    I'll say it 'til I'm blue in the face.
    1) I'm so grateful to be a part of this project.
    2) You're an inspiration to so many. I've always dreamed of living in the woods and being able to quickly go outside and gain instant inspiration on a whim. You also put so much care into everything you do. Your game, managing your new home, raising Findus. Just, EVERYTHING. You're sorta kinda a big deal, imo.
    3) Don't shave your beard.

    Looking at the levels and how theyre designed, I reckon it'd be cool if there was some sort of urgency required, like timed jumps, or enemies chasing the player so that the player has to think quick on there feet!

    Wow both the demo and the house looks amazing! 🤩
    Question:
    Going forward with the game, are there going to be multiple areas/levels or will the game be sort of open world?

    • @WhyKev
      @WhyKev  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you thank you :D So I was planning on having multiple levels that all had a similar structure where it was one open area with linear paths. Then just have the different levels in new environments (snow mountains, green forest etc)
      But I’ll try to spice it up so it doesn’t get repetitive :)

    Amazing work so far 👌🤩
    If I may share my thoughts: the game looks really linear for the moment and the mechanics of the red rotating knob (RRK) is too much used compare to the movement/jumps mechanics that looks awesome (really good vibes of a Mario game's jumps mechanics).
    You could implement and make the distinction between the following:
    - the RRK is mandatory to progress the level and can't be turned more once it reaches the complete set up;
    - a second RK could be used to expose a challenge: you hit the 2ndRK which, by one hit only, exposes the complete challenge (plateforms related jumps mechanics) and it slowly goes/rotates back to its off-state, hiding the challenge. This knob could be used as often as the player need it ;
    - finally, a third RK could be more like the RRK but would act like a switch in different states and can be rotated forever: this could be used for multiple paths area where you have a central point on the map that allows you to go into different directions.
    The ideas I presented here is just a way to add more variations based on the RRK you already well implemented. You should check some Mario games to see how often and how they implement new mechanics.
    Keep going the good work 💪

    • @WhyKev
      @WhyKev  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thank you so much Sébastien for sharing your feedback! I agree that I might be using it too much. A part of me think it's not a bad idea to have the first level a little linear while future levels are more open. But we'll see where I end up :D
      - Having the RRK stop or "pop off" when it reach the end state is something I wanted to do.
      - Slowly hiding the object is something that's in the game but not shown in the video really that much (I noticed that now)
      - One part of the cut content use different rotation states and actually in one point (not shown in video) actually used for multiple paths where one is leading to a puzzle for a secret.
      But overall I should add some new ideas to vary the gameplay in general.
      Thank you so much :)

  • @morganlak4337
    @morganlak4337 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am so jealous of the house wow! The demo also looks great, the big concern I have looking at it is that the gameplay doesn't seem to include too many interesting decisions to make on a small scale, things like "how exactly do I cross this gap? Do I need to time my dive at a specific moment, do I need to wall jump early to get enough height" small considerations like that are what make platformers engaging imo. The spinning switches also look visually incredible but maybe are lacking those kinds of decisions as well.
    I haven't played it tho obviously, so it's likely I just don't know what the game is actually like! Just an outsider looking in

    • @WhyKev
      @WhyKev  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No but this is perfect feedback, it’s sometimes easy to miss thoughts like that when you have the rest of the project to think about!

    Your game shows a lot of potential. Maybe you could take the Mario Odyssey approach, where you can continue exploring even after you reach your goal.
    Making maps is an incredibly hard task a long with making a platforming playground. I completely understand if you don’t take this approach. I was just thinking of adding something from one of my favorite 3D platformers.
    Either way, your game so far shows a lot of promise. I’m definitely keeping an eye on this upcoming game.

    Being honest with you. I just came across your channel. It's my first video im watching and I must say the game seems beautiful with nice mechanics. But in my opinion level design presented in material is lacking. At 2:12 you are presenting "gradually increasing in complexity" design. Although all we get to do as a player is hit couple times the same looking gear. making level harder as a platformer. Then why not making level looking like this from the begining.
    Solution I see is to make this level like this:
    1st part leave as it is.
    2nd part add another gear and make them correlate with each other by making them connected with both "towers" diffrently. Example -> to complete this part you need towers to be at height of 2 and 4. Gear "A" elevates both towers by 2 and Gear "B" descends first tower by 2 and second by 1. Solution -> AABBA
    3rd part could work as 2nd with not such an obvious solution from the start.
    Overall the game looks nice and I'll glady see it progress :)
