"My friend helped me out so big thanks to him" This friend then, went on to create one of the most beloved 3D indie platformers known as "Pseudoregalia" a year later.
Love the changes, this game keeps looking better. Small suggestion: make sure that the newspaper launcher doesn't break up the flow, a lot of older 3D platformers make that mistake. Keep up the amazing work.
Maybe the stamps need to be returned to previously stamped letters to be delivered after some sort of accident, where they work similarly to moons in odyssey, which are returned to a mail slot.
This looks so good! This is the first dev log I've come across and the game looks so clean. It already has so much polish this early. Great job making Goobi and listening to the community. I will make sure to keep checking in on the game in the next months or years! Great job!
I love the “gun” hehe. Can’t wait for the final design. This is just me spitting ideas so you don’t need to care much. I just thought it would be cool if their was a reference to Goobi’s old model. Also it would be cool if you could shoot newspapers in mailboxes or doorsteps of people houses. So the player doesn’t always have to put down a newspaper. If they can. Sry for the long rant but I see so much potential, great job this devlog and can’t wait for the nexts updates.
The new robot model definitely won me over in this video with the new additions you've added :) you could still repurpose the old model by using it as an enemy type/NPC, or even bring back glorious cheat codes and make it a player model unlocked by a certain code Also would like to suggest having the "gun" possibly be independently controlled like FLUDD in Super Mario Sunshine. It would really help speed up the gameplay scene further and creates a skill gap
Just found out about your Devlog vids, I'm already in love with them. One usage for the shooting mechanic could be bossting Goobi to the opposite direction he shoots at. Could be cool for highjumps and such!
The progress is looking super kool. Really like the concept idea of the new model. Also the running animation slowing down and speeding up while going up and down really adds to realism to the game. Keep it up! :)
This is the fist devlog of yours ive seen and your character gives the whole game idea, nice character design. Cant wait what to see what's next, just earned a sub. Edit: I just finished the rest of the video and it was great but I feel like you should of put more of the gun into it since it was the main focus of the video.
thanks for watching and subbing! I def should have prob gone into more detail about the newspaper launcher, in the next devlog i might break it down and explain how i’m doing it, i just thought not many people may care about the programming side of things
this is the first devlog I've seen for this, but maybe since this game looks like a mario type game you could use the stamps as area currency like in mario odyssey. and you could customize the stamps based on the area too. so if its like a forest area you could make the stamps have trees on them, or a beach area maybe like a surfboard, shark fin, or a coconut something like that. and maybe as a way to make everybody happy with the character design, you could set up an option or make universal shop items so people can choose which design they want to use. i like how this game looks and i think it will be a lot of fun. keep up the good work brobot.
I love this dev log please keep going! I think something cool regarding the gun would be that if it's used in combat, its not just straight up shooting at the enemies until they die but instead looking for weak points, like big red areas on their backs or something that you need to shoot to disable them?
@@R1GBYdev Yeah I was thinking it'd be cool for bosses. Maybe it attacks you and gets dizzy or tired or something like that after and then you hit the weak spot.
Hey! Just found your channel! I gotta say, I am IN LOVE with Goobi. Everything from his design, animations, and his name just makes me want a plush of him right as the game comes out! I've been wanting to get into UE Game Dev myself for a while and it seems like for the most part there aren't too many devs that use UE so it's nice to see a game this early already having a ton of personality and quality. I can't wait to see this game, and Goobi, take shape into a fun game!
I know it’s been awhile since the last devlog, but you’ve made some good progress, and you’re definitely heading in the right direction to completing this game, so take as long as you need.
THIS IS AMAZING! Le Gunbi has arrived I am not sure about my idea but i'll suggest it anyway: Maybe every "world" (A set of levels in a relatively similiar setting) can give you a new weapon, for example an underground world can give you a package launcher, with EXPLODING PACKAGES, which gives you opportunities for a lot of secrets and interesting puzzles as well just being fun. I mean, who doesnt love to demolish enemies by going boom? Some other thoughts: The art looks amazing. I love the little bag strap she added, but i feel like blue eyes would fit goobi more, as it is the staple mailman-associated color. For collectibles, there could be some new hats and\or bags! For example, goobi could get a rainbow propeller hat like in some old cartoons. I feel like just editing the gliding animation's model would be easy but again, i am not a dev so it's up to you. Overall, another amazing devlog for a sure to be amazing game.
