    Voice by Dia Mirza
    Director: Sharmista Nag
Researcher and Scriptwriter : Ksenia Kondratieva
    Assistant Researcher: Aditi Kuriakose
People will ask you what this video is about. You will say, it's a hard hitting documentary or, it's about a dumping ground that caught fire.
This video is what it is. But first it is about Deonar and the people that live around it. It is about a problem we just don't want to discuss!
So, this video is asking you,
What will you do today to keep your city clean?
Will you just leave it on the government and the so called rag pickers to deal with the tons of waste you and I create as a city, as a nation or will you let this documentary actually hit you?

it's been almost 3 years since I have moved to Mumbai for studies.....I have never thrown any waste on the roads be it even chocolate wrapers......but i have never segregated the waste.....after watching this video I am going to do it and encourage others to do the same .....this kinds of videos should be shown in schools n colleges ....such an eye opener.....keep the good work going

Me being a Navi Mumbai citizen never heard of Deonar tbh. Thank you for spreading the awareness. I'll forward this video for sure. And I'm glad that I myself encourage my friends to even throught small wrappers in the dustbin too and they now feel guilty and atleast never throw it anywhere when I'm around! Good job team Being Indian.

This is such an eye opener! We all should begin spreading this awareness in our houses first and then our buildings or societies we live in. If everyone contributes to this and does their part individually we all can get rid of this problem and make India a better place to live. This is not a small issue and it does have a huge impact on the people living in the vicinity of the dumping ground. Imagine your house being close to such a place where it stinks 24*7, where every view you see from your window is a stack of waste will you be able to live in such a place? Let's just start by segregation of waste from our houses and then follow it up to a huge change. Truly be the change you want to see in the world. Thank you Being Indian.

The "spreading awareness" usually never works unless it's like a lot of people
This has to hit a lot of people to make them realise what's going on.
By our side we can do nothing except segregating our waste.
This is so sad my god.

    ( my previous comment which was deleted ) : +BeingIndian : Navi-Mumbai
municipal corporation has started its best practice of Wet & Dry
waste collection . New IAS officer Tukaram Mundey is encouraging people
to sort Wet & dry waste, due to this after so many years Dumping
yard has started recycling its waste and started producing manure from
it. But unfortunately Corrupt politicians are not happy with Municipal
Commissioner of Navi Mumbai as he is honest & straight forward.
Every month he directly meet local peoples of different areas and solve
their complaints ASAP . You must do an episode on how
Municipal corporation should work under honest & straight forward (
    IAS) municipal commissionerIf Navi-Mumbai Municipal
Commissioner can do it then why not World Richest Municipal Corporation
    cant do it.

Just one thing I would like to share on after watching this attentively.
These issues can be solved when all ppl- both rich and poor, educated and illiterate, servicemen and labor class everyone unites and just determine to bring the change. One should not be blamed for all the mess, everyone has to take equal responsibility.
And after watching this video, 'I' determine to bring the change. 'I' will not liter my surroundings and whenever possible, without any hesitation will definitely clean the waste.
Thanks to Sharmista Nag and Being Indian Team for another brilliant work done. Way to go!!

I live in Bangaluru Nagasandra area and there is waste management. I got 2 dust bins and and a bag to put scraps for at Rs 128 and I simply put food waste in one bin and plastic, paper waste in another. I am doing it since day one in the society. Everybody in my society does that. And newcomers are given booklet and oral information for the same and neighbours, society management ensures that they abide. We have herd mentality and no ones wants to look the worst in neighbourhood and it plays major deterrent. Even over metro station is squeaky clean with no pan stains. It is not at all difficult if one wants. The garbage collectors have uniform, protective gloves and all the tools and do not manually scavenge. Once, they shed their uniforms, its hard to tell that they are garbage collectors or just maids. My society is best by any standards of first or third world. I know as many whites live in my neighbourhood and they have attested that. If one sincerely wants, it is not at all hard to remain neat and tidy. And small initiatives can go long way to give dignity to garbage collectors. Its all about mindset. Mumbaikars and most of the India does not have the right mindset.

New IAS ( Municipal Commissioner ) has requested every NaviMumbaikar to make wet & dry waste in 2 different categories by providing 2 Main Dustbins per society.
