i belong to a educated dalit family. if we walk on streets and talk to people its hard to find who is dalit and who is not. But the time i say my last name, people judge me and ask, are you a SC. They feel we are lucky bcos we get subsidy in Education and Quots in college & government office. But they never improvise on out history in which we tried to stood and still trying bcos its the Community which divided us.

Firstly sincere thanks to @BeingIndian for this video. As rightly said by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, "Turn in any direction you like, Caste is the monster that crosses your path. You cannot have political reform, you cannot have economic reform, unless you kill this monster." This words of Babasaheb written in the book 'Annihilation of Caste' holds true even now in 2016. From thousands of years the discrimination based on the Varnas(Caste) had been going on in our country, over the ages ways of discrimination had been changed but what not changes is casteist mindset of people in the country. As shown in video, I would like to just highlight one point caste discrimination is not just about Manual Scavenging, its just one part of it. Right from physically to mentally people are being discriminated over the caste. Atrocities,rapes, murders, detaching from basic rights etc if you dig into statistics you will find how caste plays a very crucial role in each of it. It is so rooted in the society that people start discriminating you as soon as they know your surname belong to a lower caste. From as mentioned in the video 'Ramabai Nagar Hatyakand' in Ghatkopar to Rohith Vemula's Sucide thousands of severe worst incidents had been happen in India in past two decades, and media always been overlooking this issues. There is no proper justice given to each of the case that had been open yet. Caste discrimination works on every level - Educational, Social, Cultural etc. Jus for a e.g It works from Not allowing a person to drink water from a public water resource to not selecting a lower candidate for higher research studies, there are millions of unheard stories still surviving in India. Formost we must fight to end the discrimination together as one Nation. Each one of us must take responsible to uproot a devil which had been existing in our society from thousands of years. The INDIAN DALIT, is not more a DALIT, or I would say he was never a DALIT! He is the ONE who is the Native citizen of this homeland whose rights had been snatched by some handful amount of people for there own benefits. He is the one who is now educated, motivated,standing tall and would strive his best to restore EQUALITY in this country as dreamed by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar!

It's funny how some of us from general category see the problem only when reservation is used for colleges/jobs but we're fine with dalits facing all that hardship and daily life struggles.

I am a 27 year old Indo-Canadian woman. My family and I moved here when I was 15. My parents never told me that we were chamaars, because they didn't want me to feel bad about who I was. That was until my school bully shamed me for my caste in front of my entire class. She knew something about me that even I was unaware of. How? Her dad was a colleague of my parents and he knew about our caste. Apparently, they had been talking about something that had absolutely nothing to do with them at their home. My bully would call me names every fucking day, for something that I had no control over. I have self-esteem issues to this day, just because of some brain-washed princess who thought that her "pure blood" made her more of a human being than me. Now, I live in a country where the only qualification to get respect is being a human. So a big FUCK YOU to the people who think reservations are oppressing the upper class. Get off your high horses and take a walk in our shoes for a day.

As far as Hinduism is concerned its a dynamic religion so it is adaptive. Adding new rules or changing things is its legacy. As Hindus we should do that.

all those who post anti reservation status on facebook and twitter should see this. a incidence in my post graduation tyears i really want to mention is that, once i was filling UGC NET forms with the rest of my classmates. i metioned SC. some of my classmates were stunned and were telling me why ae you doing such a cruel joke . you dont look like a SC, this was being said by them while getting back from me, and i believed that untouchability didnt exist???? how naive of me. i was the top ten ranks in the MA examination of the university and i cleared my UGC NET (the only one who did) i was told you cleared because you are a SC. .... Food for thought .........

During the time of independence they had the least jobs in hand and were not educated. To counter the series of oppression and denial of opportunity to them, Reservations is important.

