I read somewhere that he actually had a pretty bad alcohol addiction when he was cast. But knowing he had to look in peak shape for the naked shots, he managed to do a lot of exercise that helped him getting a grip on it.
It's not crazy or amazing. What's crazy is how modern filmakers refuse to use practical effects and just throw money into CGI-ing everything. That's why modern movies suck comparatively in terms of special effects. Practical effects when done right will ALWAYS look better.
I was 20 years old when T2 came out and I am so glad I saw it in the theaters. Prior to filming, Linda Hamilton spent three months in intense physical training with a former Israeli Special Forces commando; she could take apart and put back together a gun blindfolded. Robert Patrick, the actor who played the T-1000, went through the same physical training. For the blowing up of Cyberdyne, that was a real building. When this movie came out, a book was published about the making of T2. For Cyberdyne, they found a two-story building and built the facade of a third floor over the second and that is what they blew up in the movie.
Great reaction you two to this action/sci-fi classic sequel. This movie was so huge back in the day that it spawned multiple video games adaptations of it (many featuring the digitized voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger) for several platforms (including Arcade, Pinball, NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis/Maga Drive, Nintendo Game Boy, Sega Game Gear, Commodore 64, PC, Mac, etc)...Fairly recently the 'Arcade 1UP' company made a DIY home version of 'T2: The Arcade Game' that you can pick up at many fine retailers as well.
One of the few sequels that improved in every aspect of the first movie... Soundtrack, Effects (Practical & CGI), Stunts. It's the movie every fan needed.
Agree for the most part, with the exception of one bit of the soundtrack, the off kilter strange time signature rendition of the Terminator theme in the first movie is genuinely unsettling to the human ear, the cleaned up orchestral version used from this movie on (whilst quite beautiful in it's own right) really doesn't compare to the almost alien quality of the clanking cacophony from T1 which really just lets you know you are in for something strange and different. Eddy Furlong dirt biking while blasting Guns N Roses kind of makes up for it though lol
@peterlenham3180 are you speaking g of the flesh pods they used in The Sarah Connor Chronicles? If so, you can't saw they didn't create a flaw. They had to come up with something 17 years later to explain an obvious flaw they didn't see at the time. Also, explain how the story is improved. You can't just say things and expect people to just side with you
In 1991 I was 23 years old and living in Poland. A year earlier I had bought an Amiga 500 and in 1988 I had a VHS video recorder and watched a lot of films on video cassettes. Greetings from Poland🎞🎞📽📽😉😉👍👍
It's nuts what they could do on early 90s computers when you think of how little performance there were in CPUs back then (I had my first 33 mhz PC around that time). They were just so smart about it and pretty much developed superb tech for this movie.
32:15 Fun fact: The "somebody" that flew that helicopter was the guy who was told to get out. He's a Vietnam veteran who is known for his super risky stunts in movies like Predator, Scarface, Furious 7, Blade Runner, and this stunt, where he could have actually died.
That's smart. Army veterans are the most likely to perform dangerous stunts. With that being said, it was still pretty risky, so directors should avoid putting them in these 50/50 life-death scenarios.
I lived in California when they made this movie. (The Bay Area) They shot the office building explosion in Fremont CA. I got to watch it in person. They told the public ahead of time and let big crowds form, from a safe distance and watch the explosion. It was awesome. I couldn't wait for the movie to be released to watch the whole thing after that.
John's foster mother was played by Jenette Goldstein who was Private Vasquez in Aliens. A connection between The Terminator and T2 that most don't notice. In The Terminator Arnold runs over a toy semi-truck. The truck that the T-1000 takes to chase John is painted exactly like the toy truck from the first movie.
I can't remember exactly from the DVD bonus disc back in the 00's but I think Robert Patrick used to run Track & Field and at full sprint was able to keep up with the dirt bike in the parking lot to such an extent that James Cameron had to ask him to slow down but they worked together for the close up shots to show that the T-1000 wasn't breathing or got out of breath
Terminator 2 is a really good classic. Thank you for your reactions to this and other films. You show a lot, you don't make exaggerated gestures, you don't stop every few seconds and you don't tell stories. In short, it's fun to watch with you! Greetings from Germany .
Okay, you got it... my recommendation for the next Arnold movie is "TRUE LIES" (1994). Serious action scenes, a truckload of humor, and a stellar cast. It's white knuckle laughs all the way, you will love it.
Fun Fact: James Cameron was contacted by the FBI because of the nuke scene. They wanted to know where and how he acquired the knowledge to make it so realistic.
