Very good decomentary video about life of India. People full of ambition are living there, they are fighting for their daily meal that is what maked them strong and increasing the number of successful people in their country. If poverty can't teach you then what?
These people in Mumbai don't even have a dollar to their name. Yet, they bravely go about their lives with a smile on their faces and deal with adversity with humor and fortitude. Compare that with the US, where folks in inner cities are shooting each other, living in fatherless families and generally leading a destructive life. Same goes for some of the MAGA folks who seem to want to do a coup in the US. Is it cultural or is there something in the DNA of India which prevents India with all its issues from devolving into the hell holes that inner cities are in the USofA? Most of these folks are coming from villages to work for their families back home so they can send money back to villages in poor regions of India (Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, etc). Not meaning to be disrespectful of the challenges that people in the US have had to face over the last 2 centuries, but the contrast is still very striking. These are guys are not selling drugs, joining gangs, indulging in drive by shootings and looting stores, in spite of the fact that their lot is considerably worse that many others.
There is the guy selling alcohol illegally. That's how it starts. Ask the United States and the Mob that sold alcohol during prohibition from 1919 to 1933 in the US. Al Capone, one of the big mobsters, had soup kitchens during the Great Depression. If you keep the people happy, the police can't touch you (as easily).
Some does build their own success tho, but not a lot. I used to be very poor, my dad is a personal driver for a company. My mom is an accountant from a small company. They gave me everything, provided enough food and money for university. Now i'm a data scientist, i do make decent money, it's all thanks to my hardworks and especially, my parents. I told them i can support the family and they do not need to work anymore than they already had. But they do not agree, they said those are my money, i should spend it. They won't accept what i have earned. I love them. Usually drive them on a vacations every month haha. My mom has never gone on a vacation her whole life (before my current role) There are cases where the poor can become richer.

In a typical European city the gap between rich and poor is less noticeable due to better infrastructure and social welfare. The situation in Mumbai is shared by other major cities from the developing world such as Saigon, Shanghai which all looking very modernised with hundreds of skyscrapers but the life quality of an ordinary inhabitant normally has room to improve.

There’s a world of difference between the trains in India and Japan. Having experienced Japan’s rail system firsthand, I saw how everything from the cleanliness to the punctuality is on a completely different level. Japanese trains are meticulously maintained, with clean carriages, quiet passengers, and an almost obsessive focus on arriving exactly on time. In contrast, while India’s trains are vital for its vast population, they often face challenges with overcrowding, cleanliness, and delays. The difference in both infrastructure and public behavior between the two countries makes Japan’s rail system feel far more reliable and efficient.

For all the Middle Class folks living in Mumbai , Do you have any plans on how your kids will buy a home in this City if they cannot get a good job and even if they can , will they have the savings to buy apartments for them ? The problem with most of the people in this documentary is that Parents don't think about what will their kids do or how they will live. Sab Bhagwaan nahin karta hai boss. So if you inherited a small apartment or house from your Father and now you and your brother are sharing it with your own kids then you are already on a downward spiral. So sell the house in Mumbai (if you can) and move to a cheaper city in India after investing the proceeds. Don't assume by default that how you lived in this city by sharing the apatment or 80 years old house with your siblings will be ok for your multiple kids and their families too. I have seen this happening to my cousins who were living in Ancestral house and as their family size multiplied living became difficult in that house and the kids didn't have the guts to buy even apartments in a city like Ahmedabad so think how difficult it will be for middle class generations to live in the same house.

Dharavi, as an example, we cannot just go in and knock down the properties to rebuild million pound apartments. We have to to think of the people and what they want religously, cultuarly, without distabalising the commumities that exist. The people of Dharavi love their communinity to just bulldoze that and rebuild and even offer better housing, would tarnish their social construct, economically and socailly. We are not China. So to your respnse about showing off wealth, it is not, it is inspirational, and that is what drives India. Do not be fooled by street sellers, they are some of rich, and the story of one food street seller who lives in one of the most expensive homes in Mumbai, yet he still runs his business from 04:00am till 01:00am in the the next morning. Wealth may be seen as power in the West in India is it what you are and the way you live your life. Humility does not mean poverty. The people of Dharavi may look poor to you, but have the better life than many of us. Life is not always about money, but experiences and just living life.

Excellent documentary. I very much respect the innovative and hard working spirit of the people of India. Be not tempted to judge by Western standards, instead, take care of your family and neighbours.
Better to judge by western standards than eastern standards. Northern standards are even better than southern standards.
Consider the cultural mindset of Indian history vs that of the USA and that make cause you to realize the difference.

I know Mumbai is expensive but it cannot be that expensive
Depends on the neighborhood
The rich in east Asia are ridiculously rich. The gap between the poor and rich is astronomical.
It is that expensive, middle class and even upper middle class can't survive in Mumbai, either you have to go out of Mumbai and commute 2-3 hours a day or stay in 300-400 sqft homes

Looks like with the most millionaires,a space program and nuclear weapons they are a wealthy nation. The issue is they forgot to tell 80% of the nation.
