- In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.

Sophie, you’re the only reactor I’ve seen who understood why Ripley was trying to turn off the self-destruct 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
"I dont like scary movies"
This was the most terrifying cinematic experience in my life. I saw this in the theater the night it premiered. It was the first film I ever saw in Dolby stereo. I noticed that people were periodically getting up and walking up the aisle. At one point, in the 3rd act, I turned around and looked back at the audience and I could see a cluster of people standing in the back of the theater. Too scared to sit down and watch it but too engrossed in the movie to walk out.
I went to the original opening with my friend and his 13-year-old son. Yes, some overwhelmed people had to walk out during the chest-burster scene and soon my friend's son was so spooked we had to take him home. My friend and I later returned by ourselves to the theatre to a whole new audience and the same thing happened with terrified people having to leave partway through the movie. None of us had seen anything like this incredible movie before and it still frightens people to this day.
My grandma didn’t care too much for movies in general but saw this in theaters with my mom & her friends.
My mom’s friend pretended to go to the bathroom but snuck up around behind my grandma and grabbed her shoulders as the chest burster erupted from John hurt’s chest 😂.
She screamed and left the theater understandably mad.
“I hope the Alien doesn’t understand English” is a Great Comment!😂😂😂
Big round of applause for Sophie, I love when reactors who don’t like scary movies put themselves thru this for our entertainment
I saw this on the second day of its opening at the giant-screen Uptown Theater in Washington, DC. People today have no idea of the impact it had then. In its own way it was as innovative as “Star Wars.” The gritty, detailed set design, the horrifically stormy planet, the Hitchcockian suspense, and the working-class characters just doing a job---these were things never seen in earlier space movies. Today, people are jaded. The revelation of Ash was, I think, one of the most shocking moments in film history. The practical effects are still great today---some of the best ever done.
"I think we have reached the maximum point of curiosity" - HA, the last words of every alien movie ever!
Key take away: Don't trust your employer with your well-being. Trust your gut when it comes to personal safety. A job is a job but your health is another thing entirely.
Truer words were never spoken. 👍🏽🫵🏽🎯
I first watched Alien at 13, but what you just said is the reason I love it even more at 50. It just keeps getting truer
👍🏾👌🏾Just saying: Alien IS Good. Alien('s) is "BETTER"!! Give it a watch!👌🏾👍🏾
When I worked as an electrician for a major power company, I had a big Weyland-Yutani sticker on my lunchbox to remind myself of what kind of people I worked for.
Mair: He is not human!
Me: of course not bro. That's BILBO BAGGINS!
Sophie we appreciate you watching this for us
Great Saga Please keep reacting to :
★ *Aliens* (1986)
★ *Alien³ (1992)*
★ *Alien Resurrection (1997)*
also i recommend you :
🔥 *Predator* (1987)
🔥 *Predator 2* (1990)
🔥 *Predators* (2010)
and then :
★ *Alien vs. Predator (2004)* 🔥
,
Don't forget Prometheus and Alien:Covenant :)
@@peperino25 don't forget about aliens vs predator the predalien and wolf predator and predator 2018 and prey and I like the predator 2018 I have no problem with that
I would suggest the first two films in both franchises. I would quit after those, however. The rest are terrible imo.
27:00 Mair's reaction is great. Using his lady as body shield. "Take her first!" lol
Weyland had no intention of splitting shares with the crew hence: ‘Crew expendable”.
It’s more than likely that they sent other ships there too, hence the warning.
As someone else has said, NEVER trust your employer!
One of my all time favorite movies, aged incredibly well. Outstanding practical effects and design all over the shop. Great reaction
In the book the alien grew that fast because it was eating the extra food supplies on the ship. Love the reaction.
Ash revealed as a robot like that was a bigger shock than the chestburster scene. This movie was a mixture of JAWS and Agatha Christie’s masterpiece And Then There Were None
Highly recommend the Special Edition of the sequel Aliens.