The Protectinator. As a kid in the early 90's this movie was absolutely amazing to us and still is. We were just like John Connor. "Easy Money" This was during the birth of CGI and it was mind blowing, just like Jurassic Park. They didn't depend on it, they utilized it in its infancy. There are actually two sets of twins in this, the cop's and Sarah's. I honestly cried at the end the first time. I can't lie. "It's when there's nothing wrong but, you cry any way."
Kudos to the great helicopter stunt pilot Chuck Tamburro, who agreed to do the low bridge underpass TWICE (For the second one, the camera crew refused to film it, as some others pointed out, so Cameron did it himself with a stationary camera at the back of a van) in addition to all the sequences. Cameron was so happy he gave him a small cameo on the film (he's that guy bailing out of the chopper after the iconic "GET OUT". And funny enough after bailing out you can see it's his body shape flying away from the scene lol) . Any and every major action film where there's a chopper, he's the man flying it. Scarface, Predator, Die Hard, that's him.
Yeah it is one of the better of movie examples of a nuclear explosion. First the (literally) blinding light that ignites and burns everything within its radius and then the shockwave that annihilates everything that wasn't first destroyed by the burning light. Chilling stuff.
Well that's never actually been observed so it's impossible to be certain what happens. I doubt people would burn as shown here, more likely the soft tissue would evaporate instantly
The scene at the beginning was shot in a facility with physical objects, then the digital effects like lasers were added later. Everything was done with necessity. & the early 90's was a special time of quality, wonder, goodness - it was golden. Probably could say: The Golden Era. I mean THE Golden Era.
Something I didn't notice for the longest time: Arnold's Terminator started copying John Connor's wry, lopsided grin. Wonderful little detail, and it took multiple viewings over the years for me to see.
The liquid metal effect was first made by James Cameron's team in The Abyss which they were so happy with they refined it and brought it back for this movie :)
The building explosion was real The Helicopter chase was real The Truck chase and drop in the LA waterways was real The bike jump down there was a stunt man and real The behind the scenes special is really worth a watch James Cameron is a legendary director.

"This war doesn't seem to be going well for humanity." Funny you should say that, because the opening future war scene is actually the human resistance breaching Skynet's main facility to shut it down and take control of everything. It's literally humanity winning the last big battle, lol.
The very first thing - Arnold being the good guy, and the final scene - where terminator says he cannot self-terminate and she has to lower him into the steel, both came from Schwarzenegger himself. Actually him playing a positive character was his requirement and that lowering-down was an on-set idea of his
18:31 is a straight up boss fight scene from video games. movie had and still has awesome vibes. And with real stunts, like the vietnam vet who flew the helicopter under the bridge.

It's crazy they used twins for 2 effects in the movie...the guys at the vending machine (the one T100 sticks in the eye) are twins and wild the star of the movie was as well.
Fun facts ... 1) during the dirt bike chase they had to tell the actor T1000 to slow down cause he kept catching the bike .. and 2 .. he trained jot to blink while firing his pistol cause he said robots wouldn't flinch.
One of the best "first time watching " videos I've seen, in large part to the fact you guys obviously know a few things about movie-making and how these things are crafted, as well as the editing work you two did in showing viewers the clips and your reaction without either piece going on for too long. All of which makes for an entertaining time, thanks ! T2 continues to stand the test of time in cinema, representing James Cameron, as well as the vast crew and cast, at the very pinnacle of their careers. We can discuss the next-level special effects or make-up or the terrific casting and acting but we'd be remiss if we didn't explore the top-notch story-telling and pacing. Cameron is to be celebrated for this extremely compelling screenplay and editing where the move-makers made sure that not one moment of our time as viewers, was wasted. Every single second of screen-time moves the story forward and adds value to the experience we have. Definitely in my list of "top 10" films.
Actor Robert Patrick (T-1000) was in such great shape that he ran too fast during the chase scenes. They had to reshoot some scenes because he was catching up to John on his bike. 😆
35:34 The little chunks of metal that we saw starting to melt is gallium which starts melting at 85.568° F. The liquid metal we saw shortly after is, in fact, mercury.
Fun fact, Robert Patrick (T-1000) never blinks in the entire film. That's party down to editing, but Patrick could also apparently do long shots without needing to blink. Also, f you've seen "Hot Fuzz", Simon Pegg runs like the T-1000 as an homage to this film.
A LOT Of the FX in this movie were done with practical effects whenever possible. Twin brothers were cast to do the T-1000 eye stab kill, Linda Hamilton's twin sister helped with the T-1000 Sarah scene, she played as the "Real" Sarah in the background. She also contributed to an iconic deleted scene that was added to extended cuts.