We don't begg for reservation ; if u go through the pages of Indian cast system and history you can simply realise that it is our right ; the slight difference is that for your future we have already given our past and not ready to burn the present and future. basically the concept of higher and lower cast must be destroyed . all reservation based on cast must be thrown in to the dustbin and new reservation based on economical status must be introduced.And no document must have our cast written in it. Nice topic. I would like to add something. I did my schooling in a Brahmin school and I never observed or have seen any discrimination against cast. Most other discrimination comes against the caste; is because of the reservations. I guess there would be very few left in the current younger generation, who believes in caste separations. My fellow citizens who have their families in well settled conditions continues to take the benefits in future generations. I believe, let others, who really need those rights take the advantage of it. People who live in Cities, have better schooling and can pay for coaching, do well in entrance exams. Fellow citizens from villages do not get such opportunities, and they have to face competition in the same caste quota. Now that makes caste system go fail drastically. underdeveloped still looses on the cast benefits. I believe caste quota was important and should be continued, but only for limited years. it seems to be; developed (fellow citizens with casts) seems to be ahead of taking the benefits of the reservations, than those deserve to come ahead. Have I hurt anyone's feelings? I won't say sorry. I have right to speak. Sorry for the long comment, but no potato for anyone.
+pradyumna ingle Very rightly said. The reservation system in present scenario will trigger discrimination, but for the "so called" upper caste people in near future. Equality never starts with keeping reservations. It was a necessary step after independence, nut it is no longer needed. The sad part is, this system is now hard to eradicate because most of the bureaucrats and politicians belong to the "so called" lower castes. India is an sovereign and secular nation, but only in the Indian constitution!

Double standard ppl here. They bark on caste based reservations but don't talk of abolishing caste system. Vedas,puranas,shrutis, smritis,etc are the root cause of caste system don't blame British for the evil side of your religion. They just created hatred between upper castes and lower castes by allowing ppl from lower castes in schools and recruiting them in military services. It is clearly prescribed in manusmriti (Sharia of Hindus written by manu who is supposed to be son of brahma) that brahma is the sole creator of this universe. A brahmin is born from the head of brahma hence he is more closer to God and he is a bank of knowledge, kshtriya is born from the shoulders of brahma and he has the responsibility to look after the security of the nation, a viashya is born from the stomach of brahma and his work is to do business and pay taxes to the nation and shudras(present day OBC) are born from feet of brahma therefore they should serve all the above castes. As dalits are not born from any body part of brahma they are untouchables and should perform all nasty and menial jobs. So stop blaming British govt as caste system and discrimination associated to it was followed even before any foreign invader came to India. And secondly i don't no why Indians hate caste based reservations. Brazil has vestibular system similar to reservation system of India. China reserves seats for minorities and womens. Israel, new Zealand and USA have got affirmative action. Finland has quotas for Swedish speaking nationals. Norway has 40% reservation system for womens. Romania has quota for Romans. UK has reservation system which they bought under equality act 2010. Macedonia has quota for Albanians. Japan has reservation system to help minorities. So get your facts clear and stop believing in false facts that only India has reservation system. Many stupid ppl also say that reservation should be based on income and not on caste, my simple question for them: Is our society divided on the basis of income or it is divided on the basis of caste??????? And those who say reservation is killing their opportunities let me show you some stats which are genuine believe it or simply Google it. Population of scheduled castes comprises of 16% of total population and population of brahmins is just 3.5% and entire general category is 15%. Population of entire reserved is India is 85% of total Indian population. Still just 4% of govt employees are scheduled castes. 76% of scheduled castes never heard anything called school and education. All resources this nation has are dominated by general category ppl. it's not because of you ppl have talent but that's how your caste system works. Caste based reservations is just providing representation to the communities who are facing hatred and social boycott form prominent caste groups. It doesn't matter caste based reservations exists in society or not general category ppl gonna hate reserved ppl bcoz your religion teaches it.

