- After a few days of relaxation, it was time to venture out into the city of Kandy Sri Lanka and meet locals. As I explored and experienced my first impressions of the city, I met some locals on the city bus and went and explored the botanical gardens with them before heading back downtown for Mac Candee to eat some candy in Kandy.

Mac, you called random guys Machan in this video more times than an average guy from Ceylon ever use that term of endearment in their lifetime. (Sri Lankans use British English, so we say "sweets" instead of "candy". That's why the old man at the shop had no idea what you were talking about when you said "candy". He must have thought you were talking about Kandy 😂.)
Well salespersons should be versatile & knowledgeable about their products with the names in different languages rather be confused he can sell more of his products & suggestions since tourism is big in Sri Lanka, ijust like Mark calling Machan to locals 😀
@@mahamqur1989 well that would be great but that old man already knows the name in at least 2 or 3 different languages, and that's already 1 or 2 more languages than most of the western world lol. Do you want every salesperson to learn the names of their products in every language in the world?
A tourist repeating a couple of words in the local language that they're gonna forget as soon as they leave the country cannot be compared to a salesperson learning words in multiple languages. You're comparing apples to oranges.
As far as I know, Sri Lanka doesn't get a lot of American tourists (because there are many tropical islands much closer to America that they can go to instead), so salespeople will naturally learn more American English when more Americans visit Sri Lanka.
I think it is good if the tourist knew which language (or which type of English) is spoken in the country they're travelling in, and used that instead 😊
Very beautiful view, enjoy your travel in Sri lanka. In Greece you cant go in orthodox church with shorts espesially the women. Enjoy your journey before you arrive again to Pakistan lol. Love from Greece❤️🇬🇷

It's hard to imagine buying a ticket to enter the park, because any park in my country is an open space,

Hi, you guys are very entertaining. Ali, Harry and you. So, I am 65 and from Kandy and my wife is enjoying all your videos. It’s quirky the way you pronounce “Machang” all adds to the fun. So we are from Kandy and that large Botanical garden you went to was where the famous movie “Bridge over river Kwai” was filmed. In our twenties a bunch of used to drive in to the park get drunk and have wild parties. It’s not possible now. Kandy has changed a lot. But glad you enjoyed the food the people and the country. I'm pretty sure those big trees with the branches going down to the ground and rooting are Banyan Trees. They have them in Hawaii which is where I have seen them. The biggest one in the world is in India.

please come and visit the university of Peradeniya. it is on the opposite side of the Peradeniya botanical garden. today is convercation day too. you can get an amazing experience. maybe first time for foreigner. tomorrow and day after tomorrow are also convercation days.

Don’t you visit temple of tooth? I wish to see that video machan. The name of Kandy derives from Kanda (which means mountains in Sinhalese) uda rata (up country). We used to called that city as kanda uda rata in sinhalese language long time ago and the British people who ruled the country were unable to pronounce that whole sentence and they named the city as Kandy. Here in SL most of the people use British accent (elderly) so they called sweets for sweets. Some times people get confused when called candy like this vendor. 🤗 Candee+Kandy+Candy 😄