With a worldwide gross of $500+ million and four Academy Awards, this was the biggest film of 1991. The story established in the first two films is properly concluded in the 3D theme park attraction T2: Battle Across Time. The first person shooter Terminator Resistance sets up the story established in the first two films. The song playing on the boombox is "You Could be Mine" by Guns'N'Roses, which was made into a music video to accompany this film
OMG!!! Earlier today I thought "aw, I really would like to watch a new Maplenuts reaction right now!" And here it is!!! The absolute banger! T2!!!! I saw this movie waaaay to early in my life, but its still one of my favorite movies of all time! In general the 80s and early 90s were such a golden age of cinema! Other Arnold movies I would recommend: Conan the Barbarian Red Heat Kindergarten Cop True Lies Last Action Hero I think Conan is a must, although not my favorite. Red Heat is a very good movie featuring James Belushi and is somewhat underrated or often overlooked. Kindergarten Cop is just awesome fun. True Lies is one of the best Action movies ever made, seriously! Its hard to describe how good this movie is. And Last Action Hero is an interesting story. It was a huge flop, even Arnold hated it, but it gained a huge cult following later and a lot of people realized that its actually quite a good movie. You should watch it towards the end of your Arnold run to get the most out of it. I personally really love it and its in my top 3 Arnold movies. It has action, humor and gets pretty dark sometimes. And it was basically the dream of every boy come true, haha. Honorable mentions: Runningman, Total Recall and Jingle all the way! The first 2 are Arnold-classics, but in my opinion didn't age that well. Still good movies, but not great. And while Jingle all the way gets a lot of hate, I liked it. The rare Arnold Christmas movie. But it was towards the end of the Arnold-Era and a bit weaker. Its one of those movies that when you were zappen through TV and it was running, you just watchig it. And it was an opportunity for a dad to watch Arnold with his kids.

Robert Patrick's audition vid was just 5 minutes of him staring into the camera _menacingly_
I read somewhere that he actually had a pretty bad alcohol addiction when he was cast. But knowing he had to look in peak shape for the naked shots, he managed to do a lot of exercise that helped him getting a grip on it.
To think that this movie is as old as it is, yet the special effects still look so amazing...it is crazy.
Absolutely pioneering for the time, what do you expect from Cameron?
It is only crazy if you think that newer always means better.
@@Diomedeneexactly older films look so much better than now a days
James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron!
It's not crazy or amazing. What's crazy is how modern filmakers refuse to use practical effects and just throw money into CGI-ing everything. That's why modern movies suck comparatively in terms of special effects. Practical effects when done right will ALWAYS look better.
Chandra:" I LOVE explosions!"

What about Linda's twin sister, wouldn't she also need to go through the same physical training to still look like her for particular scenes?
How did she get so buff by going through training with a baby killer?
The story did not improve. Plus, they added a flaw. The T-1000 is not coated with living tissue. How did it teleport? T1 is the better movie.
It's great but there is a certain appeal of the tightness of T1, just lean and mean and showing what can be done with more imagination than budget.
@@TateorsomethingIts been explained how the T1000 travelled through time. Of course the story improved. T2 is superior.
You can't just say things and expect people to just side with you
True Lies (1994) - another fun Arnold/Cameron combo.
With that he she Jamie Lee Curtis
In 1991 I was 23 years old and living in Poland. A year earlier I had bought an Amiga 500 and in 1988 I had a VHS video recorder and watched a lot of films on video cassettes.
Greetings from Poland🎞🎞📽📽😉😉👍👍
It's nuts what they could do on early 90s computers when you think of how little performance there were in CPUs back then (I had my first 33 mhz PC around that time). They were just so smart about it and pretty much developed superb tech for this movie.
T-1000 being in shocked by his frozen hand being broken off was funny lol and clever
One take of that stunt was already dangerous enough, but they did it twice. I wouldn’t. Well, then again, it’s not like John Landis was directing.
The cameraman refused to film the stunt because of the danger - he didn't want to film someone dying. So Cameron filmed it himself.
I saw this in a theatre in Japan just after it came out and the whole cinema cheered when Sarah was revealed doing pull-ups on the upturned bed.
She was the perfect amount of jacked for this movie. Like lean and strong, but not big, so she'd be fast too. Bruce Lee strong.
@yt45204 No, that's a recent thing, like incel forums and Jordan Peterson videos.
Was it in English?
@yt45204 "Always"? In your experience? What are you? 16 years old?