Killerboy S buddy you started this then listen. i didn't want to but you made me do. i am from general category. and me too faced reservation a lot and still facing it. my story is pretty much similar to yours. but there is one major difference which is you hate reserved ones and i don't. why? because everything has its pros and cons. i agree reservation has much more cons than pros. but it still needed. there should be some amendments in reservation but still it necessary.. but you need to understand that the things shown in this video are real and they really suffered alot. and the things shown in this video has no link to reservation. there are many persons who don't need it still taking reservation but there are many many people who really deserve reservation. that's why i said the reservation law should be amended. and all this is coming from a general category person. if you go in rural areas dalits are still treated miserably. undeserved reserved people and dalit people are far different. First of all let me congratulate you on making a video on such a relevant topic but still neglected by many just because it is controversial and no one dares to speak about the issues arising out of this .... you have taken a bold step and highlighted the major issues plaguing our countries development. We can not progress unless we as nation accept this is a problem, then can we try to solve the problem. Am a Brahmin and proud of my SC brothers. The 4 Varnas were based on the work they used to do. I don't know how it became a part of society. I am so happy in the past 72 years we Hindus have overcome a lot of this gap. I feel so sad about still watching in the news in some villages people are still oppressing less fortunate.
Olden days there used to be caste system like this : 1. Brahmana 2. Kshatriya 3. Vaishya 4. Shudra 5. Dalit Today there is a different caste system : 1.OBC 2.ST 3.SC 4.General Category What if we all belong to one caste : Indian. I look forward for that day.
Being as a professor of Sanskrit as per as I know Varna does not per se refer to ones occupation but rather one's nature or personality. There are no mention of Caste system in the shruti texts but rather that of Varna system which over the course of millenia have morphed in the bastardized system that we see today. Brahmin literally means "The Knower of Brahman" Every man was given the freedom to choose his own field of work with regard to his personality or nature. That is why the saying you quoted from the Rg Veda holds true here. It was based on one's nature that the caste system was allocated. A boy born of a brahmin who drinks liquor, shows no culture, is dumb, is violent etc is called a Shudra. A boy born of a Shudra who is intelligent, respects all life forms, has innate qualities that resemble that of a brahmin is automatically called a brahmin. There are various explicit sentences in various vedas that says that it's not birth that makes a Brahmin, but rather their character. Quoting from Rg Veda "All men are born shudras, it is etiquette alone that marks one a Brahmin and another a Shudra". Numerous examples can be quoted, Vishwamitra was by birth a Kshatriya, who after controlling his temper and base instincts was promoted to be a Brahmin sage or that of Valmiki, the author of Ramayana or Vyasa, the compiler of the Vedas themselves and the author of Mahabharata was born of a fisher woman (Shudra caste).

As a 90s kid and belonging to the OBC(went from NCL to CL) category I didnt knew much about reservations and categories it was recently when I was applying JEE that I realise how much reservations are there for other casts. My instant reaction being this is BS, well then I was explained why reservations are required and not everybody can afford the same kind of coaching that I can. And that's the point reservations are required they are necessary but why does a guy sitting right next to me in the same class need reservations. I think reservation should be purely based on the annual income like they are in OBC. That certainly ensures up to some point that the reservations are ending up to the people that actually deserve and not to some other person who is totally fine and can participate in general. And has no idea why reservations were initially given. Recently I talk to friend who belongs to ST categories in my same class I asked him why do you need reservations? He smiled and said to me why not I deserve it. He had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. These are the people who actually end taking reservation the so-called new brahmins so why is not the reservation system purely based on the income?? By basing it on caste you are just continuing the ' I take pride in my cast ' thing. Thanks if you read it to the end.

in the ancient times, varna was based on occupation n not birth, shudra's son could have been a Kshatriya n etc. later on it got based on birth n then the whole problem started. also in Vedas there's is no evidence found as one varna being higher or lower , they just complemented each other.

i belong to a educated dalit family. if we walk on streets and talk to people its hard to find who is dalit and who is not. But the time i say my last name, people judge me and ask, are you a SC. They feel we are lucky bcos we get subsidy in Education and Quots in college & government office. But they never improvise on out history in which we tried to stood and still trying bcos its the Community which divided us.

I'm not Indian, but it bothers me a lot that there are people in this world who suffer from cast discrimination.
They don't , now they have reservations for school and colleges that means even if they score low they will get admission in top most college , they don't have to pay fees , if they alleged of abusing them you will go to jail withoust investigating , lose your job and will be considered guilty until final result . No one gives a fuck about a poor general category who has to score twice or thrice of there marks to get admission and have to pay full fees whether he is able to or not , no one cares if he is poor

