      Bobby Hartanto believe it or not, they both get about the same. I’d say around 28 mpg.

    Two fabulous engine's designed by Honda for two totally different purposes. 20 was a generation of the High Rev culture an answer to it's b series brother that was being replaced. 24 was a response to clients wanting little more torque for modest driving. Like you say gerb it's all down to the driver's preference. Cool video well balanced and good representation of two different iconic motors. I Like the side by side. Although every one's build and environment is different it gives a good basic idea between the two👍

    I've owned both and I personally found the k24 to be faster, or at least feel that way because of the torque but I find the high revs and drama from the k20 to be much more fun. The 3'' intake also defiantly helped that k24a a lot because these motors LOVE to breath. Cool video!

    Haven’t driven a k24, but as a current 2007 Fa5 owner with the k20 motor. I can vouch that thing is a beast!!

    I can only speak for the K24A2 in stock form on my 2005 Acura TSX. It's a great engine in the way it revs at the low RPMs which makes it a fun, zippy ride for everyday driving. I love it.

    k24 seems little faster in mid high range, is the jdm k24 equipped with stock lsd tran ? Nice coilover video recently you getting better with age

      @@TheGerbsteve its the best system for my k20z3 imo because you get such a linear power increase of boost it compliments the high revving nature and it doesnt overshadow the motors vtec sound you hear both its f*****g maggggical.
      Gotta get some runs in sometime man im in richmond virginia been watching your build for years now.

    K24 any day over a k20 loving it in my fg2 even thoo I lost my 9k rev. Currently shifting at 8800 rpms. You still can build k24 just to get the 9k rev back with a type s oil pump upgrade.

      hell yeah ;)... Wait, you're revving your k24 to 8800 rpm?? And I agree. Crazy what a simple oil pump upgrade can do. I'll be building a more badass k24 in the future that will handle 8k+ revs

      Is you block stock? My tuner would not tune me past 8000. Power drops off on the k24 stock cams around 7500 anyway

    Just gone from K20a2 to basic JDM K24a frank in my eg. Exactly the same setup but changed the blocks. 5.1 final drive. VTEC comes in at 4200rpm
    Mapping results:
    234bhp 175 ft lbs K20 (8600 rev limit)
    253bhp 201 ft lbs K24 Frank (8100 rev limit)
    In all honesty if someone did the swap without telling me and I hadn’t driven the car in a few months I probably wouldn’t notice. No doubt it’s probably a little faster but not the night and day I was told.

    Hey gerb been following ur dope channel for a lil while now, I was wondering I have a k20z3 currently rn in my fa5 n love it but due to it having high miles already I’m thinking of going k24 when it gives out if it does lol,im no expert n I just want ur help with a few questions, which car did u get ur k24 out of , what year n stuff n also what things should I look out for thanks hope all is well

      He's using a JDM K24a from Japan, same as what I use. They come out of the Odessey Wagon or Accord Euro R. They're 200hp engines with more torque than a K20. It really doesn't matter what year you get unless you're really picky. Any of the high performance K24's with the 3-lobe cams on intake AND exhaust will be fine for your build. I'm tuned with a k24a and RSX-S z1 head, race header, RBC, cold air intake, rsx-s oil pump and 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust with not catalytic converter running on 91 octane. I raced my friends Mazda Speed 3 with down pipe and cold air intake and whooped his ass from a 30 roll. if you've got any questions for me just message back.

    Man they both so close only diffrence when watching is shift points and few mph. Got love that k24 torque keep you moving foward and the k20 high revs

      I agree! I do think the k24 will take it from a lower roll, but if you keep the k20 in its rev range, it’s a beast too. So hard to pick the “better” one. I love my torque though!

    I went from a K20 to a K24. The k20 has more of a vtec kick because it has less torque down low, so at crossover you feel it more. That's the positive for the K20 for me, but I still prefer the K24 because it HAS more torque down low and just pulls harder all the way up to 8000+. I'm still running untuned but with a type s oil pump. I've lost no RPM and have been running my K24 like this for more than two years. Butt dyno...... K24 takes it.

      I'm running a k24a fa5 with oil pump 50°vtc and tuned by Evans. It's crazy cause it has almost same rpm as k20, but way more torque. Alot faster. If it didn't have oil pump maybe not as fast

      Did you use the k20 head and did the 50 vtc degree stuff to the motor
      I bought a k24a2 installed the type s oil pump put didn’t change or vtc ..with stock ecu I have super short gears is that normal ?or could it be because I have stock everything is a 2007 si

      @@joakinxeverything is normal, yes. The gears may feel short because of you increased torque and lower redline. 50 vtc gear allows you to gain more mid range power, and is a solid upgrade when you're ready. But I bet you car hauls some ass as is :-) yes I have 50vtc. I used my k20z1 head on a jdm k24a block. I do feel like my 1st and second gears are a bit short because I burn rubber in those gears. Oh stock ecu, so you'll want ktuner when you can afford it. You can run stock ecu but avoid hitting vtec. It's okay occasionally, but you're running lean especially in vtec which causes detonation, and you want to avoid that. Are you able to rev out to your redline, if not then something is wrong. One more thing, I ran my k24 frank with stock ecu for three years, so don't let people scare you about how you needed ktuner. Just get ktuner as soon as possible

    You should install the k20 head for more rev 🤪that's exactly what I'm going to do this summer and keep your k24 base 👌🏼 and what did you run now? Like mod and stuff like that?

