    Williams had dominated the 1992 and 1993 seasons and had by far the best car. Senna wanted to be in the best car. Unfortunately, the 1994 rule changes crippled the Williams in the early part of 94 and the car was very difficult to drive.

    The FW16 was a very nervous car (especially in the rear end) at the beginning of 1994. It got better as the season progressed, but he was already gone at that point. Also, Senna stated that he never really felt comfortable at Williams like he did at McLaren. I think he felt home sick early in 1994.

      @paolociarpaglini1303 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Non Inguidbile, ma difficile e potenzialmente pericolosa, da portare al limite. Ayrton ci riusciva, Damon no anche se avesse voluto, non la portó mai all'estremo ".. ho una famiglia e non me la sento di.." disse. "Non ho idea di come ottenga quei tempi Ayrton..", aggiunse dopo l'avvio del mondiale. Senna era un pilota con capacità al di sopra dei pur "veloci" avversari, ma forse proprio questo aspetto desta sua tempra, lo portó via per sempre. Vuoi per la modifica al piantone, che richiese e fù eseguita nella notte tra il sabato e la domenica, o se c'era realmente un problema al piantone, il non essersi fermato per scrupolo. Ma sen'è andato facendo ció che amava, credo, più di qualsiasi altra cosa. Vivrà per sempre, comunque, non c'è dubbio..

    Indeed, Senna was in a two years contract (1994-95) and was planning to go until season 2000 at least with Ferrari : a 3 years + 2 seasons option . By the way, the contract has been used as a base for Schumacher, because that contract was clearly advanced and there was a pre-contract between Senna and Ferrari. It was settled with Todt, Di Montezemello and Senna. F1 would not have been the crap of today nor having to create an artificial champion/legend to help sustaining the loss of Ayrton

    • @steez8902
      @steez8902 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      GTAGIS I find this really interesting, what book or article, (or interview?) is the source of this contract plan? I’ve seen others say Senna wanted to match Fangio and then try to win with a Ferrari

    • @GTAGIS
      @GTAGIS 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@steez8902 It is more than one source.
      And all confirm
      i can't recall, but most probably lionnel Froissard, Jean Francois Galleron, Automobile Magazine, Auto Hebdo
      So on this, I am quite very very confident.
      And even when Schumacher has signed, it was explained that Ferrari has used as a based contract the one that they had discussed with Senna .
      Actually, after the pre-contract of 1990 which turned into a big mess and which is very known today, Senna and Ferrari had kind of agreement that has been build up through time.
      The first major step was Hungary 1992.
      Then another in Spa 1993.
      Then another before Imola 1994.
      But I believe that everything was already build up already in Hungary 1992.
      At that time the number was USD 23 Mio per year.
      So probably if it has turned to be signed in 1995 to start in 1996 it would have been probably updated at much higher level.
      Nothing was signed, no contract. But the agreement and its component was build up.
      Ferrari wanted Senna, Senna wanted Ferrari and it was just a matter of time and context.

    • @lawrencecauchi665
      @lawrencecauchi665 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back to McLaren' fot more championships in 98???

    • @GTAGIS
      @GTAGIS ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lawrencecauchi665 No, most probably Ferrari either from 1996 onward or 1998
      Cause he had a 2 years Williams contract and could have been extended by 2 years.
      So all would have depend on how Ferrari was regaining form or Williams was solving problems. The fact that Senna learned about the signature of Benetton and Renault before even Williams was informed, was a big blow in the relation, but that would have depend on how Renault (who was doing good from a sales perspective at that point) would have increased its involvement to retain Senna who was pivotal in its international and south American image and would have managed the german market (idea of having Benetton was to target the german market which is the first export market for Renault and also have a "cool" image with Benetton)

    The problem with these cars is that the head and shoulders are completely exposed. It is rather obvious that in case of an accident at high speed in a side collision, the neck and head would suffer serious damage. Although the mechanical problems the car had, if the car had the side guards and protection for the neck of todays cars ... ayrton would not be dead.

    It was the right move. Hindsight's a wonderful thing, no-one could possibly have known. Williams built the car that Ayrton had been dreaming of - by his own admission had practically begged to drive - for two years, within the confines of the new rules. I don't really see what what else they could have done. Senna would have gone ballistic to find that the car Prost and Mansell cruised to championships in was suddenly 2 seconds a lap slower than he expected for safety reasons. It was a no-win.

I mean the car was originally engineered with active suspension then it was outlawed for 1994, so just remove the active suspension and hope for the best?
    But that still wouldn't answer the steering column failure question.

    The FW-16 was quite a handful in the early part of 1994. It was completely different than the all-conquering FW-15C as it was stripped of all it's electronic toys (active suspension, abs, traction control, etc). Simply put, Senna was murdered. Just the way things were covered up and a few other things that didn't make much sense, the Italian court rightfully found Williams guilty of manslaughter, however the statute of limitations had expired and no one paid from either Williams and especially the FIA paid a penalty. The real tragedy was and still is that Senna was used as a sacrificial lamb by the those unsavory characters that only wanted more money. Everyone knows that Tamburello was dangerous because of the lack of run off area, however the real question was and still is, Why Didn't the FIA cancel the race after the death of Roland Ratzenberger the day before? I guess Italian law was trumped by the six million dollars that the circuits owners would have lost if the race had been cancelled, plus the TV revenue uncle Bernie would have have lost too.

    Learn your facts, MrSenna. The 1988 mp4/4 didn't have 1200 hp at all, more like 600-650. That season was the last one with turbo engines, and the boost was limited to just 2.5 bar. Besides that, the fuel tank was also smaller so engines had to be detuned compared to previous seasons.

      Prost didn't destroy the season. Ayrton only won two races less than him with an inferior engine. The 1994 Williams was quick, but was, of course, poorly assembled and had poor reliability, which resulted in the tragic crash. Fuck Williams

      Doubt it, the car went in the direction the front wheels were facing a straight line after it broke at 310km. You don't need to see the onboard, you can see from media camera's looking at corner. Steering broke. If it bottomed out and senna lost control he would hooked it to the left . There is no evidence of tires moving 135degree to the left, he smashed the brakes, as it was only thing he could do.

We miss you so much ='(

    No, today's helmet would not have changed since the suspension is quite heavy, and there was also the left front wheel . So no helmet would have avoid : 1 penetration 2 skull fractures due to the impact.
    But if Williams did a proper change in the wheels direction, if Tamburello wall was 20 meters away with a 6 line tyres protection wall, things would have been different . Very different. F1 would have been completely different

  • @nysdgiants
    @nysdgiants 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    its amazing back in the day how exposed their head/helmet was compared to now. i used to remember when drivers entering a turn would tilt their head to help with the g forces which they don't do today cause of design and safety.
    its a shame all this change happened because of senna. what's even worse he might have won the title in 96 and if he did i believe he would've retired.
    also, what happened to williams? their last great years was with montoya and ralf which isn't saying much.

    So sad that Ayrton had to die. The battle between him and Schumacher would have been so epic from 1994 onwards... and he would have been a worthy F1 champion driving the Williams, unlike later Williams drivers Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve.
