R.I.P. John. Saw him with Thin Lizzy, Birch Hill club in New Jersey. Fantastic beginning of the tribute to Phil’s life. Honorable men. God bless them both.
Nothing hurts the heart of a kid more than seeing one of their heroes fall. RIP Sykes, and thank you for the awesome solos and the amazing music you created.
holy smokes what a jammin tune. dude had to die before I found it but I'm glad I did. Didn't even remember him being with TL 'till I read an article just now. Thanks for posting.
What a loss to us guitar freaks, i loved Johns playing, that vibrato😮 simply amazing, Gary Moore & John Sykes, massive influences on millions of us, very sad news. Rest in peace brother😢
Just went to see the tribute rock band Limehouse Lizzy currently on tour and holy meatballs are they as close to these legends or what?!?!?!?! If you love the legends that were Thin Lizzy… go see Limehouse Lizzy. Absolutely brilliant. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It was a real shame that this incarnation of Thin Lizzy couldn’t have lasted a few more years. The addition of John Sykes really seemed to reinvigorate the rest of the band and they recorded their best music in years. I’m glad that I had the chance to see them play at Hammersmith Odeon before Phil’s premature death.
Scott Gorham had to deal with his drug problem and Phil was getting worse with his..... videos from shortly after this show Phil as bloated and looking very ill... I think if the band hadn't folded when it did, things would have got very bad and may not have left the legacy it did
My dad taped this off the TV back in the 80s ... it was the only thin lizzy gig footage I had as a kid to watch ...TH-cam is great for this sorta thing....... lizzy was a special band.....tho Phil was not well...the guy never missed a beat.what a band....30 odd years later...it still does it for me...
Never saw Lizzy live. Seen 4 tributes, all give a taste of what Thin Lizzy were about. But none come close to the real band from what I get from these vids. Very sad we lost Phil so young. What a great talent he was.
I watched this so many times as a kid, with my video recorder remote on a lead, just trying to figure out, what the hell just happened on Sykes' guitar, & I still love watching it now. Complete legend, gone tragically too soon. Christ its depressing.
One and only shadow of the great Gary Moore. Im not a Sykes fan boy, ive heard both several times and Sykes wete never and never will be, in the same class. Sorry
For anyone wondering or interested, I'm pretty sure this was at the Regal Theatre in Hitchin and was likely filmed on January 26th 1983. You can find the full concert on TH-cam.
Yes and I think it was before the thunder and lightning album came out too so a few new songs for the fans. I think the live picture on the back of the album is from this gig.
If we could've had at least one more Thin Lizzy lp with John I know it would've been glorious. A lineup of Phil,Brian,John and Gary Moore would've been phenomenal. Philip Lynott and John Sykes legend both. RIP
In a lot of ways this solo is like a baton that Randy Rhodes handed off to John. Crazy that John didn't get more credit at the point in his career. LEGEND RIP JOHN SYKES.
The times i could have seen them live 🤔, i eventually caught them at the Reading Festival 83..... great set great band and Lynott held all 30 odd thousand of us in the palm of his hand .… thanx for the music Phil 🎸👏
i am 54, heard their big hits & loved them back then. thanks to this archive i am hearing and seeing this for the first time! Phil & lizzy r my new faves of all time!! thanks for posting!!
Just imagine if Phil had lived, and this version went on... I wonder how many of those " Whitesnake" songs would have been on the next few Thin Lizzy albums...
Robbo and Scott were my two faves …. Bad Reputation Reading festival 77 at age 17 a true gem of a gig…this is food for thought though, kicks ass in all the right places. Solid as a rock Lizzy. 👌🏼🕉
Scott, Robbo, Phil, and Brian. That’s Thin Lizzy folks. Every other version of the band that followed was meant to maintain the bar that was set by those guys.
I first heard this song on a Megadeth album. Both versions are killer but I am impressed with how heavy Thin Lizzy was. To me it is what Heavy Metal is all about.
Agreed Louise, I can't remember if Mustaine credited Thin Lizzy on 13 for the cover. I always wanted to know who did the original and I was pleasantly surprised to hear Dave covered it perfectly.
RIP John Sykes
That sweet spot between hard rock and heavy metal. Perfect
One of the reasons why Thin Lizzy might seriously be the best rock group of them all.
If you like that spot, you can listen as well «She goes down» by Gotthard 👌👌 the voice and the instruments are awesome.
Truly agreed, their sound perfectly together..! ❤😢😊
RIP John Sykes 😢 Rockin up there with Phil now .
RIP John Sykes true legend. He brought a new energy to Lizzy.
Won’t be another one like Sykes. Very very special.
RIP, John Sykes 😢
RIP John Sykes, and of course the man Phil.... :(
R.I.P. John. Saw him with Thin Lizzy, Birch Hill club in New Jersey. Fantastic beginning of the tribute to Phil’s life. Honorable men. God bless them both.
RIP John Sykes....A great guitar slinger has left us.
Rest In Peace John...
Rip John Sykes 🙏
You've been a true guitar hero for our generation
RIP John Sykes legend!!!
RIP John Sykes, cant beleeve it
You can see how much Phil was loving this performance, especially after John's solo. They rocked.
And that's how you do it. Thanks for the memories John.

