- We stayed in a historic family home, right next to Kandy Lake. The hotels in this area are pretty expensive, but with a room in this homestay with private bathroom was only 2,500 rupees (£10 GBP / $13 USD) per night.
@Wonderboyjeremy had stayed in this place several times before and recommended we stay there as a base to explore some areas near Kandy. It's always good to have a recommendation from someone you trust as it holds a lot more weight than reading the reviews on the booking sites.
I do enjoy the comforts of a hotel like swimming pool, gym and a buffet breakfast but I also enjoy the experience of staying in a family home, especially one that comes with a story and a lot of history. When you take the massive price difference into consideration the homestay option is much better value.

YES.. For your knowledge...We sri lankan believe the Kandyan (People in kandy) most are from noble families and there belongs to high cast....they are very decent and bit proud of they are KANDYAN...
That foreigner guests were really not so friendly, they ignored Dale so badly that it almost looked rude

Best Stay in Kandy ever, For all these years i have travelled to kandy. This place is by far the Best Place to stay and also the Location is Fantastic.

Hats off to owners ( Young lads ) they seem to be doing a great job & they come across customer focused too , a good start in the right direction .

Hi owner dont change years old heritage cuz it's not something you can add on if we wish. Originality is what some ppl like to see experience. Update kitchen bathroom etc but preserve the history.

What I love about Dale's vlogs are that it's so natural.. many others use high tech equipment, drones & fancy editing but seriously Dale's ones are so simple, authentic & captures everything as it is & always shows out the good & the bad of his experiences.. keep it up 👍

Probably Dale made a business for that day for them. I feel that women were almost to leave to another place till they saw Dale and then made a decision to stay. Seeing Dale gave them confidence that this place is a secure place for foreigners. Dale's friendly approach towards them is fascinating. A huge thumbs up mate.
The architecture is so vintage, large windows and spaces... These days we think it's a waste of space or a luxury

Dale, at 09:20 your camera homed in on a small silver ornament (on the shelf) of the Isurumuniya Lovers!.... the actual carving dates back to the 6th century and is much bigger and carved out of rock and on display in Anuradhapura where the ancient Buddhist city is.... there is history behind who the lovers are...I think an ancient king's son and his low caste lover.... a song has also been composed about them and sung by the late PLA Somapala and his wife Chitra Somapala.... their son Chitral is Sri Lanka's most famous rock musician and he has played and sung in European metal bands in Europe!... look him up if you like rock music as he sings in English and Sinhala and was living a long time in Germany.... so there's some useful (or even useless 😂🤣😅) information for you for free!... if you're still in Sri Lanka and haven't already been to Anuradhapura I suggest you visit as it's another UNESCO heritage site worth visiting.... maybe next Friday go and see the lovers for Valentine's Day!!! ??? 😂❤

I long to go to Sri Lanka again soon.... my cousin has bought about 5 houses which he is going to turn into guest houses in Sri Lanka and start a hospitality and tourism business there... when he eventually retires (from the UK) and goes back for good... I will have a small part in the business and will be hopefully working from the UK and going over to help out occasionally.... maybe you will stay with us one day?... not far from Udawalawe Safari Park... we hope to keep a few guests in each house to give a homely experience and do pick ups and drop offs at the airport and take them on excursions...so that's the plan!... your videos are helping me with business especially as I'm a Brit and need to know what the tourists like and what Sri Lanka is like these days... I will eventually back track and try and watch a video per night to catch up on all your Sri Lankan vlogs and will give a thumbs up for all once seen...there's so many vloggers in Sri Lanka now and too many to follow...but I got hooked on yours after the first one I watched intently when you had an unplanned and unfortunate accident tearing your ligament in your ankle...hope you have fully recovered and just love to see these genuine hospitable Lankans who took you in... a far cry from the stalkers and scammers that you usually get whenever you travel in Asia....it is worse for me as I'm a Sri Lankan from abroad so they target us even more once they see a Lankan woman dressed differently and they hear her accent is not Lankan and neither speak the local lingo!!! 🤨

Dale, I loved this video and the lovely guest house and very friendly and hospitable owners.... it's nice to stay in someone's home as I think it's friendlier and cosier with personal touches.... brought back memories of my grandparents.... my mother's parents were Kandyans and my late maternal grandfather was a Superintendent of a British owned tea estate called Cranford View during the early 1900's under British rule (I'd love to know if it still exists!).... I've not been to Kandy in years but my grandmother's surviving relatives are still there....shortly after my grandparents married in 1919 and had their first two children (out of 9....my mother was the youngest!), they moved down south to a Colombo suburb called Kolonnawa where my grandfather built a similar looking house (to the one in the video) on a plot of land he bought on top of a hill.... he named it Cranford View....the rest of the children were born there including my mother... my grandfather designed the house too!
