No need to compare two excellents bands :) Btw Bono's voice has waaaay more possibilites than Phil Lynott's, when it comes to guitar and rhythmic though...
Agree, in one of my bands we have had 4 really good drummers and all of them have struggled with some of the Thin Lizzys tracks we do...Emearlad being one them!
Absolutely, this comes through again and again, but especially on this song... It is almost centered around him more than Phil's bass lines... He's immortalised in these videos, ageless. He was only 36 when he died. He'd be about 72 years old now. Amazing story tellingly skills. A wonderful musician, lyricist and singer. Still a little in love with him.
I remember seeing Phil on stage in Belfast with Gary Moore just months before he (Phil) died, He had so much charisma he had the audience eating out of his hand. We're all still in love with him!
yea there was a documentary about thin lizzy yesterday and old band mates on bbc four ex girlfriend and his ex wife and the two grown-up daughters talking what there could remember think about 73 age he would have been now
Sadly my generation didn't get to see Thin Lizzy in their golden days, I dream of visiting Ireland and seeing everything Philip ever saw. I know you are special and I feel your music with my heart.
By far the best Irish band of all time. Saw them live multiple times & they tore the place up with their non-stop heavy rock winners, back to back brilliance. Phil Lynott was utterly unique in his powerful charisma, voice and lyrics. I think Prince may well have studied his look and based his own sultry eyes and hair on Philo's. This was heavy rock at its best, with blazing twin guitars, deadly drumming and a frontman/bassist like no other.
Agreed! I remember being like 8 years old and there used to be an ad on TV for one of those Greatest Rock Hits CD collections, and they played that descending twin guitar part and I just loved the sound of it and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Here I am around 30 years later still listening to it.
Every now and then you need a dose of Thin Lizzy, just to remind you of how great this band were. Absolutely relentless rock that doesn't stop to draw breath like in this track and 'Killer on the loose' are essential listening.
Killer on the loose wasn't the least bit clever or cool. Lizzy displayed intense insensitivity releasing that song when they did in 1980, when the Yorkshire ripper murders were ongoing. They obviously didn't think about the victims families and what they were going through.
My 6 brothers and said it the very first time that we got to see Thin Lizzy & Rory Gallagher play live in the very early days and followed both for the remaining years, that we will never get to see more brilliant rocking bands then Thin Lizzy & Rory Gallagher and we have been proven completely correct, wat a most stunning great play Snowy was/is, Thin Lizzy was the perfect fit for his playing. Because of the advice that Phil gave, I never wet back to China Town, a dangerous place, fighting women down there.
Brian Downey is a underrated monster on drums! So many songs he alone is the hard working labour champion ♥ but also with such timing and perfection.
