The problem with the TV Movie was WHEN it was broadcast in the end of May when the NBA Finals were getting underway and most Networks were wrapping up their seasons. If they had waited until early July to show the Film. Guess what? It would have been a hit because it would NOT have had any competition since most Network, at that time, showed repeats during the summer and didn't broadcast New Episodes until late September or early October.

Sorry, but the TV movie would NOT have been a hit(I watched it), because Fox "Americanized" it too much with sex, violence, and car chases, as well as a half-human Doctor. It had zero charm/intellect of the show, which never translates well to most US viewers (much less Fox viewers at the time). It WAS a flop in the US..
And, RTD is still full of sh!t, no matter what he says or writes...
And, who says that "The Curator" was a "Doctor" at all?
Adric was the "Wesley Crusher" of "Doctor Who", and quite annoying to me...
You do NOT count calendar years in determining "longest run". You count portrayals in the role. Jeffrey Hunter is NOT the longest running "Captain Pike"...
If production stops, you are effectively cancelled, no matter how many times a revival is "planned". There's a reason that it's called "Development Hell"...

@@igorschmidlapp6987 I saw it too and thought it was brilliant. I even taped over a sporting event I had planned on saving so I could watch it. I was kind of disappointed that they ddin't turn it into a series and part of that was when they broadcast it. During Sweeps against popular shows like Roseanne. Had they waited a month or two, after the NBA finals it would have had a better chances at succeeding because it would have been an original program going up against re-runs. Most people don't want to watch re-runs. They'd preferred to watch something new if give the choice. Doctor Who would have been a huge success even if it was on the forth rated network. Fox.

The other reason it failed in the US, is that they didn't really promote it. Unless you had a TV Guide, you wouldn't have known it was on that week. David Tennant is still the first actor to play different incarnations of the doctor, as he played "10.5" from Journey's End onwards, because it's explained in The Time of the Doctor the regeneration counted into the regeneration cycle meaning The 10th Doctor from Journey's End onward is actually a different incarnation than The 10th Doctor from The Christmas Invasion to The Stolen Earth. And if that doesn't count he also played The Meta-Crisis Doctor, and even though he's half human he's still The Doctor as he's literally called The Meta-Crisis Doctor.

I do think it's the American fandom that believes the movie went down badly, but that's because it was mainly intended for that audience. And it's ironic that it was also expected to struggle at home (where it had been written off years before) and yet got a sizeable number of people to sit down on a sunny Bank Holiday and watch. This is long before iPlayer, after all.

      @Yetaxa 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

The 'cancelled' one is honestly a bit silly, because the BBC almost never actively 'cancels' a show the way American networks will, by actually stopping the series in the middle of a season, leaving out already produced episodes. Once a series order is made, that show will go out, and more series may or may not get another series. It's extremely rare for a show to be straight up cancelled.

Oooh! Ooh! Tom Baker isn't the first to play two Doctor's either! Pin this! This is really good Trivia:
The actual title goes to Richard E. Grant, who would later play the Great Intelligence!
Richard E. Grant, plays an Alternative 9th Doctor is the Semi Official Animated story "Scream of the Shalka" that was released in 2003 during the 40th-anniversary! The revival series was announced later that year. (And, being referenced in some books and media, might have been considered the "Official" Ninth Doctor, if the series hadn't returned in 2005.) But for a brief period, he was the official Ninth Doctor.
However he also played the Tenth Doctor in the Doctor Who Charity Special "Doctor Who: The Curse of Fatal Death" in 1999. Although this series is a Non-Canon Charity special - featuring a plethora of famous Actors as the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th Doctor, played by Rowan Atkinson, Richard E. Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant and Joanna Lumley respectively - it is technically Steven Moffat's first writing credit for Doctor Who and features some dialogue he would later use in the show, such as the Iconic "Never Cruel and Never Cowardly". It is also the last appearance of Roy Skelton as the original Voice of the Daleks.
    How is THAT For Trivia?

