstrated the capabilities fo the f14. The turn break manuever showed in movie top gun that pulls a high 6g to 7g turn is a capability the f14 to this day still has or used to have.
For a plane this big it was a super vicious dogfighter. It not fly by wire some of the controls are more shimmy than the fa18 whoch the fa18 super hornet is flyby wire tech.