Phil loved writing about seedy gambling. It so works. My favorite Irish band
This band with Sykes on guitar and Phil’s vocals. Forget it. What a ticket. Rip Phil.
RIP John. Most underrated guitar player of the 80's 90's

@alberttober6259 highest paid doesn't mean accolades and recognition.

Brian Downey a fantastic drummer, all the notes in the right place.

I think he is really overlooked as one of the greats .
Best Irish ☘️ rock band in the history of forever.
The first concert I went to
What a loss to us guitar freaks, i loved Johns playing, that vibrato😮 simply amazing, Gary Moore & John Sykes, massive influences on millions of us, very sad news. Rest in peace brother😢
One of the greatest voices in rock history period.
Just went to see the tribute rock band Limehouse Lizzy currently on tour and holy meatballs are they as close to these legends or what?!?!?!?!
If you love the legends that were Thin Lizzy… go see Limehouse Lizzy. Absolutely brilliant. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
yep your right as close to the original as youll get
Reunited with Phil... RIP John gone too soon 😞💔
RIP John Sykes. Awful news but the afterlife just gained another guitar legend.
rest in peace - John. Rock on with Phil & Gary
Sykes!!
This is such a killer song!! John Sykes is amazing and the little screams he adds is awesome.

True this line up fucking rules
Scott Gorham had to deal with his drug problem and Phil was getting worse with his..... videos from shortly after this show Phil as bloated and looking very ill... I think if the band hadn't folded when it did, things would have got very bad and may not have left the legacy it did
@@ianbagley172 worse than death?
John Sykes is one badass guitarist.
To this date one of my favourite rock tunes and riffs/solos...Thunder & Lightning album remains a masterpiece.
🎸👍

Yes! This is one of hard rocks most underappreciated releases.
Vagabonds Kings worriors angels!! Pretty good to
Right you are, It doesn't get much better than Thunder & Lightning. It's one album that's been in heavy rotation for albums I listen to most.
RIP JOHN GUITAR LEGEND 🎸
To the person who voted this down, it’s called COLD SWEAT not Coldplay (just ask someone who knows about music)

with john Sykes.....more then words
Phil was and will always be the coolest Irishman that ever existed.
Agree, but you can extend that to the coolest Earthling ever.
If you promote heroin !!!!!????
What about Mrs. Brown?
Theres a legend that says he was born in Paysandù, Uruguay.
@@DudemanSwede 9
One of the coolest songs ever written.
One of the best bands EVER. Shit they make me cry all over again.
Johnny the fox, emerald, rosalie, the sun goes down. ♥️ don't they count? 1983 tour Glasgow apollo. Any cowboys 🤠 💙 out there see the opening band?