Alongside the potential child of the Man born out of war and chaos and the bad wolf girl (before everyone lost thier memories at thier "eaths) when a unfinished timemachine saved everyone to its harddrive (but due to being unfinished did not save everyones "memories 6 personalities" (read souls) and later after that that unfinished timemachine was completed and became the very first original TARDIS it resaved everyones "souls" onto its harddrive in a Matrix it had running where everyone was basicly in "Heaven and Hell".
The first save was = with what we know from the show as "blank base stations" (See The Master race for a similar concept; End of time) )that uses the 2nd saves to "fill" the blank base stations that thus becomes Timelords....
(thats the basic concept thats been hidden in the show) + the very first TARDIS became the Matrix on Gallifrey
Due to time i wont 100% go into exactly how this is seen in the show but just know the basic concept have been repeated for us (Our Mankind from the classic WHoninverse) Whom the Doctor still have a duty of care of as we are from the whoniverse our Doctor was the Doctor for and where his mother came from.
= All of newwho is about how we (our mankind; from the classic whoniverse) got out Earth stolen out from our WHoniverse (Just like the Mondasians had thier Earth stolen (Rose words it in start of Journeys end; hidden but its there)
So in end of Journeys end. Our Earth was "returned" to the wrong whoniverse (read the new Doomsday/Big Bang created new WHoniverse....
= exactly the same story as for the Mondasians.
As our Earth and mankind will loose our Earth to a anther type of "tincans" in around 20XX...& at the very same time an maaaaaaaaaaaasive attack in around 5145AD.
And our (now former) Doctor (In a still to come future without a TARDIS trapped thru history from atleast 4BC))(read Caretaker/Curator/President) is only able to save the Earth in 20XX using an unfinished new timemachine he/she have been tinkering with (since 1948) and that we have been seeing on off since series 3.
and that was completed using River Songs mind in around 5145AD...
= The child of the TARDIS
      IS
a new type of timemachine (in lack of a name) RIVERS that have been saving everyone thruout history (the 2nd save)
      in the massive Dalek invasion
of 5145ADish...The first save was made already in the show as I have hinted above already when the Master created the actual harddrive for the unfinsihed timemachine hidden in plain sight in End of time. To be able to controll our entire mankind as he needed a place to store eveyone "souls" to be able to control us all. Just like how The Great intelligens, Patient Zero and the Zygons needs an "dormant" active mind to control someone...
As mankinds "souls" where retured the harddrive stored the "blank state" of the Master race instead.....
And this is why the Matrix in RIVERS is using copies of the same over and over....
      +
      And this is a biggie...
Remember how Clara faced the raven and how our (former) Doctor was stored on a "harddrive" and lived in that Matrix for those billions of years repeating those 3 days....
Clara was also saved that time by the same hardrive....(The black smoke/datastream)
      andlater in the library....
Clara was uploaded to life once again....
I could spell out as whom but the effect is far more.....amazing...as it is hidden in plain sight so obvious...
its quite early...in the first episode...
just go watch it with the information in mind from above...
Clara is right there hidden in plain sight.
      Remember the Doctor lies.
(and Clara is unknowingly the new Whoniverse Doctor since Akhaten and in the library the 1st (new whoniverse) Doctor have its apperance that will know shes the Doctor one day...when our mankind on Trenzalore becomes and are the new WHoniverse rulers over time..
THere is a ton more but thats a start...

No, a CGI young John Hurt (complete with one line of dialogue) played the Wzr Doctor in Night of the Doctor.
While McCoy was technically the first actor to play two Doctors I'd argue that Richard E Grant was the first to acplay play two different interpretations: Curse of Fatal Death 10th Doctor and Scream of the Shalka 9th Doctor, the second of which only isn't full canon because it would have confused the newbies who came to the show in 2005.

And... if you are going to count Sylvester McCoy between 1989 and 1996, or Paul McGann between 1996 and 2005 (or especially if you are counting 2013)... then Tom is STILL playing the Doctor now, for Big Finish, nearly 50 years after he started. As a latecomer to the franchise, I've always had the impression that people consider Sarah Jane Smith as the longest running companion. I actually tallied up the number of episodes she and Jamie McCrimmon appeared in, and Jamie's in far more than Sarah Jane is so HE is the longest running as far as I can tell. I didn't really look at the nuWho companions, just those two very popular favorites (they're in my top 5 favorites).

I was similarly stunned by Adric's death, and the brilliant decision to run the end credits in respectful silence.

Sara had the chance to travel in the TARDIS but was contained into one story, many one story characters had the chance to be in the TARDIS they're not considered companions, they would be a lot more if that were the case.