What makes Alien better than any of the others in the franchise is we can identify with the main cast, they felt real, their relationships felt natural.
They’re basically just space truckers trying to get by.
At the speed of light, it takes a hundred thousand years to get from one end of our galaxy to the other end of it. Whatever’s taking place in this movie is taking place in our galaxy.
You have no way of knowing that...whatsoever.
@@philosopher0076 The Milky Way galaxy is about 100,000 lightyears across, so that's how many years it takes to travel that distance at light speed.
@@philosopher0076 Logic tells me and those other people with a functioning brain that it must take place within our galaxy, galaxy brain.
@@philosopher0076 If you want me to qualify it, here you go. “Based upon what I see in the movie and the dialogue, this is most likely taking place in our own galaxy since the closest star system to earth is about 40,000,000,000 kilometres away from our star system”.
@@philosopher0076 The YT comments section doesn't play well with philosophical arguments. :)
The Xenomorph has a sped up metabolism. It grows up very fast. A wee tip for you guys. Great reaction 😊
I actually saw ALIEN in 1979 when it premiered in New York City. The theater was packed. When the 'chest burster' emerged the entire audience applauded. It was wild!!
I seen it in Los Angeles and it appears the audience was much less psychopathic than New York.
@@jcarlovitch In Los Angeles? I doubt it.
@@MsAppassionata LA was much different in 1979. Just as one example people that lived there back then were actually American citizens.
Sophie’s instincts are always rock solid!!
Brave! 😊
Sophie, you are so brave and now you get to watch the second movie. Which is the greatest movie of all time.
The first Alien is my favorite in the Franchise, but the sequel Aliens(Special Edition) is outstanding.
Second one is my favorite
The sequel is going to blow you guys away.
Groundbreaking film. Ridley Scott at his best those years. Practical effects to be an example for everyone. Female protagonist like never before.
There is so much that is perfect in this movie, including editing, direction, soundtrack and more and is in fact a film lesson on how to build up tension and atmosphere in a movie, that it can't be replicated by even modern films in our century. Nuts. This film will never age.
H.R. Giger did the concept art for the movie. Before this his most famous commercial work was the iconic 1974 Emerson, Lake and Palmer album cover, Brain Salad Surgery. It is a fold out cover. The woman's dreadlocks look like world of Alien.
The what if is he also did concept art for the 80's version of Dune but they went in another direction.
I’m guessing she doesn’t know this movies tagline:
*”In space, no one can hear you scream”*
"I didn't think this movie would be this terrifying"
I appreciated that toss away comment 👍🏼
You have to watch The thing (1982)
❤❤❤❤
See Aliens !!!!!!
These movies have made such an impact in later movies. You will hear references to stuff made 40 years later. In Galaxy Quest, Sigourney Weaver is sneaking through a ship in the air shafts, and she says, with irritation, "It's always the air shafts."
In the chestburster scene, the cast only had the basic details from the script ("This thing emerges") -- they had no idea what they were about to see as far as the special effects go once the cameras started rolling, so their reactions were real. The special effects crew stuffed the artificial chest full of real guts from a butcher shop and had hoses to shoot out blood (they had the fake torso screwed to the table and actor John Hurt's body was underneath with his head emerging).
Round of applause to Sophie for watching this crazy movie lol.
Please watch Aliens, Prometheus, and Covenant, too
Sophie 🥺😳
Us 😁👏👏👏👏
You guys are great! Greetings from London, England 🧐🇬🇧
well, at least he´s small ... 🙃 now do aliens! they´re even smaller 🤣
20:47 "Why would the cat keep running away like that?" - someone I suspect who has never had to catch a cat who didn't want to be caught 😂
Or someone who has never owned a cat.
This is a classic. Now you have to up the ante and watch Aliens, the sequel.
This movie still holds up. Saw this at 9 years old in the theater with my mother. What a great experience. Equally as scary as jaws to me. Cant wait till you guys get to Aliens(alien2) and Prometheus. The only other “Alien” movies that really matter.