Firstly sincere thanks to @BeingIndian for this video. As rightly said by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, "Turn in any direction you like, Caste is the monster that crosses your path. You cannot have political reform, you cannot have economic reform, unless you kill this monster."
This words of Babasaheb written in the book 'Annihilation of Caste' holds true even now in 2016. From thousands of years the discrimination based on the Varnas(Caste) had been going on in our country, over the ages ways of discrimination had been changed but what not changes is casteist mindset of people in the country. As shown in video, I would like to just highlight one point caste discrimination is not just about Manual Scavenging, its just one part of it. Right from physically to mentally people are being discriminated over the caste. Atrocities,rapes, murders, detaching from basic rights etc if you dig into statistics you will find how caste plays a very crucial role in each of it. It is so rooted in the society that people start discriminating you as soon as they know your surname belong to a lower caste. From as mentioned in the video 'Ramabai Nagar Hatyakand' in Ghatkopar to Rohith Vemula's Sucide thousands of severe worst incidents had been happen in India in past two decades, and media always been overlooking this issues. There is no proper justice given to each of the case that had been open yet.
Caste discrimination works on every level - Educational, Social, Cultural etc. Jus for a e.g It works from Not allowing a person to drink water from a public water resource to not selecting a lower candidate for higher research studies, there are millions of unheard stories still surviving in India.
Formost we must fight to end the discrimination together as one Nation. Each one of us must take responsible to uproot a devil which had been existing in our society from thousands of years. The INDIAN DALIT, is not more a DALIT, or I would say he was never a DALIT! He is the ONE who is the Native citizen of this homeland whose rights had been snatched by some handful amount of people for there own benefits. He is the one who is now educated, motivated,standing tall and would strive his best to restore EQUALITY in this country as dreamed by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar!

I am a 27 year old Indo-Canadian woman. My family and I moved here when I was 15. My parents never told me that we were chamaars, because they didn't want me to feel bad about who I was. That was until my school bully shamed me for my caste in front of my entire class. She knew something about me that even I was unaware of. How? Her dad was a colleague of my parents and he knew about our caste. Apparently, they had been talking about something that had absolutely nothing to do with them at their home. My bully would call me names every fucking day, for something that I had no control over. I have self-esteem issues to this day, just because of some brain-washed princess who thought that her "pure blood" made her more of a human being than me.
Now, I live in a country where the only qualification to get respect is being a human.

basically the concept of higher and lower cast must be destroyed . all reservation based on cast must be thrown in to the dustbin and new reservation based on economical status must be introduced.And no document must have our cast written in it. Nice topic. I would like to add something. I did my schooling in a Brahmin school and I never observed or have seen any discrimination against cast.
Most other discrimination comes against the caste; is because of the reservations. I guess there would be very few left in the current younger generation, who believes in caste separations.
My fellow citizens who have their families in well settled conditions continues to take the benefits in future generations.
I believe, let others, who really need those rights take the advantage of it. People who live in Cities, have better schooling and can pay for coaching, do well in entrance exams. Fellow citizens from villages do not get such opportunities, and they have to face competition in the same caste quota.
Now that makes caste system go fail drastically. underdeveloped still looses on the cast benefits.
I believe caste quota was important and should be continued, but only for limited years.
it seems to be; developed (fellow citizens with casts) seems to be ahead of taking the benefits of the reservations, than those deserve to come ahead.

Equality never starts with keeping reservations. It was a necessary step after independence, nut it is no longer needed. Vedas,puranas,shrutis, smritis,etc are the root cause of caste system don't blame British for the evil side of your religion. They just created hatred between upper castes and lower castes by allowing ppl from lower castes in schools and recruiting them in military services.
It is clearly prescribed in manusmriti (Sharia of Hindus written by manu who is supposed to be son of brahma) that brahma is the sole creator of this universe. A brahmin is born from the head of brahma hence he is more closer to God and he is a bank of knowledge, kshtriya is born from the shoulders of brahma and he has the responsibility to look after the security of the nation, a viashya is born from the stomach of brahma and his work is to do business and pay taxes to the nation and shudras(present day OBC) are born from feet of brahma therefore they should serve all the above castes. As dalits are not born from any body part of brahma they are untouchables and should perform all nasty and menial jobs. So stop blaming British govt as caste system and discrimination associated to it was followed even before any foreign invader came to India.
And secondly i don't no why Indians hate caste based reservations.
Brazil has vestibular system similar to reservation system of India.
China reserves seats for minorities and womens.
Israel, new Zealand and USA have got affirmative action.
Finland has quotas for Swedish speaking nationals.
Norway has 40% reservation system for womens.
Romania has quota for Romans.
UK has reservation system which they bought under equality act 2010.
Macedonia has quota for Albanians.
Japan has reservation system to help minorities.
So get your facts clear and stop believing in false facts that only India has reservation system.

