SOS Response and DNA Repair

- The SOS response is a global response to DNA damage in which the cell cycle is arrested and DNA repair and mutagenesis are induced. The system involves the RecA protein. The RecA protein, stimulated by single-stranded DNA, is involved in the inactivation of the LexA thereby inducing the response. It is an error-prone repair system that is attributed to mutagenesis.
SOS genes include lexA, recA, uvrA, uvrB, and uvrD.

Much more concise than Shomu's Biology. I like that you get right into it as opposed to taking forever to introduce a new topic.
Thanks Carl for appreciation....
I know this world has no time so , i always introduce topic as quickly as possible so that we learn what we have to....
Almost all my videos are around 5-6 mins.
Thanks again

nice. I have a question. Can you tell me how the cell regulates the preparation of uvrC and uvrD proteins and uvrA protein as they all come under the same promoter?
I have not read any specific regulation for uvrC ,D, and A proteins but i can say the majority of gene expression is controlled via DNA methylation and for these genes to be regulated it must be the CpG islands present on the genes that on/off the expression of any gene by Methylation of CpG islands.

Is it "Translesion " or "translation" DNA synthesis?
at 2:54 It is Translesion synthesis
The Translesion synthesis is a DNA damage tolerance process that allows the DNA replication machinery to replicate past DNA lesions such as thymine dimers or AP sites. It involves switching out regular DNA polymerases for specialized translesion polymerases (i.e. DNA polymerase IV or V, from the Y Polymerase family), often with larger active sites that can facilitate the insertion of bases opposite damaged nucleotides.

So how does it make SOS repair a direct reversal repair mechanism? Since it is the last resort for the cell to repair extensive damages.
this happens to occur in bacteria as a global response mechanism.
@@hussainbiology Okay so all the direct reversal mechanism occur only in prokaryotes right?
@@anushkasupakar3305 Na na....It occurs in Mammmals too.
Like Photolyases have vast diversity found within bacteria , fungi, plants and in animals too.
Furthermore direct reversals in mammals by MGMT protein
✓ AlKb mediated direct reversal in E.Coli.
@@hussainbiology thank you for the clarification! Thanks a lot. Take care!