John Sykes The One and Only
One and only shadow of the great Gary Moore. Im not a Sykes fan boy, ive heard both several times and Sykes wete never and never will be, in the same class. Sorry
I'm just sad R. I. P John🥀
Fuckin' amazing Band!

Strikes me as an epic live performance band.
No small thing to really impact on a live crowd.
Again, underrated.
R.I.P John Sykes
Thank You for the great music.

Sykes touching sky ♥
It’s a shame all most have heard is boys back in town. These dudes jam and rock hard! Even in the 2022! I salute them .
In a lot of ways this solo is like a baton that Randy Rhodes handed off to John. Crazy that John didn't get more credit at the point in his career. LEGEND RIP JOHN SYKES.
Its unbelievable how great they really were. Phils music will live forever
Miss you Phillip....
Quality and a personal friend of Lemme , Motörhead 👊💥
saw Thin Lizzy at almost every festival in Germany for 4 years I consider myself lucky AF.
This is the song that got me into Thin Lizzy as it was in the UK top 40 charts. Tommy Vance used to do it on Sunday evenings on the BBC.
The times i could have seen them live 🤔, i eventually caught them at the Reading Festival 83..... great set great band and Lynott held all 30 odd thousand of us in the palm of his hand .… thanx for the music Phil 🎸👏
R.I.P. John Sykes.
Killer guitar solo!
1983 . The Spring. I was about to graduate and this album came to my attention. Im still not the same. Crying shame it was only one album.
Killer track and Sykes was on fire.
One of my TL favorites. Such a rocker!

And still is to this day.
I love thin Lizzy
Awesome job performing that awesome song! We were so Blessed and lucky to have seen these great bands live back in the late 1970's and 80's! 🤘🤘
Everyone in Thin Lizzy was top notch. With Phil, he truly conjured up the very fucking best out of all of them.
So gifted ... so dedicated to alkohol and drugs ... so sad ... so still in love with you 💔😢
Just imagine if Phil had lived, and this version went on... I wonder how many of those " Whitesnake" songs would have been on the next few Thin Lizzy albums...
A few from 87, none from 84 because Sykes had no songwriting credits.
Cold Stone crazy! Phil sang all the choruses reversed! I love it! Great song. Great band.
Thats because Phil was the best and could get away with it 😎🤘
Scott Gorham: unsung hero and pillar of Thin Lizzy!
class! and to that one person that down voted it ... we will find you :-)
I sore thin lizzy at reding 83 it was amazing
Great video, these guys were masters of syncopation, and had a lot of balls!❤
Robbo and Scott were my two faves …. Bad Reputation Reading festival 77 at age 17 a true gem of a gig…this is food for thought though, kicks ass in all the right places. Solid as a rock Lizzy. 👌🏼🕉
Scott, Robbo, Phil, and Brian. That’s Thin Lizzy folks. Every other version of the band that followed was meant to maintain the bar that was set by those guys.

Simply awesome 🇮🇹
Love lizzy wish I had seen them in concert 😢
What a man, what a band. We all miss phil and lizzy.
What kick ass band. Simply fantastic
Phil + John Sykes = the new era Lizzy should have had.
True But if that did Happen you woeld not have had the killer version of Whitesnake from on slide it in Lp. And on
I first heard this song on a Megadeth album. Both versions are killer but I am impressed with how heavy Thin Lizzy was. To me it is what Heavy Metal is all about.
Sodom covered it, too.
Go Ireland! This is really heavy!
This is really hard rock, but I hear you.
Agreed Louise, I can't remember if Mustaine credited Thin Lizzy on 13 for the cover. I always wanted to know who did the original and I was pleasantly surprised to hear Dave covered it perfectly.
What a band.