Population of scheduled castes comprises of 16% of total population and population of brahmins is just 3.5% and entire general category is 15%. Population of entire reserved is India is 85% of total Indian population. Still just 4% of govt employees are scheduled castes. 76% of scheduled castes never heard anything called school and education. All resources this nation has are dominated by general category ppl. it's not because of you ppl have talent but that's how your caste system works. Caste based reservations is just providing representation to the communities who are facing hatred and social boycott form prominent caste groups.
It doesn't matter caste based reservations exists in society or not general category ppl gonna hate reserved ppl bcoz your religion teaches it.

Being as a professor of Sanskrit as per as I know Varna does not per se refer to ones occupation but rather one's nature or personality. There are no mention of Caste system in the shruti texts but rather that of Varna system which over the course of millenia have morphed in the bastardized system that we see today. Brahmin literally means "The Knower of Brahman" Every man was given the freedom to choose his own field of work with regard to his personality or nature. That is why the saying you quoted from the Rg Veda holds true here. It was based on one's nature that the caste system was allocated. A boy born of a brahmin who drinks liquor, shows no culture, is dumb, is violent etc is called a Shudra. A boy born of a Shudra who is intelligent, respects all life forms, has innate qualities that resemble that of a brahmin is automatically called a brahmin. There are various explicit sentences in various vedas that says that it's not birth that makes a Brahmin, but rather their character. Quoting from Rg Veda "All men are born shudras, it is etiquette alone that marks one a Brahmin and another a Shudra". Numerous examples can be quoted, Vishwamitra was by birth a Kshatriya, who after controlling his temper and base instincts was promoted to be a Brahmin sage or that of Valmiki, the author of Ramayana or Vyasa, the compiler of the Vedas themselves and the author of Mahabharata was born of a fisher woman (Shudra caste).

As a 90s kid and belonging to the OBC(went from NCL to CL) category I didnt knew much about reservations and categories it was recently when I was applying JEE that I realise how much reservations are there for other casts. My instant reaction being this is BS, well then I was explained why reservations are required and not everybody can afford the same kind of coaching that I can. And that's the point reservations are required they are necessary but why does a guy sitting right next to me in the same class need reservations. I think reservation should be purely based on the annual income like they are in OBC. That certainly ensures up to some point that the reservations are ending up to the people that actually deserve and not to some other person who is totally fine and can participate in general. And has no idea why reservations were initially given.
Recently I talk to friend who belongs to ST categories in my same class I asked him why do you need reservations? He smiled and said to me why not I deserve it. He had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.
These are the people who actually end taking reservation the so-called new brahmins so why is not the reservation system purely based on the income??
By basing it on caste you are just continuing the ' I take pride in my cast ' thing.

pains are coming from castiem not from yours poorness
this so called upper cast is taking about reservation we sc,st,bc used reservation for 60yr but still 80 percentage is Poor's but you upper cast used reservation for 5000yrs know it first
That's the reason we need reservations.
but still..not more than 10% are taking the benefits of reservation....
The only solution to this problem is "EDUCATION"...not reservation. .... ...
+Vishaal Zade ur ancestors have faced alot but m sure u havnt faced much. now there is no restriction imposed on u. then y u need reservation just focus on ur studies. people like u want reason not to do hard work and still rely on spoon feeding. if u do hardwork and do well then general people like me will appreciate u.
reservation is necessary for those who can't afford to get studies or some restrictions imposed on them. and m sure u r nt one of them. u knw why i am sure because ppl who can't afford they do hardships.
you are right i won't get it. people like Sunil Yadav as you said he is talented and has for degrees still have no job and living life in miserable condition because he is just running after govt. jobs only. if he had tried in pvt. sector then am sure he had been selected. there is nothing to do with his caste. may be he lacks knowledge and skills just having degrees is not enough.
and even if we assume he has acquired very good knowledge and skills still h gets nothing then i can say he is having bad luck.
still his caste is not the reason for his miserable life.
if you still think he is lacking because of his caste i won't get it.
lets get straight you want reservation on the basis of caste you won't get equality brother.
there are so many people out there who are living in much more worse condition than Sunil Yadav and they don't even have reservation.
i demand reservation on the basis of poverty not on the basis of caste..
and brother my English is good enough to let others understand what i am saying.