Love the game direction. A few things I'd love to see. With the stamps keep them a secondary collectable but make it 1 per level and have them be stamps from that place like how you would get different stamps from different cities/counties in real life. Also I would love to see your movement be more physics based and less set speeds. So when you run down hill you gain speed and keep it long instead of it dropping off at a set speed. Would bring a higher skill cap to keep players engaged for longer and could bring a speedrunner community when the game is ready
Thanks for watching it! Yah physics based movement is sometimes hard to get right, right now this works but in the future who knows, maybe ill try it out!
Nicely done! Two extremely minor feedback points for the future. The collectable stamps UI moves a lot which is a bit destracting. Additionally, when you collect a stamp the counter flashes red. Red flashes are usually reserved for negative effects in games. I would advice you to follow affordances. Change the flash color to something positive like gold. Otherwise it looks pretty cool. Love the movement which is quite key.
Thanks! And yes, i did remove the moving UI anims, they were distracting, and i might change it to yellow or gold that makes sense. Thanks for the input!
Aside from collecting Letters to unlock even more levels, maybe you could make it so Stamps are collectibles for bonus levels, and is collected through secret places you would need to find.
I really like the gun. I have two ideas for it: There should be two types of ammo. A rolled up newspaper ammo which is the one you have, and a sticky-typee newspaper that spreads out and slowly falls after being launched a bit. A bit like the hat when you glide mid-air. I think this would be great for puzzles. Imagine aiming somewhere and it falls onto a button or you have to get across a gap so you make a path! Maybe there is a stealth level and you have to blind the guards using the newspaper as it falls down to their eyes. Maybe wind could push this news paper making some tricky levels/puzzles. You could put it on a button that activates different fans so you could guide the news paper using wind and buttons! A problem I can think of is how to get rid of it, and I think if you combine these two then it will solve the problems: After a few seconds (about 5 seconds) it will fade away and if you have more than a certain amount of these newspaper then it would get rid of one. (Think of these numbers as the order placed) 1 is shot, 2 is shot, 3 is shot, 4 is shot and 1 disappears, 5 is shot and 2 disappears etc.. The next idea is bullet time. When at max speed or falling down if you aim everything will slow down and you have time to aim. (Just like The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild) It would be really easier to use. I haven't played the game so I am not sure if you have already added bullet time but if not please do so! Sorry if this is such a long comment.
@@R1GBYdev Ah 😅 life has a tendency to get in the way sometimes... I took a break from my platformer to work on a different game for a bit. Hopefully I can show people soon! Your progress is really inspiring!
Would be interesting if the newspapers you shot out could interact with each other and the environment in different ways. For instance, piling a bunch in one spot could make a 3 time use trampoline that you could use to get up to higher areas or shooting one into the water could have it inflate and create a platform. On the second idea (and in a completely random scenario) it could first be inflated and then be lifted up by air drafts or something to be used as a platform over a pit or something.
you could use the blast from the gun as another jump to get to hard-to-reach places (edit) you could also use it as a boost for get-out-of-sticky-situations type of movement or just move around faster.
An idea i had was that you could make it so you have to shoot the newspaper through boxes or something along those lines loving the game so far as well
Hey, love the project and just played the demo. A little feedback, It doesn't feel like you have an input buffer. It could be worth looking into for better feeling controls. If you already do have one I'd defiantly increase the buffer frames. Really promising, good stuff man :)
Hey! thanks a ton for playing the demo, the demo is really rough imo, and the current build feels 100000% better to play, so soon a new demo will be out
I think the design for the stamps look awesome! And you could make it so if you unlock enough stamps you get an extra bonus level which could unlock a secret skin or upgrade!
The newspaper machanic could be used to throw papaers to robot citizens as a sidequest, ypu could beat the game without delivering newspapers but you could get collactables doing the side quests
yooo u made the movement so detailed which looks really sick!! keep up bro amazing work. also here's smol story xD I literally just found ur channel today and was watching ur latest video and you released a video today, aaand not only this but I saw a coment on ur latest devlog about the same damn unable some super natural powers bro lol anyway great work imma join ur discord :DD
If you're still looking for feedback on if levels should be open or linear, I suggest taking the approach of having linear levels connected by an open hub world, best of both worlds
I liked this approach to prototyping, make a system feel good and then move on to the next. I do it like this too, don't let anyone make u rush to do a certain aspect of the game you don't want to do now.