Oh, and btw, you guys are hands down the most attractive reaction couple on the interwebs.Respectfully 👍🏻
All the applause for Sophie! I was a scaredy-cat for years, but seeing this classic for the first time changed my mind
Damn, Sophie was tough as nails the whole time! She doesn't need my support at ALL
@30:20ish... "I hope the alien doesn't understand English!" Wow! =X-D gotta love Sophie! =;-D
Congratulations for watching the classic movie Alien. I have a connection with the making this movie. My father worked on the set of this in England in 1978.
Pinewood Studios ?
A lot of American made movies were made in the studios there back then I think .
I 'm not a Brit but I heard that .
Your reaction to Ash’s head getting knocked off is very similar to the reaction of an usher at the England premiere. The theater usher literally passed out from seeing it.
9:22 one of the best shots in movie history
I hope the two of you will eventually make a youtube channel for cooking! :)
"You can't smoke in space:" - This was the 70s, and you'd smoke wherever there was any space.
Lesson. Always read the fine print. There's no way I'm signing up for a mining job on the condition that I'm also supposed to explore inhospitable new worlds and discover new possibly lethal alien life. Those two jobs seem to involve entirely different skill sets and pay grades. One of my favorite movies though. The story and filmmaking really hold up after almost 50 years. The sequel is so much fun, hopefully you will cover it. Sigourney Weaver is amazing in it.
“I hope that alien don’t understand English“!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 OMG! I thought the same thing when I saw this movie the very first time!!! You are the only person I know who actually thought about that. That was awesome!!!!
Sorry guys- It's _not_ the same thing. The theatrical cut is way better than the director's cut. Here are my recommendations of what versions to watch if you continue with the series:
*Aliens:* The director's cut has several extra scenes, and a lot of extended shots, but the theatrical cut is more suspenseful, and I think that makes it the better first-time viewing experience.
*Alien 3:* It's the assembly cut all the way. The theatrical cut was so bad, people thought it had killed the franchise.
*Alien Resurrection:* If there's a version where they cut out the entire 3rd act, that's the one you should go with.
*Aliens vs Predator 1 & 2:* No longer considered canon; Four hours of your life you won't get back.
*Prometheus:* Alien prequel which some people insist on believing isn't that bad. I give it 2 out of 5 stars.
*Alien Covenant:* Probably the biggest reason Disney now owns the Alien franchise. So bad that word of mouth tanked opening weekend after a strong Friday showing.
I've been trying to avoid hearing as much as possible about *Romulus,* but I _did_ hear a rumor that it disregards everything that came after Aliens (or possibly Alien 3) so you probably don't have to torture yourselves with all the bad ones before you see it.
Sophie you're a trooper for going ahead with this even though you were a bit scared. Great set of films. I was shown these by my Grandfather when I was 8 lol needless to say I was petrified of them until later in life haha So I empathize with you.
21:48 Harry Dean Stanton should have won an Academy Award just based on that scream.
One of my favorite films of all time! I hope you like it, Sophie. It's scary but it's awesome!
Thanks for checking out a classic Sophie!
Bilbo as a Robot in space! ;P
Love this movie! If you enjoyed it I hope you watch the others as well.
Every reactor ever: " why did that happen? What's that?"
Literally 5 seconds before the movie answers why
Just found you guys... and subscribed ;) ... and while I totally understand Sophie not enjoying horror, I beg of you both to please give the series Haunting of Hill House a try. Yes, there are some scares (not in the bloody gory way), but the story is so good that you both will fall in love with it. I promise.
Anyway, continuing on with my viewing here, just had to stop for a moment and beg. Haha
EDIT - Oh yeah, and yes, I am proud of you for giving this movie a try, Sophie!!
One thing to remember, the xenomorph uses the DNA of the host, so the offspring mutates to take on features of the host within its own DNA construct. By doing this, it not only gains physical features, but also the intelligence.