I lived in California when they made this movie. (The Bay Area) They shot the office building explosion in Fremont CA. I got to watch it in person. They told the public ahead of time and let big crowds form, from a safe distance and watch the explosion. It was awesome. I couldn't wait for the movie to be released to watch the whole thing after that.
One of the greatest sequels ever. Up there with Empire Strikes Back, Rocky 2, Aliens, Return of the King, Endgame.
The Dark Knight
Gremlins 2
I think "get down" would have been the next "I am your father" if the trailers didn't spoil it.
Godfather 2 is the greatest sequel of them all.
Full stop.
@@NeverMeAlwaysYou no it’s not. Full stop.
The Cyberdyne building was a real explosion. There's an office building that was going to be demolished so Cammeron bought it and blew it up!
In my opinion, True Lies is Arnie's best movie. Also directed by James Cameron.
The reactions of the streamers are priceless. Thanks guys!)
Commando… is a classic Arnold movie, very entertaining
Linda Hamilton's switch from bad ass to frightened when she sees the T101 is one of my favorite bits of acting in any movie.
Last Action Hero. Great Arnold actikn comedy with a fabulous soundtrack.
And Robert Patrick (the T-1000) makes a cameo in it too... 😉
@@MLJ7956Robert Patrick also does a cameo as the T-1000 in the movie Wayne's World.
The dream sequence is pretty damn accurate. If you were in a certain zone, you’d combust and then get blown apart. Absolutely horrifying.
That , and when John is talking to him the T-800 is sitting slightly hunched and more relaxed like a human
It's rare to find someone who doesn't expect the twist at 9:30. Awesome.
he's seen it before, many times, nice acting though
The liquid metal effect was first made by James Cameron's team in The Abyss which they were so happy with they refined it and brought it back for this movie :)
In high school i'd call it the Arnie-athon and just watch all his classics. most are def worth the watch.
Literally JUST finished watching ur reaction to the first one and im pumped to watch this reaction so soon! You guys are great, awesome commentary!
The building explosion was real
The Helicopter chase was real
The Truck chase and drop in the LA waterways was real
The bike jump down there was a stunt man and real
The behind the scenes special is really worth a watch James Cameron is a legendary director.
To be fair, the bike jumping down was on wires which were digitally painted out so "real" sort of...
@@Jaydogg222 ohhh ok ;)
@@Jaydogg222 still a real bike jumping down, though. the bonus material is indeed brilliant to watch .... if for nothing else then Arnie's humour in the makeup chair
In subsequent movies, we found out whom Arnold's T 800 was modeled after but whom was the T1000 modeled after from Skynet?? Storywise, I mean.
"Action, explosions, and butts."
That sounds like a winning formula to me.
"Hold onto your butts."
It's why nothing will ever top the 80s.
im pretty sure "Action, explosions, and butts." were Mother Theresa's last words.
@@joegreene7619 This was the production goal for every 80s action movie, that's true.

For fun, on your own time, you should check out Arnie's first film. It's 'Hercules in New York', from 1969, when he was 22. Originally his voiced was dubbed, but the DVD has the undubbed version, with his heavy Austrian accent. You'll see how far he's come.
Has anyone watched Cactus Jack (or The Villain) from 1979? This time Arnold stars in a comedy western.
Or even as a reaction. I think every reaction channel could use some not-so-good movies for the fun of it.

little bit of trivia, Guns N Roses sang You Could Be Mine for the movie, the music video even has T2 incorporated into it and as a little hidden cross-promotion, the shotgun Arnie has is hidden in a box of roses. Gun and roses!

"This war doesn't seem to be going well for humanity."
Funny you should say that, because the opening future war scene is actually the human resistance breaching Skynet's main facility to shut it down and take control of everything. It's literally humanity winning the last big battle, lol.
Great reaction guys to one of the best sequels ever This movie has some of the best action ever
I loved "Tod's" line "Hey! Shut up you stupid piece of shit." Makes me laugh everytime.
As far as Arnold movies go, I would consider True Lies as peak Arnie. And Last Action Hero is a really fun classic as well.
Something not many people notice is when Arnie is carrying his Shotgun in the roses. Its literally Guns and Roses. Because they did a song for the movie. Love that little nod.
The T1000s noise at the end is the same noise Cameron used for the Alien queen in Aliens
FUN FACT John's Foster mom is actually Vasquez from Aliens
The best Arnold movies are T1 and T2, Predator, Total Recall and True lies.
If you get through those there are other good ones: Commando, The Running Man, Conan The Barbarian, Kindergarten Cop, Last Action Hero.
Fun fact: Robert Patrick (the guy who played the T-1000) and some friends of his in college were out on a boat in Lake Erie when it capsized and he had to swim three miles to shore to get help while his friends waited on the overturned boat.
