As a 22 year old in 2023 I can honestly say there is not a single band now or in the future that will even touch the greatness of Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy in terms of greatness. Quite simply the best band of all time, a man that can write songs like this and like whiskey in the jar and jailbreak and the boys are back in town, simply incredible
I am much older than you and remember Thin Lizzy from way back when they were at the height of their powers. I liked them then but still didn't fully appreciate just how great they really were.
@@edwardcowley42 Some people really put in effort to misinterpret... Phil, Eric and Brian rearranged Whiskey in the jar and made it in a very different way than the traditional folk song. Could you agree on that?

There's a thin line between a drummer overplaying and displaying some musical expression, it takes a great drummer to learn this. Anyone can learn a really hard beat, if they put the effort in. Any musician will understand improvement is not linear. For example, I can play what is supposedly the hardest drum beat in existence, the Purdie shuffle, like nothing, I've even improved on it, by putting a poly rhythm and an odd time signature on it every 3 bars. Technically, this would mean I came up with the "hardest drum beat ever," but it's not about that. There is a lot I have to learn. A LOT. Playing an instrument is more than just technical ability, and even then my technical ability is not amazing, my chops are fairly basic, and I barely practice my rudiments. Being a musician is all about feel and taste. You need that technique to back it up and expand your options, but it is not the most important factor
Same. Phil's voice I guess......Felt so "lonely" in 82-83 in high school when I told the others in class, my badge? Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy ......And about nobody heard the name

First saw Thin Lizzy at the old Liverpool boxing stadium in 1976. What a show, Phil Lynott and the boys were awesome. Great memories . Sadly missed. Always playing their music.
Saw Thin Lizzy Cornwall Coliseum Just after spending the weekend at the first Elephant Fayre Sunday 2nd August 1981 . Snowy White was paired up with the wonderful Scott Gorman . I am so deeply indebted to these wonderful artists who have left me such a wealth of tremendous music to enjoy and always will. To have heroes like these ,instead of empire makers or here today ,gone tomorrow politicians . I ,and my generation ( mid sixties now) are so fortunate to have had such true talent to enjoy and appreciate. I can’t thank you enough ..Kind Regards
Phil Lynott wrote the most beautiful ROCK songs. Not an easy thing to do. This song is drenched in melody. Covered as a ballad and Sinatra could be singing it.

Yes - back then I often read Steve Harris got much influenced by Thin Lizzy. The inspiration for twin guitar solos he got from Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash. The hard rock touch from bands like Scorpions. And he put it all together in a new Heavy Metal Format and made one of the biggest Heavy Metal Bands out of that combination.