When this movie came out, I was 8 years old. And I remember vividly someone screamed at the theater “LEAVE THE F***ING CAT!!!” It was hilarious!
I saw this when I was five...on a GIANT CURVED SCREEN. This made a huge impression on my little mind.
Sophie is the best.🙂
The best Truckers In Space film...better than "Pigs In Space".
That scene where Ripley finds Dallas and he asks to be killed was not in the theatrical release and has a very important part of the lore of the Xenomorph species. Basically the alien was turning Dallas into an egg, so it can spawn another facehugger.
She said it wasn’t scary but she was jumping around all scared lmao
Watch all four movies, they all rock.
Yo ms Sophie is extremely studious and attentive on many of your reactions! Great attention to detail!
That might be the best Ash reaction I've seen yet!
"It is estimated to contain 100-400 billion stars and at least that number of planets."
Milky Way Galaxy (Wikipedia)
I've always wondered if the whole company back home wasn't being run by a bunch of Ash duplicates. Mair, you are not alone!
The MOST terrifying thing, for me, is that Lambert was wearing pants before, tgen after the alien attacked her, she was hung up, pantless and dripping blood.
I saw this at the theatre with my boyfriend. When that thing popped out of the guy's chest, my boyfriend said, "Look at that bald-headed champ go!" I think it was a coping mechanism to try to show me he wasn't scared. LOL
"I would never go to space"
Hmm, where do you think we all are right now then?
But I get it and I wouldn't want to leave Earth either. The aliens would have to come to me. If I can't get to them in my own car, I'm not going.
Props to Sophie for watching Alien
Hey, at least the black guy didn’t die first.
Its such a stupid trope. 🙄 made up
never does
@@longfootbuddy yes they do
@@glibglob8755 nah, thats just an old hipster saying
@@longfootbuddy you must not watch enough movies. What I’m stating isn’t a “saying”, it’s literally a fact. But, go on with your delusions if you must. I will no longer be responding.
I’m one minute in and she’s already saying she hates sci fi horror 😂😂😂…let’s gooooo
Definitely, scariest movie I've ever seen. I saw it in the movie theatre with Dolby stereo on a wide screen when it came out. It was terrifying. There has been no 'alien' before or since that compares to the alien in this movie. The acting of Sigourney Weaver was impeccable and I felt her terror through every pore in my body. I am amazed that anyone could say it wasn't scary.
Sophie ready with all the right questions. Ex: "Why is it slimy?" She misses nothing.
I’m happy these movies are getting so much love when I was finna,y old enough to watch them they easily became top ten on my horror movie list lol that vent scene is still one of the best jump scares I’ve ever had. I think Ripley is probably one of my favorite final girls I love she wasn’t just blindly curious.
This movie is a masterclass in sci-fi suspense horror
Slow moving plot development that was the late 70's , most of the young generation of today have 30 sec. attention
spans from SM , Tik-Tok and wouldn't understand or like movies like this today .
It's sad how this younger generation's intelligence has declined so much compared to previous generations.
I saw this version and Alien 2 extended version in Cinemas in 2015 thanks Cinemark Chile for this great horror space movies experience.
Awesome Movie and Work Guys, Thanks!!!!😎👍👍👍 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
I'm so proud of you Sophie!
Your faces on the first chest pop🤣🤣 holy shi* that was hilarious 👌
Two scifi thrillers from this same general era are "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Blade Runner." Of course, you also need to see the sequel to this one: "Aliens." 👽
Some of the unanswered questions in this film are addressed in the second.
Veronica Cartwright who plays Lambert in Alien was also in Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Sophie is the best, and Mair is a close, photo-finish 2nd.
This is one of the few handful of reaction channels I follow.
Love you guys.
big applause to Sophie! 👏👏👏👏 I do have a suggestion for a future watch. Now that halloween approaching I thought I'd recommend the 1990 movie " The witches" Silver bullets kill werewolves, crucifixes, holy water, and sunlight kills vampires, but what to do when you gotta handle a witch? This movie has the how to list from A to Z.