In the first movie he said he could base his whole career on Reese . Now it looks like he's doing that to Sarah. To further his career.
They really blew up a building, the truck really drove into the canal, and Robert Patrick really walked through the bars
So, fun fact - Linda Hamilton has a twin sister. Practical effects fir the win! More Arnold...
- Total Recall
- The Running Man
😄👍
It's crazy they used twins for 2 effects in the movie...the guys at the vending machine (the one T100 sticks in the eye) are twins and wild the star of the movie was as well.
Fun facts ... 1) during the dirt bike chase they had to tell the actor T1000 to slow down cause he kept catching the bike .. and 2 .. he trained jot to blink while firing his pistol cause he said robots wouldn't flinch.
yeah but there is no way he can outrun a dirtbike, so the bike couldn't have gone very fast, could it? of couse not!
True Lies = Arnold, comedy and action. A must watch
I love Robert Patrick who played the T-1000 I got to meet him at a terminator 2 panel in 2022 at the steel city con in Monroeville Pennsylvania.
A lot of people tell reactors not to watch T3 but I’m watching the video if you do. Also, check out the movie Predator 2(1990).
Love Budnik as the friend. I watched Salute your Shorts on Nickelodeon as a kid.
The original theatrical trailer gave away the twist. Luckily I saw the movie before I saw the trailer.
The T1000 may not have a scratch on it after being shattered, but in the full version, he shows signs of malfunction.
Yes, the freezing caused the mimicry glitches.
He was a track and field star at Bowling Green. Not just in shape but actually had trained as a runner
Didn't he suffer a knee injury? I kinda remember hearing that. If so, imagine how fast he'd be in the running scenes. LOL.
I love how he modelled his movements on a cat stalking prey.
35:34 The little chunks of metal that we saw starting to melt is gallium which starts melting at 85.568° F. The liquid metal we saw shortly after is, in fact, mercury.
For me the scariest part is robots are no longer science fiction. And that thing with AI getting smarter every day-terminators are in our near future
I don't think it was one of the Boston Dynamic robots but I've seen a clip of one fitted with a huge ass flamethrower just laying waste to an area.
There won't be robots taking over any time soon, they'll be killing for the person behind the keyboard.
32:19 the chopper under the bridge stunt wasn't approved, but Cameron did it anyway.
Kindergarten Cop for a light hearted Arnold flick!
After the first Terminator, nobody thought they'd ever be rooting for him in the second movie.
She's so lucky a boy with a mustache 🤩
Oh my 😂
Fun fact, Robert Patrick (T-1000) never blinks in the entire film. That's party down to editing, but Patrick could also apparently do long shots without needing to blink. Also, f you've seen "Hot Fuzz", Simon Pegg runs like the T-1000 as an homage to this film.
Try the other great Arnold / James Cameron pairing, "True Lies"
Guns N Roses on the soundtrack, and a gun in roses in the movie. Very clever. 😁
Other Arnold movies I would recommend:
Conan the Barbarian
Red Heat
Kindergarten Cop
True Lies
Last Action Hero
I think Conan is a must, although not my favorite.
30:04 I never get tired of hearing it ♥️
One of my favorite Arnold movies that always flies under the radar and was a lot of fun is Last Action Hero. I think you’d really like that one
I've been waiting for this one.
9:58 - Actor robert patrick used to run track. He actually trained running for this movie. They had two reshoot, the motorcycle chase scene multiple times because he kept catching up to themotorcycle.
Spoiler: Explosions.
John’s foster mom is played by Jeanette Goldstein. It’s hard to see it immediately, but she was also in ‘Aliens’ as Pvt. Vasquez and the Irish mother putting her children to bed as the ship was sinking in ‘Titanic’.
The step mom is Vasquez from Aliens. You'll see her again in Predator 2 along with Bill Paxton.
She's also a passenger on the Titanic, and of course, Paxton is in that as well.
She's also in Lethal Weapon 2
And Jenette Goldstein is in a little known movie called "Near Dark". An awesome vampire movie, also starring Lance Henriksen and the late great Bill Paxton. Hopefully someone's reaction channel picks it up for a Halloween viewing!
I always recommend "Near Dark," a b-movie, but still fun, and has most of the cast from Aliens, including Vasquez, Bishop, Hicks, and Hudson.
She's not in Predator 2
From '84 to '97 Cameron in his prime. This, Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, True Lies, and Titanic, all classics in their own right. Movies that pushed the limits on film techniques, had great stories, characters, & dialog, and box office hits.