Ya thanks for understanding that, i’m very keen on making sure my systems work at a solid star before i add anything else that’s new, it like building blocks, 1 at a time
I was thinking with some of the collectibles, you have the stamps...what if you have some envelopes as well? So for example, if you collect 100 stamps in a level, and when you complete the level, the stamps form a envelope than can be used for premium upgrades or premium unlocks within the game (premium as in unlock secret levels, cosmetics, abilities etc)
@@R1GBYdev oh ok it was just goobi stopped when he shooted and i thought it was like that but thats good cuse i think it would slow down the gameplay too much if it wasnt like that
I just found out this channel exists, now I'm gonna watch it! Also, I recommend watching Fairlii's videos, he also does devlogs but is more interested in 2D pixel art style.
ive been following this devlog since the start and the game looks like its gonna be so much fun to play and speedrun and as a speedrunner pls pls pls make all cutscenes skipable i know this is small and in the future but its the small things that count ya know
This game looks great and the devlogs even though I have seen many and only follow few its a very nice change from rpg/fps game and a lot more chill also the gameplay in the background is just pleasing to my eye. I do have something I want to point out though it could've just been my computer tweaking or me not being able to remember exactly, I remember when I played the demo 2 months ago I remember feeling like my inputs were very slightly delayed Idk I just after the last platforming game I played being super Mario odyssey felt like it should've been snappier but again could've been my computer acting up or my memory not being able to remember what it was 2 months ago or how super Mario odyssey felt 3 years ago.
Thanks for the kind words! I havent seen anyone say anything about input delay, but if it helps, the movement is A LOT snappier and tighter to control right now.
love the game so far, maybe there could be a shop where you buy new different types of newspapers to shoot with the stamps, the different types could be like flaming papers. Also, maybe as a melee attack goobi shoves the enemy into a mail box or something.
People jumping and dashing on their own (without apparent need/obstacle) is just a form of expression, also helps players to get better feel for the basics, and levels need relax sections inbetween predefined caution/challenge zones. It's bad when a game is one intensity after another. Also the relax segments shouldn't end too quickly by zooming through them on a high speed. There needs to be a timed pace. An easy to see example would be classic Sonic games, where player can just hold move button and the character does loops n stuff for a few seconds. This way a player can see something interesting on the screen, while relaxing. Then character gets safely stopped by a rock or a ledge right before the next caution zone.
Sounds like this could make a pretty good speed running game. Where you have deliver papers with your newspaper gun and collect enough stamps to post yourself at the end of the level.
u should make it so that to move to the next level you need enough stamps to travel and in each level the stamps look different to fit the theme of the next level
doppeeeee, one thing you prob start working on is a pause with a setting menu if you release another demo. ( pls add an option to lower the graphics for ya boys with bad computers)
It always makes me so happy when I watch one of these dev logs. Your content is amazing and the effort you put into the game and editing is incredible, keep it up. Yo! glad to see a new face! Glad to hear u like it so far, and my suggestion would be to start off slow and make smaller projects, other than that best of luck and thx for subbing!
Maybe stamps can be used for costumes and collectibles where you can win them in something like the gatcha machine in Astro's Playroom(PS5),or use them for unlocking secret areas, how does that sound?
@@R1GBYdev Idk why my mind came with this but maybe upgrades??,to look a little like Supraland(Steam/PC) where you can get some upgrades to help List of upgrades(basic ones) 1Higher shoot distance 2Map(yep,to see where you are) 3Double jump?(needs to be very expencive) 4(not a upgrade)tasklist, for side quests :D 5Never gonna give you up 6Never gonna let you down(srry)

You could put it on a button that activates different fans so you could guide the news paper using wind and buttons! A problem I can think of is how to get rid of it, and I think if you combine these two then it will solve the problems:
After a few seconds (about 5 seconds) it will fade away and if you have more than a certain amount of these newspaper then it would get rid of one.

(Just like The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild) It would be really easier to use. I haven't played the game so I am not sure if you have already added bullet time but if not please do so!

I just found out this channel exists, now I'm gonna watch it! Also, I recommend watching Fairlii's videos, he also does devlogs but is more interested in 2D pixel art style.
glad ya found me! i’ll check out that channel!
you should make dashing on the ground into a short roll, game is looking awesome so far! good luck
ive been thinking about iplementing a roll dodge, maybe!