One of three most important sci-fi movies ever. This, The Thing, and Bladerunner, also by Scott. And all 3 used models, miniatures, robotics, special effects and practical effects. There's a larger tie in here. In Prometheus the prequel to all. The being in the chair with it's chest blown out is a Engineer. Engineers seed life on planets and watch the progression. If they don't like how the life is progressing they seed another life to wipe out the remaining then they destroy each other. Engineers created humans Aliens and supposedly Predators and gave humans the technology for Replicants and Terminators!! Also Weyland Corp, Tyrell Corp and Cyberdyne Systems. In shots in the movie Aliens, u see resume's of the Crew. Dallas worked for Tyrell Corp 😮😮😮 That's Bladerunner! Cyberdyne Systems supplied tech for Tyrell Corp and Weyland Corp! Weyland Corp did industrial and flight operations for Tyrell Corp! Tyrell Corp is Bladerunner and Weyland Corp is Aliens! Cyberdyne Systems is Terminator! Also the dinner scene, the actor and director knew what was going to happen with the scene but the other actors weren't told all the details. The other actors were told Cane would have a violent reaction and y'all are trying to help him. And when the alien burst out of his chest, and sprayed blood all over, the other actors freaked out! Scott wanted real reactions from the other actors! Also from this movie, in all movies since, beware anyone who drinks milk! And Cameron did Aliens, Cameron did two of the best sequels ever. Aliens and Terminator 2!!
30:14 "I hope the alien don't understand English." Best comment of the reaction, hands down. To be fair, I probably wouldn't want it too either if I were in that situation. lol
Also, please watch the sequel, _Aliens_ if you two enjoyed this one. It's even better, in my opinion and the opinion of many others.
Lambert is an OG trans character! Confirmed in the sequel. No wokeism, no grand-standing, no virtue-signaling, no explaining, just simply being themselves and no one bats an eye. That's how you write great inclusion and representation. All the roles in fact were written to be played by ANY gender, which is why Ripley ending up being played by a woman, when it was so obviously not written as one at that time. Which is why she's an icon. The ROLES were well-wriiten.
Check out the movies Predator(1987), Predator 2(1990), and The Thing(1982).
AWESOME! Well, you guys are watching the Director's' cut.
The xenomorph is the final result of the engineers's experience to recreate their god's blood. A perfect bioweapon, the ultimate punishment.
This is cool for the channel! You guys always kill!
"That's not scary", what are you made of girl? That's one of the scariest movies ever made.
The guy that plays the android is the actor that plays Bilbo Baggins in Lord of the Rings.
Took a bunch 'macho' guys who heard how great it was, & I agreed. (wouldn't release any details) They were expecting a space movie like Star Wars. These 'Macho Guys' acted & screamed like 10 year old girls. One had to run out to the lobby. None of them, NONE, not one, ever allowed me to take them to a movie again. In the pitch black theater, with 200 other people, big speakers & you could feel the rumbling of the ships engine in your ass. Oh hell ya, it was one hell of a wild ride, sorry you missed it.
If you liked the practical effects in this, you should really watch "An American Werewolf in London". It was released around the same time...won an Academy award (I think) for it's effects. Also a great movie. The Werewolf transformation scene in it is legendary.
Most people might already know this, but the actor that plays Ash is Bilbo Baggings, the old one. 🙂#
haha guess it understood english and got itself into the escape pod.
There was a cut version where the alien survives in the end and there's a final scene of it speaking into the comms.
i mean it’s said that xenos inherit memories and habits from their hosts. it’s possible. lol
I love both of your reactions 😂
Sophie, you are brave for watching this classic syfy horror movie!
Fun fact: the black dude is the last one to die in this movie. How refreshing was that?
Please name one horror film where the black person dies first. That made up bollocks is just black people being insecure and paranoid.
Man this reaction is bad ass because they really are clueless about the Xenomorph