      I’m actually planning on rebuilding my k20 head for a future build 😎... the vtec crossover is insane on a k20/24! I’m running cold air, header, k20 vtc, and soon a 3” exhaust 🤙🏼. I have hondata and tune too

    From that I’ve seen the k24 is the better option and it might not rev as high as a 20 but 7k rpm isn’t exactly a huge drop off that’s still high for a 4 cylinder

      I agree with the vtec crossover. I prefer the k24 too because it's like a freight train all the way up tp redline lol. I do miss revving the piss out of my k20 on the highway though. And I should've bought a type s pump as well. I'm revving to 7800rpm rn. Frank build was my original plan, but I went budget build, k24. Still happy just want more revs haha

    May favorite part
    HIm : " You have to completely relearn the power band" or " the Torque is so much more in the K24 it just spins the tires" ETC..
    Reality : there is only 5 or or less MPH difference in that 3rd gear pull ( seen in this video) and less then 10tq differents between the two stock and even less difference between the HP.
    End of the day, I'll take the K24. No replacment for displacement. if you equally mod the two the K24 will usually come out on top.

    Gerb. A simple valve job and new valve seals and your z3 head will be good for another 200k miles. 250-300 tops for that job. Buy another k24a longblock when you have the spare change and build it the way you want slowly with pump. You wont be disappointed. 🤘

    Gerb you running the rbc manifold on the k24?if you are revving it to 7500rpm you will actually lose power all over especially midrange torque.the rbb would benefit you more however if you revving it to 8500rpm the rbc will be the way to go as its build for high revs.

      I sure am. I'm revving to 7800rpm currently. I hear what you're saying though, but i also have 50 vtc, so i can makee up for some of that tq lose with tuning.

    K24/K20 Frank is the way, you get both the low end torque and the top end power, I love my Frank and it has so much potential 300Whp with FBO & E85, I’m not there yet but I want to be.

    My fg2 k20 2011 has the most aggressive vtec crossover I've ever heard and its only got a cold air intake and sport exhaust

    I threw a rod on the k20 with a kraftwerks kit. Well spun a bearing. Swapped to a K24 from a tsx type s. The thing is a beast now. May swap the head. I’m not sure just yet.

    K24 if it has the 50vtc at the minimum with the RBC and a good tune. The PRB oil pump is the cherry on top.
    K20 is better suited for boost imo. I boosted my K24 and it just makes too much low end tq. Dont get me wrong, I still love it lol

      Apparently built right, the k20/24 will put down close to 250hp with the right bolt ons. Only reason I didn’t go that route was because my k20 head has high miles.

    Personally I like the k20. But the torque on the 24 is better. But how can you justify spending 1-2k for and extra 20-40 Torque. Spend another 1-2k and have 400whp🤦🏼‍♂️

      k20/24 frank will make the most HP, but believe it or not, a "properly" built straight k24 longblock can keep with a k20/24.

      That's debatable. If you watch this video closely, you can see that my k24 seems to pull slightly better past 60 than the k20.
      My vote:
      k24=more torque/acceleration
      k20=more rpm/better revving & better sounding

    I’ve had both and I prefer the k20 because of the higher revs can’t go wrong with either on paper the k24 is much better power wise especially torque

      @@TheGerbsteve it’s tuff man the fa5, if I had to put it into a word it was just raw driving experience . The st is a little bit more diluted, however the powerband is all low end. Just bolt ons and you’re at almost 400 ft/lbs of torque. Overall as a daily I would choose the st.

      @@descentmvm I measured the cams. The rbb2 has a larger exhaust cam, but snakled intake cam. I'll use my Z1 intake cam and rbb2 exhaust cam. The difference between the intake vtec cam is .9mm in favor of the Z1 cam. The exhaust cam is .75 in favor of the rbb2 cam

    If you miss the k20 high rev why didn’t you throw in a type s oil pump, and your cams on the k24 with the 50 degree vtc gear and would feel the same just more torque !

    k24 makes up for having more torque. k20 has better head. swap that k20 head on your k24 and you will have crazy power.

      Midrange, the k24 takes the W all day because of Torque. Depending on set ups, I think the k20 will always be the high rpm, revving king.

      I'm revving to 8200 on my stock k24a2 2008. Oil pump is not needed and will cause vibrations if you switch to the 20 pump

    K24 was definitely the faster motor. Might not be by a large margin it it was ahead. Especially topend.

      Agreed... that extra torque and displacement help. It’s faster midrange and top end it pulls identical as k20, making k24 the preferred engine. If only I can achieve 8k rpm on the k24, I’ll be golden 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Ive got k24 in my fn2 but i must say, your k20 seems just as strong as the k24, prolly wasnt worth giving the rpm's up.
    if you're straight k24 then think about going k20/k24, thats my set-up in my fn2. car is way more responsive cause of the k24 sub.

      @@JA-wy1zv nope, but would defs be worth swopping out for k24 sub. Keep the head. Put oil pump in the k24 sub and you'll be able to still keep revs at 8600.
      Car will be a lot more responsive, higher torque💪🏼💪🏼

    Stripped out 93 CX one seat SUPER STRIPPED! K24 BOTTOM K20 HEAD built from valve cover to oil pan Toda cams you name it. On max boost it makes 1,178 bhp an 892 TQ. I ride it on the street. B16-b18c5 with nitrous in EGs pull up an I rape them haha. Came from a GSR EG. I LOVE K. K ALL DAY!
