If you're into the idea of an AM8 ( and lets face it, if you're here you probably are) go for it! I went with the Ratrig kit and printed parts in PLA over a year ago. It's not fallen apart yet and produces excellent quality prints.

@@Crosslink3D well actually. There are many things to evolve from the AM8.
I ran into some problems with the AM8 that lead me to mgn12 liniar rails.
So mine evolved into the AM8 BLV mod on thingiverse.
So when your AM8 build comes to completion. The BLV mod could be an option. 😉
And still. I would never have been amble to push forward with my project, if it wasnt for your help.

I have a bunch of rails and carriages that cannot be used.
And a few that worked. It will cost you the same in the long run as getting HIWIN og something like them. ;-)

Man that's a nice frame. And the price is right. Thanks for sharing. Was just thinking of your channel. Was trying to print in ABS for my 1st time on my large "fancy" printer that cost 4X more than my Anet. The bed just wasn't holding the temp I needed (unenclosed). I decided to try the Anet with the smaller build plate. I hadn't used it in so long. I was even thinking of finding a "tech" kid to give it too. Loaded the ABS in and got a nice print 1st try. Printed all the small parts unenclosed but big part failed. Threw a garbage bag over it and their printing nice too. Anet is such a nice little printer. Great to build and learn on. And you get a nice printer out of the deal. So I've decided to build an enclosure for it and it will be for ABS. I'm still thinking a Core XY system is the real way to go but just can't justify another printer to play with. Was also looking at a non-planer Slic3r on GitHub that makes a lot of sense too. But keep up the good work. I for one think your Anet vid's are the best on TH-cam. Thanks.

A little word of caution here: do not stress the frame once it is assembled.
The screw heads will very easily bend the alu profile pushing the frame out of alignment 😢
The frame is not as sturdy as when using external "clumpsy" triangular corner pieces screwed into the profiles.
That is the cost of the rather ingenious way of assembling the frame pieces.
It is however very easy to upgrade on this minor problem.

Also i got hygus bearings when i was converting my am8 to liner 2020 extrusion and wanted to leave the z axis on rods. I head terrible luck with them, they kept binding up and the printer either wouldnt move along the z or it would litterally pop the bearings out on the way. So just make sure you dont buy the super cheap ones like I did and expect a good result

FYI, i uploaded an improved bracket for the Y belt tensioner which is closed at the top. Works great on my printer as the Y belt tensioner is guided a lot better and stays parallel to the ground.

That original frame is still of great value. I just received a used CTC I3 A8 in the mail which I bought thinking id only have to check the wiring, replace the plastic tubing used as couplers with proper flexible couplers and add a couple of lock collars to the smooth z-rods. Only to have it show up with the main frame pretty much busted in two, and the left and right x-axis end stops busted all to hell. Due to stupidity of the shipper whom didnt properly disassemble the unit before shipping. I found a Thingiverse file set to completely print a new frame using PETG. But i have to reassemble the printer as is to print it. As the Monoprice Select Mini I own isnt being a big enough of a build plate to print it. Odd thing is there are all these I3\A8 clones out on the market right now, but finding a replacement plywood\MDF\Acrylic frame is a pain unless you want to wait 30+ days to get one from mostly the Ukraine off ebay when you live in Canada. Or fork out 3x the price for aluminum frame.

I have just finished the build....the cheap crappy frame of the original A8 as well as the ungodly noise it made was driving me nuts and I wanted a change.Things spiraled a bit out of control from here. There was a lot of „While I‘m at it, I might as well....“
Now the only original parts left from the original Anet A8 are the motors, the bed and parts of the wiring harness. And at that point I am not even sure I can call this an Anet anymore. Feels more like I build a new printer from scratch, with some printer parts that I had laying around.
Aluminium frame, Hiwin-style linear rails (ok, they are clones but they do work really well), a brand new 32 bit SKR 1.4 board, running Marlin 2.0.5, Noctua cooling fans, TMC2130 drivers, a RepRap controller/display....yeah - it definitely IS a new printer.
But it works sooooo great...and now I cannot even hear it anymore, unlike the printer I started out with. Honestly, the loudest parts in the printer are now the cable chain and the fan.

A thing I did not understand is what kind of nuts and bolts you are using. Usually the nuts for aluminium extruded profiles must be slided from the side of the profile (cut section let's say). Instead I see you screw it into the bolt and then push em into the profile itself.