@@R1GBYdev awesome!
ive been following this devlog since the start and the game looks like its gonna be so much fun to play and speedrun and as a speedrunner pls pls pls make all cutscenes skipable i know this is small and in the future but its the small things that count ya know
thanks for supporting it! and of course cutscenes will be skippable, no matter how much it hurts me
This game looks great and the devlogs even though I have seen many and only follow few its a very nice change from rpg/fps game and a lot more chill also the gameplay in the background is just pleasing to my eye.
@@R1GBYdev extravagant. (epic)
love the game so far, maybe there could be a shop where you buy new different types of newspapers to shoot with the stamps, the different types could be like flaming papers. Also, maybe as a melee attack goobi shoves the enemy into a mail box or something.
great ideas! and glad to hear you like the project so far!
Great to see another devlog from you!
glad you enjoyed it!
AYYY finally a new devlog keep it up!!!
The game looks so polished! Really cool
GOOOOOBIIIII!! 💙
MUSHIIIIIIII (i dont have emojis on my pc)
This game looks amazing can't wait once your finished with this
Nice progress since the last devlog!
thx!
Will it take 1-2 months

Yay, you gave the walking Portal radio a gun!
I think the gun adds a very important previously unrepresented group: Gun
Sounds like this could make a pretty good speed running game. Where you have deliver papers with your newspaper gun and collect enough stamps to post yourself at the end of the level.
u should make it so that to move to the next level you need enough stamps to travel and in each level the stamps look different to fit the theme of the next level
this game is looking amazing. I'm looking forward to the release!
this has so much potential keep it up!
thanks!
🔥🔥🔥 as per usual
thx homie
doppeeeee, one thing you prob start working on is a pause with a setting menu if you release another demo. ( pls add an option to lower the graphics for ya boys with bad computers)
You could make the stamps unique depending on level / world like the purple coins from super mario odyssey
reading my mind huh?!
Good job, can't wait for the next devlog
Using the gun to activate checkpoints would be cool
This game is looking so cute! Can't wait to see where it goes int he future!
Thanks, and me too!
Wow man, your editing has improved and I appreciate that. What program do you use for editing ? Btw, the new concept art for Goobi is neat.
Thanks! I use Preimere Pro, and thanks glad to hear so many people are happy with the final design
Idea: goobi should get the gun from a “promotion” from beating a certain level, achievement or a quest
I was in process of upgrading to UE5 but put it on hold. It doesn't really make sense for my game either especially right now. Great work so far!
Yah UE4 i feel is still an AMAZING engine, and ue5 doesn't make much sense, glad you like it so far!
4:23 i noticed that the shadow dosen't get smaller when jumping i think that's kinda wierd and feel's unatural
hmm, it should be scaling up and down, i’ll take a look at it
You are really talented... it's looking really good.
thanks a ton!
If you are going to have unlockable costumes then it might be easy and fun to have two of them be the old two versions of Goobi :)
Totally possible!
It always makes me so happy when I watch one of these dev logs. Your content is amazing and the effort you put into the game and editing is incredible, keep it up. I’m personally trying to learn how to code since I have mastered modeling and wondered if you have any tips or suggestions to help me out. Again, great content and I am a new subscriber. 😎👍
Yo! glad to see a new face! Glad to hear u like it so far, and my suggestion would be to start off slow and make smaller projects, other than that best of luck and thx for subbing!
Glad to be part of the channel! Also I’m curious what coding software you use for unity? 🧐
there should be a main hub
Maybe stamps can be used for costumes and collectibles where you can win them in something like the gatcha machine in Astro's Playroom(PS5),or use them for unlocking secret areas, how does that sound?
I like the idea of costumes, hats, or maybe even secret levels! Not bad ideas!
Thank you
@@R1GBYdev Idk why my mind came with this but maybe upgrades??,to look a little like Supraland(Steam/PC) where you can get some upgrades to help
List of upgrades(basic ones)
1Higher shoot distance
2Map(yep,to see where you are)
3Double jump?(needs to be very expencive)
4(not a upgrade)tasklist,for side quests :D
5Never gonna give you up
6Never gonna let you down(srry)
I can already see it:
Goobi: Don't you dare turn me into a marketable plushie.
HAHA
This game looks and feels amazing! You should give him Dr. Phil as his default voice!
thanks, lmao imagine, it would fit perfectly
Keep going Brodie! Great work
You could have Goobi collect stamps to send him self in a parcel to secret levels.
not a bad idea!
I finally have time to watch this video, but still I'm pretty sad right now
